《Chasing a Spikey Relationship》Chapter 8

Your POV

Okay, so going off on my own was probably not my best idea. To be fair, I had no idea living on the run was going to be this stressful.

Only good news is that with my new abilities I wasn't cold or warm in the presumably cool Washington air.

That's right. In two days I had made it to upstate Washington, far away from Mission Creek and all of its problems I was avoiding.

"Hey, street rat! Clear out!"

Right. Task at hand: finding a dumpster to sleep in for the night.

That's right. The once proud girlfriend of a bionic hero, sleeping in a dumpster.

My search for other people... like me had proved ineffective.

I needed a new plan; public library computer searches could only get me so far.

Sure, I had run into other kids on the run like me, but they had been on the road for ages. No one seemed to know anything.

I was grasping at smoke and I was sure Chase knew it.

He had followed my request not to follow me, which was unexpected, but nice. But he was watching. I knew; the random money that appeared in my dwindling accounts and few houses along the roads that were left open for me were too convenient to be truly random.

But I needed to disappear off the face of the earth. As soon as possible. My metaphorical rap sheet was getting too long. I needed a mentor or guide or something.

It's a shame that signs don't fall out of the sky.

I settled down into the bottom of the dumpster, huddling next to the few trash bags that were there. I had learned fast that Fridays were pick up day, and that on Saturday mornings there was practically nothing in the trash receptacle.

Someone opened the dumpster, and I looked into the bright green eyes of a girl.

"Look honey, I'm afraid that this dumpster's taken. Try closer to the projects," I snarked, holding down my territory.

"You must be (y/n)." She smiled and shook her head.

"I'm at a disadvantage, who are you?"

"I'm Hex," she said, easy smirk on her face, "I'm one of the powereds you've been looking for."

She lifted the lid higher, and her face was blocked from my view due to headlights shining directly behind her, cloaking her in shadow.

"You have been looking for us, haven't you?"
