《Edge of Glory | Supergirl 1》Chapter 40

Leah flew into Kara's apartment, "You see all of them too right? Winn just got up and left the apartment while we were havi-"
"Ew." Kara lifted her hand up, "Don't finish that sentence." Kara was having such a good day, she was able to get Barry home and she kissed James.
"Where's Katie?"
Kara looked back to Katie's room, "She never left."
Leah stormed into her room, making Katie jump from her bed, "Why? I was sleeping."
"Whatever it is, it's not affecting her."
"What?" Katie got out of the bed, still in her Yoda pajamas, "What's going on?"
"Look outside."
Katie tilted her head, walking over to her window to see people walking in rows down the street, "What the..." She turned to them, "We need to get to the DEO."
"Yeah."
Katie had to pull her suit on before she jumped out of the window behind them. Her eyes fell down to all of the people, "Is this happening to everyone?"
"I think." Leah answers, "We just need to get to the DEO and hope they're not affected."
Katie landed inside, hearing that the containment doors were going to open, "Oh my God."
Leah turned around with Kara when they hear footsteps, Leah blew her freeze breath, "Early parole is canceled."
"I'm gonna try and deactivate the prisoner release," Katie called out, running to the computer. Kara flew forward into the woman, pushing her away. Leah ran up and round kicked her, but Maxima blocked it. She swung her fist up causing Leah to fly into the roof and drop back down on the rubble. Before Maxima could slam her heel on Leah's face, Kara swung her foot and flipped her on the table.
Maxima chuckles, "That tickles." She swung her legs around, making Kara fall, "We could have been family, Kara Zor-El. I once sought to make your cousin my mate."
"Ew. Gross." Leah side kicks her into the wall with all her strength, making Maxima drop to the floor.
Kara groaned when a kryptonite bullet pierced her skin, she grabbed Leah quickly, pulling her behind something. Katie jumped, hiding behind the desks, but it made it impossible for her to type. "Lucy! You have to fight it. You have to wake up!"
Katie got up in time to see Kara use her own ship to knock them out. Katie groaned, heating up the machine until it exploded under her hands.
"Containment override deactivated. Prisoner cell release canceled."
Leah ran over to Lucy, "Oh God..."
"Lucy, I am so sorry." Kara looked over at Katie, "We need to find Clark."
"Fortress of Solitude." Leah answers, "Guess you get to see it, Katie."

Katie flew behind them, landing inside, her feet was slightly melting the ground, "Well, ice wasn't the best idea for me." She breathed in and out until her powers calmed down and were able to walk without melting the floor.
"Kelex? Kelex, are you here?"
A small floating robot flew over, "How may I assist you, Lady Kara?"
"Where is Kal-El? We can't find him anywhere on Earth."
"Kal-El is attending to a matter off-world."
Leah sighs, "Kelex, we need you to tell us about Myriad."
"Warning. This construct is not authorized to discuss Myriad."
Katie stepped forward, squinting at the small robot, "You were designed to obey the members of the Honorable House of El, and to preserve the memory of Krypton wherever it went. If you don't override your orders, Myriad will destroy the House of El and the memory of Krypton will be lost forever. You will have failed in your prime directive." Leah was surprised to see that Katie knew such things, but then she remembered how Katie's consciousness and memories merged with her own.
"Please." Kara begged, "Please! I just need someone to help me!"
A hologram appeared after Kelex had left, "Hello Kara, Ka."
"Mom!"
"Myriad was developed on Krypton by your aunt. It was created to prevent the planet's imminent destruction. We had strangled the planet's resources beyond recovery. The politicians argued, but could not agree on what to do. Thus, according to high records, Astra implemented her own solution. Myriad. Technology designed to force everyone to her way of thinking."
Leah's shoulders dropped, "Mind control."
"When they were caught attempting to use the Myriad technology against the people of Argo City, Astra and Non were arrested."
