《Soulmates | S.M.》41

I threw on a hoodie over my sports bra paired with some short gym shorts. Since I was going to be home alone today, I might as well not give a crap about what I'm wearing for once. I sat down on the plush grey couch and grabbed the television remote off of the coffee table in front of me. I scrolled through Netflix, looking for something to watch, then finally settled on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

I was a little into the movie, around the part where Charlie finds money on the ground and runs to the store to buy a chocolate bar, when I felt soft vibrations coming from my phone on the coffee table. I picked it up and Shawn's face popped up on the screen. I pressed the green answer button and brought the phone up to my ear.

"Good morning sweetheart"

"Good morning love bug"

"The boys and I have arrived; we're just checking into our hotel rooms. What are you up to?"

"I'm currently watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"

"Again?" He chuckled.

"Yes, again" I jokingly scoffed. "Charlie needs all of my love and undivided attention"

"I'm sorry to take you away from Charlie but I have a huge favor to ask"

"Sure. What's up?"

"Camila is coming over to the condo and I was wondering if you could talk to her? She said she really wants to speak with you"

"Camila. As in Cabello?" I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion.

"Yes, as in Cabello. She's having a tough time and it'd be great if you could use your amazing talent of kindness to help her out?"

"I'll see what I can do"

"Thank you so much honey. I'm so sorry for putting this on you"

"It's alright. I'm more than happy to help"

"I love you babe, you're a sweetheart"

"I love you more. Have fun!" I hung up the phone, placed my phone back onto the glass coffee table, then resumed the movie.

I was in the middle of the part where Violet started to blow up into a blueberry when the sound of the door bell came to my ears. I stood up from the couch, paused the movie, then walked to the front door, opening it to reveal a distressed Camila Cabello.

She was wearing sweatpants and a zip-up hoodie; her hair was in a messy bun and she had the dark eye bags under her eyes.

"Hey, Alana" She spoke, a hint of grogginess in her voice.

"Hey" I smiled sympathetically. "Come on in" I motioned her to come inside and she followed as I led her to the couch.

"I'm sorry for bothering you but I just really needed someone to talk to and I think you're the best person for this situation"

I sat beside her. "You're not bothering me at all. What's going on?"

"Well. I told Matthew about Señorita and showed him the music video and he just exploded. Broke up with me and left"

"I'm so sorry to hear that" I reached for her hand and gave it a light squeeze.

"I think I should apologize to you too. I bet you hated seeing me all over Shawn"

"It's business" I shrugged. "What can you do?"

"Thank you for being so understanding about everything. I can't say the same about Matt; he wouldn't believe me when I said that the video was strictly professional and that we had no choice because the labels wanted us to do it"

"Well, in my personal experience, people believe what they want to believe and you can't force someone to believe something that they don't want to. If Matthew doesn't want to take the time to listen to what you have to say, then is the relationship really worth it? You need to know that he can trust you and he's obviously shown that he doesn't"

Camila nodded her head, sniffling. "You're totally right and there are plenty of fish in the sea, right?"

"Yes. But I'd advise you to take it easy. Although he's a total dumbass for not believing you, you love him and it's going to take time for you to move past that"

She sniffled some more, tears starting to fill her eyes. "My gosh. I'm sorry for being such a mess"

I reached over and grabbed the box of tissues we always kept on the coffee table, handing her the box. She took a tissue and blew her nose.

"Don't be sorry. It's not your fault"

I allowed Camila to unwind in silence until she finally spoke. "I uh. I should probably leave you be. I'm sorry for disturbing you" She paused, glancing up at the television. "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" She chuckled softly. "I expected you to be a rom-com kinda gal. You seem like it"

"You guessed correctly and you can stay if you'd like. It's been pretty lonely without Shawn here"

"Are you sure? I don't want to intrude"

"Absolutely. We can eat ice cream, do face masks, and relax. It seems like you really need it"

She grinned and nodded her head. "I'd love that"

And that's exactly what Camila and I did. We spent the day getting to know each other, eating comfort foods, and having a little self care session where we did face masks and exchanged beauty tips.

The sun had set and the bright full moon illuminated the darkness of the condo's living room. The only other light besides the moonlight was coming from the television screen which displayed the end credits of the movie, Heathers, starring Christian Slater and Winona Ryder.

