《Helpless (Lin-Manuel Miranda x Reader)》The Journey To D.C.

"Really, Lin? That's amazing!"
After the whole you-or-Vanessa debacle, you hadn't really felt like talking to Lin. But to be honest, what he did was to be expected. He chose his girlfriend over a friend. Any other person would do that. But it had still hurt.
Later that day, Lin had texted you and apologized for what happened. He said that he really hadn't wanted to choose between you and Vanessa, but he didn't want to lose her. You said that you understood, and continued to talk like nothing happened after that.
And now, a week later, Lin called you to tell that the president had asked him to perform a song from In The Heights at the White House, but he had asked to do his song about Alexander Hamilton instead.
"Do you think that's dumb?", he asks nervously.
"No, that's really cool. Everyone knows about In The Heights, and people need to know about Hamilton. I'm so excited for you!"
"Thanks Y/N. Y'know, I'm sure I could get you down there."
"Really?", you ask excitedly.
"Yeah, totally. I'll ask Mr. President and let you know."
"Would you really? That would be amazing. Thank you."
"Of course."
You smile, even though he can't see you. "So, when is it?"
"May 12th."
"Are you ready?"
"I think so."
"I believe in you!"
You hear him chuckle softly. "Thanks, Y/N."
"No problem. I'll be your cheerleader there! I'll get everyone to cheer for you. Whoo, Lin!," you whisper-shout, mimicking a crowd.
"Awesome, thanks," he says, and you both laugh.
There's another you loved about Lin: he accepted your weirdness. He thought it was funny, and he always smiled when you said strange things. Who else was like that?
"Well, I need to go. I'll see you later," he says, snapping you out of your thoughts.
"Okay. 'Bye."
"'Bye!"
You hang up, then sit down on your small couch. You were so excited for Lin. He was getting a chance to show the world how amazing he and his song was! And you got to be there!
Smiling, you turned on your TV.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You sigh. You half expected that to happen. But your dumb hope made you think that maybe, just maybe, you would get to go.
Lin doesn't reply, and you know that he was thinking. He always responded as quick as he could, unless the gears in his incredible mind were turning.
You begin to read your copy of Ron Chernow's Alexander Hamilton biography. You were helping Lin write actually quite a few of the songs, and you wanted to be sure that it was as accurate as possible. And that you knew as much as Lin did.
Suddenly, you hear your phone buzz, and you look down to see a message from Lin.
You smile, and feel flattered. Lin wanted you to be there? Not to mention, he gave you credit for writing some of the song. You really only helped write the end. But you were so grateful nonetheless.
Your heart flutters as you stare at the text. Anything for you? That was something that a boyfriend would say to girlfriend. Did he really mean it?
You continue to read, happy that Lin cared that much about you.
The next day, while you were eating a very healthy breakfast of Cinnamon Toast Crunch, your phone screen lights up.
You grin wide, and do a quick happy dance. You were going with Lin to the nation's capital!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So, the plane ride was... amazing. But also very confusing. But you loved the ride to the airport- even though it was at 3:00 am for a 4:30 am flight. (That one was the cheapest)
You ended up carpooling with Lin, and his father drove you two there.
Vanessa went to D.C. early because she had friends there, and both you and Lin agreed that that was for the best. Vanessa doesn't really like you.
You loved Lin's dad. He was so funny, and had a lot of stories to tell. You loved hearing all of them. He reminded you a lot of Lin.
"Mr. Miranda?", you asked during the drive.
"Yes?"
"Can you tell me story of Lin when he was a kid?", you ask, smiling slyly.
"No," Lin moans, putting his head in his hands.
Mr. Miranda smiled. "Of course."
And he told you a bunch of stories. You loved to learn about how Lin grew up. You felt a lot closer to him by the time Mr. Miranda ran out of tales of Lin's childhood.
"Fine, now that you know a lot embarrassing stories about me, you should tell me one about you," Lin said, turning to face you from the front seat.
You laughed. "There's too many to choose from."
"Just tell me one."
You thought for a moment. "Oh, I've got a good one. Okay, when I was... five, I think, I went to my first play. It was 'The Nutcracker', and my older sister was Clara. When the mice came out to attack her, I ran onstage to save her."
Lin smiled, his dark eyebrows tilting down in a way that made your heart melt.
(Y'know, that cute smile)
"I stopped the whole show. The director came out, fuming, but my sister came over and hugged me, and told the director to leave me alone. Everything turned out fine, but my mom didn't bring me to any of my sister's shows after that."
Lin laughed. "That's adorable, not embarrassing."
You pause. "Hmm... embarrassing..." Then, a memory flashed into your mind. "Oh, okay, this was a very embarrassing one."
Lin looked at you in anticipation.
You spent the rest of the ride talking and laughing. You loved being with Lin- and his dad.
When you got to the airport, Mr. Miranda turned around to you and said, "It's been a pleasure meeting you, Y/N. Lin has told me all about you, and it's good to finally put a face to the name."
You looked at Lin, smirking, and he looked away, smiling nervously.
"You too, Mr. Miranda. Thank you for the ride."
