《bloodied arrogance || crowley eusford》18

you scrunch you're nose up in irritation as you continue to listen to crowley's pacing; the sound of his footsteps ring in your ears and prevent you from falling asleep.
"can you stop walking around?" you hiss into the dark. the footsteps cease a moment later. you turn your head to meet crowley's eyes in the dark room.
crowley is silent for a moment, as if contemplating something. "can you stand up?"
you raise an eyebrow, propping yourself up on your elbows. "what for?" you question, a cautious tone to your voice.
crowley huffs out a breath of air, rolling his eyes at you. "please just stand."
please just stand
please
you grit your teeth at his words, but still, something compelled you to stand nonetheless.
you slowly pull yourself to your feet, but you don't make your way over to the vampire. he watches you, a little surprised you followed even such a simple command without argument. he doesn't smile about it this time.
when you don't make an attempt to move closer, crowley takes that aspect of his idea into his own hands, taking measures steps towards you. he stops in front of you, the light from the hallway through the partially open door casts shadows across his sharp, porcelain features. you resist the urge to reach out to him, to see if his ethereal appearance is real, or if you touch him, will he disappear for good?
crowley reaches out for you first, placing his gloves hands omg your shoulders, and squeezing gently as he looks down at you with red eyes.
your eyes meet, but you're quick to look away, unwilling to hold eye contact with the vampire before you, who's grip on your shoulders is nothing less than careful. as if if he squeezed too hard, or not enough, you may be the one to disappear.
your gaze instead meets the dark floorboards beneath your feet, which are much darker with only the light from the hallway to illuminate their surface.
crowley's hands slide off of your shoulders, moving slowly down your arms. his hands reach your wrists, and he holds them gently, stopping just short of holding your hands.

neither of you move for a moment. neither of you knowing what to do or say, but you do know that there is something crowley wants o do, but is holding back. though your intuition isn't telling you he has malicious intent. when you had previously locked eyes, his gaze was not harmful, or holding bad intent. he seemed cautious, nervous even.
crowley's hands retreat once more, but only to pull off his gloves, revealing the flesh of his hands.
the vampire reaches out again, wrapping his arms around your shoulders in a gentle embrace. one that is timid, almost as if he were afraid of you rejecting such an act.
you freeze, hesitation overcoming you. such a gentle gesture coming from such a dangerous creature.
you want to push him away. you want to yell at him and tell him you're going to kill him, but something compels you. slowly, you reach up to return the gentle hug.
once your arms are secure around crowley's waist, the vampire seems to lose all hesitation. his hold on your shoulders becomes tighter, though he seems to be putting in conscious effort to make sure he isn't hurting you.
though you're a little surprised at his actions, possibilities strike you. what if you have it wrong? what if crowley is just looking to get his human emotions back? that's what he said, isn't it? that "soulmates" bring back human emotions. does that mean that crowley was once a human too?
you ignore the thoughts swarming your head, and your desire to see him in a different light. a kinder light.
think about what he did to guren. what he's done to so many good, and innocent people.
you grip on the progenitor tightens unconsciously with your indecision about him. something inside you wants to make him good, but you're not sure you can do that. just like you can't excuse what he's already done.
after a while, crowley pulls away from you, though his arms still rest lazily on your shoulders. finally, crowley speaks. "i brought you up here so you wouldn't have to sleep on the couch anymore." he says quietly, beginning to trace small circles on your shoulders with his thumbs.

"i'll take the couch." you mumble, crossing your arms to stick with your defiance.
crowley rolls his eyes. "i didn't catch that, so i'm not hearing an argument." he teases, moving his hands from your shoulders and instead taking hold of your waist.
"hey wait-" you hiss, prying at the vampires hands as he pulls you towards the bed on the other side of the room. "stop!"
the progenitor ignores your protests, and instead tosses you onto the big mattress, which is covered by an all too fluffy duvet.
"so that's what all this was about." you grumble, internally cursing the vampire for his misleading tactics.
crowley tilts his head. "not entirely, but yes." he nods, sitting down cross legged at the end of the bed.
you sit up a little, glaring at crowley through some loose strands of hair. "you're a dick."
crowley grins, shuffling over to sit closer to you instead of staying at the end of the bed. you lean back without thinking, unconsciously assuming his actions mean danger.
"i'm not-" he starts, but cuts himself off immediately.
"i know-i think." you stutter, fixing your posture once more. you avoid crowley's eyes, looking around the dark room at anything except for him.
the vampire speaks up after a moment of awkward silence. "if you're tired, you can go to sleep." he assures you, though he sounds sure of his words, he looks awkward.
"right..." you respond, ignoring the awkward tension that continues to build between the two of you.
"i think i'm gonna go do some work, but-"
you roll over while he's talking, shoving your face into a soft pillow. "fuck, i don't care. just go to sleep if you want to." you huff into the pillow, somewhat hoping your words were too muffled for even the vampire to make out. "i don't want to have to listen to you walking around again." it's a pathetic excuse, but if you're being honest, something tells you that you don't want to see him look so awkward again. it doesn't suit him.
"oh?" though normally that word would've been said in a teasing way, in an attempt to rule you up. this time however, crowley sounds just as surprised at your words as you are.
you don't respond to the vampire, and instead opt for burying yourself deeper in the duvet, and facing away from him entirely.
crowley seems to think of something, as instead of laying down, he stands. "i'll be back in thirty seconds." and only a moment later you can hear him leaving the room at lightning speed.
you internally scream at yourself for your actions. what had come over you for you to act and say things you should never have done or said?
you sigh at yourself. where had crowley gone now? you know he'll be back sooner than you could get down even a single flight of stairs, so you decide it's not worth getting in shit right now, especially when you feel he's beginning to put at least a little faith in you.
just as you thought, it's not long at all before crowley is back in the room, but you don't bother to look up to acknowledge his re-entry.
crowley moves slowly when he makes his way towards the bed; creeping slowly, as if he doesn't already know you're still awake.
"fucking lay down and go to sleep." you grumble, pulling the duvet up further to hide your face a little bit more.
crowley says nothing but complies with your irritated demand. he too gets comfortable in the warmth of the duvet, resting his head on one of the pillows scattered around the head of the bed.
you stay on the edge of the bed, keeping away from the vampire as you attempt to fall asleep, while he on the other hand, is almost right in the middle of the bed.
you fall asleep comfortably, allowing sleep to overtake you as you close your eyes for the night.

Author's Note: (This is my first story, and I would be very thankful if grammatical errors were pointed out. I could also take a few suggestions in the comments if you would. This is less a planned production, and more a little project that I'm winging as it goes. I will try and be consistent with at least 2 chapters a week. Also, as I am a completely new author, the number of words per chapter may fluctuate. The minimum will be around 1000 words, while other chapters may be 2000-3000. It will hopefully only get better with time.)
