"Do you think?" He paused for a second. "Are you?"
"Pregnant?" I finished his sentence.
"When was the last time we um. Did stuff?"
I thought about it for a little. "I don't know? At least a month ago?"
"Is that enough time for symptoms to show up?"
"I don't know. I think so? I think I missed my period too. Let me check online" I pulled out my phone from my pocket and was beginning to search for it but Shawn held out his hand, causing me to stop.
"We should go do this privately. If someone overhears and it's just a false alarm, then I wouldn't want to get their hopes up"
"Alright" I nodded, following Shawn to the dining room to say goodbye to Aaliyah. We entered the room and Shawn spoke up. "Hey Chica" She looked up from her phone. "Alana and I have some errands to run, tell Mum and Dad that we said hi, okay?"
Aaliyah gave a small frown. "Alright. I'm glad you two are back together" She got up and led us to the door, giving us both hugs on the way out.
Shawn and I sat in the car as I pulled out my phone to see if my symptoms matched. I pulled up a website and read it out loud. "It says here that symptoms can start at 4 weeks, vomiting, headaches, fatigue"
"Have you been experiencing all those?"
"Yeah" I said, silence absorbing the interior of the car. Shawn started the engine and began driving. I spoke up, "If I am pregnant, what would do you wanna do?"
"What do you mean?" He glanced at me through the mirror and focused back onto the road.
"Would you want to keep it?"
Shawn reached his hand over to mine, giving it a small squeeze. "Whatever you want to do"
I smiled softly at him. I was worried that if I was pregnant then it would disrupt everything. Shawn and I are both young and Shawn is at the peak of his career. I also wasn't expecting to have a baby until I was married so this would have been somewhat of an inconvenience. I still have to finish college. Our lives just started and a baby on the way would mean that we would need to pause everything in order to take care of it.
Shawn stopped the car, disrupting my thoughts. I looked outside the window and saw that we were at a pharmacy. "I'm going to go down to get a pregnancy test. You can stay here if you'd like"
I decided to stay and wait for Shawn to come back. Around ten minutes later, he came back to the car, got into the driver's seat, and handed me a blue box that contained the pregnancy test stick. We drove back to Shawn's condo and I immediately made my way towards the bathroom. I opened the box, taking out the stick, and followed the directions on the packaging. I put the cap on the stick and placed it on the bathroom counter.

I went downstairs to Shawn in the kitchen. He was leaning against the kitchen island on his phone. Once he saw me, he put down his phone, smiling widely at me. I walked towards him and he held my cheeks in his hands, placing a soft kiss on my lips.
"No matter what that stick says, I will love you unconditionally"
I wrapped my arms around his torso. "I love you Shawn Mendes" I went on the tips of my toes to be able to catch his lips in mine.
"And I love you Alana Sinclair" I rested my head on his chest as he rested his on the top of my head. "How long do we have to wait until it tells us?"
"Five minutes"
Five minutes went by like a sloth running a mile. Shawn followed me upstairs to the bathroom where I had left the test on the counter. I opened the door and walked to the test, picking it up and facing it away from Shawn so he couldn't see it.
"What does it say?" He asked.
I turned the test so that it faced him and he read it, a slight frown forming on his face. "You're not pregnant"
"Did you want me to be?" I asked softly.
"I mean. It's kinda early for all that but I wouldn't have minded a little me or you running around, eh?"
I chuckled. "Yeah. That would have been nice. But it's also for the better. You're at the peak of your career, I have yet to finish college"
He nodded his head until a face of confusion was displayed on his face. "If you aren't pregnant, why are you experiencing those symptoms?"
I thought about it for a second. "I- I don't know."
"Do you want to go to the doctor? Make sure that you aren't really pregnant. I feel like maybe the test was faulty"
I nodded my head. "Okay. I'll go call for an appointment" I called the hospital and asked if there were any openings. Fortunately, someone canceled their appointment and there was an opening for an hour from now.
"Can I go with you?" Shawn asked as I hung up the phone.
"Of course, love"
——————————-
The doctor lifted up my shirt, exposing my stomach, and squeezed a bunch of cold, clear gel, spreading it around. The doctor, Shawn, and I, all looked at the screen to see if there was anything.
Shawn squeezed my hand as the doctor moved the gel around my belly.
She spoke up. "I don't think there's anything. Were you two wanting a baby?"
