"Shawn. You have to promise not to call me or see me. It just can't happen"
"But honey" Shawn protested.
"What did I just say?" I interrupted before he could continue further. "Don't call or text because I will not answer" I took out my phone from my back pocket. "You know what? I think I'm just going to block you"
Shawn quickly placed his hand on my forearm. "Please. Don't. Why do we have to do this?"
"I'm sorry love bug. It's just bad luck to see and talk to each other before the wedding"
"Since when have you been superstitious?"
"Since the beginning of time" I smiled softly and walked into his arms. I looked up at him and went on my tip toes to place a kiss on his plump pink lips. "Don't worry. Tomorrow you'll see me again and I'll be in the dress you've been dying to see"
"I look forward to it, Ms. Sinclair" He grinned.
My mouth went agape. "Today's the last day that I'm Ms. Sinclair"
"Crazy, isn't it?"
"It is" I nodded my head. "I love you"
"I love you more" He leaned down to give me a kiss but I intercepted it with my hand. "Save it for the alter"
Shawn pouted. "You're already cutting me off. At least let me kiss you one last time before you have to go"
"Alright" I gave in and gave him one last passionate kiss before leaving him to go to my hotel.
--------------------
After spending two hours getting my hair and makeup done, it was finally time to get dressed into my wedding dress. Tiffany came into the room and helped me get into the dress.
"Shawn's losing his mind" She spoke as she helped zip up the back of my dress and fluffed it around.
Before I could respond, Anna knocked on the door, walked in, and said, "Shawn's losing his mind"
"What do you guys mean?" I asked as I looked at the mirror and watched Tiffany fix my dress and Anna bounce my loose curls around, then placed my long veil on top of my head.
"He's been pacing around the room for minutes" Anna chuckled.
"I haven't seen him this nervous since the first time he wore a leather jacket" Tiffany smiled.
"He's not getting cold feet, right?" I asked worriedly.
"Absolutely not" Anna and Tiffany stated, simultaneously.
"I think he's more nervous about you getting cold feet" Anna noted.
Tiffany and Anna both stepped back and looked at me in the mirror.
"You're gorgeous" Tiffany grinned.
Anna nodded. "Shawn's a lucky guy"
"Well I wouldn't be looking like this if it weren't for you two. Thank you"
"Any time" Tiffany gushed. "Are you ready for your family to come in?"
I nodded my head. "Yes please"
Tiff and Anna exited to retrieve my parents. I looked up at the clock that hung above the vanity in this huge dressing room I was in. Ten minutes until the wedding.
----------------------
"Are you ready?" My dad asked me as we walked out of the dressing room, my arm hooked to his.
"Bigger question. Are you ready?" I was holding a bouquet of royal blue, pink, and white flowers and two people were making sure that nothing gets caught on the train of my veil behind me.
"No. My youngest daughter getting married at 21? You're practically still a baby to me"
I chuckled. "I will always be your 21 year old baby. No matter what"
We came to a final stop, now outside, in front of two large bush walls that had an opening in the center which was where I was going to be walking down the aisle with my dad. There was a sudden change in the music which signified that it was time for us to turn the corner and walk down.
My dad and I went to the opening and began walking slowly down the aisle. I looked down at the ground and saw a trail of flower petals leading to the alter. This made me smile knowing that Layla happily walked down before me. I looked up and immediately saw Shawn in a standard black tux, white shirt underneath, and a black bow tie. The people sitting on the seats that were placed next to the aisle all stood up but all I could really focus on was Shawn. My mind was running in circles as everything seemed to be moving in slow motion.
He looks so handsome. I can't believe this is happening right now. This is Shawn Mendes, the person I idolized, the person I fell in love with in the blink of an eye. Holy sh-
My final thought was interrupted since my dad and I made it to the alter and a small microphone was attached onto my dress. Shawn shook my dad's hand. "Thank you, Jim" Shawn whispered since there was a microphone attached to his suit so that everyone could hear the ceremony.
"Please" My dad smiled. "Call me dad" He gave Shawn a hug then sat down next to my mom at the front row of the seats.
I clasped my right hand in Shawn's left and looked at him. "Hi" I smiled, tears already forming in my eyes.
"Hey" He bit his lip and grinned back. "You look beautiful"
"So do you" I giggled.
The audience took a seat and Shawn and I positioned ourselves to face the marriage officiant, Mr. Andrew Gertler.
Shawn and I wanted someone close to us to marry us and Andrew offered to get ordained to do so.
Andrew cleared his throat. "First, I'd like to welcome and thank you all for being here on this special day. Family, friends, and loved ones. It is no coincidence that you all are here today to celebrate the joyous celebration of these two lovebirds. Each of you were invited here today because you represent importance in the individual and collective lives of Shawn and Alana"
He paused and looked around. The winery we chose to have the wedding at had a large garden with many beautiful colored flowers, topiary bushes, and fountains.
