《Nightwalker》Chapter Eight

The next time I woke up my vision and hearing was better but things were still a little muffled and blurry and I could only feel my hands and feet but couldn't move them. A voice called to me and I turned my head to see Sylvia looking down at me with wide fearful eyes and beside her was Mercy who turned and quickly left my line of vision.
I tried to speak and I tried to understand what Sylvia was saying to me but neither happened. I saw her hand touch me and shake me but I couldn't feel it and soon, once again my eyelids fell, shrouding my world in darkness.
My eyes were closed. I could feel my body. I could smell my own scent and blood. I could taste my own mouth, which was dry and uncomfortable, and I could hear my sluggish heartbeat in my own ears but nothing else.
No, there was something else. I couldn't see anything but I could hear a buzzing in my ears like a bee flying right beside them. I could taste something rich and burnt on my tongue. I could smell something that smelt like it was burning. I could feel the air around me vibrating with power and energy and it was a physical weight on my body. I didn't fight the weight, I let it sink into me, flow into my body and flow into my veins, heart, brain and every other system in my body. I let it fill me up and weigh me down to its own content before feeling it leave and come back with every breath I took.
I breathed in, power and energy flowed inside and filled my body. I breathed out, the power and energy left me making me feel light and free. I breathed in again and once again I was filled to the tipping point before breathing out and it flowed out of me. I let it do as it wanted as I continued to breathe in and out evenly, slowly getting use to feel of being full then empty. I felt so tranquil and soon once again I was asleep but the feeling of being full then empty continued.
I opened my eyes to see that I was in my room. I sat up feeling refreshed, calm and almost weightless. I breathed in and felt the energy around me fill me before I breathed out and it emptied from me. It no longer bothered me, the feeling of being full then empty, so I got out of bed stretching my arms and legs with a yawn. I was wearing a white silk nightshirt and pants and they were very comfortable. I looked around me and moved my hands around feeling the energy in the air. I smiled as it wrapped around me before I let it go and it went back with the rest of itself. I think this is what my Mistress was talking about when she was talking about mana. The life of everything.
I just couldn't help but wonder why I could feel the mana in the air and around me, it just seemed so easy and right to move it and mould it before letting it do as it pleases within and around me. I walked to my walk-in wardrobe and changed into my combat gear, because it was the most comfortable of the clothing I had. I had just walked out of the wardrobe when the door to my room opened and Sylvia walked in holding a tray, which held a bowl of water and a sponge. She saw me standing there and dropped the tray in shock.

"Good morning Sylvia." I smiled at her feeling completely at ease with everything around me.
Tears appeared in her eyes and she launched herself at me. "Thank god you're awake." Sylvia cried arms wrapped tightly around me as she trembled. "I didn't think you were going to."
I laughed softly before pushing her away to arms length. "Calm down Sylvia, I'm awake now. How long have I been asleep for?"
Sylvia tried to calm her breathing as she fiddled with her hands. "You've been sleeping for a month but you woke up now and then during it but could never respond to our calls."
"Yes." I nodded. "I recall two such occasions but I could never move."
"How are you feeling?" Sylvia asked worriedly.
I smiled brightly at her. "I feel absolutely amazing." I tell her confidently. "I feel so comfortable in my body like I've never been before. I just feel relaxed and weightless, like I can do anything I want to do."
Sylvia finally smiled happily. "You look different I can tell you that, like you're glowing."
"Thank you." I grinned at her before it faulted slightly. "Is my Mistress angry with me?"
"Um... I actually have no idea, she's been acting normal the whole time, though she was taken by surprise to see Galen passed out on the ground then you passing out too." Sylvia answered awkwardly and I grimaced.
"How is Galen, is he awake now?" I asked hoping that he doesn't hate me and will continue to train me.
"He's completely fine. He woke up a couple of hours after it happened." Sylvia told me assuredly and I sighed out in relief. "He's just as confused as we are as to what happened. He says one second you were just standing there before you got into a stance and when you threw a punch at him something slammed into his chest that sent him backwards."
"I'm sorry, but I have no idea what happened either." I shrugged looking and feeling guilty.
"Hmm, well since you're awake now I guess we have to go see lady Aviva." Sylvia said picking up her tray, bowl and sponge; the water that was in the bowl now all over the floor. She placed the tray on the bedside table before walking out of the room. I sighed dejectedly and followed her to my Mistress's office. Sylvia knocked on the door and tried to reassure me with a smile but it didn't help.
"Come in." I heard my Mistress call and Sylvia opened the door walking inside. It was a large room with a rug taking up most of the floor and shelves full of book taking up the walls. My Mistress was sitting at her large wooden desk that was covered with paper, ink and ink-nibs. I looked at my Mistress and I was taken aback by the ferocity of the power that flowed within her. The amount of mana she holds is astounding and very intimidating. But when I look at Sylvia, her mana that I can feel is sweet and also holds a good amount of power, but not nearly as much as my Mistress was holding. It must feel like she was holding the weight of the mansion within her.
"Pet." My Mistress said looking surprised.
"Mistress." I greeted her with a bow trying not to show her how nervous I was.
"I'm glad you're awake." My Mistress smiled and I breathed out a breath of relief. "I didn't actually think you would."

