《Things Left Unspoken (SandersSidesAU)》Chapter Forty-Two

He woke up on Saturday morning to an empty bed and an envelope . He was confused but wasn't sure what was going on. Logan always woke up with him and on days that he wasn't able to, he always told Patton. He hadn't told Patton this time around. He might have just forgotten. Patton shrugged and went to the bathroom. He did his morning routine.

As he did, he kept finding little pink colored confetti slips. A vision of a rose bush flashed through his mind. He smiled. He really loved Logan. He changed into the clothes he must have set out last night.

They were his normal khakis and his light blue shirt except the shirt had a heart with glasses on it. He grabbed the cardigan and wrapped it around his shoulders. He cleaned his glasses too. On the glass cleaner there was a note.

Pat-

I know you by now, the envelope is for you to open darling.

-Logan

Patton smiled at the word darling, he heard Logan's accent when he did. He finished up his glasses and brushed his teeth. He fixed his hair and went back to his bed where they slept last night. He opened the envelope.

The letter inside was:

Dear Darling,

I know how much you love puns and how much I love puzzles, your puns are like puzzles to me. You've done so much for me during the time we are together that you would never know because it's all emotional. You have loved me more in the few months we have been together than I ever thought was possible so I am sending you on a scavenger hunt.

Each place will lead you to another clue. And once you hit the last one, you can find me. Your first clue is:

The one who doesn't speak

Holds a clue to lead you to a place

Where he finds the area to seek

His only ace.

-Logie

Patton sat there. The answer was Virgil, he was going to give a clue for either the theater, a classroom, or Roman's room. Patton kept those ideas in his head and went across the hall.

"Virgil?" Patton asked. Virgil was on his couch alone.

"Hey Patton. I was told to give you this." Vrigil said and handed him a note. "I hope you figure it out because it took forever to figure out a poem." Patton chuckled and read the note.

If this isn't helpful, I'll help you out.

Living together since thirteen

You always loved me

Thomas was never mean,

But he was always a little bit dramatic don't you agree?

"So either theater or Papa's apartment?" Patton asked.

"Good, I figured it wouldn't be clear enough. Also no." Virgil said.

"But he's dramatic, drama goes with the theater and it's where you watched Roman perform." Patton said.

"Yes, but it wasn't the first place I went to find him, on purpose." Virgil told him.

"You first met him when you showed him his room, you went to Papa's office! It's his office! Come with me?" Patton asked.

"Is this you phoning a friend?" Virgil asked.

"More like phoning a cousin but sure why not." Patton said. Virgil sighed.

"Let me get my phone."

"You aren't changing?" Patton asked.

"It's Saturday."

"You have a point." Patton said. They made their way to Thomas' office. Patton opened the door and saw his dad sitting at his computer.

"Patton."

"Papa." Patton said while Virgil closed the door.

"And Virgil!" He said loudly.

Thomas laughed and handed him a note. "Here." Virgil stood with Patton as they read it.

When I got you,

I was given something so much better I could have ever seen

Coming, I was less blue

Little did I know you loved greens.

Patton read it again. Virgil seemed to figure it out on the first try, but this was Patton's puzzle so he stayed quiet. "The gardens!" Patton yelled and dragged Virgil along. Patton could tell Virgil was confused. "I figured that out because I was the one who told him to start it!" Virgil nodded, that must have happened before he got here.

Patton then realized they needed their jackets. They got them and went to the area near the gardens because of the snow.

"Great, thought you would never show up." Janus said. Virgil laughed. Janus looked surprised.

"He does laugh every once and awhile, Janus calm down." Patton said.

"Here's your note and I am going inside." Janus said and Patton chuckled. They all went inside.

Virgil does makeup,

I do protection

Roman gets pumped up,

What do you section?

The library. It was a simple answer. Patton didn't even have to ask Virgil, he dragged his cousin to the library where he worked. The librarian had the note.

Reading is fun,

And to you, almost as much as learning

You are almost done,

Where do you do your best turning?

Patton and Virgil sat in the library for about thirty minutes. Patton looked at Virgil and handed the paper over. Virgil looked at it and smiled. He took a pen out and circled the words learning and turning.

Think about these, where did you really become friends with Logan?

"The botany lab?" Patton asked. Virgil shook his head. He knew each place that Logan hid the notes. Patton was sure. "The bathroom?"

