~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was the day you had dreamed of ever since you courted Fili. There were many people, friends, and family all journeying to watch you wedding ceremony. You were as nervous as any bride on her wedding day, but for a different reason.
Ever since that day when you had let your wings spring free, you had been more open with them being on your back. You were given many compliments by the people of Erebor– and yes! Erebor had been rebuilt and established. It was up and running better than ever. But, then you had the people who thought your wings were a bad thing. You would get snide comments of them. To some you were a freak. You worried about your wedding and what others might think of you. There were going to be so many people there! The whole city would come to watch you, not only be wed, but become the princess!
You let out a long sigh. You had your wings hidden all day,"what's the matter love?" Fili asked coming up behind you. You stared out the window overlooking Dale and Laketown.
"Just nervous about what people will do or say when they see I have wings," you leaned your head back on his shoulder.
"You've been walking around in public with them out before, y/n. You will be fine and I'll be right there with you. Always," he kissed your cheek. Fili could make you feel better any day.
"I suppose," you let out another sigh.
"Miss y/n?" You turned to see who was at the door.
"Yes?" You walked out of Fili's arms.
"It's time for your dressing," said the dwarf tailor. You looked back to Fili, with horrified eyes. Fili gave you a reassuring look and pleasant smile. You didn't feel too bad after seeing that. You followed the tailor out of the room.
You had put on the white gown. The woman told you it was traditional for the princess, but they had to make a few adjustment because of your wings. The dress was big and puffy near the bottom. The top hugged your curves just right. It was sparkly and yet represented dwarven culture very well. The dress had a long sparkly train. The back had slits in them for your wings.
(dress reference I do not own the image)
The lady asked you to slowly let your wings out, and you did. She marveled at them for a moment. The holes made for your wings were just the right size. You were thankful that you went to get everything measured. You were surprised when she started to adorn your wings with white jewels. She stuck small white diamonds in between your feathers.
"Is that really necessary?" You asked softly.
"Of course dear! Your wings look absolutely stunning and beautiful on their own, but a bit of jewelry never hurts," she said happily. When she was finished she gave you a small amount of make up and handed you a bouquet of white flowers. You were almost getting sick of the color white. The woman put a few more white gems in your hair and stood back to admire. You flared your wings out high above you, they sparkled and took your breath away.
"How do I look?" You asked skeptically to the dwarf lady.
"Words fall utterly short of your beauty miss y/n," she gave a little bow and you saw tears in her eyes.
"Why are you crying?" You folded your wings back.
"This is the first celebration we've all had. This is something we need upon returning to our home, plus you look so beautiful it's extremely hard to not cry," she said and gave you a little bow. You bowed slightly in return.
She left the room and now you waited to be called out. As you waited for what seemed like the longest time; you could even hear the crowd outside getting louder as more people joined.
"Just breath," you tired to smooth yourself. You inhaled and exhaled slowly.
"Y/n?" Asked a familiar voice from the door. You looked to find your father walking in, he had his wings out as well.
"Father!" You couldn't exactly run in this dress so you walked quickly into his embrace. You have him a tight hug.
"Y/n my dear, it has been an age since I've seen you. You may tell me about your adventures sometime," he rubbed your back. You pulled away.
"Ugh...I'm not supposed to cry yet!" You said while trying to wipe some tears without smearing your make-up.
"Apologize my child. You look absolutely beautiful, like your mother did when I married her– are you ready to do this?" He asked linking his arm with yours.
"W-what? N-now?" You stuttered. Your father laughed.
"Yes child! They promised rum afterwards that's a better reason than none to get it over with," you father always picked out the positives if you doubted yourself. You laughed, you supposed he had a point.
You father walked you to a point behind wall and your heard the crowd louder than ever, you looked to your father with scared eyes. He kissed your cheek.
"There is nothing to worry about y/n. I will be in he front row, if you need anything look to me, I will be there," he said in assurance. You have a small nod. With a few steps you turned the corner and all eyes looked to you. The voices of the crowd hushed and only the wind whispered.
