《Nightwalker》Chapter Twenty-One

I attached my sword to my belt and felt ready. I sighed softly at the thought of going out there and seeing something even worse than how I had found Anon and cringed. I also hopes I don't have to kill too many humans, but knew I would because my Mistress says to.

Sylvia, who watched me change without a sound or movement, grabbed me around my left forearm as I was walking pass her towards the door. I stopped moving and looked down at where she was touching me. It was warm and I felt my stomach clench slightly but I knew I could keep the hunger away for another day.

"Yes?" I asked her raising my eyes to hers.

She swallowed and I could tell that she was nervous. "Please... please try and not kill anyone." Her voice was soft but because of my ethereal senses it was like she was using her normal volume.

I twisted my arm slowly and pulled out of her hold. I looked away from her and at the door but didn't move for another heartbeat. "We'll see what happens." I replied evenly and walked out of the room and quickly made my way to where Anon and the others were waiting. Anon was now back in his human form and stood at the same giant height's as the other men. It miffed me a bit, why are they so damn tall?

Anon chuckled as he slung an arm over my shoulders. "There there, you'll get bigger one day. Oh wait... you don't grow up any more do you?" I frowned slightly. I'm pretty sure I didn't use our link to say anything to him.

In reply though, I punched him in the stomach making him double over and groan from the sudden loss of breath. "I'm ready when you guys are." I stated to Galen as Lucas and Hawk laughed from beside him while he just gives me a blank look.

That was mean... Anon grumbled.

Be quiet or I'll tell them about your little excitement with other males in your bed and how much you like being dominated. I threatened him as I followed behind Galen when we started running off towards wherever we're needed to go.

You wouldn't! I chuckled at how scandalised he sounded.

Then keep the short jokes to yourself. I replied while expanding my senses and feeling the mana run through me like I was nothing. I'm not even that short! Just shorter than these males.

Fine! Fine! He grumbled and I could just see him pouting like the man-child he is.

We stopped in a clearing and Galen turned to us. "We've had word from scouts around our territory that some Hunters have captured a convent of Witches, which means there are going to be a large number of Hunters as well as a few powerful artefacts." He started with a serious tone that totally killed any amusement I was feeling at that moment. "Much like when we saved Anon. Lucas and Hawk will attack and attract their attention while Anon and I will take them from behind. Girl, you're to prioritise getting the Witches out of their chains that stops their use of mana."

"Eh? There are chains that can stop mana?" I asked not believing it was possible. Everything has mana inside it, how can something with mana, stop mana?

"Yes, so they're impossible to break by using a spell of any kind." Galen confirmed.

"But this is Alpha we're talking about. She can control mana without needing a spell." Anon stated both proud and impressed.

I shook my head at him and sighed. "Still might not work you know." I told him seriously.

"Gah! No faith in your own powers." Anon waved my words away.

"It doesn't matter, just get those chains off those women. Get to the older women first, they will have more experience and control over their spells better than the younger ones." Galen started again still addressing me.

"Yes sir." I agreed.

"Then let's go." He stated and we started off again. Somewhere along the way Hawk and Lucas went off and then Anon and Galen went another way. I kept silent and hidden, keeping to the underbrush as I felt a large number of mana sources in a large clearing. I jumped up into a tree and looked over the clearing. I bit off an angered growl at the sight of the women and girls chained up and huddling together in nothing but rags in the middle of the large clearing.

A large number of men were around them jeering and make loud and obnoxious jokes about them that made me want to hurt them all. I was also shocked by the sight of even a few female Hunters around the edge of the clearing that were nonchalant to the men near the barely dressed and clearly freezing Witches.

A cry of alarm went up on the other side of the clearing at the same time as a large tree came tumbling down in the same direction. Lucas and Hawk have started their assault. As much as I wanted to go down and get into the fray, I waited. The men around the women picked up their weapons and headed to where Lucas and Hawk was. But some still guarded the Witches but were facing in that direction. Anon in wolf form came streaking out of the trees and launched himself on one of the unsuspecting female Hunters that came to guard the Witches.

Galen soon joined in and was taking on any of the Hunters that didn't attack Anon or the other guys. I watched in tense silence until I saw a sufficient gap in the guards around the Witches. I strained my muscles and gathered power in my legs. With a single leap I was landing on the ground with the grace of a cat beside an older Witch that was hugging a young girl. Black chains kept their wrists together and I saw red spell writing flicker with mana along the thick metal.

The older Witch gave out a gasp and looked at me with wide eyes. I smiled at her showing off my fangs. "Shh, I'm here to get those things off of you. Who's the most powerful among you all?" I told her quickly bending down beside her.

"A-Ashwini." The woman stuttered and pointed to a dusky skinned beauty that only had bare strips of cloth around her sufficient breasts and between her legs. I've never seen such a skin tone before but I didn't waste time gawking at it. She was younger than I was expecting but if she was strongest. I have no right to judge.

