《Nightwalker》Chapter Twelve

"My lady, it's time to wake up." Someone whispered in my ear as they shook me.
I slowly opened my eyes to see Sylvia standing in front of me a slight smile on her face. I closed my eyes and stretched my body out under the sheets with a groan and then a yawn bringing tears to my eyes. "Good morning." I murmured to the woman whose smile had widened as she watched me. I wiped my eyes as I yawned again and sat up. The images of the previous night had me frozen for a second before warmth filled me. Beatrice's scent came to my nose and had me wanting to see her and feel her right now. Sadly though, I was the idiot who said to wait and get to know each other. I don't even know how to get to know someone else! Let alone a something-hundred year old nightwalker with the beauty of a goddess and is the sister to the person I have pledged my life to.
"Good morning, I'm sorry I had to wake you even though you looked so peaceful." Sylvia apologised as she let me stand up and stretch my body again, my thoughts still reeling with last night's events.
"It's alright, I guess it was going to have to happen sometime." I smiled at her only to see her frowning and looking at my neck. "What?" I asked as I placed my fingers to my neck.
"There's a bruise, where'd it come from?" Sylvia asked stepping forward and touching my neck lightly.
"Let's just say that lady Beatrice's and my experiment yesterday didn't come without consequences." I sighed realising the bruise would have formed when Beatrice had bitten me and didn't seal it letting the blood flow under my skin. Though, I'd let her do it again if it gets me as close as we were last night.
"What were you trying to do yesterday?" Sylvia asked not stepping away from me as her fingers continued to flutter over my skin a hard look on her face and something I couldn't read in her eyes.
"I'm teaching her how to use pure mana." I answered and stepped away from her turning to go into my wardrobe. "But if my lady wants to use pure mana, like a said to you yesterday, she has to accept its power and will inside of her. Let it flow in and out of her when it wants to, but she's so closed off to the world that that can't happen straight away. She first needs to accept what she is and learn how to deal with it. She needs to expand all her senses to their limits and above to be able to feel the mana around her then accept it into her while letting the mana she holds within herself go."
"That sounds complicated and I have no idea how you do it." Sylvia sighed watching me as I changed into a set of my work out gear, which was becoming my preferred clothing.
I pulled my hair up to a high tail and smiled at the woman. "You'd be able to do it. You have a nice flow of mana in and around you. Like my lady, you have to expand your senses and accept the flow into you."
"And how would I even start doing that? I don't have super senses like you Nightwalkers." She scoffed at me.
I thought about it. "You don't need super senses like us. Humans have senses too. All you have to do is take notice of everything around you. And as to where to start even trying... I was asleep for a whole month, which means I was lying still for the whole time. So I guess if you sit somewhere with a large amount of healthy mana around you and just listen, feel, taste and smell everything that is around you, you'd be able to feel the mana then accept it."

"I'm not sitting down for a whole month, I'd die of starvation." Sylvia stated as I walked to the window and opened it allowing the morning sun and cool air to flow into the room. I breathed in the freshness of it all smiling.
"That's why you do it in small stretches at a time." I turned to her and headed to the door. "Thank you Sylvia."
"For what?" She asked looking totally confused.
"You've given me an idea on where to start to teach lady Beatrice in how to accept and control pure mana." I told her as we walked to the bathroom. Once again I wasn't noticed by anyone besides Sylvia who kept glancing at me as we walked like she was making sure I was still there.
"Oh... then you're welcome." Sylvia smiled looking happy.
I laughed softly and walked into the crowded bathroom, which went quiet at the sight of me. I smiled at everyone in the room. "Please don't stop your conversations because of me, I'm only here to bathe." I told them cheerfully feeling strangely giddy today, maybe it's because of what happened last night with Beatrice...
I undressed but kept my hair up before sliding into the water with a sigh. Sylvia slid in beside me holding a sponge and bar of soap. She soaped up the sponge and I turned my back to her and she started to wash me careful of the bruise on my neck.
"Ah so it's true you're awake, Purple." A familiar voice said and I smiled at Mercy as she sat in front of me red hair pooling out around her in the water.