You swallowed hard. The place was filled with people on two sides. There was an area in the middle for you to walk. You felt your arms shake and but and your knees wobbled. You father held to you tighter. He began walking down an aisle. You noticed how the aisle was covered in white petals you followed the long path to your awaiting, husband and Prince.
He looked absolutely handsome in his white tunic. He wore a silvery robe to match. The love in his eyes had you crying. With confidence you walked a little straighter and a little more with purpose. You only saw him amongst the large crowd.
Everyone else seemed to fade as you finally approached him. You father kissed you on the cheek again and turned to sit in his seat. You walked up stone steps to your awaiting husband. He had tears in his eyes already. He took your soft hands in his warm ones and smiled brightly at you.
"You are absolutely breathtaking, my love," he said and you already felt a happy tear slide down your cheek. He brought his thumb up and wiped it away. You heard a cough from your left and you looked to see the man who would give you the words to your wedding.
The ceremony continued of repeating back words and looking in Fili's eyes. You cried at some parts and he cried at some parts, finally it came to the I do.
"Fili, Son of Dis, do you take y/n to be your wife from on out hence forth?" The elderly man asked.
"I do," Fili said through tears and you smiled.
"Y/n daughter of Nesius, do you take Fili Son of Dis to be your husband from here on out hence forth?" He asked.
"I do," you cried.
"I know pronounce you husband and wife! May the audience remain seated as we will have the coronation of the princess momentarily," said the elderly to the crowd," you may kiss the bride."
"It's about time," You heard Fili say quickly before closing the distance and kissing you passionately. You kissed him back just as equally with the love you had for him. You pulled back and saw white petals falling from high above. You laughed with your husband as the petals fell onto you. The crowd cheer and applauded for you both.
This day could not be better and you still had a coronation to do, but it would be a breeze with Fili by your side.
Small Chests Are Fine Too
It is an undeniable fact that good things come in small packages. More often than not, it is necessary to trim the fat in order to bring what really matters to the forefront. Having extra bulk may seem like a good idea, but in reality it is merely a crutch that will one day become a hindrance, as it is no substitute for personality nor ability. Indeed, often times it is the small things in life that brighten up our daily lives and constantly remind us exactly why we do the things we do. However, it is important to keep an open mind, for while bigger is not always better, there are also times when it is. This holds especially true when it comes to hopes and dreams, which have been known to require a suitably large container from time to time. And while dreaming big could potentially lead to massive dissapointment, one will never truly reach fulfilment if they think too small. A truth that one small woman with meager aspirations is about to find out. DISCLAIMER: This is a spin-off/side story of my main series, Everybody Loves Large Chests, which is also mandatory reading to understand this one. It runs parallel to the main plot, branching off from the chapter titled Upheaval 2, so there will be spoilers for anyone who hasn't reached that point.
Reincarnated as a Warlock with zero skill
My previous life was just as boring as yours. I was a marketing manager for a flooring company. The biggest challenge? Would the latest colour be called "Grey Oak" or "Oak Grey". Then, tragedy. I was struck down in the prime of my life by a negligent delivery driver and a pallet of laminate flooring - which is significantly heavier than you think. So there I was, smeared on the floor, absorbed in my own self pity. Where would I go? Heaven? Hell. Did I care? Apparently that was not what fate had in store for me. Reborn in a world of dragons and fantasy, I became a Warlock. A pretty darn important one too. The problem, I had little to no affinity to magic and I spent most of my time doing my best to avoid danger. Danger however, would not avoid me. So, with my new life as an amazing Warlock you'd think it would be easy street right? Wrong. Forces gather to move against the Kingdom I am sworn to protect and, whilst my inward allegiance is to whomever is the victor, outwardly I must lead the resistance against the invaders. With my skilled companions Asha - a mage that can actually do magic and Torg - a swordsman sworn to protect me, I can only hope that they distract the enemy long enough for me to run away.
