《Nightwalker》Chapter Fifteen

Sylvia and I walked into the bathroom to find it nearly completely empty beside a few maids gossiping in one corner of the large bath.
"Purple!" A voice exclaimed catching my attention and I found Mercy half submerged in the water red hair fanning out around her.
"Mercy. How are you?" I asked as I took off my sleepwear and slid into the warm water sitting on the bench beside Mercy.
"I'm good, but how are you? I was worried that you weren't going to wake up again like last time." Mercy looked at me with worry marring her pretty face.
I smiled at her reassuringly. "I'm alright now. I just needed a good sleep and some blood. Sylvia looked after me very well." I turned to Sylvia with a thankful smile as she slid in beside me.
She smiled back at me her discomfort from before disappearing. "It's part of my job, my lady."
"So you wouldn't have looked after me if it wasn't your job too?" I asked teasingly taking the cloth and soap from her hands making her frown at me.
"That's not what I meant!" Sylvia protested.
"I know it's not, don't worry." I told her before twirling a finger at her telling her to turn around. She did as told and I started washing her back with the soap and cloth. "What are you doing today Mercy?" I questioned the silent red head who was washing her long hair.
"Hm? Oh, most probably follow you and lady Beatrice to the garden again to watch you train. It was amazing watching you yesterday." Mercy smiled as she remembered. "Can you show me something?"
I laughed softly at her excited look as she looked at me excitedly. "Sure." I agreed as I handed Sylvia the cloth and soap when I finished washing her back, arms and shoulders. I stepped away from them slightly and thought of the spells I had read over yesterday. "I don't know many since I barely got through a quarter of the book but I'll show you something different."
"Jesholat eveth. (Freeze water)" I whispered as I gathered mana within me then seeped it out into the water where it suddenly froze over making everyone still in the bath squeal out in shock. I laughed at their reactions. "Ivvisat jesh. (Melt ice)" I ordered and the ice melted back to water. "Affazhat eveth yath. (Warm water up)" The water became warm again making everyone sigh and I continued to laugh.
"That wasn't funny Purple!" Mercy exclaimed as she splashed water at me but I continued to giggle. "That was cool thought, I have to admit."
"I'm glad you liked my trick." I smiled at her before turning to Sylvia who was scowling at me slightly. "Sorry." I apologised to her and she rolled her eyes with a slight smile telling me that she wasn't mad at me.
"Turn around let me wash you." She told me and I did as she said. I listened quietly to Mercy and Sylvia talk as we finished washing ourselves before getting out.
"Come on, let's head to breakfast." I said as I dressed in my now usual clothing of long pants, short-sleeved shirt over bound breasts, soft leather shoes and with my hair tied up.
I walked to the dining room with Mercy and Sylvia walking behind me respectfully, which I didn't like, before Mercy took her leave to head towards lady Beatrice's room as I walked into the dining room that had servants cleaning basically everything. It was quite dark in the dining room because the shutters over the windows were closed. With a flick of my wrist and a thought I pushed the mana in the room outwards to open all the shutters letting light and new mana into the room. Everyone in the room jumped in fright making me snicker a little at their shock.

"It seems that your access to mana has pulled out your mischievous side, pet." I jumped in shock when my Mistress walked into the room an amused tilt to her lips.
"I apologise Mistress." I bowed slightly to her and pulled back her chair for her before Georgia could.
"There's nothing wrong with it pet, just don't get caught up in it and carried away. I want you to learn how to use it seriously for when I need you to use it. Once you've memorised the spells in Beatrice's books and are able to sue them with ease, you will be learning from Galen full time in how to fight. At the end of next week I expect you ready to go on a hunt." My Mistress advised me giving me a hard serious look with her gold eyes glinting.
"Yes Mistress, I understand." Then I thought about what she meant when she said hunt. "Mistress? What do you mean when you say to be ready to go on a hunt?"
My Mistress smiled at me knowingly as Beatrice walked in with Mercy behind her. They were soon followed by servants bring in trays of food. "You'll find out when Galen takes you next week. Good morning Beatrice." My Mistress greeted her younger sister.
"Good morning Aviva, you're early I see." Beatrice cast a quick glance towards me as she sat down across the table before looking back to my Mistress. They started discussing things as I ate quietly watching Beatrice across from me and admiring her beauty and wondering why she was being so cold towards me now. It hurt. I thought we had a connection after what had happened the other night, but I guess not.