"Yes I am." I confirmed with a smirk. "Obviously."
"Obviously." Mercy snorted unlady-like. "My lady was actually quite worried about you when you wouldn't wake up after so long, I was too actually."
"Really?" I asked in surprise and excitement at the thought of Beatrice worrying about me.
"Yes, at breakfast and dinner she'd stare at your seat with a slight frown on her face looking confused." Mercy grinned at me. My heartbeat quickened a slow smile spread across my face. "It was like she was trying to figure out why she was worried about you in the first place."
"I wonder." I murmured thinking of her words and kisses from last night and the sound of her pleasure. I visibly shivered. I will never forget that night. "Anyway, I'm glad my presence has been noticed enough that when I disappear someone will miss me."
"Well if you ever decide to disappear you have to take me with you." Sylvia spoke up from behind me her arms coming around me to rub at my flat stomach with the sponge. Her breasts pressed up against my back, it felt nice, but there was something wrong with it as well.
"I'll make sure of that, I don't think I'll do very well on my own anyway." I laughed and stepped out of her arms smoothly trying not to show her that I felt a little awkward with her touching me like she was. I turned to her with a small smile and took the sponge from her before motioning for her to turn around, which she did, though she was frowning slightly. I resoaped the sponge and started at her shoulders rubbing in small circles.
"You have to take me too." Mercy piped up. "I mean, I've lived here all my life, I love lady Beatrice and even lady Aviva but I want to see the world."

"Why don't you ask lady Beatrice to change you?" I asked thinking of one of Beatrice's fears of losing Mercy to time and watching her die. "You'll have forever to see the world and how it changes over time."
Mercy was silent and I looked at her to see a solemn expression on her face. "I want to." Mercy murmured looking up at me. "I want to ask her to change me but I'm afraid she'll say no. I want to see the world and how it changes; I want to stay beside lady Beatrice because she's such a good person and a good friend. I don't mind if I have to become like her and call her Mistress, I'd like to stay with you too." I laughed at her finding it funny that they were afraid of each other's rejections. "Why are you laughing at me for?" Mercy demanded.
"Lady Beatrice has told me herself that she considers you her friend and she doesn't want to see you pass like she had to with your mother and her mother before her and so on." I told her smiling brightly. "She's not going to reject your request to be changed and I doubt she'll make you call her Mistress. My Mistress didn't ask or order me to call her Mistress I do that on my own and she hasn't told me otherwise."
"Are you serious?" Mercy asked looking hopeful.
"Very." I confirmed for her finishing washing Sylvia's back who was unusually quiet.
"You better not be lying because I will hit you if you are and I make a fool out of myself for asking." Mercy warned me with a finger point that made me laugh.
"Deal, if lady Beatrice rejects your request then you can hit me as much as you like." I smiled confidently at her. "Come on, it's time for breakfast."
I pulled myself out of the bath and dried myself with the towel Sylvia had brought with her. I led Mercy and Sylvia to the dining hall feeling unusually nervous about seeing Beatrice. I smiled confidently at Mercy as we walked in and I couldn't help but to suck in a breath as I saw Beatrice sitting in her seat, my Mistress not having yet arrived. She looked up at me and her silver eyes met my own capturing me in her gaze.
"Good morning my lady, how are you feeling today?" I greeted her and surprised myself at how calm my own voice sounded even though I felt a crazy need to go to her and touch her.
"Good morning and I'm fine thank you." Beatrice said giving me a small smile that I returned as I sat down.
"I'm glad." I smiled softly at her before standing back up when my Mistress walked through the door with her usual easy grace. Her eyes narrowed on me like she wasn't expecting me to be here before she smiled brightly flashing slightly elongated fangs.
"Good morning Beatrice, my pet." She greeted us as she sat in her seat at the head of the table.
"Mistress." I bowed to her before sitting.
"How was your lesson yesterday?" My Mistress asked and I looked at Beatrice for a second.
"It was very good and I apologise for not appearing at dinner last night... I was helping lady Beatrice with something." I apologised to her as servants placed food in front of us.
