: "Song of Durin" by Eurielle
: You can't sleep so you wander the halls of Erebor, singing a song that you had heard form your mother. You run into someone extremely unexpected. The king. He is more than happy to chat with you for a moment. It sparks feelings deep inside both you and the king.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You tossed, and turned. Turned and tossed. The was no angle of sleeping position that could help you. You through the blankets off of you and moaned loudly. You were beyond pissed in this state of mind.
"You know what? Fine. That's just fine. " you moaned to no one in the room. You sat up, dangled your legs over the bed. You ran your hand through you lush H/C hair. You looked out your window and sighed. 'Maybe a walk will help," you said in your mind.
You pushed off of your bed and slipped on your long silk night gown. You made your way over to your chamber doors, and slowly opened them so they would not creak.
You didn't slip on any shoes as you went outside the doors. Going barefoot seemed to comfort you. The hallway was long and dark, as usual at night. Where the moonlight came in through the windows, it made perfect rectangle patterns on the marble floor, here and there. You stuck to the wall-in the shadows.
You made a couple of turns and made it up stairs. It was darker up here, because there were significantly less windows. You placed a hand on the wall. The marble floor was cold against your bare feet, but you didn't mind it. You silk gown trailed effortlessly behind you.
You still did not feel sleep coming own to you sang. It was a song that your mother had sang to you, to put you to sleep when you were little.
" A king he was on carven throne" you started quietly.
" In many-pillared halls of stone," you said a little louder. You were a good singer, but you never had let anyone hear you.
" With golden roof and silver floor,
And runes of power upon the door, "You continued to sing and walk slowly. You got a little louder each time. You made it however, not too loud to wake up sleeping dwarves.
" The light of sun and star and moon
In shining lamps of crystal hewn.
"Undimmed by cloud or shade of night
There shone for ever fair and bright.
" The wor-" You stopped as you ran into something
"Ooph!" you said aloud.
"Forgive me, my lady," said a deep gruff and seemingly attractive voice. You hadn't run into a thing you had run into a person. A dwarf, most likely. You leaned in to see his face better in the dark light. You squinted your eyes. This dwarf had a bushy, black beard, long black hair. The hair was braided at the side, and it was held with silver beads. The beads had runes of royalty on them. You glanced up at his face, one last time, this time in extreme shock.
"I am so sorry my King! I will return to my chambers at once!" You excused yourself with a quick bow, and turned on your heels to leave.
"Wait!" he called to you before you could get just a few steps in. At his order you froze in place. You turned slowly to face him.
"Come back here for a moment. I seek your company," he stated. Who were you to deny the king? So, you walked back to him, your hand on the wall in the dark.
"Yes my lord?" you asked once you stood in front of him. You were afraid you were going to be punished in this moment. You stood right up in his face, so you both could see each others expression in the low light.
"I mean no disrespect, and I mean not to yell at you for being outside your chambers. But, why are you outside of them? Everyone has orders to be in at a certain time," he was curious.
"I was restless, my King. I thought it best if I took a walk around. I apologize for my singing, it...soothes me, and puts me to sleep sometimes," you answered him.
He nodded at your excuse, " No need to apologize for singing my lady. You are quite exceptional at it,". Great now the King was complementing you on something you were insecure about.
You blushed, "uhh, thank you King Thorin. I don't sing much as I would like," you stared into each others eyes for a moment. The silence was quite immense.
"What is your name if I might ask?"
"Y/N," you responded.
"Y/N," he repeated. He awkwardly whispered, "that is a...beautiful name". Now you really blushed, and you heard him chuckled lightly as he noticed your bright red cheeks.
To lower the tension you asked," I don't mean to intrude, my King, but what are youdoing out this late?"
"I suppose I was restless. When I heard someone singing I had to see who that voice belonged to," he smiled. The smile loosened his tight features, and made him look all the more handsome. Handsome? This was what your mind was thinking? You brushed the thought away as quickly as it had came.
You felt your eyes trying to close, but you willed them not to. You gave him a sleepy smile. And you could feel it a yawn was coming on. You tried so hard not to yawn, but it seemed the more you thought about it, the more the urge grew. You felt like yawning near the king's face wasn't the proper thing to do. Nevertheless you did it any way. You turned your face down at an angle as your yawned. You covered your mouth, to be some what proper about it.
"It seems as though, your singing has work," he noted your sleepy state.
As your yawn finished, you laughed. You were unsure of what to say or do next.
"Perhaps I can help you back to your chambers. Wouldn't want you to pass out in the middle of a stair case or something lady Y/N,"
"I'd be honored my King," you wrapped your arm around his out stretched one. It was a good thing too because you stumbled as you neared sleep where you stood on the way back to your room.
You stopped at your door, and he released your arm. You were a little upset at the loss of his warmth. Thorin stood in front of you now. You smiled at your miserable sleepiness. He gently reached up and tucked a strand of your hair behind your ear. You were surprised by it. It left you kind of speechless. The king was doing something a little intimate, and with you! Of all dwarves! Needless to say you blushed again.
"I would like to hear your song finished sometime, maybe this time we don't have to bump into each other. Would you...want to company me....tomorrow for the evening?" The king was asking you to spend time with him now!? This entire situation was strange. You didn't mind it though. You could spend another day with Thorin Oakenshield. In fact you were starting to look forward to it.
"I would love to Thorin honestly. I'll finish the song for you, and you alone. I apologize,but you have to understand that I am not as open with my voice as I probably should be,"
"Understood Y/N," he bowed his head to you. You gave him another sleep dazed smile. You opened your door and looked back to find him still there, he slowly looked to you.
" I thank, for not getting on to me too bad for being out of late,"
"You are most welcome. I did not find it fitting to yell at someone so beautiful," he said certainly. You blushed AGAIN. You averted your eyes for a moment, then looked up at him. He was still watching you.
"Listen...I...uh..I wanted to...." you tried, and a smile grew on his face. You found that smile irresistible, you also wanted a way to truly show him your thanks. Whether it was the sleep in your brain, or the crazy idea you had you leaned up and placed a kiss on his warm, soft cheeks. He stilled instantly.
You pulled back to look at him. As he smiled you did too. You knew then that it was a good move.
"Good night my King," you whispered through your grin. You began to close your door. Before it was completely closed, you heard him whisper a "good night" back.
You giggled all the way back to your bed, were you slept soundly.