Shawn and I looked at each other and I looked over to the doctor, speaking up. "Well, I've been showing symptoms. Or at least I think I have. We weren't planning to have one but it wouldn't have been terrible if we did"

The doctor put her hand on her chin, thinking to herself. "Hmm. Have you been experiencing a lot of stress lately?"
I nodded my head. "Kinda. Yeah"
"Well. That solves our problem. Large amounts of stress usually tamper with your bodily functions. To be sure, we'll run some more tests. Other than that, I think we're all done here"
I wiped the gel off of my belly, putting my shirt back down. "Thank you Doctor Green"
"No problem! You two have a good day" She walked out of the room, closing the door behind her, and leaving Shawn and I alone.
I stood up from the examiner bed, Shawn standing up from the chair he was sitting at. He placed his arms around my torso and I put mine around his neck. "This is all my fault" Shawn said.
"What are you talking about?"
"If I just told you about the stuff at the record label, you wouldn't be experiencing all this"
"Shhh" I rested my head on his chest. "That was in the past. This is the present"
Shawn leaned down and placed a kiss on the top of my head. "I love you Alana"
"I love you more, Shawn"
------------------------
I went onto the bed next to Shawn and propped my head up with my arm on the pillow, Shawn doing the same. "Can I be honest with you Alana?"
"Always"
"I feel like this is selfish. Maybe I shouldn't say it"
"No. Tell me what's on your mind" I brought my right hand to his forehead, pushing the hair that was on his face back.
"It kind of makes me sad that you aren't pregnant"
I smiled at him. "That isn't selfish at all. There was something inside me that kind of wished that I was too"
He looked into my eyes, raising his eyebrows, and placed his hand on my waist. "Maybe" He slid it up to the lower part of my stomach. "We can make one" He smirked.
I playfully punched his left arm. "I kind of wished I was pregnant, yes. But I kinda want to wait until marriage, you know? So we have time to ourselves before having to deal with a little child running around"
He jokingly frowned. "Understandable" He grabbed my hand, enclosing it in his, and brought it up to his lips, his eyes widening. "That reminds me!" He got up from the bed and walked over the dresser, opening the first drawer. I watched as he pulled out the familiar small box.
He brought it over to me, sitting down on the bed. I sat up, watching as he pulled out the promise ring. "Gosh" I sighed. "You must have been so hurt when I sent it back"
He shook his head. "Yeah. But it gives me the chance to do this again"
He took my left hand, sliding the ring onto my ring finger. "I need to add another promise to it" He squeezed the hand he put the ring on. "I promise to always tell you when something is at risk of ruining our relationship because I swear to you, those couple of weeks without you were the absolute worst. I have never been heartbroken more in my life than I was in those weeks"
I brought my hands to his cheeks, wiping my thumb in the spot where a single tear slid down his face. I looked from his lips to his eyes, placing a soft yet passionate kiss on his lips. "Don't cry, my love. I promise to never leave you, regardless of what happens between us"
Shawn let out a loud chuckle. I looked at him, my eyebrows perked with confusion. "I'm sorry" He laughed. "I just can't get over how cheesy we sound" I laughed alongside him.
"Ahhh. It's stupidly cheesy but it's true" I smiled. Shawn lied down on the bed and I did the same, resting my body on his chest, looking out the large window across from the bed, the city lights illuminating the night.
Shawn began to brush his fingers through my dark brown hair. "So" He spoke up. "While we're on the topic of kids and marriage, when would be the best time for me to ask you?"
I moved my head so that I was looking up at him. "To marry me?"
"Yeah" He smiled. "I want to know the best time for you. For us"
"Wait. Are you serious?"
"As serious as a man can be"
"Shawn. We've only been dating for 9 months"
"Oh, Alana! You're silly. It's not like I'm going to propose tomorrow. I'm just saying, in the future, how would you want to be proposed to? When's the best time?"
"Well" I paused, thinking about it for a second. "I definitely want us to be dating for a little while"
"And how long is that?"
"Mmm. A little more that just a year"
He nodded his head, waiting for me to continue. "As for how I want it to happen? I don't know. I just want you to be there, with me. In the moment"
Shawn lifted my chin, placing a kiss on my nose. "Sounds good" I looked back out the window, taking in the sights. We both stayed in that position for awhile, embracing each others presence.
"You know what else sounds good?" I turned back to look at him and saw that he was fast asleep. I smiled softly to myself, placing the blanket over his resting body, and pressed my lips onto his forehead for a split second.
"I love you Shawn Peter Raul Mendes"
Shawn moved a little under the covers, mumbling under his breath. "I love you more"
