THE UNEXPECTED

“patrick?” mrs.hockstetter’s voice sounds from outside the door, causing both him and y/n to jump up from their sleeping state.
the long haired boy curses under his breath, covering his girlfriend's body with the comforter as he gets up and throws on a t-shirt and shorts.
he opens the door gently, one hand rubbing his tired eyes.
“yes?” he raises an eyebrow expectantly, wanting nothing more than to go back to sleep.
the day before had been one of the most tiring days he's ever experienced.
mama hockstetter furrows her eyebrows, noticing the disheveled hair and dark bags under her son's eyes.
“oh, honey, have you been sleeping?” she pouts, reaching a hand out to run his face. he slaps it away and sighs.
“if you don't need anything i'm going back to sle—”
“right. butch's kid is at the door along with those two other kids you hang with. they said it was important.”
patrick groans, throwing his head back in slight annoyance. of fucking course the gang shows up at a time like this.
he nods, not letting her say anything else as he closes and locks the door, stumbling back to bed and allowing his body to fall face first into the mattress.
the movement causes y/n to stir before sitting up, a yawn falling past her plump lips.
“good morning.” she crinkles her nose, a small smile adorning her face as she notices the boy's current state.
he rolls onto his back and sends her a quick cheese, wrapping his arms around her waist and resting his head on her lap.
“yeah.” he hums, “the gang's downstairs. get dressed and come down.”
he makes a move to stand up but the smaller female grips his arm, her eyes wide and slightly tearful.
“we're not telling them.” she whispers, afraid to speak too loudly and risk someone hearing, “not yet, please. we—i can't. let's just wait until we know for sure.”
patrick chuckles, leaning down and pecking her lips before standing tall and stretching.
“i know, baby.”
he shoos her away, watching as she very groggily picks out an outfit out of the many she left in his closet, before going to the bathroom.
once he hears the shower water running, he walks out.
he forces himself to stop smiling as he saunters down the hall and to the living room, immediately hearing the loud banter of the gang.
“hey.” patrick mumbles, gaining their attention.
“man, it feels like it's been forever since we seen you, cockstetter!” henry grins, punching the taller boy in the arm.
“yeah, i've been busy.”
victor snorts, “busy with y/n/n.”

the pale skinned boy shrugs, trying his best to hide the blush that creeps up his neck.
“speaking of y/n, she hasn't been home in a while. butch has been on my ass about it. i know she's here with you so can you try and convince her to at least stay for a day or two?”
just as patrick's going to speak, the sound of footsteps descending down the stairs is heard.
all four boys glance at it, eyes a bit wide as they take in the female's appearance.
she didn't look terrible, but she didn't look as good as normal either.
“are you sick, y/n? that bites.” belch speaks up, showing faux pity.
“uh, yeah.” she replies, face showing no emotion.
once she reaches the bottom of the stairs, she stands beside patrick, allowing him to protectively pull her into his side.
“hey, cousin.” the boy in the red muscle tank smiles, not making eye contact with the girl.
“hi. i heard that butch is worrying about me? that's a first.”
henry nods and lifts an arm to rub the back of his neck, his shirt riding up a bit and that's when y/n notices a few scars along his stomach.
she sighs, suddenly feeling guilty.
“i'll come and stay for a few days. maybe wednesday after school i can sneak out or something.”
“thanks.”
an awkward silence overtakes the room, the five teens either staring at the ground or fiddling with their fingers.
eventually, y/n has had enough of it and speaks up.
“i think i'm pregnant.” her eyes widen at the sudden outburst, her mouth hanging open and her heart beginning to pound heavily in her chest.
she mentally scolds herself, not knowing why the hell she just blatantly told everyone.
patrick is the first to react, his baby blue eyes growing as he practically breaks his neck to look around, hoping that his parents weren't anywhere near.
thankfully, they weren't.
“what the hell.” he glares down at the female, completely ignoring the shocked expressions of the other three men.
“i-i'm sorry, i don't know why i did that i…” y/n's y/e/c eyes lock with henry's and she lets out a sob, “i'm scared. henry, i'm so fucking scared.”
henry lets out a barely audible gasp as his cousin stalks over to him and collapses in his arms. he very gently plays with her hair, whispering soothing words into her ear until she calms down.
she soon stops, her eyes till red as she stares up at the young man she practically called her brother, awaiting his response.
“what are you planning on doing?” he asks, eyes wide and showing the smallest amount of fear.
“i don't know, we scheduled an appointment for tomorrow after school to see if i actually am...and after that—”