Virgil didn't say anything.

"Virgil, THE bathroom?" Patton asked again. Virgil nodded. Patton leapt up and they were off. "Why would he do that? We haven't been back there since that day!" Patton ran down the hallway. Virgil rolled his eyes. Before they could enter the bathroom, the note was taped on the door. This was Logan's handwriting.

Your present will reside

Where Virgil is always beside.

"Where is Roman's dorm?" Patton asked almost immediately. Virgil smiled, and led Patton to the door. Virgil knocked a certain times and Roman opened the door.

"Virgil, Patton."

Princey. Virgil signed and Roman laughed.

"In you go." He said to Virgil and then turned back to Patton. "He put it somewhere I wasn't allowed to know." Roman told him. He heard Virgil jump down and then walk over to the door again.

Virgil came back with a small rose plant in a pot. The roses were red and the ribbon was baby blue, his favorite color. Roman pulled his note out of his pocket.

Roses are red

Violets are blue

Meet me where

I first met you.

Patton smiled. "Are you guys coming with?"

Virgil shook his head. Janus has Roman's brother to seduce and we are helping. He signed. Patton nodded.

"Have fun you two. I am going to put this in my room." Patton walked off. He heard the door close but he couldn't think to care. This was really cool, now he just had to rack his brain to where he first met Logan.

Virgil had moved in before everyone like Patton his first year so Patton didn't meet Logan there. They didn't have any classes together like Virgil and Logan. He got to their room and put the roses on the sil near the Logan plant. He saw there was potting soil and a few new pots on his bed and he smiled. Logan was smart but he didn't guess everything.

Then Patton remembered. They met at the dining room. Same table as they ate at all the time now. He blew a gust of air towards the flowers. They shimmered and were a bit brighter. He smiled at it, and then left their room. He skipped down the stairs and then made sure everything was all right before he stepped through the doors.

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Virgil had texted him telling him that he was going along with Patton for the ride. Logan smiled. He knew Patton wouldn't need help, but Patton would want to share this with his cousin.

Once they hit the library, Logan started pacing. He was up early today trying to make sure everything was right. Logan was waiting for Patton so they could have an indoor picnic for lunch and Patton was in charge of dinner.

He started to get nervous. The dining room wouldn't be used until later. He made sure that it would be empty for what he set up. He looked back at it. Under the table he had put a soft blanket and a few pillows. He was also sitting by the chair because he was so tall that even the table they sat at which was a little higher than most wouldn't fit him under it.

He asked the kitchen staff if he could use the kitchen and many other kids were doing the same thing for the holiday. He always thought Valentine's Day to be stupid and for commercial purposes. But now with Patton he was just happy to give him a fun thing to do for the day.

Virgil then texted him they made it to Roman's place. Patton would be on his way soon. He didn't panic, not yet. He straightened his shirt and fixed everything one last time before he heard the doors open and Patton came in.

"Logan?" Patton asked.

"Over here." Logan said. Patton smiled and ran over to him. Logan caught Patton when he jumped into Logan's arms. Patton kissed his cheek when Logan sat him down.

"Hi."

"Did you like the scavenger hunt?" Logan asked. Patton nodded.

"It was fun, can we do that every year?" Patton asked. Logan nodded.

"Sure, we can. But the best part is this." Logan stepped back and revealed the picnic. There was fairy lights from Virgil and the pillows were from Thomas' closet. Patton squealed and climbed underneath the table. Logan followed him and they had a small lunch before they cleaned up and ended up going back to their dorm where Patton smiled at the potting supplies Logan had given him.

They were going to repot the plants together if they needed to and Patton knew where he could keep them. After a few hours they both got ready for their dinner. Logan had given Virgil his fairy lights back once they finished their picnic.

Patton showered first and left a little note on the mirror for Logan. Logan showered after and wiped the message away. While he was getting ready he heard Roman talking with Virgil about his bed or something. Logan wasn't sure what they were doing but now was not the time to worry about Virgil and the possibility of Roman not being truthful.

He knows that Virgil can take care of himself and Roman seemed to be smart. That didn't stop Patton having some distortions on what Virgil could do. He wasn't showing any symptoms that he showed last time, as much as Logan could find comfort in that he knew it was a case to case basis.

