《What The Heck I Gotta Do To Be With You (Lin-Manuel Miranda x Reader)》The First Day

You knew from the moment you laid eyes on Lin that he was going to be a big part of your life. At the moment, you didn't know exactly how. You just knew that he was going to mean a whole lot to you.

You tried out for "Hamilton", and, luckily, got just the part you had wanted: Angelica. She got to rap and sing, and to you, seemed to be the most dynamic character. You could tell that you were really going to like playing her.

Plus, you would get to spend all that time with Lin. You were really looking forward to that. He always made you laugh- something you hadn't done much in a while. It felt nice.

On the first day of rehearsal, you walked in right on time, excited and nervous.

The first person you noticed, of course, was Lin. He was standing by the stage wearing a light grey sweatshirt and jeans with his dark hair pulled back.

He smiles when he sees you, wrinkles forming around his eyes that makes his smile seem more genuine.

"Hey, Y/N."

You smile back. "Hey Lin."

He spreads out his arms. "Welcome to 'Hamilton.'"

You laugh. "I think you want to save the greeting for when everyone is actually listening."

"No, that was just a special one for you."

You grin shyly.

"Go introduce yourself to the cast."

"Okay." You look away at the growing crowd of people. "I'll see you later," you say awkwardly, then hop up onto the stage.

You were only able to meet Anthony, Daveed, Phillipa (who told you to just call her Pippa), Oak, and Jazzy before you spot a familiar face.

"Leslie!", you exclaim.

He turns and brightens when he sees you. "Y/N!"

You rush over to him and he wraps you in a big hug.

You separate, then he looks you up and down. "It's been so long! I swear, you've gotten taller," he says.

"I doubt it," you laugh.

"So, when did you move back to New York? I haven't seen you since you left for Washington."

"I moved back a couple months ago. I honestly just really missed New York. I was going to call you, but I got so busy unpacking, and then 'Hamilton'..." You hit him on the arm. "Hey, what part did you get?"

"Aaron Burr."

"Oh, cool."

"You?"

"Angelica."

"Oh, that's a fun part. I think we'll have a song together."

"Really? That's awesome. So, what're you-"

"Welcome, everyone, to the very first rehearsal of 'Hamilton.'"

You look over and see Lin standing on the stage, looking around. When your eyes meet, he smiles at you, then moves his gaze.

"We'll talk later," Leslie mouths, and you nod.

"My name is Lin-Manuel Miranda-"

Everyone claps and cheers.

He chuckles. "Thank you. Anyway, I'm Lin, and I'll be playing Alexander Hamilton, and sort of directing alongside my very good friend, Tommy Kail."

Everyone claps politely when a curly haired guy waves.

After that, everyone goes around and makes introductions, then Lin talks more about what "Hamilton" is about, what inspired it, and what a fun show it's going to be.

Then, everyone listens to the soundtrack.

You knew there were going to be a lot of songs, but oh. My. Gosh. The whole play was songs. There were forty-six songs. Only one scene had talking in it, and even then Anthony was going to be singing in the background.

By the end of the first day, you were completely overwhelmed. How the heck were you going to pull this off?

As you pack up your backpack with your new script and CD, Lin comes over to you.

"So, what do you think?"

"First impressions?"

"First impressions."

"Well, um..." You mess with the string on your jacket.

"C'mon, Y/N. Is it actually that bad?"

"No!", you say quickly, looking back up to meet Lin's eyes. "The play is amazing. Incredible. I don't know how you wrote all of that. I could never write one good song, much less forty-six."

"Well, then what's wrong?"

"No, uh, I just think it's going to be a lot of work."

Lin snorts and sticks his hands in his pockets, making him look extremely cute. He somehow looks up at you, even though you were about the same height. "Of course it's going to be a lot of work. I already knew that. I just wanted to know if you thought 'Hamilton' was going to be a success. If it was going to work out."

You smile at him. "Of course it's going to work out, Lin. And I can't really explain it, but I can tell that this play is going to be huge."

He grins. "Thanks, Y/N."

"Of course."

You wave, then sling your backpack over your shoulder and walk out of the theater.

"Y/N!"

You turn and see Leslie rushing up to you. "Want to get something to eat and catch up?"

"Yeah. That sounds nice."

"Good. Did you drive here?"

"No. I took a cab."

"Me too. Let's walk, then."

The crosswalk sign changes from red to white, and Leslie grabs your hand, then you walk across.

You suddenly get this weird feeling on the back of your neck, then turn around.

You see Lin standing in front of the theater, looking at you. He quickly waves, then walks off to the parking lot.

Had he seen you and Leslie holding hands? Is that why he had been standing there? No, right? You had only known him for a week. You'd only met him a couple other times before now. That couldn't be it.

Right?

"Soooooo, how was your first day of rehearsal? Tell me all about it!"

"Um, it was really good, Evy. I saw Leslie."

"Leslie?! Wow! I miss that guy! Let him know I said hi, okay?"

"Okay."

After your dinner with Leslie, you went home to relax. You had only been watching TV for ten minutes when your best friend, Evelyn, a.k.a. Evy, called you.

"You'll have to tell me more about it later."

"Okay-"

"Oh! I totally forgot! I have something exciting to tell you!"

"What?"

"I have a new boyfriend!"

As happy as you were for Evy, this didn't surprise you. She has had a lot of boyfriends- plus, she was pretty. She had wavy brown hair with ends that were dyed blonde and hazel eyes. She was also Latina, and that somehow made her seem even prettier.

"That great! When did you guys get together?"

"Just a few days ago."

"Well, I can't wait to meet him."

"And I can't wait for him to meet you! I think you guys are really going to hit it off. He's a lot like you, actually."

"He sounds amazing."

Evy laughs, then suddenly gasps.

"What's-"

"He'scallinghe'scallinghe'callinghe'scalling! I'll talk to you later!"

"Okay?"

You look at your phone, and see that she already hung up.

You sigh. Evy always does the same things with every one of her boyfriends. She gives them all of her time, all of her attention, then neglects all of her friends. But she still expects you to comfort her after a breakup- which are always extremely painful because of how much of her energy goes into her relationships. You just hope that this one will be different.

You suddenly realize that Evy never even told you his name.

You walk over to your backpack and pull out your script and CD. You might as well do something productive.

But when you're flipping through your script, a piece of paper falls out. Confused, you pick it up.

On it, scribbled in pretty messy handwriting was Lin's phone number.

A giddy feelings fills you. Lin gave you his phone number! He probably gave his phone number to everyone in the cast, you realize, and you happiness goes back down.

Oh well. At least now you wouldn't have to awkwardly ask him for it.

You could tell this was going to be an interesting year.

A/N: Welcome welcome welcome to my new Lin story! I can't promise it will be as good as the last one, but it's still a story of you and Lin falling in love, so hopefully that will make up for it. Thanks for reading!!