“we’ll figure it out.” patrick speaks up.
“but butch…” the boy who used to have a mullet says, “if you come home he's gonna take his anger out on you.”
“he'd better fucking not.” a frown adorns the hockstetter boy's face, “you better not let that little shit touch her or i swear to—”
“relax. i've never let him lay a finger on her. what makes you think i'd let it happen now?”
belch and victor stare back and forth between bowers and patrick, as if they were watching a soap opera.
suddenly, victor clears his throat.
“we're gonna... go.”
☆
henry and y/n walk onto the farm with their pinkies intertwined—something they hadn't done since they were about four years old.
it was a silent promise made between the two, this time reassuring each other that they'd have one another's backs.
they knew they were about to be in for a hell of a ride.
henry very slowly unlocks and opens the front door, cringing as the two of them step in and the floor creaks.
they hear the television talking very loudly in the back, and take that as their chance to rush down the hall and into their separate rooms.
just as y/n is about to close her room door, butch yells.
“y/n y/m/n y/l/n! get your whoring ass over her right fucking now!”
the eighteen year old female bites her lip nervously as she walks down the hall and into the living room, her hands behind her back as she stands right in front of her uncle.
“y-yes, butch?” she stutters, cowering back as he stands from his recliner.
“where have you been?” he sneers, stepping so close that she can smell the alcohol on his breath.
“out with some friends, sir.”
“did i ever give you permission to go out with some friends?”
y/n shakes her head, but quickly responds as he yells at her to use her voice.
“no, sir.”
butch scoffs and takes the last swig of his beer before slamming it on the ground beside her, causing her to jump back.
“get the hell out of my face.” he scowls, stomping at her and laughing as she hurriedly scampers away.
as y/n rushes down the hall, she bumps into something hard. she looks up to see that it's henry with a hard glare etched on his face.
he seemed to be in some sort of zone as he stares deviously at the ground.
“you okay, henry?”
the boy's soft eyes slowly trail up her body, not even bothering to hide the harsh stare he sends her stomach.
of course something had to go and make things worse. it always happens. there was not a day in the bowers’ kid's life that things went normal.
the slightly taller male takes a deep intake of air before nodding and looking her in the eyes.
“yeah. yeah, i'm fine.” he sighs, “are you okay?”
y/n nods, solemnly watching as he begins to make his way back to his own room.
just as he's about to close the door, she speaks up.
“can i—do you mind if i sleep with you?”
the question takes him off guard and he stiffens. he turns back around to face her and notices the dullness of her eyes.
she needed him. she had no other family besides him.
“sure.”
☆
patrick hated school.
no, scratch that. he really hated school.
the only reason he goes is to torment other students.
as him and the gang stepped into the school's crowded halls, he suddenly felt worried.
instinctively, he reaches for his shorter girlfriend, pulling her in front of him and resting his hands on her hips.
his thumbs sneak up her shirt and very gently rub over her stomach, causing y/n to fidget.
“stop it.” she whines, trying to pull out of his grasp, but he doesn't budge.
“i'll stop as soon as we're in class.” he chuckles, nudging her to begin walking.
before they know it, four hours have gone by and it's lunch time. meaning it's also time for patrick and y/n to leave for the doctors.
they leave hand in hand, deciding to walk as the office wasn't too far from the school.
when they get there, y/n suddenly feels jumpy, her right leg bouncing as she sits and waits for her name to be called.
“mr and mrs.hockstetter?” a nurse calls.
the y/h/c haired female sends a small smile in patrick's direction as she hears the names, allowing him to hold her hand while they walk in.
y/n sits down on the bed, her hands over her tummy and her eyes looking everywhere but at the nurse.
“so you guys are here for a pregnancy check, right?” the elder female questions, smiling politely at the two. she could feel the fear radiating off of the both of them.
they both nod.
the nurse nods in return, taking out some needles and suringes in order to draw blood.
once she's done, she leaves the room and tells the two teens that it'll probably be a thirty minute wait.
those thirty minutes seem to be over in five.
the graying haired nurse walks in with a smile. not just any smile; one of those sympathetic ones.
y/n immediately knows what that means. she chokes back a sob, patrick pulls her face into his chest to soothe her.
“congratulations, you two! you're expecting!”

Core Chronicles
Core Chronicles is a series of interrelated stories, including in-depth major story arcs and shorter side stories about Cores and those affected by them through direct and indirect means. The first arc is planned to be Dungeon Core with City Building elements in an Urban Fantasy setting. It will mainly follow one main character's point of view, but on occasion, the POV may shift to side characters to give more information about what is happening in the wider world. The stories will also examine how the world changes with the introduction of magic and its various purposes. The System will be between soft and crunchy, with discrete levels and stats for characteristics and skills. But, for example, the health statistic will be a less clear indicator rather than a distinct stat.

Everywhere else the constant threat of a lightning swift Viking incursion loomed over the land.Growing up in this lawless world is a displaced Daynin McKinnon, heir to an ancient familial keep on the island of Rhum. He and his grandfather Ean scratch out a living amongst the Saxons, careful never to divulge their clan heritage. That all changes when Kruzurk Makshare chooses Daynin as the ideal prospect to help him bring down a vile sorcerer named The Seed of Cerberus, ferreted away in his impregnable fortress at Blackgloom. Little does Kruzurk know that in so doing, he will launch young Daynin, himself and others on a vast, dangerous quest that no one could have foreseen. *****One Hollywood producer has dubbed this three book fantasy epic from Jon Baxley as, "BRAVEHEART meets THE LORD OF THE RINGS." Real places, people and events flesh out this fast moving, multi-faceted semi-historical series but fear not fantasy readers.
