《Things Left Unspoken (SandersSidesAU)》Chapter Forty-One

Remus didn't tell his parents that he was going to Westward. He didn't think they would have an issue with him going to see Roman, it was just that visiting day was coming up in March. Hell, he wasn't going Westward for Roman. It was for Virgil. March is when he was supposed to see Roman. It seemed iolsating but he knew people got around it by going into town and having lunch.

The youngest in that school was thirteen, they really needed their parents so it made sense that people would find their way around somethings. At least, Remus thought so. The visitation was one thing they could easily find their way around. They just knew he would be back late and probably climb in through his window, or crash at a friend's place. Remus wasn't sure what Virgil wanted but he was going to find out.

Remus had gotten up around noon that day, he always stayed up late but since Roman left he had been having trouble sleeping. He was in Roman's room but he was sleeping in there less often, but it was still hard. Remus had figured that he would have to deal with separation later and that was after a summer of being together until the winter break, in some ways it was better he dealt with it now rather than later. He asked himself what would Roman want from his room but then just left it be. He couldn't guess his brother's mind too well but well enough. Roman could always figure out what he was thinking, in some ways it felt unfair to Remus but then he was reminded that his rap sheet would be a whole lot worse if Roman didn't step in. He missed Roman. He dragged himself out of bed and to the bathroom.

He showered and got dressed. He wore dark jeans and a green shirt. He texted Virgil and told him that he might be running a little behind. He got his jackets and his wallet then he slid down the stairs.

"Someone is giddy this morning." He heard Gloria from the dining room. Remus smiled and walked in.

"Of course I am, Virgil asked me to visit. I assume my parents are at the office?" Remus asked her. Gloria shook her head and threw him his keys.

"They said to tell you that but I suspect that they are going away for the weekend. They left this morning. Should I expect you tomorrow?" She asked.

Since Roman moved away, Gloria really had stepped up and became his rock. She was nice though and helped a lot. She didn't mind that he was in the basement a lot and would bring him snacks when he locked himself in there while doing a project. That's what she did for him while he was working on Virgil's canvas. Then again, Remus wanted to impress the guy who was friends with Roman. Just friends, he was assured but Remus suspected otherwise. But no one could replace Roman though. Remus shrugged.

"I am not sure to be honest. I'll let you know tonight. With Roman and Virgil anything is possible." Remus said.

"Has he finally asked Virgil out?" Gloria asked.

Remus shook his head. "Roman's a bit of a pussy when it comes to love." Gloria hit him lightly and shook her head.

"Watch your mouth."

"Nah, anyway I already talked with Virgil about past relationships because I was having a time with that kid if you remember." Remus told her.

"Ah yes, the one who stood outside when it snowed because he didn't understand that you were not interested despite you being so very clear." Gloria said, he suspected she was being a little sarcastic but he didn't care. Remus nodded. It was something like that. Remus had slept with the guy and he thought that meant Remus was interested in a relationship. Remus did not do relationships, they were messy and he had to rely on someone other than himself and Roman.

That shit was dangerous in his opinion. But still, he assumed that Remus was interested in him.

Granted he went a district away and he doesn't have the reputation over there, but still.

He didn't leave for three days. "Yeah, I was telling Virgil about it and he was giving me really good advice so I asked him if he got around," Gloria hit him again. "But he said he didn't and never had a boyfriend. When I asked him why because if we are honest he's adorable-"

"Watch it." Gloria told him.

"I would never do that to my brother, I am a gentleman Gloria," Gloria shook her head and he continued. "Also he said that he wasn't going to have one until he could talk again." Remus said.

"I thought he was deaf, had hearing aid, but just didn't like to talk." Gloria said.

"No, he's selectively mute. But I gotta go if I want to make it on time. I'll let you know if I am coming back!" Remus left the house and saw his parents car was gone. He slipped into his car which he had cleaned out. He didn't want to smell like pot going into a boarding school.

They had to have people for that.

He wasn't even sure how he was going to get in but he was given directions and to tell the security guard something that would direct him in the right way. Remus wasn't sure what this visit would bring.

Why did Virgil want to see him? He liked Roman, that was very clear but why call Remus down for Valentine's Day. Was he planning something for his brother and needed his help? Whatever it was, he was going to face it with enough bravery.

Would he see Janus again? They had been texting back and forth a few times and Remus did like his style. He was funny to Remus, also it was funny to watch his brother get territorial over Virgil but Janus had agreed to help him he the two of them together.

No one else could see it but Remus knew. And Roman knew Remus knew. Of course Remus knew. They were twins, they had been together since before birth, they were close.

Three hours later, he pulled up to the gate which was blocked. The guard got out and asked him to roll his window down. The heat was blasting and Remus was warm but he needed to get to Virgil.

He made a promise and Kingsleys don't break promises.

"Can I help you today?" The guard asked.

"Yes, hi, I am looking for Thomas Sanders' apartment. I have something from his brother." Remus told him.

