《What The Heck I Gotta Do To Be With You (Lin-Manuel Miranda x Reader)》She Is Good, But She Lies

You woke up around 10:00 the next day, after getting home around 1:00am drunk and tired beyond belief.

You were making yourself some coffee when you heard a beep come from your phone.

After pouring your coffee and adding lots of creamer, you opened the notification to see that Evy had texted you.

Evyyyyy: Video from last night!!!

Then a video popped up.

You opened it, and saw that it was from when you sang.

About halfway through, a drunk Evy panned away from the small stage and over to Lin.

You squinted at the screen, then your eyes widened. You choked on your coffee, sending you into a coughing fit.

After setting down the mug and taking a slow drink of water, you rewinded the video and hit pause.

Lin was staring at you like you were the most beautiful thing in the world. Like you were the most precious thing in the universe. Like you were a siren, and your voice had put him under some sort of spell. Like...

Like he loved you. He was looking at you like he loved you.

Why would he do that?

You stared at his frozen face, a hand dug into your hair.

He was drunk, you reasoned. He was drunk and didn't know what he was doing. We were all drunk. We all made bad decisions. That was just Lin being drunk.

But the more you thought about Lin and last night, the more you remembered.

"Oh my gosh," you said aloud, suddenly standing up straight. "I almost kissed Lin."

You had Hamilton rehearsals the following day, and you walked into the theater nervously. You hadn't spoken to Leslie, Lin, or Evy since the double date, and hoped that everything would be fine.

You were also confused as to why Evy had sent you that video of you singing. She had to have seen the way Lin was looking at you. So why would she let you see that?

You threw your backpack in your dressing room, and as you walked back to the stage, you ran into Lin.

"Oh, hey, Lin!" You said a bit too loudly.

He gave you a goofy smile, and your heart rate increased. "Hey."

You were both quiet, and you couldn't help but study his dark messy ponytail and the way he stuck his hands in his pockets.

"So, um, did Evy sent you any videos or pictures or anything from the double date thing?" You asked, trying to seem casual about it.

"Uh, no. I don't think so. Why?"

"No reason," you said quickly.

Rehearsal went smoothly, and you realized that you really liked having another world to escape to, where Lin wasn't Lin, and you weren't you.

After it was over, you quickly collected your stuff, hoping to leave before Lin could catch you.

Just as you got to the door, you heard, "Y/N."

Knowing that voice, you internally groaned and turned to see Lin.

"Hey."

"Are you busy? I was thinking of getting a drink."

"Oh, yeah, I'm actually busy. I have... stuff to do." You paused, knowing what you a bad liar you were (which was weird, considering you were an actor). "Sorry."

"No, it's cool. Next time?"

You nodded.

"See you." Lin moved his hand to give your arm a quick squeeze, and you jerked your body away. He gave you a confused look.

"Uh, bye," you said quickly, hurrying out.

Once you were home, you flopped down on your couch.

You couldn't keep acting so weird with Lin. You had a good reason- you two almost kissed- but he didn't seem to be effected by it.

Maybe he just didn't remember it.

Still, you needed to pull yourself together. You were going to see Lin six times a week for rehearsals. You had to start acting normal around him.

Then your mind wandered back the moment.

The cheating pounding music. The dark room. The crowd you were stuck in.

The close proximity. Lin's hands on your waist, holding you close. His chocolate eyes close to yours.

Then his breath on your lips.

You knew a part of you wanted it to happen. A big part of you. And you knew that was unfair to Leslie. And to Evy. And to Lin.

Your phone rang, interrupting your thoughts.

You grabbed it, and saw that Lin was calling.

Hesitantly, you picked it up. "Hi."

"Hey, Y/N." A pause. "Just be honest with me. What's going on?"

You let out a sigh. "I'll take that drink now."

You sipped on a margarita.

"So?" Lin looked at you expectantly, taking a drink of his beer.

"So..." You took another drink. "I just- okay, how much you do remember from the bar part of the double date?"

"Uh..." Lin looked off to the side for a moment. "Not much."

You nodded slowly. "Uh, okay, so it has to do with that." You paused, staring down at your drink. "We, um, danced together, and, uh, almost kind of kissed maybe?"

You glanced at Lin, and saw his jaw go slack. He set down his drink and ran his hands down his face.

"So that's why I've been acting weird."

He nodded a lot of times, tapping his beer bottle with his finger.

"But, I mean, we were drunk, right? When you're drunk, you do a lot of dumb things. We just... got confused or something." You talked to fill the silence.

"How much do you remember?" Lin asked suddenly, looking over at you.

"Uh, enough to know what happened?" You answered, confused.

Lin paused. "I think I knew what I was doing."

You felt a pang in your chest. "What?"

He looked into your eyes. "When I was about to kiss you. I think I knew exactly what I was doing."
