《TNS Piper's Problems》Chapter 12: The final push

Piper's POV:
After coming to terms with my plan, I wore some comfortable sweats and sat down again, in my spinning chair, as I went through what I was about to do.
I don't want to hurt anyone but I know that they won't really care. I'm just holding them all back and I can't be a burden any longer.
I think that James and Riley must've heard their voicemails because they've been non-stop spamming my phone with missed calls, missed facetimes and unread messages.
I also think that they may have talked to my dad and brothers about it because as I walked downstairs and headed for the front door, the three of them stood there with sad, guilty looks on their faces.
"Piper, please. We're sorry, I'm sorry- for everything. I don't know what voicemail thing James was talking about but please forgive me, forgive us. I-" My dad started as all of them begged for my forgiveness, but I cut him off with a scoff. "Too little, too late." I seethed before turning around and dashing out of the back door, as I locked it from the outside and began to run.
I took as many shortcuts as I could remember, trying to make sure that no one would find me. Finally, after 20 minutes of running, I came to a motorway. I sighed in relief at the sight of it as I realised that I was getting closer to my destination.
As I tried to cross the motorway, narrowly avoiding cars and their loud horns, which were messing with my senses, I came to the last lane that I had to cross, in order to get to the other side. A large truck was headed straight for me; it was swaying between the lines and it was speeding.
I was paralysed by fear but then I realised that maybe, this is how I go. So I squeezed my eyes shut and braced myself for impact but it never came.
Instead, I heard the screeching of wheels and a huge crash. I turned around to see that the truck had crashed onto the side if the motorway; luckily, this was the last lane and no one else got hurt. Minutes later, multiple ambulances and police cars arrived at the scene. I was checked over and a cop came to talk to me.

"Hello, are you alright?" He asked as I gave him a shaky nod. "Um is... is that person okay?" I asked, nervously. That guy swerved in order to not hit me, so if he's injured, it would be all my fault. "Afraid not. He died on scene." The officer said in a sad tone as I have a small nod. "So I killed him." I stated in a small voice. I guess I really am a murderer; they were all right.
"No, no sweetheart, you didn't kill anybody. He was going to crash sooner or later as he was drunk and highly intoxicated. It's just a miracle that he managed to swerve you, I don't know how he did that. But no, it's not your fault, and you harmed no one." He assured me. "What was his name?" I asked softly. "His name was Billy Archer." He replied, equally as soft, as I nodded again and waved goodbye, before going on my way again.
I can't believe that, that man, Billy, saved my life; a bit ironic, don't you think? But there's no saving me now. I've got to do this.

After about 10 more minutes, I finally reached my destination.
A bridge.
Taking deep breaths, I swung one leg over the railing and then the other, before balancing on a small ledge that stretched out, just a bit, until it overlooked the lake below.
You know, after spiders, heights are definitely on my list of fears, so I panicked as I stood on the tall ledge, but I calmed myself down by taking deep breaths and telling myself that this was the right thing to do.
As I leaned forward to gaze upon the blue lake, I heard a voice that I could recognise anywhere. "Piper!" He yelled.
"James?" I whispered. Why was he here? I turned around to see him and Riley sprinting towards the bridge.
"What are you doing here?" I asked gently, tilting my head to the side. "Piper, please come off of the ledge. You're gonna fall." He said, panicked as I just stared at him. That was the whole point.

"I can't." I whispered. "Please Pipes. You don't have to do this. Tell me what's wrong." He urged. "I...I-" I started, as I saw my dad and my brothers run out from a parked car, behind them. I glared at them before turning back to James and Riley.
"Ask them." I responded. "What did you guys do?!" James asked, yelling at them as he turned around to face them. "Well... we... I... um..." My dad stammered as Riley rolled her eyes. "P, what did they do?" She asked me softly.
"They...they told me that no one wanted me around and that it should've been me in the grave. So I'm just giving people what they want." I mumbled looking down, as I immediately regretted it, seeing the vast lake below me.
"What the hell?! Why would you guys say something like that?!" James yelled. "Was it just this one time?" He asked, turning back to me as I shook my head. "It never stopped, even when you and Ri talked to them." I answered quietly.
"Oh, Pipes. You should've told me. I'm sorry that I wasn't there when you were hurting." He replied, as I began to feel guilty. I didn't want anyone to feel bad or to feel the need to apologise.
"I didn't want to bother anyone, but don't worry, James. I know you probably blamed me too; you don't need to hide it from me anymore." I whispered.
"No, Pipes. I never blamed you. Please, just, don't do this. You have me and Riley and A troupe. We all love you, so please come back." He stated as I gently shook my head at him.
I turned back around to face the lake, contemplating what to do. I could jump or I could turn around and go home.

"Don't do it, Piper. It's not worth it. There are people who love and care about you, so just turn around and go back to them. Please." The angel on my shoulder pleaded.
"Please Piper, don't listen to them. So many people want you here, including me. I love you, we all love you so damn much!" James called out to me.
It almost worked as I turned back around to face my family, and I took a step forward.
The devil on my other shoulder countered. I didn't know who to listen to anymore.
"That's not true. They really do care about you and love you. If you go back to them, then they could prove it to you. Your father and brothers want a second chance. They could make things right and you'd be happy again."
"Please don't do this, Pipes." James called out again. I was so lost in thought that I didn't even notice him inching closer to me, trying to snap me out of my dangerous thoughts.
"No, it's not. They love you and that's why they're fighting for you. Don't jump, just go back to them; go back to James and Riley!"
"I...I-" I stuttered, not knowing which side to choose in my internal battle.
"Don't do it."
"Don't do it."
"Piper, don't do it! Please! Think it through."
And that was the final push I needed. Every other logical thought disappeared and I knew what I had to do.
Turning around, I took shaky breaths in, clenching and unclenching my fists as salty tears ran down my face.
James leaned forward as his hand brushed against my arm, but it was too late.
I had already jumped...

The Fate of The Summoned (being ReWritten)
The Fate of The Summoned In the world of Aethion things are vastly different than on Earth. There is Magic and Monsters, as well as Demons and Dragons. Throughout the history of the world there have been many wars, both between all the various nations and kingdoms and between those nations and kingdoms and the Demonic forces lead by a Demon King or Lord. There are times that the Demons gain so much more power than the other nations, or that the others are embroiled in a war against each other and the lone nation is targeted by the demons. It was during these occasions that the various Gods and Goddesses started giving two things to the races. The First of these things were the Blessings, magical blessings given to the worth for chosen things. The Second of these things were the Summoning rituals, magic rituals that could summon beings from somewhere else, that would be Chosen, by the gods. These beings have almost always come from our world, Earth. It has been centuries since this practice began and the countries of the world have almost always flourished for a time after a Chosen or group of them were Summoned. All of the countries treat the Summoned well, almost like kings or princes in their own right. Well, not all countries, there are some that have treated them almost like slaves, though those countries don’t usually last long. There is one though, that has lasted, for a long time due to their connection to their Patron Deity, the Goddess of Light. They only accept certain types of Summoned and they dote on certain members of the country more than others. Several years ago they performed a summoning, as they were being plagued by overflow from the dungeons. Now they, like the other countries of Aethion, have performed the ritual to fight against the current Demon King, who is said to possess a Blessing. This is a story about Fate, and those that fight against it and those who accept it. In this story the main character(s) do not fight their fate, like those in my other story, rather they embrace it and let it shape them, though that does not mean they are total slaves to it. While there will be similarities to most other Hero sumoning novels, i hope the Mcs abilities and such will make it unique.