He sighed and fixed his tie one last time. Patton was driving because he was planning the dinner. The scavenger hunt was a last minute idea when he realized that Patton was planning dinner. He was clever and Patton was too, in his own way. Logan didn't what to expect but Patton still wore semi casual clothes.

Logan walked out of the bathroom and saw that Patton had changed clothes. Instead of his long pants and polo shirt, he wore a knee length dress.

Baby blue.

Logan's face heated up. It wasn't like Logan didn't know about Patton's wardrobe, he did and Patton only wore dresses and skirts for special occasions. Logan was happy that dinner with Patton was deemed special enough for a dress. Patton perked up and smiled at Logan.

"Ready?" He asked excitedly.

"Yes, let's grab our coats and be on our way. Where are we going?" Logan asked. Pattton shook his head.

"I am not telling you." Patton slipped on a winter coat for himself and grabbed his keys. They made their way to the Toyota and backed out of the driveway. They saw the garage being opened while they drove away.

"I didn't know you father had plans tonight." Logan said to Pattton.

Patton looked in the rear view mirror. "Neither did I. I don't think he's driving though." Patton said. Logan looked back and watched the car. Logan had to agree.

"I think it might be Virgil." Logan said.

"Where would Virgil be going?" Patton asked.

"I am not sure, we could call him if that will pacify your anxiety." Logan suggested. Patton nodded.

Logan did and put him on speaker but Roman answered. "Isn't it a little rude to call a person who can't speak?" Roman said jokingly. Logan smiled. At least he had someone with him, he also revisited the urge to correct him. Virgil does speak. Just not to Roman.

"It is, but he will usually text a response. Or have someone whose answer is with him answer. I assume he's driving."

"That would be correct." Roman said.

"Kiddo, where are you guys headed?" Patton asked.

"Oh hey Padre, we are just running an errand. Virgil said he needed to pick something up and didn't want to do it alone. Aren't you guys going to dinner or something?" Roman said.

"Well, we are bu-" Patton started but Roman gasped and cut him off.

"Then what are you doing worrying about us? You guys need to enjoy your night! I can hold the fort down with Virgil-ow. That's not nice." Roman sighed. "Anyway as I was saying we can handle ourselves for a night. You guys have fun and stay safe." Roman said. They heard a gagging sound in the back, Roman laugh and start to say something then hung up.

"That was something." Logan said.

"They are dramatic aren't they?" Patton asked.

"Practically made for each other." Logan mumbled. Patton giggled.

"Lo, you know that they are taking it slow. Virgil has a firm belief and he's not budging. Despite our best efforts he remains unmoved. The best we can do is just wait for him to be ready, if it's with Roman then so be it. We don't know if Roman is coming back next year." Patton said.

"He has a few months to figure it out." Logan said. Patton sighed.

"Let's enjoy our dinner like Roman said okay? We can talk about this a little more tomorrow if you want." Patton said. Logan did want to talk about it but had the sneaking suspicion that Patton didn't want to.

Patton pulled up to a Cracker Barrel. Logan sighed and had a smile pulling at his lips. "Really?" He asked. Patton giggled and shrugged.

"It was the closest thing I could get to food from Georgia without actually driving down there with you, so we can pretend." Patton said. Logan and him got out of the car.

"It's just Cracker Barrel, I don't see why it would be an occasion to wear a dress." Logan said. Pattton smiled at him, Logan was glad he didn't take offense to what he had said. To others it could come across as rude.

Patton stopped walking and stood in front of Logan. "It's Valentine's Day and I am on a date with you. It's the most special occasion we have right now. We could go somewhere else if you want to." Logan smiled. He shook his head and leaned down to give Patton a kiss. Patton accepted happily but pulled away too soon for Logan's liking.

"We should really get going inside." Patton said. Logan smiled and nodded. He didn't want to but he also didn't want Patton to get too cold. He followed Patton into the restaurant and the rest of the night went well.

Patton tried to get his accent out of him all night and around the middle of their main course Logan suddenly dropped into his southern accent when he was talking to Patton which made him blush.

Logan smiled at that. When they got out of the restaurant after Patton beat Logan to pay, Patton said something to him that Logan didn't expect.

"You only do that for me right? The southern accent?" Logan smiled and kissed his nose.

"Only you Darlin' why would I for anyone else?" Logan asked.

Patton shook his head and smiled.