I sighed softly as I finished my food pushing my plate away slightly. I waited for a lapse in their conversation before speaking up. "I apologise Mistress, but I would like to dismiss myself now and wait for lady Beatrice at the garden, if that is alright?"
"You're dismissed pet, but remember take your training seriously." My Mistress warned.
I stood up and bowed to them. "I understand Mistress." I took her words seriously and walked out with Sylvia behind me and we headed towards mountain garden. I breathed in the fresh mana around me and let go of any possible worry I held inside me go. The events of last night faded from my mind and I allowed the pure mana around me to run the memory of the darkness from my mind. "I love this feeling." I murmured closing my eyes and lifting my face to the sun feeling its warmth in my skin.
"What feeling?" Sylvia asked curiously.
I opened my eyes and smiled at her. "Living another day." I told her with a soft smile. "In my old life I'd question if I'd ever get to see tomorrow. Everyday I'd wonder if I'd live another day, but now... I have the power to make sure I get to see tomorrow, to see the dawn of another day of my life, to feel the warmth of the sun on my skin. I no longer have to worry about food, or a place to sleep, or even the constant ache that filled my body before. I no longer physically hurt every second of every day. I feel so healthy and alive. This... these feelings, my memories, they make me appreciate everything I have and every day I live. I love it."
Sylvia watched me with a look I couldn't recognise before she sighed and smiled at me. "You're a strange woman, but I can see where you're coming from."

"Sylvia?" I asked gaining her attention as we walked.
"Hm?" She asked back telling me she has it.
"Would you want to be changed? Into a nightwalker that is." I asked voicing a question I had in my head since I spoke about it with Mercy.
"No." Sylvia stated bluntly and so fast it surprised me. I looked at her curiously as she blushed having realised how she sounded. "Ah... no, I don't want to be changed."
"Why not?" I asked.
A bitter look flashed across her face as she looked at the ground. "I wouldn't be able to stand it."
"What do you mean? Stand what?" I continued to ask and I could see that she disliked my questions. Bitterness, regret and sadness flashed repetitively over her face making me feel uneasy. "Stop, don't answer me if you're feeling uncomfortable. I'm sorry if I was pressuring you."
Sylvia shook her head and I watched her body relax a little my questions having made her tense. "It's fine, I just don't ever want to be changed."
"Okay." I gave up on knowing why for now. Hopefully I'll find out one day. We made it to the garden and this time I didn't hesitate to walk over the strange water to sit down on the same bench I did yesterday.
We only waited a couple of minutes and I stood up when Beatrice and Mercy entered the garden. "No problems today?" Beatrice asked with a perfectly raised eyebrow.
"No, my lady." I shook my head.
"Good, here. Continue memorising and practise what you know." Beatrice ordered placing the books onto the table before turning to Mercy who had other books, scrolls, scraps of paper, and writing tools in her arms.
I frowned slightly before sighing and getting to work. I was halfway through the book and I felt myself growing tired from the use of mana. I was trying to create water out of thin air, freeze it and then mould it using mana but it was very difficult. I dropped my hands and the small amount of water that was floating in the air in front of me dropped to the ground. I was panting and I sat down catching my breath.
I lay back on the grass and moss covered stone looking up at the blue sky through the trees that hung over the clearing. "Firi ki eveth. (Ball of water)" I murmured feeling the mana around me fill my body as I pushed it out of me imagined a ball of water in the air above me. Slowly I watched as water trickled and came together seemingly from thin air and slowly formed a small ball. "Jesholat. (Freeze)" The ball froze over and was the size of my fist. I sat up and picked the ball out of the air feeling how cold it was and the mana inside it. "Renrenoh mra. (Hollow out)" The ball suddenly felt lighter. Suddenly the ball cracked and it shattered in my hands making me groan.
"Govak! (Fucker!)" I hissed sweeping the shards of ice off of me.
"Did you just curse?" I heard an amused voice. I looked over to see Beatrice smirking lightly at me clearly amused.
I felt my face heat up. "Mae athahhaqar! (It's frustrating!)" I complained not even realising I was speaking almost fluently in the ancient language that these spells originated from. "Nothing seems to be working."
"Relax and stop trying so hard, you'll get it in time. We have forever you know." Beatrice sighed at me before turning back to whatever she was doing.
I frowned slightly before sighing in frustration. The sun was going down when Beatrice told me to stop and we started towards the mansion all together. I was leaning against Sylvia again because of how tired I was from all the mana I had used, but thankfully I didn't feel myself close to passing out.
