《A Dragon Rider's Element》Bad Dog ( 45 )

Ty lowered his spear in confusion as the black ball of fluff bounced over to us.
The small dog stopped a few feet away from us and let out a small yet adorable yip.
I couldn't help myself but I awed at the little fluff ball.
"Don't aw at it. That thing is evil", Ty scolded.
"Evil? How could this adorable little guy ever hurt everybody?", Roy cooed as he bent down next to black Pomeranian.
The Pomeranian barked happily as Roy patted its head.
This broke me and I kneel next to Roy. I reached out and petted the black fur of pomeranian.
"Don't pet it!",Ty shouted.
The small Pomeranian whimpered when Ty raised his voice at it.
I picked him up and gently cradle him in my arms to comfort him.
"Oh, it's okay little guy. Ty's just a big O' meanie pants. Oh yes, he is", I said using the baby voice.
Ty groaned and facepalmed himself as the puppy licked my face.
"Can we keep him?", Roy pleaded.
"No! We can't keep him!", Ty shouted again.
"We can't just leave him here", Alex said also entranced by the puppy's fluffiness.
"Yes we can and we are. Let's go", Ty ordered.
"Alright."
I took the puppy off my lap and sat him on the ground.
We got up to leave, but the black Pomeranian followed us.
"No. Stay", I said.
The dog stopped and tilted his head to the side.
"Good boy."
We continue walking but was soon stopped by the small puppy again.
Before I could tell it to go. The Pomeranian started baking fiercely at us.
Ty readied his spear, but I stopped him.
"Don't kill him!", I said glaring at him.
When the dog saw the spear it started growling.
Its eyes started to glow a bright red and its body started to grow at an unnatural pace.
The dog began to leak black smoke and when the smoke cleared the small Pomeranian was gone.
In its place was a giant black three-headed dog with blood-red eyes.
Cerberus.
The heads barked and snarled at us.
Before any of us could react the middle head snapped at us.
We all jumped to the sides of the cave, but in the small cave and are way forward blocked there wasn't much space to go.
While this hurt us it also helped. Cerberus was just small enough to fit in the cave but it was a tight fit for him.

The heads followed all of us, splitting up.
The left head followed me. The large head bites at me and I just barely dodged it.
"Bad dog!", I shouted.
"Can I kill it now?", Ty yelled.
"O' just shut up and do something."
Ty couldn't help but smile as he threw his spear at Cerberus's chest. Lightning sparked off the spear as it embedded itself in the dog's chest as while as electrocuting him.
Cerberus yipped in pain while it stumbled back in the cave.
The left head bites down on Ty's spear and ripped it out throwing it behind its body. Then the middle and right head reared back their heads and shoot out two balls of red fire, at a now weaponless Ty.
Without hesitation, I moved in front of fireballs and held out my hand. The fire slipt around me and extinguished itself.
Ty came out from behind me and stood by my side, his hand outrighted.
His spear returned to his hand as he smiled at me.
"Thanks."
I smiled and nodded at him. Cerberus growled at me, angry that I interrupted his kill.
All three of Cerberus's heads shot fireballs at me and Ty.
Ty ducked behind me again, his back pressed against mine.
I easily blocked the fires again, but thing time a fired back three fireballs of my own.
I nailed each of the three heads in the face.
Cerberus cried out in pain again as his middle head threw back his head and hit the top of the cave.
Chunks of rocks fall from the cave ceiling. It was a miracle that there wasn't a cave-in. However, It seemed I spoke too soon as large cracks formed above my head.
A large chunk of earth fell thankfully before I was crushed by the weight of the rock two hands wrapped around my waist and I was pulled back with enough force that caused me and my rescuer to fall.
More rocks fell as the cave collapsed in on itself.
I heard the others shouting in the distance, but the sound of the rock falling easily drowned it out.
I wanted to get up and go to them but went I tried I was pulled back down by Ty.
Ty pulled me under him using himself as a shield while the cave completely collapsed.
Then everything went dark.
*****
I woke up in darkness coughing from the dust. My whole body hurt but I don't think anything was broken. I sat up in the darkness.