I looked around to see that none of the Hunters have noticed me yet, though most of the Witches have. Staying low among the huddling Witches I made my way towards the woman named Ashwini. Rich brown eyes met my own glowing violet. They widened a bit at the sight of me before they furrowed and a dangerous glint appeared in them.

"Relax, I'm with them." I pointed my thumb towards Lucas and Hawk who were taking out Hunter after Hunter. There were a lot more than I was expecting. "Do you know any way to take these off?" I asked her.

She shook her head making her disarrayed long black hair cover one shoulder. "It's impossible without the unlocking spell." She answered.

I growled softly as I touched the chains. The mana inside me immediately shrunk away making my hands feel like lumps of useless flesh. But I did feel the slightest amount of mana inside the chains.

"Who has the spell?" I asked her.

"The leader. Her name's Adelle and she carries around a whip." Ashwini answered.

I frowned at her because I don't remember seeing a woman with a whip. "But there's no one here with a whip." I told her.

"Ah! Watch out!" Ashwini shouted but it was too late something snaked its way around my throat. Pain ringed my neck as I was yanked backwards over the heads of Witches. Blood slid down my throat and stained my shirt collar as I choked. I couldn't breathe!

My hands went to my neck and I felt smooth leather tightly coiled around it. my blood was spiling out of a deep gash on the side of my neck made by something metal on the tip of the whip. I quickly rolled and managed to uncoil the whip but it quickly whipped up once it was loose hitting my cleanly in the cheek sending me rolling across the ground. My body stung with pain but I felt anger more than anything. I jumped up growling and faced my attacker.

I was shocked by the tall red head, pale skinned, woman in front of me. She was stunning, yes, but if she wasn't smirking the way she was I think I would have considered letting her live. She held the thick handle of the whip in her right hand, flicking it back and forth making the whip writhe on the ground like a snake.

"Well well aren't you a pretty one?" The woman, I assume was Adelle, snickered in one hell of an annoying voice as she flicked her whip to making a loud cracking sound. I bared my fangs at her and felt the mana around me ready to use it whenever I want. "Tut tut, you shouldn't make such an unsightly face. It's unbecoming of a beauty like you."

"Thank's for the compliment, but seriously, I don't have time for you." I told her seriously, which made her smirk drop to an annoyed frown. In a flash I had two hand size balls of fire around my hands and threw them at the red headed Hunter.

Her whip flashed out and cut through the fireballs with ease. Annoyed I threw two more at the same time as making the mana around her become heavy. Surprise showed on her face and I watched as the balls of fire blew up in her face sending her backwards. With her distracted I ran back to Ashwini and the other Witches who were watching me with shock.

"How did you do that without chanting a spell?" Ashwini demanded as I tried to physically pull her chains apart. I used the mana around me and made it go into my hands to increase my strength. I gritted my teeth together as I tried to break the thick metal.

"Come on!" I growled even as my feet cracked the ground from the force and amount of mana I was focusing inside me. I cried out as I was thrown to the side by a hit right to my ribs. The metal claw on the tip of Adelle's whip tore through my vest, shirt and skin with painful ease. I hit the ground but quickly stood up again to face a dishevelled, but yet unharmed, Adelle. She looked pissed.

"Come on, just let me free her and then we can fight." I huffed annoyed by the pain and the situation.

"Sorry darling, but I can't give you that luxury." Adelle drawled trying to sound as bright as before but was failing, terribly.

I dodged to the side as her whip came out of nowhere. I've never faced a whip in a fight before and it was seriously becoming annoying. I was dodging the strikes as fast as I could but somehow every time I get on my feet it's in front of me again making me have to launch to the ground to dodge it. I growled and pulled out my sword finally deciding to use it. I rolled my wrists and decided it was time to stop dodging.

I froze for a second and allowed the whip to appear in front of me and faster than I've moved during the fight I hit the tip away with the flat of my sword and headed straight towards the red head aiming for her neck. I roared as pain flared up my side in the same spot on my ribs as before. Being hit away again I came to a panting stop on my hands and knees facing a now laughing Adelle.

"You're a freakin amateur!" She laughed loudly.

"Yeah, an amateur that's still not dead yet." I spat back and that shut her up quickly, which made me smirk.

Need some help Alpha? Anon suddenly spoke up appearing beside me covered in specks of blood, looking relatively unharmed.

Yeah, I'm not experienced enough to fight her on my own. I told him seriously.

"What's this? You've got a mutt on your side now? Are you too weak to fight me on your own?" The annoying red head laughed as she flicked her whip making it crack in the air.

This bitch is annoying.

You're telling me? I rolled my eyes and jumped to the side dodging the sudden attack.

I sat up on my knees and watch in surprised admiration of how fast and easily Anon was dodging the red heads whip. He snapped his dangerous jaws at the whip and even managed to catch it. Taking the chance of Adelle's sudden pause I sprinted forward with my sword ready to take her head off her shoulders and do us all a favour.