The rest of the week that I had with Beatrice was full of just me getting through only one of the books and perfectly memorising and completing most of the spells. I didn't suggest helping Beatrice to widen her senses again and we didn't actually talk all that much, but I felt quite content in being in her presence and showing her that I was improving.
It was the last day and we were walking back to the mansion before the sun fully sets. I was walking beside Mercy when I remembered what we discussed at the beginning of the week. I grabbed her hand and stopped walking. "Are you going to ask her today?" I asked her.
She looked at me in confusion. "Ask who what?"
I rolled my eyes. "Ask lady Beatrice to change you, remember? You said you'd ask her at the end of our week, it's the end now. I assure you Mercy, she won't say no to you."
Realisation filled Mercy's face before hesitancy set in and she looked towards where Beatrice was still walking down the track. "I don't know." She murmured unsurely.
"Come on Mercy, you said you would, please ask." I basically begged her.
"But... what if she says no?" Mercy asked looking afraid.
I huffed and rolled my eyes before dragging her quickly down the ath to catch up with Beatrice. "Lady Beatrice!" I called after her making her stop and look back at us with a raised eyebrow showing that she was curious as to what I wanted. This whole week has been a great time to learn the small actions Beatrice uses to show what she was thinking or feeling at that moment. "Mercy has something to ask you." I told her making Mercy blush and fidget nervously as Beatrice looked between us questioningly.
"What did you want to ask me Mercy?" Beatrice asked her red head maid.
"We'll leave you two to discuss this by yourselves. Sylvia, come on, we're going ahead." I grinned wickedly letting go of Mercy and walking with Sylvia back towards the mansion.
"That wasn't very nice my lady." Sylvia smirked obviously finding the situation amusing.
"She said she'd ask, not my fault she tried to get out of it." I shrugged my shoulders as we headed to our room then to the bathroom to wash up before dinner.
We walked into the dining room and I found Galen sitting in his seat like the first time I'd seen him in the dining room. He looked unharmed and as deadly as ever. I still felt really bad by unintentionally hitting him with mana that time.
"Oh Galen, um, h-how are you?" I stuttered slightly scared if he hated me now for what I did and since I haven't looked for him to apologise yet since then.
He looked at me with his usual near-translucent green eyes and I saw indifference in them. "I'm fine." He replied with a slight tip of his head.
"Um, look... I'm sorry for what happened in our last training session. I didn't mean for it to happen and I'm also sorry for not having looked for you to apologise sooner." I apologised awkwardly and nervously as I sat at the table waiting for my Mistress and lady Beatrice.
"Purposeful or not, you reminded me not to let my guard down or to underestimate my opponent. It has been a long time since someone has caught me off guard like you did. I will find it a privilege to train you for lady Aviva." Galen stated and I breathed out a sigh of relief glad that he didn't hate, or dislike, me for what had happened.
"Good, I'm glad, and I can't wait for our training sessions to begin again." I told him truthfully. I like the idea of knowing how to fight to defend both my Mistress and myself.
Galen just nodded and my Mistress and her sister walked in at that moment along with the servant carrying food trays. It was halfway through the meal when Beatrice said my name to gain my attention.
"Yes lady Beatrice?" I asked wondering what she wanted.
She shifted a little in her seat as the upper parts of her cheeks tinged pink. "Thank you, for speaking with Mercy about the whole changing thing."
I smiled happily as warmth filled my heart. "It's no problem my lady. I'm glad that I was able to get the both of you to talk about it. So will you be changing her?"
"Yes I will be. On the next full moon, which is in a few weeks, is when I'll be changing her." Beatrice told me with a happy smile on her lips.
"I'm glad." I said happily as we finished our meal and left when I was dismissed by my Mistress.
I sat down on my bed as Sylvia closed the shutters of the window, a thin nightgown hiding her body from sight and the cool air of the night. She walked over to me and sat down beside me. I placed an arm around her back as turned to fully face her. She leant into me and placed her forehead to my shoulder. I moved her long brown hair to expose her neck and I felt my hunger crawl up my throat. I kissed her neck softly before breaking her skin with my sharpened fangs. Pleasure filled us both for different reasons. I only stopped taking blood from Sylvia when she came loose in my arms, leaning heavily against me as she caught her breath. I licked at the small puncture wounds willing them closed before moving us under the covers and putting out the candle on my bedside table with a flick of my wrist and nonchalant thought.
Sylvia wrapped her arms around me and nuzzled my shoulder relaxing into my side as we lay down. "Good night my lady." She whispered huskily.
"Sweat dreams Sylvia." I kissed the top of her head before falling asleep to the in and out of mana within me.
