《Nightwalker》Chapter Nineteen

I sighed and moved to sit against the ledge of the window after I opened it. I looked up at the full moon feeling sad for the loss of a good friend. I closed my eyes feeling surprisingly exhausted and I felt the mana buzz and murmur softly around me but it wasn't annoying. It actually helped me to relax and the hurt I was feeling was slowly fading. It's not like I'll never see Sylvia again.

A knock echoed off the door and I perked up thinking it was Sylvia but that was shut down when I didn't recognise the mana behind the door. I sighed softly before walking to the door and opened it to find Anon looking much better than he was before, and thankfully had clothes on.

His pale blue eyes looked down at me and I could see the wolf in his eyes. Were they permanently like that?

I smiled up at him after I finished seeing that he was okay. "You're looking better. How was your rest?"

Anon narrowed his eyes at me and I wondered what he was looking at. He lifted a hand and I watched him carefully as he placed soft fingers to my scar. "You did not have this before." He stated factually.

"I did not." I agreed with a soft smile though I felt slightly uncomfortable with his fingers still caressing my scar. "It appeared this morning when I was fighting against the pull of the full moon."

I breathed out thankfully when Anon dropped his hand away from my neck. "Ah yes, it would be your first full moon yes?" He asked stepping a bit away from me putting distance between us that I appreciated.

"It wouldn't have been, but I was unconscious during it last time." I told him when I calculated the time of when I was changed and then when I was passed out for a near month. "So yes, this is my first full moon."

"May I come in?" Anon then asked as he looked over me and into my room.

I thought about it. I wasn't highly comfortable with the idea of having a man in my bedroom but if my Mistress was correct in saying that Anon felt indebted to me, then I doubt he'll do anything and even if he did I knew I could hold my own.

"Sure." I finally said and let him in.

I watched as he looked around the room and I saw his nose twitch. I walked to the still open window and sat on the ledge again but didn't look up at the moon keeping my eyes on Anon. "So, you didn't answer me, how are you feeling?" I asked him once his eyes were back on me.

Anon smiled softly and nodded his head. "I'm much better after resting for so long. Your servant-friend got me food as well, which helped."

"Good. So what are you going to do now that you're better?"

Anon looked at me seriously and I felt something shift between us. "I want to stay here, you saved my life not once but twice and I know that if that arrow had hit your heart you would have died. I owe you a great debt and I wish to stay so that I can repay you." I watched in shock as Anon went down on one knee and bowed his head. "I wish for you to become my Alpha. I can feel your power and you have a good heart. I know I will be satisfied with you being my leader."

"Woah! Hold on! Wait a second!" I cried out in shock quickly standing up and feeling crazily awkward with the situation. "Can you stand up please... I have no idea what you're talking about. Yeah I know you shifters are loyal and all, but I don't want you to serve me just because I saved your life. I don't know what an Alpha even is or what they do and I'm not even a shifter! How can I be an Alpha when I'm not even of the same species?"

"Species or race does not matter." Anon replied seriously after standing up. "You have proven to me that you have the heart of an Alpha and my wolf agrees with me in that even if I was not indebted to you, I would still feel the pull of wanting you to be my Alpha."

I'm pretty sure I was gapping at him like a fish, but I was in shock! Can I say that this feels slightly like déjá vu but that I would be in Anon's position and my Mistress would be in mine?

I shook my head. "I can't be your Alpha, why would you want to serve me when I'm already serving another and that she owns my life?"

Anon gave a silent snarl. "I know this but that does not matter to me or my wolf."

I rubbed my face exasperatedly. "I don't have the right to make that decision. If you want to stay fine but you're going to have to ask for my Mistress's permission."

"Even if she says no, I will not leave until my debt is paid and you still do not wish to become my Alpha." Anon declared seriously and I knew that was all I was going to get from him.

"Fine, well go to breakfast tomorrow and you can ask her there." I waved my hand defeatedly. I was tired and my body felt weighed down from exhaustion.

"I will leave you then and will see you in the morning." Anon said obviously seeing how tired I was.

"Right, okay." I agreed and walked him to the door.

"Good night..." Anon frowned. "I don't know your name."

I sighed just wanting to sleep. "I don't have one, just call me whatever."

"Alright, then have a good night Alpha." Anon smirked at me.

"Anything but that!" I called after him when he quickly left and all I heard was a chuckle. "God damn it." I grumbled closing the door before flopping down onto my empty bed.

I sighed sadly as I felt that it was cold and lonely, no Sylvia to stay warm with and keep me company. I felt like I was back on the streets, cold and alone, the only difference is I'm on a highly comfortable bed and no drunken men had abused me.

My chest hurt at the loss so I went on my side and curled up on top of the covers. That's how I fell asleep with the buzz of mana around me.

I woke up on my own to a cool breeze coming through my open window and making my body shiver. I was cold and I was alone... I hate being alone.

I stood up and went into the en-suit to bathe not feeling up to going to the communal servant bath and make Sylvia wash me. I got dressed and headed to the door just as a knock echoed off of it. I opened it to find both Anon and Sylvia giving narrowed eyes at each other. I found the sight amusing and could barely supress a snicker.

"Good morning Sylvia, Anon." I greeted the two who quickly looked at me when I spoke.

