《Whodunnit ?》Chapter 34 - The Final Gasp

Michelle & Reynold could not believe their eyes as they stared at what came through the door. The person had a sinister smile on their face, the smile looked unnatural on the humans face. It looked too big to fit on the persons face. The person was also carrying a pistol in their hand.
"How are you here?" Michelle could barley run it through their mind that this person was the killer. Yes, she knew she had to suspect everyone who was a guest. But knowing that the killer was standing in front of her was something which she couldn't even tolerate.
"It was you!? All along?" Reynold looked disgusted as he looked on in the killers direction.
"Yeah..." The killer trailed off their voice.
"It was hard at first working with you idiots, but I learnt to tolerate you eventually. Too bad I have to kill one you now. Y'know I was going to let the person who won the puzzle win. But, this person showed to be an unworthy adversary. So sorry Michelle, but..."
The killer let out a single bullet. The bullet pierced through Michelle's brain with ease, Reynold stared in terror as Michelle's now dead body limped to the floor. Just like every other body, a pool of blood slowly circulated around the deceased.
Reynold could hardly believe it. He had won. The killer had killed the final guest, he was the worthy adversary. However he knew he couldn't exactly be happy, as his closest friend was dead on he floor beside him.
"So, that was fake?" Reynold asked regarding the killers staged death.
"Yeah." Nelson pulled another massive smile, feeling proud of himself that he finished his side of he deal. Nelson himself almost couldn't believe he'd kept in the secret for that long. After the deaths of Justin, Hannah, Courtney, Alec, Talia, Greg, Natalie, Jamie, Dan & Brianna he often considered just revealing his role to get the game over with. But after he'd been chosen by the elite group, he knew he had to fulfil his role. It was his duty.

Reynold pointed his finger in Nelsons direction. "I knew it! You're little 'charity worker' act was getting way to suspicious to be true. You're sick!"
Nelson shrugged "Uh, maybe? But I had a duty to enrol, and I for sure did it. Congratulations Reynold ! You are the winner."
Suddenly, Giles burst through the doors with a suitcase. "It's true Reynold! You have won."
Giles opened the case, $250,000 in cash was laying comfortably inside. Giles for once had a genuinely warm smile, he was happy that once again, like Kam, someone had won the game. He knew that the winner would never fully recover from the experience at Rue Manor. But he was glad that they had their life back, and had some money to cushion the blow.
"What happens now?" Reynold said in a shocked voice.
"You get to walk free! And you get the honour of arresting Nelson. The real killer..."
"Yeah Giles, thanks for the speech. But I'm afraid there's been a change of plans. You see when Kam arrested Cris in the last game, our little group of killers knew we made a mistake. We let out original member go down in flames, but that's not going to happen this time. No no. In fact, if you want me to go down in flames just like Cris. Then maybe Rue Manor and you two should go down in flames too?" Before Reynold or Giles could respond, Nelson pulls out a single lighter from his jean pocket and set it alight against the lair's curtain. The material of the curtain immediately set alight, the embers started to array around the room by the time that Nelson had left the room, and locked the door.
"Nelson!" Giles raised his voice as he pounded against the door. The butler himself couldn't believe that the group of killers turned their backs of them. The butler was promised that his life would not be in threat if he stuck by the rules.

"I should be winning here! I'm the 'worthy adversary' I can't die!" Reynold was screaming at this point as the fire started to slowly approach him. The fire had already caught some of Michelle's deceased body.
The next thing Giles & Reynold knew, they saw black.

Adjusting to the bright, almost harsh lighting of the hospital seemed like an impossible task for Reynold as he woke up. The doctor felt terrible, the inhalation of the smoke from the fire should have killed him, he knew that. But now, he was lucky he was alive and was safe.
However, he was wrong.
Just a mere movement of the wrists alerted Reynold of his situation. He was handcuffed to the hospital bed.
"I don't think you'll be getting out of those things anytime soon." One female voice commented.
Reynold squinted his eyes to adjust under the hospital drugs. He saw a rather professional looking woman, staring deeply into him.
"Who are you?" The winners voice sounded extremely hoarse after all the screaming in Rue Manor.
"Detective Miller. And now that you're awake I can finally tell you that you are under official arrest for the murders of Justin Ells, Hannah Taylor, Courtney Fox, Alec Kallimaster, Talia Hanson, Greg Luton, Natalie Underwood, Jamie Lloyd, Dan Greash, Brianna Doan & Michelle Lawson."
"WHAT? No you've made a massive mistake! Nelson killed them all!" Reynold instantly defended himself after the wrong accusation.
Detective Miller laughed slightly "Yes, we were told by Mr Grey that you would probably say that. After all, you would do that. We've heard all about your sick little game, making the victims play for their lives. I hope you realise that when this all gets out in public, this will go down in history in one of the most sadistic crimes ever committed."
"You have to be kidding me here? I won! Nelson shot Michelle in the head and declared me as the winner!"
"Well, luckily we have statements from the maids of Rue Manor and Giles himself, all declaring that you presented yourself as this feared 'killer' in that lair, and shot Miss Lawson in the head. Oh and may I add? You actually killed twelve people, Brianna Doan was two months pregnant. There's also no doubt you killed some of your elderly patients like the rumours suggested. What's the kill count? 40? 50?"
Reynold could hardly believe the information which was just passed on to him. How could Giles and the maids just throw him under the bus like that? He didn't understand. All he could do was scream, scream on top of his lungs. Later that day, he was wheeled out of that hospital room. And was later emitted to a physiatrics ward.
It was later diagnosed by a professional that Reynold Jiggon had suffered a full mental breakdown as a result of being made aware of his arrest. He was eventually charged of the twelve murders of the unsuspecting guests of Rue Manor. Nelson Grey, the only 'survivor' became a household name across America. People praised him for the honest gameplay he alleged, and that he tried his 'best' to make everyone get out alive.
In his news interviews, he described Reynold as a 'sick monster' and that he suspected him of being the killer after he never made himself 'scared', something which the public agreed with. Giles was also interviewed for news stations and was forced to lie through his teeth. He knew that the real killer, Nelson was sitting alive somewhere, grinning, knowing he had snuggled himself out of killing twelve people.
The ultimate cover up. Which would be never be revealed. And would go down in history as one of the most bizarre and twisted crimes in the history of homicide.
A killer, had walked free.
