Chapter Thirty-Six
My One
Chris and I woke the next morning in each other's arms under the blankets of our fort just like I had expected. Ten or so minutes after I fell asleep, I woke up and Chris was still awake. I suggested that we build a fort; so, we did. It didn't take us as long as it used to when we were kids so we were done in a half an hour. Chris and I lied down on the pillow - covered floor and fell asleep together.
The fort still remained intact to which I was surprised, and as soon as we woke, Chris got up to go make us some tea as I flicked the TV on and put Captain America into the disc drive. We decided to watch all of the movies up to and including The Avengers today.
He returned and carefully made his way into the fort carrying two mugs of steaming tea. I took my mug and leaned up against the bottom of the couch, facing the TV. Chris held his mug with one hand and placed his other on the floor in between my knees, holding him up. He leaned in and gave me a quick kiss before sitting beside me.
I threw my left leg overtop of his right one just because that's something I used to do with my mum and dad and I'm used to it I guess.
He smiled and rested his hand on my leg, rubbing circles and drawing patterns on it while the movie started.
Iron Man was my favourite superhero. Lena, Kara and I had all "become" different superheroes. I was Iron Man, Lena was Batman, and Kara was Superman. We dressed up as our superheroes every Halloween even when we were too old to trick or treat.
I missed them terribly and I hated to say that we were growing apart from each other. They were so far away, we were one body, but now three individual parts. I know I hadn't lost them. I know that. But we weren't exactly "sisters" anymore either.
Chris and I watched yet another day away only occasionally getting up to get snacks or use the bathroom. But, we did it. We watched all of the movies leading up to and including The Avengers. Another item crossed off my bucket list.
"You know, you've helped me cross off three items on my bucket list already Chris" I said as the credits for The Avengers began rolling.
"I have?"
"Yeah. Eat a picnic in front of the Eiffel Tower, get engaged on top of the Eiffel Tower, and watch all of these movies in corresponding order"
"Hm. I guess I have then haven't I?" he smirked "was one of them kissing an extremely attractive retired U.S militant?"
"No but it can be" I winked.
"Then let's cross that one off shall we?" he chuckled leaning towards me and turning so he was hovering over me.

I closed my eyes and felt his soft lips connect with mine. Our lips moved in sync in a motion that left me wanting to feel his touch again.
I rested my head in the crook of his neck as he returned to his original position beside me. He lifted my left hand and held it in front of him. He played with the ring he had placed on it admiring the fact that I was wearing it. He placed the palm of his hand under mine and closed my fingers around the side of his hand so that he could hold my hand and comfortably study the ring at the same time.
"It's beautiful isn't it?" I smiled kissing his collar bone.
"I did good on this one didn't I?" he smiled.
"You did" I said looking intently up at him.
He kissed my forehead before we were interrupted by the ringing of my cell phone.
"Hello?" I answered.
"Hey sis"
Addison's voice.
"Hey Addie. What's up"
"I have really really big news. I need you guys to come over here like, now" she squealed.
"Okay okay give us a few minutes okay? We'll be there shortly" I told her laughing a little at her excitement.
"Okay see you soon. Bye" she hung up.
I set the phone down and sat back down with Chris.
"What did she want?" he asked.
"She has news and she wants us to go down to the hospital"
"Okay. Just, a few more minutes" he said pulling me in for a hug and kissing me lovingly.
I laughed into his kiss as he fell backwards causing me to be on top of him. I rolled off and laid on my side looking at him. He had a v-neck t-shirt on which perfectly exhibited his muscular arms and toned chest. I rested my head on his right bicep and my hand on his chest drawing a variety of different designs on it. He enclosed my small hand in his large one and kissed it before holding it close to him. Above his heart.
"We should probably get going before your sister explodes" I giggled.
"She's your sister now too you know. You have to deal with her as well" he smiled helping me up and being careful not to wreck the fort we wanted to preserve.
"I guess she is. But at least we get to come home and be away from her. Ryan has to stay with her all the time" I said jokingly. There was no way anyone could get enough of Addison Garrett. She was perfect.
We drove to the hospital in a comfortable silence with Chris holding my hand on top of my leg. He stroked my thumb with his, something that has always soothed me.
When we arrived, we made our way up to the fifth floor, just like we had a thousand times before. I turned the knob of the door and Chris held it open for me. I walked in to a beaming Addison and Ryan sitting on the edge of the hospital bed.