Andrew continued. "I truly can't think of a better venue than a Napa, California winery for an occasion that I know is not only monumental for the wedded couple-to-be, but for all of us who are lucky enough to know and love them as individuals; but even more so as a perfect pairing"
"The most remarkable moment in life is when you meet the person who makes you feel complete. The person who makes the world a beautiful and magical place. The person with whom you share a bond so special that it transcends normal relationships and becomes something so pure and so wonderful, that you can't imagine spending another day of your life without them. For Shawn, that happened around six years ago when he met me and we became great friends. But about 2 years ago, he met Alana, who is pretty wonderful too"
Shawn, the audience, and I chuckled at Andrew's words.
He continued. "I know how deeply these two care for and love one another, and I feel privileged to be here today among all of you as a witness of their commitment to a lifetime of love for one another"
"I think I've had the good fortune to meet most of you here today at some point or another, but for those of you whom I haven't met, my name is Andrew Gertler. I met Shawn when he started becoming big on a social media platform called Vine and I sent him a plane ride to meet with me and the President of Island Records, at the time, to try and score him a record deal which, obviously, was a life changing time in his life. I met Alana a couple of days after Shawn did and I was pretty hesitant about the relationship because girls these days can be quite crazy when it comes to people they admire but I knew and felt from that day that she was one of the special ones"

I smiled at Gerty and rested my head on Shawn's shoulder while he continued on with his speech.
"As a third-party spectator to Shawn and Alana's developing love, it was extremely clear that the two of them represent a perfect pairing because each of them complements the other so well. They balance one another, and while each of them are tremendous individuals on their own, together they are even better. And being better together, as a team, a unit, and partners in crime, is what has been years in the making and ultimately leads us to being here today, witnessing their commitment to one another in front of those they love most"
"I wish I could tell you a single story about Shawn and Alana that summarizes their relationship and how they enrich each other's lives, and the lives of each of us, but the truth is there isn't one single event that is a good encapsulation of what they mean to me, to each other, and to all of us. But what I do know is that both of them care deeply and passionately for each other; they protect each other; they make each other laugh and think outside themselves; that time magically seems to both fly and slow down when they're together. They help each other in ways that are obvious and unnoticed, but always appreciated"
"But it's also my personal experiences with Shawn and Alana that highlight the quality of their love. It doesn't matter if I'm with them in person, or simply in a bizarre group text with them—when I'm engaging with Shawn and Alana, I am always enjoying myself. And I am certain that that's part of what makes them so special to each of us: how happy and contented we feel when we are with them. And what I wish for them on their wedding day is that their lifetime together as a team is one of complete contentment; full of those moments that they wish would never end, and that they continue to make one another smile and laugh as they make each of us do"
"So, without further ado..."
"Dearly beloved and honored guests, We are gathered together here to join Shawn Peter Raul Mendes and Alana Rose Sinclair in the union of marriage.
This contract is not to be entered into lightly, but thoughtfully and seriously, and with a deep realization of its obligations and responsibilities.
The bride and groom have each prepared vows that they will read now. Traditionally, the groom would speak his vows first but we're going to be a little nontraditional today and allow Alana to read her vows first"
I turned to Elena who was on my left and handed her my bouquet. I turned to Shawn and held both of his hands in mine.
I took a deep breathe and stared straight into his eyes. "Shawn Mendes. Where do I even begin? I think our love story started earlier than you know, back in 2015 when I was with my cousins at Disneyland and they introduced me to a song called Stitches. Throughout the years, I was very familiar with you and your hit songs but I never really listened to everything else. But that suddenly changed when I heard you sing Lost in Japan and I think those sexy falsettos just sucked me into a large Shawn vacuum" He grinned and shook his head.
"I ended up learning the lyrics of all of your songs in the span of one month. You could say I was obsessed which I think would be considered an understatement. Fast forward to a couple of years ago, I never would have imagined you to ask me to show you around Sacramento, the day after I met you at the concert after forgetting my phone in the arena. That same night, we ended up finding out that we were staying at the same hotel and I went downstairs where we talked for hours at the little cafe. It was a pretty crazy time for me because you were this guy that I idolized for a while and you were even more perfect than I expected you to be in person. You are one of the most thoughtful and caring person I have ever met. Standing through lines of a bunch of your fans for hours and taking pictures with each and everyone, to starting the Shawn Mendes Foundation where people can donate to multiple charities that help children's health care, youth empowerment, anti-bullying, and more. That may have been a shameless plug but I don't care. You work so hard, not only for yourself and your family, but also for the people who admire you as much as I do. I've always been incredibly proud of you and it's safe to say that you've inspired me to be a better person. You make me happy, love bug. More happy than I have ever been. This is the peak of my life, standing with you, and I promise that I will continue to make you as happy as you make me. I promise to always make you pancakes and eggs on holidays, watch movies with you until we both awkwardly fall asleep on the couch, and surprise you when you least expect it. But beyond that, I promise to be understanding of your decisions and support you through whatever it is you're going through, good or bad, always and forever" I gave him a tight-lipped smile.
"I'd have more to say but we'd be here for ten days straight so I think I'll end it at that" The crowd laughed.
