Recap:

"Well, let's meet the little shit David and his band of merry men, shall we?" Sebastian asked smiling, but the tone of his had turned extremely dangerous. Today was a wrong day to be fucking with him.

Saying that Sebastian quickly started walking to the perimeter wall of the huge villa they were currently housed in.

Chapter 23

--------------

David, the head of enforcers was walking like a caged lion in front of the firmly locked iron gate, the whole villa which was surrounded by high rise walls was guarded like a fortress and they were not letting him in, the enforcers! The guards were staring him and his men down defiantly from the other side of the gate, he bet they would not be so smug if the gate was not between them. Enforcers were not someone you fucked with!

And thinking about the root of all his problems he saw Sebastian storming towards the gate with his minions trailing behind him.

David narrowed his eyes, this would not be a pleasant discussion so he readied himself.

Sebastian casually strolled to the gate "Well! Look what the wolf dragged in." He said and added "What brings you pleasant lot out in the open to our humble abode gentlemen?" He asked causally.

"I need to speak to Roma" David the head of the enforcers demanded, he did not want to waste his time with Sebastian.

"Do you now?" Sebastian asked carelessly.

"Yes!" David spat out.

"And what might be the reason if I can ask?" Sebastian asked.

"You may not! I need to meet her immediately, now open the damn gate!" David said enraged.

"Let's see" Sebastian pretended to contemplate "Her diary is quite full, I can pencil you in between never and when hell freezes over..."

"Sebastian, I am not playing silly games" David warned seriously.

Sebastian dropped all pretense and looked around. David was backed by at least a dozen enforcers and those bastards packed a punch. He would have to treat this as a real threat.

"Listen enforcer. You come to Roma's home and demand to see her, it does not work that way" Sebastian said equally seriously.

"I ask to see Roma in her official capacity as the chair of the council" David said.

Ah...Now Sebastian was getting the picture.

"I don't recall her accepting the post an all...you know the paperwork" Sebastian stalled.

"Majority council voted and until stated otherwise, she is the presumptive chair and as enforcers we demand audience or else we will be forced to use force" David threatened.

Sebastian froze and he narrowed his eyes, his men instinctively reached for their weapons for any eventuality.

Sebastian looked around taking things in and asked "So, let me get this right. The enforcers are demanding audience with the chair of the council and are ready to kill her bodyguards to reach her? Is my understanding correct?"

"Sebastian" David said expatriated "Listen to me carefully, I will explain this only once. As Chair of council her security falls under the enforcers and these men" he said indicating behind him "Are here for her security. Do you understand? I am here to help, to ensure her security. She was attacked earlier today was she not? We are here to take care of her security now." David tried to reason.

Yes! The enforcers were technically responsible for the security of the chair of the council. What a clusterfuck this was turning out to be Sebastian thought bitterly. But that point did raise some interesting questions.

"How do I know you are here to protect? As you said she was attacked, how can I be sure it was not you guys who arranged the whole thing at the behest of your erstwhile master? Besides didn't Roma not kill him? Aren't you obligated to follow up on that? So do you understand why I can't let any of you set foot inside this property...don't you?" Sebastian asked.

David gritted his teeth "Listen we had nothing to do with that attack on Roma and you know that!" He spat.

Sebastian knew that too, it was a low blow by him, the enforcers were to uptight and rule bound folks to participate in such mischief but that did not mean they would not have been used by their masters to exploit and subjugate, how could he forget the incident involving alpha Nick who was the alpha of Evelyn's old pack. Did David not try and manipulate him in to attending the world council and denouncing the link to Roma? Thank god that Nick was a reliable and faithful man and that whole incident had helped Roma out but it could have just as easily gone the other way.

"And" David said breaking Sebastian out of his thoughts. "When Roma attacked and killed Lockbourne he was already impeached from the chair of the council and thus we have no obligations of any kind and yes it is true we are entrusted to keep the council chamber safe and secure but alpha Lockbourne pounced first and Roma defended herself" David said.

Good to hear that, so no pesky problems from the enforcers would follow this mess! Sebastian was relieved, while there was this tricky issue of Roma carrying a gun in to the chamber of the council, David did not bring it up and he knew it would not be perused but he would bet his life that the next time anyone would enter the chamber would be through a metal detector. The enforcers were fast learners and by no means idiots.

"But...the fact remains that the previous chair of the council had on multiple occasions tried to have Roma eliminated so I am not sure how compromised your team is, David...we have our doubts."

David was about to object when Sebastian interjected.

"However we are willing to work with you in good faith...if you are willing to. That would help in building trust and credibility a long way." Sebastian nudged, hoping the enforcer would take the bait.

"For now...you can secure the outer perimeter of the building...which Roma is going to leave shortly anyways. We plan to travel in the next thirty minutes and you can provide escort and all that." He paused and added "And while you do that, I will speak to Roma about this situation and see what her reaction is and try and set up some time with you and her, you need to understand that she at this point is extremely hesitant to place her faith in strangers. Bit her a couple of time in the ass you see...so if you are serious about this you need to earn her trust slowly and not try to muscle your way in which would only make it harder for you."

David mulled over this for a few minutes while everyone waited with baited breath. "All right, we will do it your way for now" he said backing off and barked instructions to his men to cover the perimeter of the villa.

Sebastian sighed in relief and started walking down the path back in to the villa and whispered to the security detail in charge "we wrap up in thirty minutes, not a second more."

"Yes sir!" the security detail responded and scurried away to prepare for their departure.

Sebastian walked in as Roma was finishing her meal.

"Where were you?" she asked "I am almost done" she informed him.

