《What The Heck I Gotta Do To Be With You (Lin-Manuel Miranda x Reader)》She Is Broken And Won't Ask For Help

The next few months went by in a complete blur. You were so busy that it felt like barely any time had passed, and before you knew it, you were waiting off-stage for the very first Hamilton performance.
"What's your name, man?"
"Alexander Hamilton."
You smiled at the proud Lin who stood center stage.
"My name is Alexander Hamilton." He looked out into the crowd. "And there's a million things I haven't done. But just you wait, just you wait."
The play went by much faster than you thought. Whether you were on or off stage, you got sucked into the story and time flew by.
Everyone hurried off the stage after the curtain call, talking loudly and hugging and cheering, high on the adrenaline you get after performing.
You all went out to Dairy Queen to celebrate opening night, where the workers shot you multiple annoyed looks as everyone continued to sing at the top of their lungs.
It was awesome.
A few more months full of performances flew by, and then you got the best news.
Hamilton was going to Broadway.
With you as Angelica.
Your very first Broadway rehearsal was in June, nine months after your first Hamilton rehearsal. Where had the time gone?
And yes, Evy and Lin were still going strong. They seemed happy, and you were happy for them.
Well, at least part of you was.
Throughout the months, you and Lin grew closer, but that also meant that the amount of secretive glances and intense moments increased. Everything begging to be said remained unspoken.
But each night, you got to let out for frustration through song, and each night, you were very, very thankful for that.
The Hamilton cast went out to a fancy restaurant after your first Broadway performance about a month later.

Everyone brought friends and dates, and you found yourself alone, not having been with anyone since Leslie and not wanting to bother any of your friends with coming. Pippa quickly noticed and was kind enough to ask you to sit with her and her boyfriend, so you mostly talked to them throughout the night.
Then, near the end, Evy stood, clicking her spoon against her wine glass. "Attention, everyone." You looked over at her, already dreading whatever corny speech she was going to make. "First of all, I just want to congratulate everyone here. You guys have really made an amazing show that couldn't have been done without all of your hard work and early mornings and late nights, so cheers to you guys." Everyone clapped politely. "Second, I just want to say how amazing these past nine months have been, thanks to my boyfriend, Lin." She smiled at him, and he smiled back. "Lin, I have never been happier than I am now. You make me laugh and smile and I can't imagine ever living without you." Lin kept a smile on his face, but you could tell he was uncomfortable and wanted Evy to just sit down. "I've been thinking a lot about this lately, and I've been watching a lot of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, which has helped me make a decision about what I really want."
The Bachelor? The Bachelorette? What did that have anything to do with-
Oh no. You felt the blood drain from your face. Oh no. Please don't let her-
Evy dropped to one knee, pulling out a ring as everyone gasped.
You held your glass so tightly your knuckles turned white. You clenched your jaw and set a stone expression, trying to keep the millions of things you were feeling in the inside.

"I know this is a bit unconventional." Lin let out a light chuckle, looking like he was still trying to process what was happening. "And I know it may seem too soon. But I love you. And I know I'll love you forever and ever." Evy took a breath, composing herself. "So, Lin-Manuel Miranda, will you marry me?"
Your jaw ached as your body continued to tense. A weight was thrown into your back, and you felt angry. You didn't know why. Anger didn't make any sense right now. But you were furious.
"I- I..." Lin gaped, looking down at Evy's hopeful expression. "Yes. I'll marry you."
She immediately brightened, slid the ring onto his finger, then kissed him, the whole restaurant bursting into applause and cheers.
The anger rushed out of you as the newly engaged couple grinned at you and everyone around you. You were numb. The sounds around you became dulled, and you couldn't snap yourself back into the moment, no matter how hard you tried.
Your brain and feet on autopilot, you grabbed your jacket and purse and got up, walking away from the table and the couple receiving a thousand congratulations.
You soon found yourself in your car, gripping the steering wheel so hard that your fingers began to shake and hurt but you liked it because it distracted you from what was going on in your mind and right now that was all you needed.
Your vision became blurry as unconscious tears rolled down your face, hot and angry and sad and never ending.
You started absolutely sobbing, your shoulders shaking as you let out cries.
You hadn't cried in a really, really long time. Although you were hurting and angry and upset, it felt really, really good to be able to purge it all somehow.
After fifteen minutes, the tears slowed and your body became still. You became surrounded by the quiet and still around you, letting it take over your numb brain.
You almost didn't know what to think. They didn't do anything wrong, either of them. They followed their hearts, which somehow led them to getting engaged.
And to you, sitting in your car alone with a wet, blotchy face and an aching chest.
About a week later, you got this is the mail:
You are invited to celebrate Lin and Evelyn's engagement!
You skimmed over the details quickly, your heart pounding loudly in your chest.
You knew you had to go. There was no way of getting out of it.
But who cares anymore, right?
Que sera sera.
And there was nothing you could do.

Manipulation
Kelly really didn't want to go first. It didn't seem fair, Anne had four extra years to come to terms with herself surely she could be the one to test the waters? Well, perhaps she just needs a nudge? Or perhaps an accidental mention in a document no one is meant to read? Something her mum might happen to find? A companion book to Instrumental, can be read as its own story but I think really works best after reading the first book.