"That's fine. Now I've changed your lessons schedule. Instead of learning mana from Beatrice in the morning then going to Galen in the afternoon. For one week you will train with Beatrice everyday and then the next week you will train with Galen then back to Beatrice the following week." My Mistress told me and I couldn't help but to smile feeling happy.
"Yes Mistress." I nodded my head obviously not going to argue with her. I don't mind spending a whole week with Beatrice especially if I'm learning about mana. Through out breakfast I could barely keep my eyes off of Beatrice and my thoughts about last night out of my head. It was seriously driving me insane.
"Sadly I have work to do." My Mistress stood up and I followed her up. "I hope to see you both at dinner tonight. And Beatrice," Beatrice looked up at her sister curiously. "Keep your fangs out of my pet."
Both Beatrice and myself blushed profusely as she walked out of the dinning hall her laugh echoing around the room. I sat back down as my fingers went to the slowly healing bruise on my neck. Though it did hurt, I have to reason that Beatrice was in bloodlust so wasn't able to control herself or the pain she caused with her bite. "I'm sorry." Beatrice muttered looking away from me with a blush.
"Wait! I didn't think nightwalkers could feed off other nightwalkers?" Mercy spoke up from her place behind Beatrice.
"We can, but most don't do it because of what it means." Beatrice answered her a face reddening as she blushed deeper.
"What do you mean?" I asked confused and curious.
Beatrice sighed but wouldn't look at me. "It basically means that you have given yourself to me."
"What? But I've pledged my life to lady Aviva!" I gasped. How can I belong to two people? I mean, I don't mind belonging to Beatrice but... it doesn't feel the same as what I feel with my Mistress. With my Mistress I know she's my Mistress and I pledged to serve her. I don't want to serve Beatrice like I serve my Mistress. I'd rather be courting her than being her servant.
"I know, I'm meaning more of... you've given yourself to me, ah, romantically." Beatrice explained face red and not looking at me.
I felt my heart contract as hopes of there ever being more between Beatrice and myself went through the floor. "Did the nights events after only occur because of me giving you my blood?" I asked softly.
"Possibly... I wasn't in my right mind." Beatrice whispered.
I closed my eyes and sighed trying to get a hold of my breaking heart. Wow. What an impact this woman has on me after such a short amount of time. I opened my eyes and looked away from her. "Alright, I understand." I nodded my head and breathed in deeply to let the mana around us fill me before leaving me, taking some of the pain I was feeling at that moment away. "I have an idea of how to start helping you to expand your senses. Is there a place we can practice outside that is surrounded by nature?"
Beatrice looked at me with a pained expression before her features smoothed out and she looked at me blankly. "Yes, there is. Mercy, can you show her to the mountain garden while I go get the books that I need."
"Of course." Mercy agreed. I stood up when Beatrice did and watched as she left without a glance back. "That was a strange conversation, what did I miss?"
"Nothing." I answered sadly and headed towards the door. "You missed nothing. Shall we go? When we get there you should ask her about changing you."
Mercy grimaced like she wasn't too sure if she should or not. "I don't know. Maybe now isn't the right time. I'll ask at the end of the week when you're training with her is finished for the week."
"Alright, but I assure you, she will consider it and most probably allow it to happen." I told her as she took the lead and went down a hallway I haven't actually been down before. We arrived at a large door and Mercy opened it giving way to bright sunlight. We walked outside and I had to stop as the mana around me was something I've never felt before. Inside the mana was healthy and felt nice when it went through me, but out here it was life itself and everything good. The feeling of such fresh mana going through me made me feel like I could just let go of everything letting my mind go and float off with it to who knows where.
Everything was so light, nothing was bad, nothing was evil. Life filled my mind and I could feel the trees, grass, insects and small creatures that were living only a few metres away. I felt like nothing could be better in my life. Everything was so tranquil and had a place where it belonged. I could feel my mind drifting off with the birds that flew threw the sunshine, singing and playing with friends and family. The wind through their feathers felt like a soft breeze running through my hair. So peaceful and soft.