I reached over and turned on the small lamp next to the couch. Camila turned towards me, checking her phone, then glancing back up. "I should probably be heading out, it's getting pretty late. Thank you so much for spending the day with me and all of the advice. It was nice breaking away from the real world for a moment and just being normal for once"

I grinned and stood up, Camila doing the same. "Of course. Thank you for keeping me company. I had a lot of fun today"

I led her to the front door. "Maybe we can have a girls day in the future? We could go shopping and stuff" Camila suggested.

"That'd be fun, yeah. Just text me, you have my number. And if you ever need anything at all, you can always call me"

"Same here. Bye, Alana" She softly smiled before walking down the hallway to the elevator.

"Bye!" I called out before closing the door.

I was falling asleep and melting into the soft grey blankets on the bed when the vibrations of my phone could be heard from the nightstand next to me. I blindly grabbed it, looked at it but quickly shut my eyes again because of the sudden brightness. I slowly opened my eyes and rubbed them as my phone was still going crazy in my left hand. Shawn was spamming me with text messages.

I was in the middle of typing a response when Shawn's caller ID flashed onto my phone screen. I pressed the green button then put the call on speaker phone. To my surprise, it was pretty quiet on the other side of the call, the only background sounds were the muffled voices of other people's conversations.

"Hola mi amor" Shawn slurred. "You've literally crossed my mind allllll night. I even thought I SAW you but it wasn't you it was a stranger. She looked at me weirdly. Annnyyyways. How are you my beautiful baby boo"

I scrunched my nose at the nickname. "Please don't ever say 'baby boo' again. I think the bigger question is how are you doing?"

"Oh. I'm totally fine. I'm currently in the bathroom. Wait there's a bed. Why is there a bed in the bathroom? I need to use the bathroom" I could sense him pout by the sound of his voice. "Babe, I found the toilet!" He exclaimed. I heard the sound of something being unzipped.

"Hey Shawn I think you should call me b-" But it was too late. The sounds that I didn't want to hear could be heard on the other side of the line.

"Wait" I said, thinking about what he said earlier. He finished peeing then zipped up his pants.

"Yeah?" He slurred.

"You said there was a bed in the room?"

"Mhmmm. And a dresser and a television and a couch and a desk"

"Shawn. What did you just pee in?"

"The toilet, duh! What else?"

"Is there a potted plant in there by any chance?"

"A plant?" He paused and I assumed he was looking around the room. "There's one! Right where the t- what happened to the toilet?"

"Shawn, who are you with?"

"Brian and Jon and Matthew and Connor" He stated. "And Shawn. Oh wait that's me" He giggled like a child.

I could hear the sound of a door opening and someone spoke. "There you are, I've been looking everywhere for you" Connor's voice could be heard in the distance.

"Shawn! Let me speak to Connor"

"Okay! Connor, my knight in shining armor wants to talk to you" There was a pause. "No no no. I'm the knight she's the princess, yeah that's it"

"Hello? Alana?" Connor's voice echoed to my line.

"Please tell me you aren't drunk out of your mind"

"No. I've had one drink and that's about it"

"Bless your soul. Can you do me a huge favor and make sure that Shawn doesn't do anything stupid?"

"Yeah of course"

"Thanks so much. I owe you"

"No, don't worry about it. I've got this all taken care of. Get some rest, Alana, you deserve it. Your child over here will be coming home in a couple of days"

I chuckled. "Sure thing. Thanks again" I hung up the phone and immediately fell into the trance of a deep sleep.

————————-

Yet again, the vibrations coming from my phone woke me up from my slumber. I rolled around in the bed before grabbing my phone and answering the call.

"Baby?" Shawn groaned, his morning voice taking over.

"Hello?" I replied groggily.

"Did I wake you?"

"Yeah but it's alright"

"I saw that I called you last night. How drunk was I?"

"Very drunk. You peed in a plant"

"I peed in a pl- HOLY CRAP"

My eyes widened, fully concerned. "Shawn?! Are you alright? What's going on?!"

"My left arm hurts like hel- HOLY CRAP"

"WHAT IS IT?!" I yelled, impatient.

"THERE'S A BUTTERFLY ON MY LEFT ARM"

I chuckled. "Are you deathly afraid of butterflies or something?"

"Not at all. There's a butterfly tattoo on my arm"

"A tattoo?!"

"I must have gotten it last night when I was drunk out of my mind"

"Let me see! And where the hell was Connor?!"

"Connor? What about Connor?"

"I asked him to look over you last night and he obviously failed at doing so"

"I honestly think he got drunk too. I remember something. I think he jumped into a pool with some girl. I can't remember"

"Well. It's too late now. Lemme see the tattoo"

"Here. I'll take a picture and send it to you. Stay on the line!"

