Lance stroked my hair gently, pressing his lips to my forehead as he laid beside me. His midnight eyes were soft as he gazed into mine. His hand caressed my cheek as he pressed me closer to him. He was doing this in response to the nightmare of last night.
"Talk to me, Angel. Let me hear that magnificent voice" he whispered. I closed my eyes feeling my eye lashes softly stroke under my eyes." I love you" he crooned when i remained in silence. He sighed pulling us up to a sitting position. He hugged me tenderly to him "Cry if thats what you want to do. You don't have to speak to me if you wish." His hands stroked my head. He knew that i wanted to cry, he could feel it through the bond as i could feel his anguish.
I refused to cry infront of him again it would ruin my entire resolve for the day. We both heard the foot steps that threaten to come to our room. We both knew whom it belonged to.I felt myself cringe into Lance's side as she knocked on the door. "Lance its Elizabeth your mother. Your father and I would be pleased if you both joined us in the discusion room" She said in her authoritive like voice. It amazed me how the woman could have gone through a storm, and come out filthy yet still hold an indignant tone to her savior. "Of course" he said his eyes never leaving mine.
His hands encircle my waist pulling me out of the bed. My body was cradled against his as he carried me into the shower. We were both naked so it didn't matter when he turned on the shower. My feet touched the cold tiled floor of the shower as lance grabbed the loufa from the shower rack handing it to me. "Today, please be on your best behavior" he whispered wiping the water that slid down my face away from my eyes.
"I am always on my best behavior. It is her highness that is not taken with me" Lance grabbed the loufa pooring cocunut body wash on it before rubbing my body with it. "Just as she is not taken with you, you are not with her in the slightest. Your eyes tell her so" After he finished washing himself he pulled us closer onto the path of the streaming water. "At least smile once" he whispered into my ear kissing my neck.]

"I'll give you anything your hearts desire if you smile once for me. You know i long to see it. I haven't seen its sweetness in days" He took my hands putting them to his chest. "My hearts desire? you erased it from the face of the earth remember" He growled shoving me into the wall of the shower. He touched the wall on either sides of my head. I could hear the cracking of the tile near my head as he stared murderously at me. His eyes softened before he moved away from me toward his closet.
I stood facing the door that my in-laws were behind. My stomach twisted in knots thinking about coming face to face with the couple. Lance stood behind me his face twisted into a smirk sensing my hesitation. His parents were the most profound people in the entire vampire kingdom. One stare from his father could send even the most powerful general into a dog with its tail between its legs. My hand brushed the golden knob of the door before twisting it open.
Almost immediately my eyes met Elizibeths golden brown ones. Her skin was a light tan, her hair falling to her shoulders in brown curls. Her lips were thin but held a smug smile when she stared at me. I made my feet move hearing every audible click of my heels. Lance's hand slid into mine as we entered. The discussion room was formally made. It was almost close to a study only minus the desk and two chairs. The room had mahogany floor and wooden walls. in the center was a lit fire place decorated with decor from through out history
. The couches were leather their were three in all. Two chairs and one couch that sat in the path of the fire place. His parents sat on the couch both in each others arms. Lance's father face forward staring absently into the fire. He was tall even when sitting down. His hair was the same as Lances only he let it swing to his shoulders not bothering to tie it back. His jawline was strong and masculine his nose was thin and long his lips were full and dark. He held a slight glow to his face, giving the appearance of already being fed.

He wore a dark button down blue collared shirt his pants were khaki slightly raised where we could see his matching Loafers. He glance at his son nodding, his eyes taking in mine. I felt swallowed by the darkness of his blue eyes. "How are you my dear?" he asked his voice ringing with authority. "Well, thank you" I whispered as Lance sat in the Chair closest to the fire place.
I sat beside him on the arm of the chair. "We were discussing Heirs before you both arrived" He said staring back into the fire. "Yes, mother has well informed me of the matter." "Good so when will we be expecting our first grandson" He asked glancing at me. I shivered under his cold eyes.
Lance put a hand on my thigh. "We are in the process of making it happen within the year" He said staring solely at his father. The old king smiled taking his wife's hand tracing imaginary lines in it. Elizibeth smiled glancing at him. "That is good news son, we were worried that you didn't want an heir" Lance glance up at me. I was searing with anger underneath my polite expression. He could feel it under the bond. He smiled at me lovingly. "No we were simply waiting until our relationship was stronger" "Good". An alarm blazed through the castle.
Lance and the old king stood at the sound of it. "Mother! Harmony! take shelter in our room" Lance said. His father looked proud as the guard came into the room. They motioned for us to come out of the room. I followed them as they formed a square to keep us both protected. I opened the door to our bedroom finding the bed readily made by one of the maids. "What is happening" Elizibeth asked catching one of the guards by his shirt. He bowed in respect before answering her. " The wolves from the dungeon have escaped" Elizabeth gasped.
"Oh my" I whispered putting my hand to my lips. The guard bowed again then left i could hear the soft click as the guard locked the door on the other side. Elizibeth turned to me her expression smug. "You have raised suitable guards" "Yes, taking after the original king" I smiled at her coming closer to her. She looked at me strangely. "Elizibeth" I whispered. "Yes" she said as i invaded her personal space. "Your a bitch" I hit her with the mallet i had strapped to my thigh. She fell to the ground knocked out. Blood gushed from her head.
"And you are the worst person that has walked the face of the earth." I smiled for the first time in days. I ran to my closet pulling on skinny jeans and combat boots with a tank and leather jacket. I was only a matter of time before the old king came back to aid his injured mate. I smashed the room into unrecognizable pieces before breaking the windows sliding down effortlessly. The largest wolf from yesterday stood underneath the window expectantly.
I pulled myself onto his large frame holding tightly to his fur as he ran off. The other wolves followed him closely i could smell the blood of vampires on them along with their own. The royal army followed miles behind us as we escaped. I took off the necklace that showed that i was queen throwing it into the forest behind.

Beyond the Bridge
There are many worlds, many multiverses, and you can move between them via the Federation's Bridge network - magical gateways to other worlds. The world dubbed "C'thon" by its inhabitants - or Gamma-Theta-Nu-649, if you ask the Federation's bureaucracy - was deserted when the Federation found it. The "civilized" races had all died out centuries prior, and the wilderness had grown downright feral in their absence. Now, the lonely Federation outpost of Bridgetown is under constant threat from the hungry wildlife, malicious fey, territorial goblins, and wandering undead that surround it. The town's distance from the Federation's centers of power means that it gets precious few of the resources that it needs to stay safe and afloat. Enter the Guild of Adventurers, a plucky and disparate crew who do the Federation's dirty work in exchange for coin. One team, the first of many, crosses the Bridge to C'thon looking for fame, fortune, and (if they're lucky) the answer to a newly-discovered Prophecy. They'll get much more than they bargained for, although first they need to avoid being eaten by the local wildlife. Updates weekly on Wednesday. Chapters will be as long as they need to be for them to work, which means they can vary. If anything drops below 2500 words, I'll post an extra chapter if I have one ready. [PS: This is not a litRPG, but I do borrow heavily from TTRPGs for inspiration, and the general setting and storyline is from a TTRPG campaign I'm running.] [PPS: This is my first attempt at writing long-form fiction. I'm not trying to make a great piece of literature or have a multi-novel overarching plot, but hopefully it'll still be a fun story - let me know what you think in the comments.] [PPPS: Cover image is from a free-download wallpaper by Tyler Edlin; I do not own it, and will take it down immediately if requested.]