Everything was quiet aside from someone's ragged breathing in the distance.
I sparked a fire in my hand and held it up.
I saw the aftermath of the cave-in. Rock spikes from the ceiling were in etched into the ground and shattered stones were everywhere. Dust hung in the air creating a thick fog in what remained of the cave.
I looked over to the direction of the ragged breathing. The heavy dust fog made it hard to see, but I couldn't mistake that yellow T-Shirt anywhere.
I quickly scrambled over to him. He was awake, but his eyes were barely open. He laid tiredly on his side. Cuts and gashes littered his body of head to toe. Although, I could only assume his right leg was covered in cuts as while considering I couldn't see it.
I held the flame closer to him and saw a large chunk of rock had fallen on his right leg and pinned him there.
I gasped at the sight before me.
My gasp seemed to make Ty realize my presents. He opened his eyes more, but he didn't look at me, only straight ahead of him.
"Larisa?", He asked weakly.
"Yeah. I'm right here", I said softly as I brushed his hair out of his head and held onto him.
"Are you hurt?"
"No, you saved me.", I smiled at him, but I doubt he could see it.
"Good."
"I..I what do I do? I don't know how to help", I said almost on the verge of tears.
"Find the others."
"No, I'm not leaving you."
"Larisa", he said trying to reason.
Before I tell could tell him to go to hell I heard familiar voices calling mine and Ty's names.
"We're over here!"
I heard their voice is but I couldn't find them.
They called out again. This time I realize the voice came from behind me.
I turned and saw a giant rock wall separating us.
There was no way around it. We were trapped on opposite sides.
"Damn", heard Jason curse when they realized what happened as well.
"Is Ty with you?", Roy asked.
"Yes. We're both here. But he's hurt. It's bad."
"Okay, just stay there. Will find a way around alright.", Alex shouted thurgh the rocks.
"Alright, but please hurry", I pleaded.
I heard them leave and I looked back down at Ty. His breathing was still ragged, but he seemed more here now. He looked up at me weakly while I cradled his head in my lap.
I could see him fighting to keep his eyes open. I started talking to him to help him in the fight. It was mostly nonsense, but neither of us cared.
I kept talking until I saw a glowing set of eyes in the darkness, three to be exact.
The eyes stared right at me and my words died on my tongue.
"What's wrong?", Ty asked noticing my silence.
Cerberus's growls answered Ty's question for me.
Ty sat up to the best of his ability, which wasn't much, and looked back at Cerberus as he stocked towards us.
The creature looked worse for wear. He was cut and gored all over his body, however, it showed he was more angry than hurt.
"Larisa, run", Ty ordered as he summoned his spear weakly.
"I wouldn't leave you before why the hell do you think I would now", I hissed at him as I took the spear from his hand and stood in front of him. Placing myself between him and Cerberus.
"Larisa, please. Go", Ty begged behind me.
I didn't reply as Cerberus ran at us and suddenly I had an idea. I just hoped I could pull it off.
As Cerberus ran closer to us Ty continued to plead for me to run and leave him, but I stayed and planted my feet frim.
I raised Ty's spear and threw it as hard as I could at Cerberus's leading left paw.
I mentally thanked God as the spear hit its mark, embedding Cerberus's paw in the ground.
The speed that Cerberus was running caused him to flip over. His long body came barreling towards me. I ducked before it hit me and also repaying the favor and shielding Ty with my body as Cerberus slammed into the boulder that pinned Ty moving it just enough for me to pull him out from under it.
I dragged Ty away as Cerberus collected himself and started biting at us again, however, the spear in his paw him held back. Keeping us just out of biting range.
"Good Boy", I smirked.
"Did you plan that?", Ty asked.
"Spilt second decision really, but yes."
Ty laughed dry as I helped him up, his arm around my neck for support.
"Let get out of here", Ty laughed as we walked away from a very angry Cerberus.

Authors Notes: I consider this to be a comming-of-age Sword and Sorcery story based mostly on the style of classic western fantasies. So if that's your thing then I encourage you to take a peek. Something I want to mention though is that the main character starts of pretty wimpy, and that might not be your thing. That being said, if you stick with him he's got a long way to grow. Also, while this version of the story is meant to be fully readable, more dicerning readers may want to wait until I move out of rough draft phase. There may be some inconsistancies with character and plot while I am still in the rough draft phase. I'm sorry for this, but this is my first web novel and from what I've read the best way to get a good novel out is to write write write, and then edit ruthlessly after you're finished with the book, so that's the plan I'm going to follow. Again, this is a rough draft. Everything you are reading is subject to change, including the name, title, and cover photo. This may no longer be the case once I've decided I know where this fiction is going and I have a reasonable understanding of the characters and their behavior. You're reading what comes off my keyboard as it's made, with very limited editing. There will be mistakes in the text. I do a quick spell check to take out the worst of the errors, but there will be some I miss. You can point them out in the comments if they are particularly confusing or glaring and I will try to fix them, however I am not overly concerned about minor errors as this is not the final draft by any means.