"And sentenced to Fort Rozz." Kara finished, "That's what they've been trying to do all along. They've been trying to use Myriad on Earth. To save the planet. But I don't understand. Why is everyone so afraid to talk about it? Why wouldn't you even speak of it?"
"Myriad could be used to enslave whole worlds at the push of a button. The High Council determined that if knowledge of such technology were to get out, it would upset the delicate balance of power of the galaxy."
Kara looked to the floor, then back up, "Mom, please. You have to tell us how to stop this."
"I am sorry, my dear Kara. Once started, Myriad cannot be stopped."
🎆~🎆~🎆~🎆~🎆
The three heroes landed outside of CatCo, Katie walked in, "Winn?" She looked at the screen, able to read the words, "That's Kryptonian."
Kara walked back to her, "What is Non up to?" Kara ran off in search for James.
Leah looked around the room, "Everyone's typing codes in Kryptonian..."

Kara came running back, looking up as the TV sparked to the news, "The United States Army has taken up position at every entrance way into National City. Until this threat is neutralized, National City has effectively been quarantined."
Katie pulled out her phone, almost glad to has DEO contacts on it, "This is General Lane."
"It's Solar Flare."
"How's Lucy?"
"She's alive." Katie breathes out, "She's safe."
"She's enthralled to Non's master weapon, isn't she?"
Katie sighs, glancing at Kara and Leah as they listened to her conversation, "Yes. Listen, you need to keep everybody outside of city limits until I can figure this out, okay? I know you and the three of us haven't always had the best work relationship, but..."
"I'll do my part. I trust you three will do yours. Good luck."
"Ker-rah, call Harrison Ford and tell him that I'm flattered, but once and for all, I do not date older men, especially when they're married."
"Mom," Leah calls out, running over and giving her a hug.
"Oh!" Cat looks at the other heroes in the room, "Leah, you're back." Her eyes move to Supergirl and Solar Flare, "And what a pleasant surprise. What, do we have a 9:00 a.m.?"
Leah grabbed her mother's shoulders, "You're not a mindless drone."
"Uh, no. No, I learned that lesson when Demi Moore and I wore the same dress to the premiere of Ghosts. Never again."
"Mom." Leah groans out, "Listen to me. Everyone in the city is affected by this alien signal. They're acting like automatons."
Katie looked at her funny, "Haven't you noticed?"
Cat looked up at her employees, "Hmm, well, yes, they are a bit more quiet than usual. Maybe my reign of terror has finally reached its peaked effectiveness." Kara's phone pings, she lifted her phone up. Cat looks at it, "Oh. Ah, you do have a cell phone? Can I get that number, please?"
"It's Superman."
"Oh, can I get his number as well?"
"Mom, he's my cousin."
Cat shrugged, "Hmm?"
"He's coming to help." Kara ran out to the veranda, everyone else chasing behind her, even Miss Grant was walking faster.
"He is?"
"Where is he?"
Cat looked over the edge, "Oh, my God. What's happening to everyone?"
"There he is! There he is!" Kara points out.
"Who? Superman? Where?"
Leah watched as her cousin dropped down, "What? What? Oh, God. No."
"What is it?"
"Myriad." Leah looked back at her mom, "It's affecting my cousin too."
"Myriad?" Cat questions, "Wait a minute, if it's affecting Superman, then are any of us safe?"
"Well, I may not be Superman, but..." Max walked over to them, "I do have my moments."
Katie rolled her eyes, "You've got to be kidding me."
🎆~🎆~🎆
"Do Kryptonians gloat? Because I'll bet wherever he is, ol' Uncle Non is feeling pretty good about himself."
Cat leaned against her chair in her office, "Why am I not surprised that your brain is intact, Max? What is it they say? Only cockroaches will survive the apocalypse."
"Happy to see you too, Cat." Max mused, "You look lovely, considering the end is nigh."
"Why weren't you affected?" Leah questions, her arms crossing over her face, almost disgusted that Max openly flirted with her mother in front of her.