"What's the news?" I asked giving Addison a hug.
"Well" she started "since Ryan was injured, health insurance wouldn't cover it. So, we didn't know how we were going to pay for it all. We received news today that we had been given an anonymous donation that covers the medical bills and extra"
"Oh my god that's awesome!! You guys!!" I squealed. I know it doesn't sound like a big deal, but trust me, Ryan's medical bill, was expensive.
"I know! So, with the extra money, we've decided to book a vacation for the four of us. If you guys are up for it" she said.
"Of course Addie! Where were you thinking of going?" I asked.
"Well, we were thinking that sine we've already been to Paris, we could go somewhere more relaxing rather than historic. We wanted to go to the Cayman Islands and rent a big house or something. Just put up our feet and take a week or two to ourselves. It can be sort of a 'pre-honeymoon' for you guys before you get caught up in the planning of the wedding" Ryan suggested.
I turned to Chris who seemed really excited about it.
"That sounds awesome you guys. When were you thinking?" Chris piped up.
"We wanted to go maybe July 17th? A month from now?"
"Sounds good! Let's book it!" Chris said happily.
"Alright! Well, that's all we wanted. You guys can go back to your makeout session if you would like" Ryan smirked giving me a wink.
"That's not what we-" I started.
"Thanks Ry. You're a real life saver" Chris interrupted dragging me out of the room.
I sighed and waved goodbye to Addison and Ryan and we headed back to the house.
"Chris"
"Mhm"
"After the wedding, do you want us to buy a new house? Or should we stay here? I mean, it's in a beautiful spot, right on the beach, and the mortgage is paid off and everything, but I don't know, I kinda want to start fresh after we get married. There's too many memories of mum and dad in that house and now they're both gone"
"Well, it almost seems like you've made up your mind already" he winked "but I would like to start a whole new chapter in my life, new house, new smells, new wife.....new family members" he winked.
"Whoa there buckaroo. Don't get ahead of yourself there. I'm only twenty Chris"
"I know. But I love you and I think our kids would be pretty freakin adorable" he laughed.
"Yeah I don't doubt that but I'm not ready for that yet. Hell, I don't even know if I'm ready to get married yet, let alone start a family" I chuckled.
"I think you can do it" he said looking at me and taking his eyes off the road for a second.
"Eyes on the road" I demanded pointing out the windshield.
"Alright alright" he laughed.
"You know I love you, and there's no one else I'd rather have a family with, but I can't have a baby if I'm still a baby" I said.
"Well you're my baby. But you're not a baby"
"Whatever honey"
"You'd be a great mom"
"I'm not so sure" I sighed looking at him.
He pulled the car over so he could look at me.
"Hey, look at me" I looked at my feet "Nicole, don't make me say it again" I finally looked up at his gorgeous blue-gray eyes. "I love you, and I know that no matter how much you may think you would mess it up, I know that you will be the perfect mother to our children. And I have complete faith in you and I know that you will love them as much as I love you" he said cupping my face and kissing my forehead.
"I love you" I said, slight tears brimming my eyes "but I'm scared. This is happening so fast and I don't want it to fall to pieces like every other part of my life"
"Hey..." he said pulling me into his arms "I know life hasn't been great this past year but you can get through it, I know you can. You can take on anything thrown your way with ease. It's only going to get better from here and I will make sure of it. We are going to live happily ever after with Addison, Ryan and maybe, a few years from now, children of our own alright? I promise you that I am going to give you the best life you could ever imagine because you deserve every bit of it"
I kissed him with all the love I could give him because he deserved that. Maybe I couldn't give him everything. But I could give him all of my love.
"Now, let's go back home okay? I think Walt Disney is calling our name" he smirked.
"Okay" I smiled. He kissed me once more before beginning to drive again.
Everyone is said to have their one person in this world. The one they share their everything with. The one they love with all of their heart. The one that is their entire world and universe surrounding it.
Christopher Garrett was my one. And I was marrying him in fourteen months and four days. August Twenty-First.

Everyone is a Superhero! Apart from me
Welcome to Loktharma, where everybody is a superhero from birth. That makes Eugene De Lavet the most special of them all. At eighteen years old, he still has no clue what his superpower is. Loktharma has never been a fair world. There are Worldbreakers who were born to brandish the power of the universe, warp time-space, destroy lands and continents. There are Craftmasters who control the elements and terrorize countries with their might and wits. There are Commoners who are only gifted with power for the finer arts, architecture, military arts, or small-scale elemental manipulation. Even in an unjust world like Loktharma, there is always one constant: everyone is assigned a Flair since birth; the power to do something extraordinary. And then there's Eugene. He's been running around in a secluded forest since birth, training and sparring his ass off. While he can wield a blade better than most at his age, he certainly can't throw a giant boulder using the power of his mind, or turn his skin into diamonds. He has no Flair, no purpose for leveling up his stats, and no idea why General Rizeni Baggardo keeps him confined inside a forest for eighteen years. At least until Lord Pyro—the Craftmaster of Tailiah—unleashes his fury on the forest, searching for a treasure Eugene doesn't even know exists. On a frantic escape for his life, Eugene starts to realize he was a part of something he's been completely oblivious to until now. Along with his companions, Melodi and Azra, he travels the land and unveils the secrets of the world. [The story will be told primarily through the lenses of three main characters, with occasional side character POV chapters. It also draws inspiration from Japanese shounen. So only proceed if you're cool with these aspects.]

This is a story of two old men trying to free from the shackle of their destiny set in a future only to await their impending doom. This is a story of a dead god, and of a storyteller, trying to break from the bonds of the past. And as their stories go, one of them will face the events that unfold in their distant past, as the other one will unveil its mystery predicted by its future. Is it a mistake to challenge fate, after all? *** The world-building is set upon on the universal scale, with dungeon and old-style fantasy. It has a progression that follows with the consistency of a dungeon setting, although it's not what you call a dungeon, but a function of a crystal. There's a lot to take in this novel, but that's all within my intention. I have always enjoyed challenging conventional ideas. The cover is not mine, it's just temporary.
