Chapter 2: Wildest Dreams
//\//\//\//\//\//\//\//\//\//\
I woke up in a boiler room. I'm covered in sweat and I'm starting to feel like I'm losing air because of how hot it is.
I got up and started walking around, looking for an exit. taking lefts, rights. going upstairs, downstairs. I found no sign of an exit.
As I walked some more I had a feeling that I was being followed. Instead of turning around I started running, hearing huge footsteps behind me making me run even faster.
Once I didn't hear them anymore I stopped running due to the lack of air I had.
I leaned on a rusted railing, panting. The feeling of being followed didn't go away, and now I feel like I'm also being watched.
I made a move and swiftly looked behind me. nothing was there. I turned back around to see a burnt man with butter knives as fingers, grinning creepily at me.
I screamed and started running again, hearing his footsteps going from getting louder to getting quieter.
I came across a bunch of lockers. i stood there completing if i should get in one or not, until finally deciding to just get in one.
I got in the locker and it was deeper inside than a locker should be. I backed up until I hit the back of the locker.
I heard the knives sliding across the rails making an annoying screeching sound.
I sucked in my breath and put my hand over my mouth. it got quiet. too quiet.
I peeped out the three holes on the locker door and nothing was there. no sign of anyone.
trusting my instinct i stayed in the locker.
It was a few more seconds before that thing jumped down in front of the locker I was in and yanked the locker door open.

"Found ya!" it said before it lifted up it's hand and dragged me out by my shirt, throwing me on the ground.
it lifted its arm like it was about to slash me into millions of shreds. but before it could slash me i kicked him where it hurts and made a run for it.
"ok. let's think. horror movies. stuck in a dream where you're being chased by a burned up monster with butter knives as fingers. ok.'' I said to myself.
I heard tapping. "I see you!" it laughed.
"cmon Y/n think!..." I banged my head with my fist repeatedly. "Nightmare on Elm Street! of course. damn, i'm dumb."
I looked over to my right and saw that i'm in the same spot Nancy was. Y'know the scene where she fell asleep in class and ended up in the boiler room?
I didn't hesitate. I quickly put my arm on the burning pipe and screamed in agony.
I jolted awake, shouting profanity and holding my arm. I looked around my room, it's still midnight. I looked around my room and my eyes landed on a human shaped figure.
I sat there and stared at it, I could only assume it stared back.
I slowly got out of my bed but the figure didn't move. So I took that as my chance. I ran towards the door and bolted down the hallway.
I opened every door I saw, in results they'd be a closet, bathroom, or an empty bedroom.
I opened another door and was a bit relieved to see Jessi sleeping soundly.
I ran over to her bed and began shaking her, but she wouldn't move.
When she wouldn't move I went with the only option left. "Wake up!" I shouted in her ear.

She jumped up and quickly looked my way. "Are you crazy?" she shouted.
"maybe. Maybe I am. i just had a dream where a burnt man was chasing me around a boiler room trying to murder me. Then, when I woke up shouting in pain after I had to literally burn myself to get out of that dream, there was a tall human figure standing in my room. I don't know about you but I'd think someone is trying to kill me." I whisper-shouted.
She stared at me with wide eyes. but not the 'omg i can't believe that happened' kind, but the 'i thought i told them not to do that' kind.
"WHAT ARE YOU HIDING?" I finally shouted, causing her to jump a little.
"jeez, umm. woah. y'know it's pretty late, we should go back to bed." She tried to change the subject, but I wasn't going to let her do that. I need answers, and now.
She tried going back to bed, pulling her covers over her head in the process. I yanked it off and threw it on the floor.
"get up and tell me what you're hiding. now.'' I said through gritted teeth.
"fine." she said getting up, dragging me to her couch area.
We sat down in silence.
"so?"
"huh?"
"Are you gonna tell me what's going on or not!"
"Right, right, my bad." She cleared her throat. "so a long, long time ago, a-"
"Look, stop with the BS, ok. Tell me what's going on." I grew angrier by the second.
"fine. we're living with a few other guests. if you were to read the letter like you were told to, you would have known that." she said with crossed arms.
"ok, so why was one of them in my room? and i've never had a dream like that, ever. so, why now?" I asked.
"Look, everything will make more sense tomorrow. be up by 7. breakfast is served at 8. just, let me go to sleep.'' She walked back to her bed.
"You must be out of your mind if you think I'm going back in that room." that made her turn around.
"fine. sleep on my couch. goodnight."
if sleeping in here is what's gonna keep me safe, then so be it. i layed down and grabbed the covers that were sitting at the top of the couch and tried falling asleep.
Guess I'll wait and see what tomorrow holds.