He quickly grabbed a sandwich from the table and said "Good, we really need to leave, we have some unforeseen complications."

"Like what?" She asked.

"Like the bloody enforcers and their leader David!" he stated.

"What about them?" she asked confused. What did the enforcers want with them?

"Nothing much, they just are too interested in your wellbeing now" Sebastian responded cryptically.

"Me?" she asked flabbergasted.

"Yes, you...one of their pesky little job description is to protect the chair of the council...ergo..you."

Her eyes widened.

"Before you worry, you are safe from any repercussions at least from the enforcers on you killing Lockbourne. A technicality save you, the bastard was impeached before he pounced on you and hence he was no longer the chair of the council when he attacked you." Sebastian deadpanned.

"Well, one less thing to worry about I guess" Roma said wryly "What do we do?" she asked.

"To begin with we get the fuck out of Canada and back in to USA and then hightail in to Roma as soon as possible" Sebastian said.

"I mean about the enforcers, do we trust them?" she asked.

He contemplated for a moment "Yeah, I think we can...they are a bunch of uptight pricks with some false sense of higher moral grounds, Lockbourne could not have used them to have a go at you...but just in case I am buying use some time."

"Ok" She said, she was dead tired and would crash on to a bed once in flight.

"We need to leave" He said.

"Apparently, I am all packed and ready" she informed him. The housekeeper has just minutes ago informed her that all her bags had been packed. Advantage of having a staff at your disposal. Packing was not a thing on her worry list.

"Good, we move shortly" he informed and walked out. She just sighed and leaned back on the chair resting her head on it and closing her eyes. What a day!

There was a flurry of activity in and around the Villa and in thirty minutes they were ready to depart, their heading was a private airfield where the plane was fueled and ready to depart. The convoy slowly started to trickle out of the gate and the enforcers were ready in their own set of vehicles and started to follow the convoy.

They quickly raced to the destination the Roma convoy and the enforcers one. They slowed down as they reached the private airfield and almost came to a halt once they reached the security gate. The airfield had their own security, all human. Since the airfield itself was run by them.

Each vehicle slowly passed through the checkpoint. And as the last Roma vehicle passed the barrier the enforcer vehicle stopped at the checkpoint. The guard approached the window and the driver responded "We are with them" he said pointing to the taillights of the moving Roma convoy.

"Can I see the airport pass sir?" the guard politely asked.

The driver turned in question to the guy sitting shotgun, none other than David himself.

"Not sure, they must have it can you check with them?" David asked.

"Sir each person and vehicle need their own pass to proceed" the guard added politely.

"Yes, I am sure. But we don't have them! We just joined recently, can you check with our convoy up ahead, I am sure they should have them" David insisted.

The guard looked at them suspiciously but eventually said "Sure sir I will check" The guard moved back bout the barrier remained closed with spikes on the road deployed and a few guard out back had their hands on their guns.

David gritted his teeth. All humans nothing he could do here. This place was wired with enough cameras. That bastard Sebastian was responsible for this he was sure.

They waited for was almost twenty minutes and David yelled out of the window for a couple of times on what the holdup was and all he received was polite but vague response that they were working on it.

Finally the guard returned holding a wireless set and extended it to David.

"What is this?" David demanded.

"A Mr. Sebastian wants to talk to Mr. David" He informed.

David grabbed the wireless and barked in to it "Sebastian, what is this? How do we get in?"

The wireless set crackled and Sebastian's voice came over "Sorry David, short notice, could not get the paperwork done. We are flying back to US now...so see you there I guess?" he said and with that he disconnected.

"Wait!...hold! Sebastian, this is not what was discussed!" he hissed in to the set but it was no use, there was no response. David sat there for a minute like a stupid. What could he do? The human security here was too tight and he could not resort to adventurism in a place like this. He handed the set back to the guard and informed the driver.

"Drive us back to base"

Sebastian chuckled to himself as he buckled himself in for the flight.

"Something amusing?" Roma asked

"I wish someone could take a picture of David's face" he said.

"Should we antagonize him?" she asked "He is the head of enforcers after all" she said.

"Technically you are their boss...so I can afford to have some fun, I am sure I will see his face in a day at Nick's pack. I will even apologies if you want me to." He pouted.

She just shook her head and picked up the phone mounted on the frame next to her.

"Captain! Whenever you are ready!" she told him. The flight would not take off unless she ordered it to. One of the perks of being a queen and owning your own plane.

As the flight took off and just settled in to a flight path, Roma was just about to get up and head to her cabin to lie down when the phone next to Sebastian rang.

"Yes?" He said and Roma looked at him wondering who it was.

Sebastian listened and said "Sure put him on."

While waiting to be connected Sebastian informed Roma "one of our guys from the mission on Lockbourne's granddaughter has been trying to reach us." He told.

Roma felt a sense of unease.

Finally Sebastian was connected.

"Yes, Sebastian here" he said in to the phone.

He listened to the other side as Roma fidgeted in her seat in nervousness.

"What?!?!!?" Sebastian asked so incuriously that Roma took in a deep breath.

"Are you serious!??" Sebastian demanded and listened to the flurry of response.

Sebastian's mouth gaped open in shock

And the sickening feeling in Roma's stomach grew.

"Ok, thank you!" Sebastian responded like a zombie and hung up and looked at Roma who was looking back at him nervously.

"Alex found his mate" He told still shocked.

"What!?" Roma gushed "That's fantastic....it's..."

He cut her off, still absorbing the information he heard over the phone.

"It's Serena Lockbourne."

They simply couldn't just catch a fucking break.