"Good morning my lady." Sylvia replied with a soft almost guilty smile.

"Good morning Alpha." Anon said and I glared at him.

"Don't call me that." I told him seriously.

"Then what do you want me to call you?" He asked back.

"I don't know but anything other than that." I demanded.

He shrugged. "I'm sorry, Alpha, but it's all I can think of at the moment."

"Then don't call me anything." I snapped and pushed passed them to head to breakfast. I sighed softly and calmed myself down before turning to the two people who wanted to please me for some reason. "Fine, call me whatever you want but that doesn't mean I'm becoming your Alpha."

"I understand." Anon smirked lightly making me roll my eyes and start to walk towards the dining room again with the two people who seem to want to serve me following behind.

I walked into the dining room to find that I was the first there besides from the servants moving around cleaning and setting the table. I opened all the windows with a nonchalant thought and stood beside the closest one.

"So it's true." Anon spoke up making me give him a questioning look. He waved his hands motioning the windows. "That you can control mana without needing to say a word. You can control pure mana."

I nodded my head in affirmation. "Yes, I don't know why I can but I just let it do as it pleases and it treats me like I'm just like it. Which I suppose we all are, but people like to trap and control it rather than flow with it."

Anon looked thoughtful as he slowly nodded his head. "I can see how we trap it, but we shifters have to. How beasts are beings of mana and that allows us to change into them. If we let them free they'll run rampant. They might be made of mana but they are also wild and very dangerous animals that would take over the more humanised mind of our being."

I nodded my head in understanding as I remembered the wild look in his eyes when he was in his wolf form. "That would be dangerous."

"Exactly." Anon agreed.

"So what types of shifters are there?" I questioned curious about this species that I've never heard or seen before.

"Well there's basically a pack full of nearly every type of animal out there. Packs are usually made up of one singular animal, such as my pervious pack was full of wolf-shifters, but I've heard of a pack that had all types of big cat's within their pack." Anon explained as he stood beside me near the window while Sylvia stood as far as she could away from me. I tried to ignore that while I listened to Anon intently.

"What's a big cat?" I asked in confusion. I know what a cat is, I've seen them run around while I was on the streets. Feral things that loved to steal my food when I was paying enough attention. Though I have seen good-natured ones here and then.

"Well... you know a normal domesticated cat?" Anon asked and I nodded confirmation. "Well as the name suggests, big cats are just bigger cats. They're almost the same size as a human and weigh twice the size. They are dangerous creatures when they're only beasts. They're even more dangerous when they are combined with a human mind."

I tried to picture a cat the size of me and twice as heavy but I just couldn't believe that such creatures exist. "Wow, I would love to see one." I murmured to myself.

"You could if you had the means to travel to the other side of the world." Anon shrugged. "They mostly reside in the more tropical and warmer countries far away from cold and stormy countries like ours."

"Oh, that's disappointing. How do you know about them if they live so far away?"

"Most packs keep in contact some way or another especially the healers of our packs. They get together once a year to discuss medicinal practices so everyone usually has an idea about the other packs around the world."

"Wow, that sounds a lot more refined than human societies." I commented making Anon chuckle in agreement. "So why did you leave your pack?" I asked curious about this man I had saved from human Hunters.

Anon frowned slightly. "I was too different. Yes we were all wolves, but my personality and desires were different from everyone else's. I felt an outcast in my own pack and no one seemed to care. So I left to search for a pack that would accept me for who and what I am."

I smiled warmly at him and placed a hand to his arm. "I'm glad you got out of there when you felt uncomfortable. Most would have stayed and dealt with it because that means they belonged somewhere even of they were different and an outcast."

Anon smiled back at me. "Thank you and so am I. I wouldn't have lasted long if I stayed there. Wolves are fiercely loyal to their packs and yes there are lone wolves but I am not one of them. I need a pack to function at my best. I need a pack to accept me for me."

"Then why are you going to hang around here when you can be out searching for that pack?" I asked him curiously. "I know that you owe me, but you can pay me back after you find your pack."

Anon shook his head. "I've found my pack, even though it only consists of one person at the moment." He smiled at me.

I frowned before realising who he was talking about. I groaned and pushed him away from me lightly. "No! You have to find someone of your own kind to be your Alpha, or better yet why don't you become your own Alpha?"

He laughed lowly while shaking his head. "I can't be an Alpha. My wolf isn't dominant enough for that role, I'm fine and strong enough to hold second in command but more than that my wolf wouldn't be able to handle. Plus, we both have decided that you'll be my Alpha."

I sighed and shook my head exasperated by this wolf. "We'll see what my Mistress says about that."

"What must I have an opinion about my pet?" A voice asked from the door making me jump in shock.

"A-about Anon, Mistress." I replied turning to her and bowed in greeting. "He wishes for me to become his Alpha."

My Mistress's eyebrows rose in obvious surprise. She looked towards Anon who had taken position behind and to the right of me. "Really? Now this is a situation I wouldn't have thought possible. Why do you want her as your Alpha?"

"Because she is everything I have been looking for to give my loyalty to. It's not just because I'm indebted to her. Her power and her heart attracts me too." Anon replied keeping a levelled gaze on my Mistress that slightly annoyed me.

He suddenly gave me a sly gaze and smirked at my Mistress. "And what if I told you that she is my Mate?"