Shawn squeezed my hands and I squeezed back. "Alana Sinclair. The process of writing this was so difficult for me because there aren't enough words to explain my love for you. That moment I saw you in the crowd while I was performing in Sacramento, I think it was love at first sight. Gosh that sounds so cheesy. Anyways, fate brought us together and I'm glad I asked you to show me around because it all led to this. One of the many things I learned from being with you is how to be forgiving and have empathy, and I think many others can agree with me on this. You're so incredibly forgiving and it's crazy sometimes because you would think that you should never forgive a person after all the crap they put you through but in the end, you still end up letting them into your life with open arms"
"I write love songs and perform them to people. That's what I do for a living but I don't think those songs were genuine until I met you. Love is such a hard thing to explain and you know how I feel about you; I'm crazy about you and you know it. Statistically, the chances of meeting your meeting your soulmate are 1 in 10,000 and I think you're that 1. I've never met someone who so perfectly completes me. Today, I promise you this: I will laugh with you in times of joy, and comfort you in times of sorrow. I will share in your dreams and support you as you strive to achieve your goals. I will listen to you with compassion and understanding, and speak to you with encouragement. I promise to listen to you and learn from you, to support you and accept your support. I will celebrate your triumphs and mourn your losses as though they were my own. I will love you and have faith in your love for me, through all our years and all that life may bring us. I promise to always wear face masks and try to kiss you to make your face all slimey. I promise to always try not to Instagram Live and drive, even on the freeway. I promise to cuss loudly at video games when I'm playing with Brian even though you call me an idiot for doing so. I vow to snuggle you as often as possible. I vow to make you really really laugh out loud. I vow to always try one bite of any meal you create even though I know I'll just end up eating all of it. I promise to be the best parts of me that fit perfectly with the best parts of you. Although I will be imperfect, I promise to be sensitive and respectful of your unique talents, abilities, and quirks. I promise to lend you strength for all of your dreams. I promise that you will be as important to me as coffee, as chocolate, and as all the episodes of Grey's Anatomy put together. I love you, honey"
I chuckled, tears streaming down my face. "I love you more"
"Oh my gosh" Andrew spoke up. "I was not expecting that. You two have grown so much" He sniffled. "I'm sorry. Let's continue"
"Alana, do you take Shawn to be your lawfully wedded husband? Do you promise to love, honor, cherish, and protect him, forsaking all others, and holding only unto him forevermore?"
"I do" I state.
"And Shawn, do you take Alana to be your lawfully wedded wife? Do you promise to love, honor, cherish, and protect her, forsaking all others, and holding only unto her forevermore?"
"I do" Shawn smiled.
"Shawn and Alana will now exchange rings as a symbol of love and commitment to each other. Rings are a precious metal; they are also made precious by you wearing them. Your wedding rings are special; they enhance who you are. They mark the beginning of your long journey together. Your wedding ring is a circle—a symbol of love never ending. It is the seal of the vows you have just taken to love each other without end" Andrew turned around to grab the rings from the table behind him and handed each other's rings to us.
"Alana, please place the ring on Shawn's left hand and repeat after me:
As a sign of my love"
"As a sign of my love" I repeated after Andrew.
"That I have chosen you, above all else"
"That I have chosen you, above all else"
"With this ring, I thee wed, and with it, I bestow upon thee all the treasures of my mind, heart, and hands"
"With this ring, I thee wed, and with it, I bestow upon thee all the treasures of my mind, heart, and hands" I pushed the ring so it was fully on Shawn's finger.
"And Shawn, please place the ring on Alana's left hand and repeat after me:
As a sign of my love"
"As a sign of my love" He repeated.
"That I have chosen you, above all else"
"That I have chosen you, above all else"
"With this ring, I thee wed, and with it, I bestow upon thee all the treasures of my mind, heart, and hands"
"With this ring, I thee wed, and with it, I bestow upon thee all the treasures of my mind, heart, and hands" Shawn slid the ring onto my ring finger, just above my engagement ring.
Andrew continued on with his speech. "To make your relationship work will take love. Continue to date each other. Take time to show each other that your love and marriage grows stronger with time.
It will take trust to know that in your hearts, you truly want what is best for each other. It will take dedication to stay open to one another—and to learn and grow together. It will take loyalty to go forward together, without knowing exactly what the future brings. And it will take commitment to hold true to the journey you have both pledged today"
"And now by the power vested in me by the state of California and the province of Ontario, Canada, it is my honor and delight to pronounce you husband and wife. Shawn, you may kiss the bride!"
I placed my hands over Shawn's shoulders and he placed his on my waist, pulling me in. We kissed as our families cheered beyond us. He ended the kiss and placed his forehead on mine.
"We did it" He whispered.
"We did it" I smiled back.
I pulled away and held Shawn's right hand and turned towards our families.
"I am so pleased to present the newlyweds, Mr. and Mrs. Mendes!" Andrew exclaimed.
Shawn and I smiled happily as we both walked/ danced down the aisle.
FINALLY. They finally got married. I just couldn't wait. I thought about putting the ceremony and the reception all in one chapter but I decided to split it up into three parts. The ceremony, the reception, and the honeymoon. Stay tuned for those chapters!