Dungeon Core Chat Room.
This is a slower-paced "experiment and dungeon building" web novel that tries to use the idea of peer-to-peer communication with Dungeon Cores instead of Dungeon to slave monster communication to break up the detailed dungeon building. Rank 1 description: (minimum met for system initialization...detailed description as follows) Each race was given a system by the gods to make up for their shortcomings and balance their place in this world. Humans: Abysmally bad at understanding and using magic unable to use more than the lowest of magic were given the "Skill System" magic in the form of premade skills with use, study, and mastery tied to experience. Elves: Intuitively understand magic and have long lives leading to vast knowledge and skill in their chosen fields. However, as a species, they have nearly zero sex drive and less than low fertility, so they were gifted the "World Tree System" with experience gained through the care of natural areas – gifting the chance of children to increase their numbers without dirty copulation. All “natural” or “wild” monsters are given an "Evolution system" designed around killing and consuming as many creatures as possible, slowly increasing strength and, at thresholds, allowing mutations to alter them multiple times. Dungeon cores are different. Unlike humans, they can see, manipulate and live off mana. Unlike Elves, they naturally crystallize after extended periods of time in high mana level areas. However, they cannot easily move or communicate and typically go insane without companionship. As a species other than the odd eccentric they are unimaginative. Brute forcing solutions without the drive to truly innovate. Thus they have been gifted with the "Dungeon Connection System" a magical version of the internet accessible by their peers that allows them to barter and sell: bait, traps, monsters, and knowledge, as well as entertain each other with “adventure streams” using exciting recorded battles and humorous reels of arrogant chumps biting off more than they can chew to often fatal effects. This is the casual story of a dungeon unluckily spawned far from potential adventurers forced to innovate beyond its peers to find its place in this world. Rank 2 Description: Justification. I've been on a dungeon core kick for months and while I love the genre – it's sparse with entries. Often the forced conflict gets repetitive and frantic solving of threats "power levels" the protagonist to god levels to progress the plot – taking away the nice steady progression fantasy I'm looking for. (Progression in this story is linked to how strong of monsters/traps/whatever he can create not his "level"...this is demonstrated by some of his newer monsters beating his older monsters not with discrete "this monster has 10 attack this one has 40") Additionally, the focus on 3rd parties with their drama takes away from the reason I’m reading dungeon core novels in the first place – I'm looking for magical crafting, experimentation and kingdom building – not defence from higher and higher levelled enemies looking to steal/destroy/control the MC. This novel is kind of just me writing the story I wish I could read. I like thinking about the experimentation that can be done in fantasy settings using 'mana' as an excuse to make up rules and try to keep them internally consistent. IE once I define how a rule works, I'm going to commit to keeping it – no breaking hard truths I've given when it's convenient, even if it backs me into a corner. Hopefully, that should make the story interesting to read even if it's SOL and less action-oriented. There will be problems to solve and a clear progression in strength (of created monsters and knowledge) however due to not wanting to force conflict for the sake of conflict the general theme will be closer to slice of life with few action sequences and no overarching goal so please keep that in mind when picking this up as the genre is not for everyone. Finally, I have a clear goal of what I want from this story (not an endless romp but a series of arcs and then a conclusion that's a couple of dozen medium-sized chapters long) I want to commit to finishing it or at least bringing it to a point of rest. I hate all the engaging stories that stop with a “hiatus” indefinitely so in the event I lose motivation I'll work to end this even if the ending becomes rushed/unsatisfying just to give a sense of closure. I’m planning on including several polls in terms of direction and taking feedback heavily into account if I get enough readers (but may choose to ignore it if it deviates too far from the direction I want to take this as in feedback like: “The MC needs a cartoonishly evil arch-enemy that wants to enslave him and force the mc to pump out magic items” or “the MC needs to make a body and learn teleportation then live with humans” will get shot down without consideration.)