"Is it important?" He asked. "I don't see you here on the list." He said.

"It was very last minute and it's meant to be a surprise. If you ask his nephew, Virgil, he should know." Remus said.

The security guard pondered. "I am letting you in just this once, but I gotta say Virgil is getting better at this."

"What do you mean?" Remus asked.

"I am not going to tell anyone, but clearly you are Roman's brother. Nice kid, you do look very much alike. I am just messing with you, Virgil told me you were coming and I had to conduct this like any other visitor so I don't get in trouble. He sneaks people in here for students all the time. You are all set, put this on your rear view mirror and go to the building near the front of the school where the round parking lot is. If you follow the road all the way down, you will see a white Toyota. That's Patton's car, park next to him." Remus nodded and was let in. He hung the placard on his mirror.

He didn't know what it meant but people didn't question him from then on out. Behind the school was a large garage that had a bus barn, several vans, and another garage that he assumed was for Virgil and his uncle's car. He texted Virgil and waited in the car. He shut it off, it was cold but three hours of driving allowed the car to be warm enough to hold heat.

He also had the heat blaring for a lot of the ride. He likes summer better than the cold but he'd put up with it. He saw Virgil poke his head from behind a door, Remus smiled and got out of the car.

"Virgil!!" He yelled. Virgil smiled and waved. "Where are we going?" He asked once he got inside the building.

My dorm, I have a few things I need to get done. Virgil signed. Remus nodded.

"So any reason for this visit?" He asked. Virgil shrugged. He wasn't going to get anything out of Virgil, especially not with Roman around. Remus followed him rambling about the guy he was seeing. It wasn't serious but Remus had fun, and Virgil listened well. At least Remus thought so.

Are you sure you are even interested? Virgil signed.

"Of course not, I am just having him and dropping once we get far enough in. Besides, I am waiting for my one true love." Remus said.

Who would that be, Roman? Virgil asked. Remus could see his smirk when he signed it. He did sounds similar to his brother in that regard.

"First of all, no. Second of all, Nah. Thirdly, mothman." Remus answered. Virgil choked and tried to contain himself as he opened the door to his room.

I can't believe you just said that. Virgil signed. Remus laughed and sat on the couch.

"Are we still on for going ghost hunting before you leave for the year?" Remus asked.

Leave for the year?

"Yeah, like when you go home. From this fortress. Maybe we could come visit you this time!" Remus said. Virgil shook his head.

I live here. My uncle has custody of me.

"Oh. So we can go in the summer!" Remus could tell the reason why he lived at school wasn't a topic that was to be shared so he left it alone. He was good at that, he just acted without caution to battle his own over cautious thinking.

I guess. Virgil said.

"Where's Roman? Aren't you always with him?" Remus asked. He had received several pictures on Snapchat of Roman with Virgil. So the fact he wasn't here was suspicious to Remus.

I am not always with him, he's on his way. I woke up a few minutes before you got here.

"You slept that late?" Remus asked.

I was busy.

"With?"

None of your business.

"Virgil, you know I love these outings we do but why did you have to-oh hi Remus." Roman said as he walked in.

"Outings?" Remus asked with a smile.

"We are running errands for his uncle." Roman checked the time on his phone. "Which reminds me, I got this." Roman handed Virgil a piece of fabric.

Virgil nodded and then inspected it. Remus was confused but didn't ask. Virgil gave him a thumbs up and then put it on the bed. Remus was having fun watching them.

"It works?" Virgil nodded and rolled his eyes.

So, we are going somewhere but it's a surprise. Roman needs your keys.

"Why?" Remus asked.

"He said it was a surprise." Roman said.

"You know what he said?" Remus asked.

"I picked up a few phrases he says often. I know when he spells my name, my roommate's, his cousin's, the color blue-"

"Why blue?" Remus interrupted.

It's a code word for me getting uncomfortable. Anyway, keys? Remus handed them to Roman. Okay, so I am going to be driving because I know where the place is so no talking. And you are going to be blindfolded.

"Kinky."

Don't make it weird.

"Too late." Both twins said. Virgil looked between them and shook his head. Remus took the blindfold and tested it a few times.

"I can't see." Remus said.

"That's the point."

"That sounds like it was from Virgil." Remus told his brother.

"Because it was. Time to go." Roman led him through the hallways and he got in the car. He heard the drivers door close and they were off.

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

He sat in the driver's seat nervous. He was going through with the surprise for Remus and with the help of Roman it would work, but he had been warned.

Remus does have a reputation to sleep around but so did Roman. If he could get Remus to say yes to a few things then maybe they could work. He knew Virgil told Remus that he couldn't talk but that didn't stop him from rambling.

"Well, I was at school and you wouldn't believe the crazy shit that went down. Like I was told not to but I swung anyway and Pranks had my back. He drop kicked the motherfucker and holy shit it was great. Best fight I have ever gotten into. And I was never caught." Remus said.