He smiled and nodded.
"Gracias, dad," Lin said, kissing him on the cheek.
You and Lin got out and grabbed your suitcases, then walked into the airport.
Security was slow, and it took twenty minutes to finally get to the spot where you put your suitcase through the scanner, then step through the full-body scanner.

"Alright, stay perfectly still," said a security guard.
Lin made a funny scared face, then kept that expression while he was scanned.
You laughed, and the security woman looked between you two with an eyebrow raised as Lin stepped out of the scanner.
"We're not going to have any trouble, are we?", she asked forcefully.
"No, ma'am," you said quickly.
Lin crossed his arms and shook his head from behind the woman.
You looked at him in disbelief, but you couldn't stay like that long. Lin was too handsome to stay mad at.
After making it through security, you and Lin rush to your gate, and make it just as the first boarding group was called. Since you and Lin were in the B group, you had to wait until group A all went in.
Once you were finally on the plane, you found an empty row.
"What seat do you want?", Lin asked, turning to you.
"Um, what seat do you want?", you countered, being the indecisive person you were. Besides, this was Lin's special trip. He deserved to chose what seat he wanted.
He gave you the most gentle smile ever, and you felt your heart flutter- again. "I'll go in the middle seat."
You raised an eyebrow. "Why? Nobody likes the middle seat."
He shrugged. "Well, I guess I'm nobody then."
You laughed, then you and Lin put your bags in the overhead bins, and sit down in your seat.
When the plane began to move, you gripped the handle of your seat so tight that your knuckles turned white. You forgot that takeoffs always made you nervous, what with your stomach dropping and having your whole life depend on one person.
Lin noticed your anxious expression. "Hey, it's going to be okay."
You nodded. "Yeah," you said weakly, looking out the window. It didn't make you feel any better.
As plane starts to go faster, you feel more and more nervous. The knot from the night of the showcase comes back.
To comfort you, Lin slid his palm over your hand, and you intertwine your hands.
The knot quickly loosened, and you felt better in record time. It seemed like Lin always made everything better.
When the plane took off of the runway, your stomach dropped, and Lin squeezed your hand.
You turned and smiled at him, so grateful for this amazing human being.
He smiled back.
But once the plane was level, neither of you let go. Holding his hand comforted you, and it made you feel safe.
You normally felt sick during plane rides, but during this one, you felt fine.
A half hour passed, and you began to wonder why Lin was still holding your hand. You weren't complaining, of course (you know, because you liked Lin), but he didn't like you. So why was he still holding on?
You and Lin talked some of the time, and just sat in a contented silence the other half. You were really enjoying this plane ride- something you never thought you would say.
Neither of you had brought anything to do, but that was fine. Just being with him was enough- and holding his hand!
After an hour, your eyes felt heavy. You realized just how tired you were. You had woken up at 2:30 am to get ready, and that was five hours earlier than when you normally got up.
You try and sleep sitting up straight, but it wasn't comfortable. After a few minutes, you gave up and opened your eyes.
Lin looked at you, a bit amused. "Can't sleep?"
You shook your head.
Lin actually looked really tired too, you noticed. He did wake up as early as you- possibly earlier.
"Here. You can use my shoulder as a pillow."
You looked at him in surprise. "Are you sure?" Vanessa?
"Yeah, of course. Sleeping Beauty needs her rest," he said playfully.
You smiled, then rested your head on his shoulder and closed your eyes, and immediately feel more tired. But just before you fall asleep, you feel a weight on the side of your head, like someone had just laid their head on top of yours.
You opened your eyes and looked around groggily. Where were you?
Then, you remembered. You were on a plane on your way to D.C. with Lin-
You still felt your hand intertwined with his. You felt his head resting on top of yours, and could hear the steady pace of his breathing, which meant he was asleep.
You never wanted to move from this position. How you felt right now was the very definition of comfort and bliss.
You closed your eyes again, and drifted back to sleep.
What felt like five minutes later, you heard, "We've landed. It's time to get off the plane."
You opened your eyes slowly, and saw a flight attendant standing in the aisle, looking annoyed.
You felt Lin take his head off yours at the same time he lets go of your hand, and you suddenly feel very cold, and like reality just slapped you in the face.
While you and Lin were getting your suitcases out of the bin, the flight attendant asked, "So, how long have you been married? Are you going on a honeymoon?"
You bite your bottom lip. How could you say that you weren't dating when you were holding hands and had just used each other's heads as rests while you were sleeping? It would be kinda hard to downplay that one.
"Um, no," Lin said, looking a bit uneasy.
"Oh, dating then?"
Both of you ignored the flight attendant and began walking down the aisle.
When you were inside the airport, Lin stopped and turned to you. "Um, could you not tell Vanessa about the sleeping and hands thing? She might get the wrong idea."
Seriously? Every time you have a romantic moment with Lin, it gets ruined. "Of course."
He gave you a small smile, then you two made your way through the busy building.
That's where you are now, outside the airport, getting a rental car.
And you had a gut feeling that something was going to happen in D.C., but you couldn't tell whether it was going to be good or bad.