Her bland hazel eyes widened as I appeared in front of her but it seems she has a few tricks up her sleeve because I was suddenly hit my a wall of mana and sent flying backwards. I flipped and landed on my feet highly confused. How is a human able to use mana?

It's the whip. It's an artefact. Artefacts have the ability to allow the wielder access to use mana. Anon explained as he jumped back to my side letting go of the whip.

No wonder why my fireballs did no damage to her besides from sending her flying. Then we need to get her to let go of the whip.

Easier said than done. It seems like she has an iron grip on that thing. Anon snorted.

Try and grab it again and hold your ground. She might have a shield but she was still flung back when my fireballs hit it.

Got it. Let's go. Anon took off towards Adelle and she quickly pushed him back with her whip keeping him at a distance.

"Is this all you got? You're both pathetic amateurs!" Adelle shouted seeming to think that she has the upper hand. "You can't get pass my whip nor my shield! So give up!"

"How about you shut up?" I snapped back sick of her damn voice. Running at her I cloaked my sword in flames just as Anon managed to grab the tip of the whip again.

I roared as I swung my flamed sword down onto her shield. A crackling sounded through the air as my sword connected with her shield before the two highly concentrated mana gave way to an explosion that pushed us away. Pain wracked my body as I was flung away and landed on the ground a ways away from a small crater now in the ground. I felt that a part of my face, my hands and the exposed skin of my ribs were burnt from the flames of the explosion. I groaned in pain and disorientation.

"Alpha! Alpha are you alright?" Anon's voice cut through the ringing of my ears and my vision came back. He was naked and holding me but I didn't feel as uncomfortable as I did the first time seeing and being around him while he was naked.

"It hurts." I couldn't help but moan feeling my broken rips and burned skin.

"Here, drink from me." Anon offered me his wrist but I weakly pushed him away, not wanting to drain him of blood when there could still be enemies around. "Don't fight me Alpha, just do it."

I was too weak to push him away when he was holding strong so I gave in. I sunk my fangs into his wrist and instead of pleasure that I usually give Sylvia, I just made my bite as unpainful as possible. In a short amount of time my ears stopped ringing and my mind was back. I felt my bones and skin heal along with the bruises and anything else that was damaged with being thrown around and so close to an explosion. I pulled away from Anon's wrist and he helped me sit up.

I ran my tongue over my fangs and was amazed by how good he tasted. I could basically taste the wolf in the blood and it made my own fizzle with animalistic energy. "Damn that's potent." I grumbled feeling a little better. I still felt like I was in an explosion since I didn't take all that much blood, but I knew I could stand on my own thanks to what I had taken from him.

"Thank you." Anon replied cheerily making me roll my eyes as I stood up. He was holding the whip but there was no Adelle in sight. Bodies littered the clearing and I found Galen, Lucas and Hawk looking relatively unharmed. I breathed out a sigh of relief before groaning.

"Damn it, we didn't get the spell." I sighed in annoyance.

"Then I guess we have to figure out how to break them." Anon stated as we headed to the now standing and sort of celebrating Witches, they can't do much still chained.

"Sorry, she got away." I apologised to Ashwini when I got to her.

The dark skinned woman shook her head and smiled. "It's fine, at least we're with friends now instead of enemies."

"Mmm." I agreed though I was looking closely at the chains around her wrists. I touched them again and frowned at the sensation of the mana running away from that area but I kept my fingers to the metal. I could feel mana inside it and wondered. With my hands basically empty... I'll try it. "Hope this works." I murmured as I concentrated on the mana inside the metal and tried to pull it into the emptiness of my hands.

Slowly but surely it started to work. I closed my eyes and pictured the metal and the mana flowing out of it and into my hands and then joining the rest of the mana. A collective gasp echoed around me and I opened my eyes as I seeped the last of the mana out of the chains. I watched in amazement as they crumbled to dust.

"Well then... at least it works." I commented making the girl I stood in front of laugh heartily as she rolled her wrist.

"How did you do that?" She asked amazement now rubbing her wrists.

"I pulled out the mana I could feel inside the chains." I shrugged. "They might stop one from using mana, but they're still chains and should have some amount of mana inside them that makes it possible to manipulate."

"You can control pure mana without the need of spells?" Ashwini asked in amazement.

I nodded my head. "Yes. Now, let's get these chains off these people."

One after another until the sun rose and I was literally mind numb from so much concentrating I finally released the last Witch from her chains. The Witches cheered and I could just barely manage a smile with them.

"Woah there! I've got you, Alpha." Anon mumbled as I felt my legs give way and I fell back into his arms.

"I'm so tired." I mumbled leaning my head back against his shoulder.

"Rest, you've earned it." Galen spoke from beside us.

I numbly nodded and smiled one last time at a grinning Ashwini before I passed out.
