《Alaska: Queen of the Vampires》Chapter 5: Code Red

Alaska locked herself in her bedroom the entire week, only leaving her bed to eat or have a bath. Clarence and Teresa, her parents, ignored him, blaming it on her hormones. The young Ivanov would lie in bed all day and all night, thinking about the future.
She always dreamt for her kid and Noah's kid falling in love. She never thought about Noah falling in love with her. The change of plans took her by surprise. Noah was more than what any girl could ever ask for. Ally could share whatever she wanted with him. Her life didn't seem so pathetic to her as long as she had him to listen to her. He was the pillar that always supported her. He was polite, funny and quirky. Just perfect.
She couldn't imagine her life without him. She felt restless and desperately wanted to cry. He was the kind of person that would sacrifice his own happiness just to see a smile on her face. She wanted him in her life. She needed him in her life. He was all she had.
"I'm going to win him back."
She showered and then changed into a royal blue pleaded maxi skirt with a white crop top and braided her hair neatly. She never used makeup. Noah loved when she braided her hair. It makes you look like a princess! He would say. Looking at her slim figure in the mirror, she drifted off into the past. She saw her 15 year old plump image staring back at her.
She remembered how Noah had always supported her and cheered her up whenever she had been made fun of for being overweight. Her father was too ashamed of taking his daughter out with him. Her mother's dreams of dressing her daughter up like a princess were shattered because none of the pretty clothes fitted the young Alaska. She'd always feel good about herself whenever she spent time with Noah.
"I'm going to see Noah," she told her mother and left the house.
The walk to her best friend's house was tiring. Although, he lived just 20 minutes away, she kept on repeating what she would say to him. Would she hug him? Maybe a kiss on the cheek would suffice. She was going to tell her best friend how much she loved him. She wouldn't let go of him.
On the way, she passed by the Blackwater forest. She thought of Arian and she smiled remembering their little incident on his bed. Do I like him? Then her mind flashed back to Arthur; Arian's victim. He killed him brutally. He forced her into the lake and made her drown. She didn't know what to think.

She knocked on Noah's door which immediately got pushed open under the weight of her fist. The door creaked open and allowed Alaska to enter. She walked in careful, she heard a song playing from a distance.
If I had to live my life without you near me
The days would all be empty
And the nights would seem so long
She felt like a heroine in a horror movie. Every step that she took, her heart thumped loudly against her chest, threatening to leap out of her mouth. Dread consumed the young Ivanov. "Noah?" She called out shakily. No reply. Her mind told her to run out but her heart begged her to stay.
With you I see forever oh so clearly
I might have been in love before
But it never felt this strong
Something felt off.
She looked around. Unlike her lavish mansion, Noah's house was rather simple. The wooden furniture of his house was properly placed against the white stained walls. The simple cottage had the ground floor on which Noah had his room along with a small library or study room, as he called it. The first floor had Naomi's room and a small storage room.
My dreams are young and we both know
To take us to where we want to go
Hold me now, touch me now
I don't want to live without you
The melody played from Noah's room.
As beautiful as the song was, it just kept on adding to her fear. The hallway was quiet. Everything was spick and span, just how Noah liked it. He was diagnosed with OCD (by doctor Alaska Ivanov, as she liked to call herself). She was, of course, no doctor. Ally pushed to door open.
Nothing.
"Nada," she murmured.
Nothing's gonna change my love for you
You ought to know by now how much I love you
His room was sober and simple just like its owner. Baby blue walls, one cupboard and a wooden bed against the wall. There was a picture near his bed. One of Noah and Alaska at the halloween town fair dressed as Ron and Hermoine of Harry Potter. She smiled as she pushed his bathroom door open. Still nothing. Her smile disappeared as she walked over to his dressing table.
One thing you can be sure of
I'll never ask for more than your love...
She screamed.

The police swarmed in and out of the house. Generally, 24 hours were needed but since the mayor himself had put in a request for an immediate investigation, the best detective was appointed to lead the case. Alaska sat outside her best friend's room, crying bitterly while holding the photo frame to her chest.

I shouldn't have rejected him and left...
Maybe he would have been here if I hadn't.
He was the only one that loved me.
I've lost him.
She had no one to blame but herself. If she hadn't rejected him, maybe he would have been safe. If she hadn't gone with Arian, he'd still be alive. "I'm sorry. Please come back to me," she whispered. No one was able to meet her bloodshot eyes. She was in a very fragile state, according to them. Maybe even drifting into madness.
Maybe she was just not worth it. Her parents never treated her like their daughter. No one ever wanted to be Alaska's friend. She was just an option for everyone else. Maybe Noah had started hating her too.
Who wouldn't?
He was the only one that she could trust. Even after their countless fights, they were still there for each other at the end of the day. There wouldn't be any one to make fun of her or tease her about not knowing the latest news. She'd be on her own from now. "Maybe that's good. I don't deserve anyone," she mumbled.
"What's going on here!"
Alaska couldn't even look at Naomi, her Noah's sister. The tomboyish girl was startled to see so many people inside the house. "Did my brother murder someone or something?" She asked; puzzled. She almost believed her words. After all, who would want to think of the worst possibility? As an officer filled her in with the details, she fell to the floor.
Not a tear in her eye.
She was strong, that girl.
"Miss Ivanov, I'm detective Shay Lockwood. Can you tell me why you came to meet Mister Waters?" The detective asked. She had honey brown hair and hazel eyes that shone with sympathy for the young girl. She herself was not older than 25, yet she was the best the department had to offer. Alaska looked at her and sniffed.
"He's my best friend. We had a sort of a d-disagreement the last time we met; last week," she sniffed, wiping away her tears with the tissue she had been offered. "And do you have anyone in mind who would have a motive?" Lockwood asked. The detective saw a flicker in her eyes but she shook her head. She was lying, but the detective pretended to be convinced.
Ice did it. He'll kill you too. Stay away! She wanted to say.
Lockwood thanked her and then moved on to the sister, Naomi, who nonchalantly told the detective about how Noah had declared his love for his friend. "He was depressed, like watching-romantic-tragedies-and-eating-ice cream depressed. I last saw him this morning. Before I went to the market," she mumbled.
"A witness saw a tall man dressed in black enter the house through the main door a few hours ago. We're taking the witness into protective custody, boss," a male officer told the detective in a soft voice. Anyone could tell that the males did not like working for a female. They felt low.
Most of the men of Blackwater were prejudiced. The detective walked young Miss Ivanov home, clueless about what the girl was planning to do. She grabbed a knife and a few other essentials and slammed the door as she ran into the Blackwater forest.
"Revenge. Take revenge," she told herself repeatedly.
The forest, just like all other afternoons, was quiet and peaceful. A perfect environment to commit an unforgivable crime. She knew where to find him. He had taken Noah. The head would have to be separated from the body. And she very well knew where he would carry out the task.
The lake.
She heard screaming which made her run towards the source of the noise immediately. She didn't know what dangers lied ahead of her but she dauntlessly followed the path. Her heart thumped against her chest as tears filled her eyes. He was wearing black. A woman lay in his arms, eyes petrified as they could be. She made eye contact with Alaska and mouthed one word.
"Run."
But she couldn't.
Ice had his fangs sunk deep inside his victim's neck from which blood oozed out and stained her white shirt. The life was leaving her eyes as his claws pierced the skin of her waist, holding her in place. He showed no mercy towards the dying woman. The sickening sound of his tongue slurping the blood filled her ears. It felt like dejà vu when the knife fell from her hand.
"Vampire," she whispered.
He turned around and smirked.
