“The Alpha is not in.” The guard wolf whispered lowly. I stared at him knowing that the man was lying. “Please this is a matter of life and death.” The guard wolf looked me up and down before putting his arms across his massive chest.“ Please tell me, what kind of life and death.” “The kind that will wipe out Wolves and humans, is that clear enough?” I growled.
The wolf looked at me with false horror before staring into the distance. He nodded before turning around. I followed the big burly man up the cobblestone path towards the old royal wolves building. We passed the gazebo Esmerelda and I had argued under. It was an almost exact replica of the one in the castle. The moon glittered through the glass ceiling making the inside of it shine. I sighed taking in the scent of fur and dog.
The scent was strong all most to strong when only a few wolves remained from the thousand that had once lived here. The sounds of music and laugher filled my ears as we neared the house. What was going on? Were they planning to retaliate against vampires? We made it to the mansion that once was called the royal l wolf’s pack.
The mansion looked to be clean from appearance. It was as if the old house had some life kicked into it after years of misuse. The guard wolf opened the large wooden door to the house; I could smell the scent of food. It was as if the place were alive the sounds of hearts beating in sync with each other. There was laughter here that wasn't in the castle. My lips curled up into a genuine smile as children ran passed me.
I barely heard the guard wolf as he spoke to me. “This way your highness.” He said. I followed him silently as I took in the view of the pack house. The floor shimmered beautiful silver the walls a soft cream color adorned with many old lanterns that lit the way down a long hallway. I gazed at the pictures that were on the wall. Many of them were the ancient werewolf’s paintings.

I was not surprised to see Edward and Esmerelda on the wall. The picture had grasped their characteristics perfectly especially Esmerelda. Her eyes stared at me through the painting, sending shivers down my spine. “This way your highness.” The wolf's low voice called. I started moving once more. “Please call me Lizzy.” I whispered.
He looked at me quizzically. “Please.” I said again. “I prefer it.” The wolf stood in front the door before knocking. I stared at him quizzically the alpha was in there? I couldn't hear a heartbeat. I started to question him but stopped when I heard a male's voice. “Enter Elizabeth Attlee.” I stood still shocked at the voice I was hearing.
Hesitating I opened the door, coming face to face with Charity Attlee. We stared at each other for what seemed like hours. Esmerelda's son was the perfect image of his father. I was stunned to bits at the likeness. The dark flawless brown skin and deep set brown eyes.
“Why are you here, your highness?” I opened my mouth to speak but nothing came out. “Charity!,” My son's voice rang in my ear. I turned to see him enter the room. He stared at me, though this time with a undesirable hatred. “Mother.” He said coldly. I couldn't help to wince at the tone of his voice, I deserved it. “I came to warn you.” I finally said.
I stared at the ground feeling two inches tall. I balled my hands into fists at my sides. “About what?” Charity asked narrowing his gaze. “Charles, The king,” I started. “He is planning a war; he wants to eliminate all werewolves.” Charity looked at me with curious eyes. “And you want us,” he looked at my son. “To believe you after everything you have done.”
“Please, you have to believe me! I wouldn't have run away if this wasn't serious.” “You ran away from Charles?” Charity asked shocked. “Impossible.” Lance whispered stepping forward. He loomed over me menacingly. “Please. Believe me Lance. I am a traitor coming here and giving you this information.

I just can't watch anymore people die because of me, because of our marriage.” I held up my hand showing him that the ring was gone. I had dethroned myself. “There is nothing I can do to bring your parents back, but believe me there is not a day that goes by that I do not think about them.” My entire body shook as I began to break down.
“I blanked out. I do not remember how I ended up in the house. I only came to when I was holding Esmerelda. ” Tear poured from my eyes as I dropped to my knees. “He said I planned it all, but I do not remember. I knew I was angry though all my plans never fell through. I just went along with him.” I shook my head; my heart was heavy with despair. “I deserved to suffer for not listening to Esmerelda; I deserved to be blamed for everything that has happened to you. I am sorry; please just do not let innocent people die.” My voice cracked at the end.
I was on my knees bowing lowly to him. This was all I could do, all I could do to atone for the sins of my actions. I could feel Charles eating away at the edge of my conscience. He had gotten the ring I could tell from the way he mauled the barrier. “She is telling the truth.” Lance whispered. “She has a tell when she lies.” “I see, stand Elizabeth.” Charity said.
I picked myself up slowly looking through teary eyes. “You will stay here under our protection. It is dangerous for you to be lurking about, especially if you are queen.” “I am no-” “To Charles you are his queen.” “You’re putting yourselves in a dangerous position he already wants to kill-” “Its fine let him come to us.” “I have a question though, why is he so angry.” Lance asked.
“That is the one thing he refuses to tell anyone. Not even his mate.” I cringed as I felt Charles break through my barrier. ‘Elizabeth get your ass here now!’ he growled. ‘Did you not get the message I sent you. I am seriously done with you.’ I answered back rubbing my arm. ‘Oh I got it, but that doesn’t mean you will not come back. You are my mate Elizabeth.’
‘Not if I break the bond.’ ‘I know you Elizabeth you don't have that little spunk anymore. I tamed it out of you long ago.’ I clenched my teeth. ‘I hope you burn in hell Charles, you bastard.’ I growled slamming down another barrier. “Father is not pleased I can see.” Lance growled. “I am sorry.” I whispered. I looked at the ground once more.
“Would you like me to act as a live in helper?” I suggested. Charity looked at quizzically. “I did not take you to be the woman to scrub floors. That mean front is an act that Charles made me put up. Esmerelda was the only one that knew this side of me. I must warn you I do have something of a temper.” “Please understand that you will be watched.” I nodded. “Welcome to the pack Elizabeth Attlee.”
