Thorin Reader
Imagine being a fallen angel, who is scared when she stumbles upon the group. They're mesmerized by her beauty, and offer their help, even Thorin is a sucker for this angel.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You had stumbled upon this group. It was a group of men, small men, and a tal elder one. Needless to say, you were scared beyond belief. You wanted to run from them, but you needed help.
You were an angel who had once lived a life of light and harmony in the clouds. As an angel, you were occupation was being a guardian. All guardian angels were assigned one person. You were to look over them, guide, them and help them at times if need be. That part of the job can get pretty tricky. You could, if you so desired, wander down to speak to them. You could give them advise, and they wouldn't know who you were at all. They would have more questions about you than you wanted to give them answers for. You had been assigned to a certain, Thorin Oakenshield, Son of Thrain.
You didn't exactly know what happened, but you were walking around, as usual upon a cloud, and then, all at once, the cloud beneath you gave out, and you fell. You tried to fly, but nothing happened. You couldn't make since of what was up and what was down, you couldn't level out your wings. You blacked out when you hit the ground. Nonetheless, you lived.
Your foot and arm were in extreme pain. And bleeding...was that what is was? You,as an angel couldn't bleed, and now you were... you took your shaking fingers and touch the oozing red substance on your shoulder.. You examined it closer, moving it around in your fingers. You felt heavy in your throat. Your eyes began to water. Were you crying? Angels weren't supposed to cry either. You let out a sob and wiped the water under eyes. You needed to find someone, you just needed answers.
You froze when you heard the distance footsteps in the clearing to your left. You yourself sat in the treeline, agents a tree. It was a group of men, small men, and a tall elder one. Needless to say, you were scared beyond belief. You wanted to run from them. With a wobbly step you stood, and hid your wings, so it looked like you were just a normal person. You stopped your tears, and with a deep inhale you put one foot in front of the other.
You came out of the tree line.
"Can you help me?" You asked silently. It was obvious you were scared. They turned their faces to you and you went to take another step, but lost your balance, and started to fall. A big warm hand rested on your should from where you sat, now on your bum. You looked to see who it belonged to. All this time seeing this face from a far, and now up close left you speechless. It was Thorin. What were the odds of this happening? You locked eyes for a moment, then looked to the rest of the group who was now running towards you. They had noticed your shoulder and foot,but them rushing up on you terrified you.
In a fight or flight moment you let your bright, white wings spring free of their hidden bonds. You shielded your self with them, and wrapped them around you. The hand that was on your shoulder, now gone. You again, held back tears. When you heard the rushing feet stop you slowly opened your wings to reveal your frightened face.
"Bless me, I don't believe it," Said a small man with a bushy red beard.
"How is it possible?" spoke up a smaller man who had big hairy, bare feet. It almost wanted to make you laugh. The one you knew as Thorin, stepped in front of you, so it was blocking the rest of the company from you. You were grateful for that. You gave him a shy smile. He still looked at you in awe.
"Beg your pardon, my lady, but what is your name," he asked sincerely.
"Y/N," you responded quietly.
"Y/N..." he repeated your name and liked the way it came out, "What are you doing here as well if I may ask?"
"I was hopping you could tell me the same thing, Thorin, I-" He cut you off when he and the group gasped.
"How is it you know my name?" He asked. You took a minute looking into his eyes. You decided to tell the truth. Even if it had consequences later on.
"Thorin, Son of Thrain, Son of Thror, I have been assigned unto you. I have watched over you, guided you, helped you," You said your voice sounded like pour gold to him.
"What are you saying?" he asked more curiously.
"My kind are assigned a person, to watch over them, and like I said guide them. I am your guardian angel. Any more information I will with hold unless it is necessary that I speak it. I fear I will pay deeply for this, "You said looking down. You didn't fail to miss the look of sadness that crossed over Thorin's face. You folded your wings behind your back, to try and stand.
You didn't stand up far when pain shot through your foot, and you were going down again. This time a pair of big arm caught you.
"You are hurt," said Thorin as he held you up-looking at your injuries. In response you just nodded. You saw Thorin look to one of his group members and nod, then they began walking over to you.
"Y/N, this is Oin. He is our medical person amongst this trip," he said gently to you. You nodded and gave a smile to the man.
"Sit her down Thorin. No use in her standing," He ordered and Thorin obliged. You let out a small hiss of pain as you sat back down. Oin pulled out some things from his bag they you assumed would help you to heal. Oin gently applied the ointments and wrapped your foot and shoulder with a bandage. You slowly felt your wounds feel better.
"What trip are you on," you asked innocently.
"We are journeying to take back our home, In Erebor," answered Thorin.
"Erebor?" You said aloud. Why did that name ring a bell? "Y-your dwarves"
"Aye! That we are lass," said a dwarf with a funny looking hat.
"Well at least most of them," said the one with the hairy feet, "I am a Hobbit, my name is Bilbo. Bilbo Baggins. This chap," he gestured to the tall elder man cloaked in grey and with a pointy hat. " This is Gandalf the Grey a wizard," finished Bilbo.
You bowed your head to them, "Hello Bilbo and Gandalf the Grey,"
"at your service my lady," greeted Gandalf.
"We'll have plenty of time to get to know each other later, we must get moving towards the mountain," said Thorin you looked at him in confusion. Was he just going to leave you like that?
"What about Y/N?," said a dwarf in the back with a baby face., "we can't just leave her here!"
"Indeed and we won't. I won't," he said now looking at you, "Unless she does not want us to take her with us...?"
"I will join you," You answered. You didn't know what you would be doing if you hadn't found them. So why not go on a little adventure?
"It's settled then, Y/N you will ride with me," he ordered. He lifted you up in his arms, and with a bit of help he got you sat in front of him on his horse.
Future:
You and Thorin grew closer over time, and got along with the company( you knew all their names by heart now) With the Mountain finally reclaimed, Thorin made you his queen. You still watched over him and guided him as he ruled. You would always be his angel.
Glitched! Uplift Arc
[Winner of the April 22 Royal Road Writathon Challenge] In 2202 the System reached Earth. Thankfully it had learnt from previous uplifts and implemented an introductory arc to acclimatise the new participants rather than chucking them in the deep end. The previous practice of just dumping unsuspecting beings into a System designed for the growth of the multiverse had led to catastrophic and sub-optimal results. The return on investment was abysmal. That old trope was so over-cooked - after nearly extinguishing itself through negative returns new policy was required. That was 356 trillion local years back. Now over 5600 successful uplifts had joined the ranks of the multiverse. But the System was always learning, always growing. Still there were glitches. Mostly minor. Mere irritants really. Sometimes even they were catalysts, triggering a fresh expansion. Soon the System would understand why. Our Earth was 7912th. - Ascend - Battle - Challenge - Dominate - Expand - Gro... - Glor... - Where’s the eff word? - Glitch... File corrupted. ---END SYN---