My mind wandered through the air floating with the wind as the sun shined down on everything. Plants filled the air with their scents and mana. I could allow my mind to wonder forever in this life filled place and I nearly did if I wasn't interrupted.
"My lady?" Someone asked making my drifting mind snap back to where it should be.
I gasp in surprise as I realised what nearly happened. I looked at Sylvia in shock. I was nearly lost in the mana. I felt it. I was loosing myself letting my mind drift away from my body trying to feel and explore the life of nature around me. "Thank you Sylvia." I thanked her sincerely.
"Are you okay? You looked a bit stunned. Would you like to go back inside? Is the sun too much for you?" Sylvia asked softly placing her hand to my arm almost intimately.
"No... no I'll be fine. The suns not hurting me... it's just that the mana around us took me off guard." I frowned as I looked around but couldn't get the tranquil feeling of just letting everything go out of my head. I'm going to have to be careful that I don't loose myself. "Sylvia, if I become silent or frozen like that again can you gain my attention as soon as possible please?"
"Ah... sure." Sylvia agreed even though she was confused.
I smiled sweetly at her and touched her cheek tenderly. "Thank you Sylvia, you're a good friend."
Sylvia's smile faulted and seemed to turn fixed but I didn't give it too much thought and turned away from her. I walked towards where Mercy was waiting at the bottom of a set of stairs that lead to a path that was going off to what looked like a forest. "Sure... what are friends for?" I heard Sylvia reply to me quietly making me smile happily. I'm glad I have her here. I've never had a friend before and I'm glad Sylvia was my first.

The Ruined Monks of Rothfield Monastery
Erin is the youngest member of the dark monks; a supernatural brotherhood whose ultimate mission is to improve the dire circumstances of poor, war-torn villages using powers unique to each member. Or so he was led to believe. Erin, like his brothers, does not age, and that is, unfortunately, the only trait he shares with them. He cannot charm or compel like Woodrow, he cannot cast illusions like Knox, he was not swift like Swithin, not powerful like Blake. He was barely an assistant to his dear brother Wilbur, with his herbology and alchemy. He was told to lie low and make himself scarce. That is what he did. The dark monks temporarily reside in abandoned monasteries scattered around the country, feeding the poor and healing the sick, nurturing the monastic lands until it was fertile enough to raise crops and rear animals. As the years passed, they would leave these reformed, repopulated, self-sustaining monasteries and venture froth to help the next settlement. Yet, after years of toiling and quiet servitude, Erin notices that people and the country itself are declining. The villagers look gaunt, the once-lush soil now barren and cracked. He begins to feel disheartened, thinking that their mission is proving futile. Still, their leader Blake is steadfast and charges onward, and lately has his eyes set on a certain monastery in a thick, thorned forest that seems to diminish, even nullify their powers. A thick forest that Erin somehow has a connection to. A thorned glade where an ethereal voice calls his name with one simple request along with a promise:Heal the land, child. Heal the land and I promise to give you sanctuary so long as you stay. I promise to nurture you as you nurture me. As Erin cultivates the land, the land, in turn, gifts all its caretakers with new, enhanced skillsets on top of their unique powers -- skills of protection, healing, and magic. Magic. Erin had long wished to see the world fill with it again. The people, regardless of common or noble blood, still believe that magic will enter this world again. Magic to bless the king like it did the Saints. Magic to dispel the miasma befouling the world. Magic to bring back the fae folk and their many forms. It is up to Erin to forge the many paths leading to a bright future; to build a prosperous paradise that welcomes all races and bloodlines, by mastering the rewards gained through agriculture, horticulture, and animal husbandry, smithing, crafting, and fishing. Erin may also find a lifelong friendship and romance with his neighbor, Claude, if he decides to pursue him, and may even join him in the military campaign outside the monastery. The darkness still lurks outside, after all, and the mastery of his skills, along with a few good friends, may finally be enough to turn the tide in their favor. Most of all, Erin wants to keep the vow he set for himself: to protect everyone and everything he loves until his dying breath.
