The four of you stumbled out into the parking lot, Evy being held up by both Lin and Leslie.

"Okay, okay, drumroll please!" Evy exclaimed. "It's time for... part threeeeeee!" She finished, ignoring the fact that there was no drumroll of any kind. "I hope you are ready because it-it's the most amazing thing you will ever- it- it's the best part of the plan, so far, and it will be soooooo fun!"

You opened the door to the passenger side of Lin's car, and the guys gently set Evy inside. "Evy, maybe you should go home," you said slowly. "You're very drunk."

"Noooooooo!" She whined. "I'll be fine! I promise! Plus, it's just one more stop! It's the last part! Please?!" She looked up at Lin. "Linnie wants to, right, babe?"

"Uh, I don't-" Evy cut him off by pulling him down by the collar of his shirt and kissing him.

You glanced away, and pretended to be fascinated by the bush next to you.

"I know you do," she said, pulling away. "C'mon! Don't be sticks in the mud! It'll be sooooo fun!"

You and Leslie looked at each other.

He shrugged. "If you want to, Y/N. I don't mind."

You let out a sigh, knowing that either way, you'd end up going. "Sure."

On the drive there, all you could think was, I almost kissed Lin. I almost kissed Lin. I almost kissed Lin.

"Hey, are you okay?" Leslie asked, noticing your strange expression.

"Oh, uh, yeah. I'm just worried about what Evy will do once we're there," you joked.

When Leslie accepted your answer and refocused on driving, your mind went right back to where it was:

You almost kissed Lin-Manuel Miranda.

A few minutes later, you arrived at a bar.

You got out, and met up with Lin and Evy, who had just gotten out of their car.

You couldn't believe Evy had brought you all to a bar. "Evy, we are not going into a bar. You're extremely drunk, and I am on the verge of being drunk. This is not a good idea," you said harshly.

"Just go inside and see! It'll be sooooo fun, pinkie promise!" She squealed, and you trudged inside, only to immediately be hit by a guy's horrible singing.

It was a smaller bar, with tables set up surrounding a very small stage with a spotlight and a karaoke machine, which was currently being occupied by a wasted guy singing his heart out.

"It's karaoke niiiiiiiight!" Evy sang happily. "We can all go up and sing badly to a good song!"

Lin and Leslie both seemed excited, and you couldn't help but be a little excited too. You didn't feel like singing, but you were looking forward to recording Lin singing drunkenly to use for blackmail.

"C'moooooon!" Evy dragged Lin towards a table, and you and Leslie followed.

You all sat, and clapped as the guy stepped down from the stage, even though it was awful.

"Okay, Lin, goooo!" Evy squealed. "Lin! Lin! Lin! Lin! Lin!" She started chanting and clapping, and you followed along, laughing.

Lin met your gaze, and you gave him a smirk.

He smiled and rolled his eyes as he stepped up to the stage.

Lin sang "Under The Sea", and even made up some great dance moves to go along with it.

And you got it all on video. It was amazing.

Leslie went up next and did a beautiful rendition of "Your Eyes" from Rent. You loved that musical.

Then, Evy went up.

Oh.

My.

Gosh.

She chose "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" and sang it as drunkenly as humanly possible.

It was so bad.

But hilarious to watch.

You always knew Evy wasn't an incredible singer, but you cringed the entire time while listening to her.

At least she looked like she was having fun.

Again, you got it all on video. You would cherish that one forever.

When she stepped off the stage, she had the hugest grin on her face.

She plopped into her seat. "Lin, I'm going to Broadway!" She declared, then laid her head on the table.

You and Lin made eye contact and burst out laughing, and you enjoyed the brief feeling of carelessness.

"Okay, and that brings us to shy little Y/N!" Evy's head popped up. "Your turn! Go!"

"Oh, no, thanks," you said, sipping a margarita.

"Um, yes thanks." She grabbed your hand and dragged you up the stage, then abandoned you and went back to her seat.

"Whoo, go Y/N!" She cheered.

The sound guy asked what song, and you said the first one off the top of your head.

As the music started, you clutched the microphone nervously. You really didn't want to be doing this.

The spotlight shone bright on you, washing out anyone beyond the first couple rows of tables.

"I stick with real things, usually facts and figures

When information's in its place, I minimize the guessing game," you sang nervously, but were relieved to see no one paying any attention to you.

"I don't like guessing games

Or when I feel things

Before I know the feelings

How am I supposed to operate if I'm just tossed around by fate?

Like on an unexpected date?"

As you got further in the song, you slowly got more confident, and you began to have fun with this comic but relateable song.

"What if when he sees me

What if he doesn't like it?

What if he runs the other way, and I can't hide from it?

What happens then

If when he knows me, he's only disappointed? What if I give myself away, to only get it given back?"

You briefly make eye contact with Lin, but quickly look away.

"I couldn't live with that."

You didn't even have to pretend to be Dawn. This song was you. You were this song. And you got to pour your heart into it.

"Oh, God

What if when he sees me

I like him and he knows it?

What if he opens up a door

And I can't close it?"

You have to fight the strongest urge to look at Lin. This song was about him. No matter how hard you fought it, deep down you knew it was.

"What happens then

If when he holds me

My heart is set in motion

I'm not prepared for that

I'm scared of breaking open

But still I can't help from hoping

To find someone to talk to

Who likes the way I am

Someone who when he sees me

Wants to again," you finished.

It was only when the music stopped that you realized that the bar was silent. You weren't sure when, but everyone had gone quiet, and were staring at you.

Just as you felt yourself blush, the bar burst into applause, and you hurriedly stepped down from the stage and to your seat.

"Y/N! That was a-maz-ing!" Evy exclaimed. "Seriously! You have a gorgeous voice, my friend! And guess what?" She held up her phone. "I got it on video, so we can have it forever and ever and ever!"

You laughed at drunk Evy, forgetting that she was always really amusing to listen to.

"Yeah, yeah." You waved off the compliments.

"Yeah, that was really great, Y/N. You have a great voice." Leslie gave you a smile.

"Thanks," you said, finishing off your margarita.

Against your will, you looked up, and saw Lin looking at you.

When he didn't say anything, you laughed uncomfortably and asked, "What?"

He gave you the sweetest, gentlest smile. "I don't know. It just seemed so real."

A/N: I know Waitress didn't come out yet at this point, but I really really love "When He Sees Me", and thought it was so appropriate for the story. Anyway thanks for reading!!