"I apologise if I have been a burden on you for the past month I have been sleeping Mistress." I apologised looking at the ground.
"You were no burden, my pet, I'm just curious as to what happened." She said leaning forward in her seat looking at me intently.
"I don't exactly know what happened Mistress. I was training with Galen and after I had finished healing I expanded my senses. All I intended to do was practice a few punches while imagining them finally being able to hit Galen but when I threw the first punch this... wave or ripple went through the air and hit him in the chest sending him flying. The last thing I remember is you and lady Beatrice running in demanding what had happened." I explained to her.
"When you threw the first punch what did you feel?" My Mistress questioned me standing up from her desk and walking to me. She stood in front of me before walking around me in a circle scrutinisingly.
"Well my senses were at their highest peak so I could hear, see, smell, taste and feel basically everything. When I was setting up the first punch I felt a vibration running through the air and a heaviness that filled my body that flowed to my hand weighing it down. I didn't take notice of it because I didn't think it was anything, then I threw the punch at the weight left my hand." I explained thinking back to a time that felt like it was just yesterday.
"You look, smell and feel different. I can barely sense you at all actually." My Mistress murmured stopping in front of me and looking me up and down.
I breathe in slowly and felt the mana in the room flow into me then back out. "I feel different Mistress. Every time I breathe in a feel the same weight fill me to breaking point then flow back out when I breathe out. This weight, this energy I feel every where I go, is this mana?" I asked her seriously looking deep into her molten gold eyes.
"Of course..." My Mistress whispered to herself rather than to answer my question. "You used mana to push Galen away, but how did you do it without uttering a single word? You say you're feeling it now?"
"Every time I breathe Mistress." I confirmed for her.
"Amazing." My Mistress smiled brightly. "Absolutely amazing. You, my pet, are the best thing I have ever created since I was changed."
I blushed at her praise. "Thank you Mistress."
"You're going to need to be trained in how to use it immediately." She stated. "Alright, every morning till midday you will have lessons with Beatrice to teach you to read, write and count and she will also teach you how to control mana. In the afternoon you will train with Galen."
"Yes Mistress." I agreed with her. "Ah, does Galen hold a grudge against me for what I did to him."
"Of course not my pet, he's actually very proud of you." My Mistress smiled at me and patted my head like a dog, but then again, I am her dog aren't I?
"Oh good." I sighed relieved.
"Now that you're awake and that's all settled, go to the dining hall and get something to eat then head to the library." My Mistress ordered as she walked back to her desk. "Sylvia, get her some food then go tell Beatrice to meet my pet in the library."
"Yes Mistress/my lady." Sylvia and I said at the same time before I bowed to her and left.
"That could have gone bad." I muttered as we walked and Sylvia laughed.
"Yes it could have." She laughed. "I'll meet you in the dining hall."
"Alright." I agreed and she walked off towards the kitchen. I walked towards the dining hall and frowned as I noticed that no one was actually looking at me like they usually do when I walk around... it was actually like they didn't even see me as they walked back and forth.
A girl actually ran into me too and she turned to me with a glare. "Watch where you're going." She snapped then realised whom she just spoke to and paled. "Oh god! I-I'm so sorry! I-I d-didn't mean to snap at you my lady!" She apologised profusely and I laughed.
I smiled at her as kindly as I could. "It's no problem, accidents happen and I must have been in the way, I apologise. You seem in a rush so I will leave you be. Have a good day and don't work too hard." I apologised to her still smiling kindly and I watched as she spluttered and blushed deeply. I turned away from the stunned girl and continued on my way toward the dining hall. None of the servants noticed me as I passed, which made me curious. I stopped where I was and leant against the wall out of the way of the flowing traffic of people. Why does my Mistress need so many servants for only a few people? Anyway, I leant against the wall and I saw a boy walking close to me holding a book open and reading it, which also surprised me, I didn't think servants were taught how to read. As he passed a pinched his arm making him look up but as he looked around his eyes went straight over me and he looked utterly confused as he looked over the other servants minding their own business.
He shook his head rubbing his arm before continuing on his way leaving me completely astounded. He totally missed me standing right beside him! I quickly walked into the dining hall and waited for Sylvia. While I waited I walked to the closest window and opened it. I haven't been outside yet nor have I seen it. The sun hurt my eyes at first but they quickly adjusted and I felt it warm my face like a kiss from a loved one, not that I remember having many of those.
I looked outside to see a large garden taking up most of the view from this window. I smiled at the life and mana I felt when I looked at all the vibrant flowers and trees. I opened the windows to feel more of the suns warmth and the breeze. I closed my eyes sucking in the warmth from the sun and freshness of the wind that picked up some of my hair. I felt the mana in everything flow through me as I breathed and it was such a calming and relaxing feeling.
I heard a gasp from behind me and I turned while opened my eyes to see Sylvia standing there in shock.