"Don't worry. I'm not going to miss my chance to scold you"

He chuckled, silence taking over the line as he was taking the photo, I suppose.

I got the notification that Shawn sent me a photo then opened up the message.

"Wow" I said. "I don't think I can scold you. It looks stunning"

"You think so?"

"Absolutely"

"Well then. I love it too"

"I'm still going to criticize you though. Why'd you get so drunk last night?"

"Partying with a bunch of people in their early twenties is a very dangerous thing to do sweetheart. It's like a new soul possesses you and your only motivation is to party"

I bit my lip. "Well I don't want to be worrying about you. Stay safe okay. Don't do stupid things. Make sure you have someone reliable to be the sober person in the group. Remind yourself that Connor isn't that person"

He chuckled. "Thanks mom, I'll remember"

I shook my head and chuckled.

"Heyyyy. Let me see you honey. It's been about a day. I miss you" My phone screen displayed that Shawn wanted to FaceTime so I accepted it.

Shawn's excited yet tired face popped up on the screen as I faced the camera towards my blanket-covered legs.

I watched as he pouted. "I wanna see youuu"

"You've picked the wrong moment sir. I look like a raccoon"

"I bet you don't look like a raccoon. I see you every morning and it's like waking up next to a goddess"

"You're sweet" I responded, removing the blanket off of my legs and standing up to go to the bathroom. I set the phone down to where Shawn could only see the ceiling.

"Alanaaaaa. Let me see youuu" Shawn whined.

"Hold on, child" I grabbed my face wash on the bathroom counter, turned on the faucet, and started scrubbing the soap onto my face.

"You literally look great, I already know it. There's no need to do all of this"

"Patience!" I yelled. "You should already know. You wrote a song about it yourself"

I heard a light laugh and some shuffling in the background. I opened a drawer underneath the granite counter top and pulled out a brush.

Shawn started strumming some chords on his acoustic guitar. He began humming then transitioned to lyrics. "First you say you love me, I say 'I love you more' , I wake up in the morning and I'm not alone, tell me that you're willing then you say you won't, can you make your mind, Alana I'm losin' my patience"

I smiled at his change of lyrics as I finished brushing my hair and fluffed it. "You sound heavenly" I picked up the phone, turning the camera around to face me.

Shawn's eyes lit up and he grinned. "There she is" He mumbled to himself. "Are you wearing my shirt?" I walked back to the bed with my phone, sitting myself against the headboard and covering my legs back up wit the blanket.

"Yes. I miss you and your scent" I replied then watched him on the screen. He set his guitar down and laid himself down, resting himself on a pillow. He bit his bottom lip and grinned at me.

I grinned back at him and just watched him stare back at me. "How did I get so lucky" I said, breathing out because I was unintentionally holding my breath.

His smile widened, showing off his pearly white teeth. "I wish I was there with you. I can just imagine all of the things I would do"

"And that is?" I raised my eyebrow in curiosity.

"I'd be laying down next to you, of course. Your head would be on my chest, my left hand intertwined with your right. You'd occasionally move your head so that I could plant soft kisses to your plump lips"

My heart beat skipped a little at his description. "You're quite the one with words, aren't you"

"I mean. I am a songwriter. It's in my blood"

I chuckled softly. "You're a dork"

"Hey hey heyyy. I may be a dork but at least I'm your dork"

"Then can my dork come home. I miss you a lot" I pouted.

"Have patience. I'll be home soon"

"Soooooon. It better not be your definition of soon"

He chuckled. "Of course it isn't. I can't wa-" Shawn's sentence was interrupted by the sound of the door opening.

"Doing all right in here?" Connor's voice made it's way to the phone.

"SHAWN. Tell Connor to come to the phone"

Shawn raised his eyebrows at Connor. "I think you're in trouble, dude"

Connor slowly creeping into the camera's view. "Heyyy Alana" He awkwardly smiled.

"What the hell happened to 'don't worry about it. I've got this all taken care of'?"

He scratched the back of his head. "You see here. I can't explain because I don't remember anything. Except the shots that I took. Camera and alcohol" He displayed his awkward smile yet again and moved out of the frame.

"Please don't kick his ass. Although I would pay to see that"

"Who said I was going to kick his ass?"

"The glint in your eyes"

"Why don't I kick both of your asses for being idiots and getting drunk out of your minds" I smiled.

"Jeez mom. I'm sorry. We won't do it again"

I chuckled and shook my head. He really is my dork.

Wooooowwww. Another chapter within the same week?!?! I'm on a roll.