"Ion blockers. I realized the Kryptonians were using my LTE interface system. That's why they broke into my lab over Christmas. They're using my satellites to send neural signals directly into the minds of everyone in National City. These scramble the signal before they reach my brain."
Katie shook her head, "If you invented technology that blocks Myriad, why didn't you give it to the DEO?"
"Once Henshaw and his Trusted Girl Friday stepped down, I had no one at the DEO to trust."
Cat set her bag down on her desk, "Well, clearly, not everybody needs this ear-wig thingy, because I don't have one and my brain is perfectly intact. And isn't Solar Flare born a human, only a mutant? Wouldn't she be affected as well?"
"Solar Flare." Max pointed at her, "Merged her brain with the one and only Captain Marvel, giving her a brain much more like an alien." He turned back to Cat a grin on his face, "I see you got the earrings I sent you last night."
Cat clicks her tongue, "Oh, I get it. Ion blockers in the diamonds?"
"Mm-hmm."
"Oh, so many karats yet so functional."
"Didn't seem right for the world to lose Cat Grant's mind." He stroked her cheek before turning around, "Speaking of, where is your faithful assistant? Out marching with the masses? Or your precious daughter?"
Cat's eyes flickered to Leah, sighing, "Don't be glib, Max. Probably should be worried about them."
"If it only targets humans-" Leah glances over at Max, "Why was my cousin affected?"
"Nature versus nurture. He may be an alien, but your cousin grew up on Earth. Seems like environmental factors, being raised by ordinary people, made his brain more human. The Man of Steel brought to his knees all because he went to kindergarten and watched Sesame Street."
Katie squinted at him, "You think this is funny?"
Max slowly got closer to her, "Everything I have feared has come to pass. I couldn't be more serious."
Katie took a step away from him, "We have to stop them. They're using your satellites. Can't you reprogram them and destroy Myriad from the inside?"
"I tried." Max moved away from her as well, "There's some pretty epic force fields around those satellites at the moment."
"You're always 10 steps ahead, Max. I know you have a plan."
"Of course I do." Max smiles, "We kill them all."

{The Dragon Within} (Completed)
Meeting his fate at the hands of seven great heroes, the wicked drake now stands in Death's hall. Met with the Grim Reaper itself. Defeated and its pride broken, the drake doesn’t beg or grovel, it simply awaits judgement. It waits for the God of the afterlife to send it on its way, to either the heights of bliss and peace or where it knew it would be sent. The depths of agony and torture, the halls of Tartarus, the father of monsters. Grim looked up from its oaken desk and down at the creature that would have otherwise, if grown wiser and older, matched the reaper itself in power. Its faceless guise, hidden by a black hood and whirling shadows, it briefly stared at the drake. “You are unfit for the sky yet also too fit for the abyss,” Grim spoke, its voice a cracking whisper. “Your time came too soon, the actions you have taken will lead your world to ruin…Be reborn, pitiful serpent. Yet remember what you have done, see what your actions have made that realm into. Let me show you, how your greed and gluttony have warped such a wonderful place and time.” Grim raised its black-feathered pen towards the beast “Be reborn, as the weak pitiful creature you should have been born as. Take this both as a punishment and…a learning experience. For failure, can be the best teacher.” The drake took a step back, hoping to escape this cruel fate. Yet none escaped Death, less so its embodiment. Screaming shadows engulfed his form, ripping away at his body and shape. Fangs of darkness sinking deep into his draconic flesh, warping it, changing him into something else… Opening his eyes, the wicked drake felt none of its power, none of its magic and none of its might. As it stood at the edge of a cliff, looking down upon a ruined valley of rot and miasma. It glanced down at itself, seeing none of its sturdy scales or sharp claws. The drake had been reborn... As a Human. Will also be posting on CreativeNovels found here; CrN Where chapters will be posted earlier than RRL.
