《Alaska: Queen of the Vampires》Chapter 30: Talk Some Sense to Me

Hah.

I'd refused to watch any horror movies because I was too scared of them but now it turns out that I may actually be possessed by a dead girl. The fact that she was my friend's mate didn't help at all. I didn't know a thing about possession.

I was too scared to take an afternoon nap or even look in the mirror. I didn't want to be alone with myself in fear that she'd somehow come out again. So I decided to go to our local library and find out as much as I can. The entire way, I was trying to find a silver lining to my situation. Or even anything good.

At least she was a pretty spirit, right?

"Hi, Mrs. Jones," I said with a smile. Mrs. Jones had been managing this library from before I was born. It belonged to her family I suppose. The last time I'd been in the library was when Noah told me that he was in love with me.

It was the last time I saw him at all.

"Ally, dear, it's so good to see you again!" She gushed while pulling my cheeks. She asked me what book I was looking for which made me flush with embarrassment. How do I just tell her about it?

"I'm uh looking for something on possession of human bodies," I mumbled softly, hoping not to be heard by others. People would have a lot to say indeed.

"Oh!" Mrs Jones laughed. "That seems to be quite a hot topic lately." I frowned and looked around. There was no one. "What do you mean?" I asked sceptically.

Did someone know about me? Were they after the same thing that I was? Mrs. Jones apparently didn't hear me since she made her merry way back to her desk and continued to watch her daily soaps without a care in the world.

I made my way to the section that Mrs. Jones had pointed to and began looking for something. There were at least a 100 books and they all either looked deadly or boring. My eyes finally landed on a book with a red velvet cover with golden writings on them.

',' it read.

As I reached for it, someone reached for the book next to mine. It was the same copy as the book I'd chosen. I looked at the owner of that hand. It was a woman who looked to be just a few years olden than me, with strawberry blond hair tied up in a high ponytail and a pendant with the initial M. She smiled at me.

"Seems like we have a lot in common," I said with a laugh.

"More than you know," she said and left.

I sat at the table and opened the book only to close it back again. I slammed it shut, to be honest. It was like seeing a ghost. It was his handwriting. Noah's.

Why was Noah reading about possession?

I opened it again and began reading. At first it was just the basics. The procedure of possession and so on. Later on, under the title of Coexistence, I noticed little notes that Noah wrote next to the passages. He had underlined a few words and added some of his questions or remarks.

As I began to read more and more, soaking in as much as I could, there was one thing that struck me. Almost every page had the same question written on them.

I looked at that date and immediately my heart began to race. I saw flashbacks. My mom and dad fighting in front of me, me feeling like I was about to explode, taking dad's car keys and rushing out of the house, speeding up on the roads even though I'd never be trained or taught to drive, a deer running into my path all of a sudden and then the car crash.

But for some reason, I didn't.

For some reason, I shivered as I thought I was being watched in the library. I looked around but there was no one barring Mrs.Jones. It was almost 9pm. I needed to be home but I also needed to find out what happened that day. What did Noah know?

And why did all his questions refer to a she?

I speed dialled Avian as I headed home in my car. My hands were clammy after recalling that night. The car crash. This was the same car I was driving that night. "Ally?" Avian's voice came through my phone. His familiar tone seemed to be more than enough to calm my nerves and normalise my breathing.

"Can you do me a favour?"

"Sure; what's going on?"

"I can't tell you now," I sighed, "I need you go to the town hospital and ask for my hospital reports dated 7th of March, 2015. Can you do that for me? It's urgent." He didn't say anything for a while.

My heart began to sink as I thought he'd say he wouldn't be able to help me out anymore. I couldn't go to Arian since we had nothing left to keep us going and I surely couldn't ask Adrian for help to get his mate out of my body.

"I'll let you know when I get it. Is this information confidential?" He asked. "Always is," I said. I'd head home and search for my reports or anything I could find that went back to that date. My parents didn't tell me much after the accident and I had a gut feeling they wouldn't tell me now either.

No one was at home when I pulled into the parking space.

After entering the house, I quietly tiptoed to my dad's office and began to look for files. Anything that could be a link to that particular date. I opened the drawer on his desk and found a liquor bottle with two glasses. The next had his bank information which I knew because mom had told me even though he always kept it locked.

I was about to open the next drawer when my phone buzzed.

: There are no records of yours pertaining to that date because you were never admitted.

: How is that possible? Someone has to know something!

: There is a lady nurse who was in the ambulance with you at that time but she insists on only talking to you. She seems a little cuckoo so I'm not sure it's a good idea.

: Video call. Now.

Avian video called me as soon as I sent that message. I accepted the call and my eyes met those of a plump woman who looked to be in her mid 50s. She gasped when she saw me.

Jeez, am I that heinous to look at?

"It really is you!" She whispered.

"She can't hear you if you whisper," Avian told her.

She used her free hand to smack him. "Don't teach me how to use a smartphone, Red!" I sighed and took in a deep breath. "Ma'am," I politely urged, "This is really important. Can you tell me what happened the night of 7th March, 2017?"

"Of course I can, honey," she smiled, "We were told to go to your location near the mountain top since there had been an accident. When we reached, you barely had a pulse and your face was really ruined. Your father reached at the same time and he sat along with me in the ambulance while my partner drove."

"Wait." I frowned. "Your partner? Where is he?"

"Hush, sweetheart. Do you want to hear this or not?" She asked impatiently. I apologised and cajoled her to continue. After a few moments, she continued. "While we were driving, your heart stopped. I pronounced you dead at nearly 11 o'clock. Your father was devastated but he said nothing. He picked up a call and that was it."

"So I did die!" I exclaimed victoriously. Something in the back of my mind told me it wasn't something to be proud of.

"Do you know whom he was speaking to?" Avian asked urgently. He didn't like this either.

"Red, I ain't a hot young mama anymore. I don't recall my middle name so I ain't gonna recall those details either."

He clenched his jaw. "Then why do you remember this accident that happened two years ago if it was just your normal routine?"

"Because it wasn't normal. A while after pretty girl here died, the ambulance stopped all of a sudden. I was in the back so I assumed Rick had stopped because of a red traffic signal. Minutes passed but the van didn't move. I got out of there to check on Rick but he wasn't there."

"Where was he? Did he die?" Avian asked.

"Red, you like those pesky whites that keep yapping during movies," she snapped at him. Avian immediately shut up. I gave him an apologetic look.

"I saw a stone in the middle of the road so I picked it up and put it aside. I waited for Rick for another minute but there was no sign of him. It was late and your father didn't need more to worry about so I went back to tell him that I'd be driving only to find your heart beating once again and your pulse had been stabilised."

"I came back to life," I said.

"That's when I started believing in sweet Jesus," she said and began murmuring a hymn. It seemed to agitate Avian which made me chuckle.

"What makes you think it was God?" He asked.

"Because only God can resurrect someone that was so catastrophically dead."

Something tells me that it wasn't God that had done me a favour.

Just a very powerful supernatural.