Janus tried not to make any sound. He was too wrapped up in trying not to let Remus know it was him. Remus was a ball of energy, but he was a little confused. Janus pulled over to the side of the road. He got out and then closed the door. He left a note that was from Virgil in case Remus got curious.

He sighed and leaned on the car. He just had to breathe. It was just dinner and a movie. He could do this. Remus like horror movies and Janus particularly didn't care. He watched them Virgil all the time. He got back in the car and Remus had taken the blindfold off.

"I see you got curious." Janus said to him. Remus shrugged.

"You could say that. Where are we going?" Remus asked.

"Movie and dinner, if you want it." Janus told him.

"If you are my date then yes, yes I do." Remus said.

Janus nodded and started the car again. "Great this would be really awkward otherwise."

The two walked out of the movie theater laughing. "You can't do that!" Janus said.

Remus shrugged. "Who said?"

"Ummm, politeness? Society?" Janus said.

"You must have me and my brother confused because I am not polite. Like at all." Remus said. "Also if it was so bad why are you laughing? And who said you are supporter of society? You must be a anarchist of some kind." Janus rolled his eyes at that comment.

"It was funny!" Janus defended. Remus had gone around to different couples in the theater and then yelled to scare them during the movie. It was a wonder why they didn't get caught or kicked out. Janus was glad, he couldn't get in trouble with the police in a county where he was supposed to be getting better.

"Which is why I did it, now dinner time right? Can we go to IHOP?" Remus asked. Janus was surprised by the change of pace with Remus. It was a little difficult to keep up with his train of thought. Remus seemed to be glad that someone other than Roman was giving him that benefit.

"If that's where you want to go then we can go there." Janus said.

"Great, I am paying." Remus got the keys from Janus' belt and hopped in the driver's side.

"What? No, that's not part of the plan." Janus said.

Remus made a sound and then shrugged. "Why stick to plans? They are rigid and boring most of the time. Come on, get in and let me take you there." Remus told him. Remus would probably hate Logan, but Remus did have a curiosity that many people didn't have so Logan might appreciate a little bit more than most.

"Do you know where you are going?" He asked. Remus shrugged.

"I'll find it eventually." Remus said. And he was right, not even ten minutes later they were pulling into an IHOP.

"How the hell did you do that?" Janus asked. "I didn't even know this was here."

"I can find an IHOP or Denny's within a ten mile radius. It's a talent." Remus got out of the car.

Janus was a little shocked. "Are you serious about paying?" Janus asked.

"Dude, you got both my brother and his not-really-totally-going-to-be boyfriend to lie to me and plan this out. I have to keep it interesting. The blindfold was a nice touch though." Remus told him. They got a table for two ad sat down.

"This is not where I thought we'd end up to be quite honest." Janus said.

"I knew." Remus said.

"Really?" Janus asked. Remus nodded.

"You and Virgil have different ways of getting in the car." Janus looked at him confused. "What? I am low key a criminal, I gotta be aware of everything."

"What do you mean by that?" Janus said.

"Calm down, it's just tagging and smoking pot. I never really got in trouble for it, despite my best efforts." Remus told him.

"You were trying to get in trouble?"Janus asked. Remus nodded.

"Roman gave me all his time, and even handed over his personality for me. I was going to do something for him and try and leave but he wouldn't let me. I love my brother but sometimes I wish he didn't take the fall all the time." Remus told him.

"Oh." Janus said.

"What?" Remus asked. Janus shook his head, he had an apology to give Roman before he could even think about dating Remus. And that meant he had to do it soon. If Roman told him what Janus had said a lot of the times when they fought, Remus would hand him his ass.

Remus doesn't look weak at all, not that Janus had noticed or anything. And Janus really liked him. He was screwed if Remus found out about all of their interactions in the beginning of the year.

"Nothing. I just remembered something." Janus said.

"I assume Roman gave you that punch I told him to give you?" Remus said.

"What?" Janus was panicking now.

"Virgil spilled one night when he stayed with us. Not to mention Roman tells me everything, soo I knew." Remus said.

"You aren't mad?" Janus asked. Remus shook his head.

"Roman can take care of himself, I believe in him to make amends. I wouldn't still be here if I was mad. I don't put myself in my brother's business, I am not that nosy." Remus said.

"Yes, you would. You would want a free meal." Janus said to him.

"But I am paying this time around. So, what does that say?" Remus asked.

"I really don't know." Janus said. Remus smiled.

"You're cute when you panic." Remus told him. "You are cute a lot of the time to be honest."

"My roommate isn't here this weekend, do you want to stay over?" Janus asked. Remus raised an eyebrow. He put down his menu and looked at Janus.

"Listen sweetheart, I am all down for that kind of night but right now let's not think about that." Remus told him.

"Not like that, at least not yet. Sleepover tonight, just to stay." Janus said.

"Alright, I guess I could try." Remus said.

"Try?" Janus asked.

"I don't think you know how close my brother and I are, do you?"

"Why don't you tell me then?" Janus asked him, Remus smiled.

"Alright, fine. It really started around middle school..."
