"Director Henshaw, I need to talk to you please."

Katie walks beside him, "Yeah, something bad has happened to Kara."

"We know. She was acting strangely. Distracted. We thought it was personal at first, but then she let an alien fugitive escape."

"Wait." Katie pauses, "She let it go?"

Hank breathes in, "Pull up the missions Supergirl has run in the last 48 hours."

"The fire."

"Run a thermodynamic scan."

"Look at the radiation signature." Alex says, "That's kryptonite."

"Not exactly. It's synthetic. It's manmade."

Katie stared at the screen, "Well, it's close to the real thing, but whoever made it, didn't get it quite right."

James glanced at her, "Meaning what?"

"It's not damaging her on a cellular level. But it could explain the erratic behavior. Who the hell would make Kryptonite?"

"Yeah, that's my bad."

"Are you fucking kidding me?" Katie groans out, her eyes falling on Maxwell Lord.

"Come on. This isn't necessary. I came here to help." Alex shoved him into one of the cells, "I didn't even know Kryptonite was a thing."

"Until we showed you."

"When we took down Bizarro."

"I went through all that trouble to create her, when all this time, right in front of me, was a substance whose sole molecular purpose was to kill Kryptonians. Sort of ironic."

James shook his head, "You're out of your mind."

"I'm only practical. Non and his army will return. Soon. So, I took matters into my own hands."

"You've recreated Kryptonite."

"Tried to." Max corrects Alex, "I just didn't get it right."

"The satellite on that rooftop was yours." Katie pointed at him, "You set a trap for Non."

"The fire, that was an accident. I never meant to endanger any firefighters, any civilians. Not even Supergirl."

James glared at him, "So, you figured if you booby-trapped a satellite, then your Kryptonite would kill Non just in case you went to go check on it?"

"It didn't work exactly as planned."

"It never does with you."

"I didn't know Supergirl would show up or that be she's affected by the synthetic K in such a surprising-"

"You're right." Katie snapped, "You just thought it would kill her."

"When I realized Supergirl had been exposed, I started tracking her to see what the Red Kryptonite would do to her. I saw her let the alien escape. I didn't know what to think. And then tonight, she threw Cat Grant off her building."

"She killed Miss Grant?" Katie questions, her face twisting in shock, voice rising.

"No. Cat has nine lives. She's fine."

"But Supergirl isn't."

"I'm sorry, Alex. I came in to make this right. I created Red Kryptonite. Maybe I can create an antidote."

"You better hope so, for National City's sake. Because you just turned Supergirl into the monster you always feared she'd be."

Katie walked into Cat's office, "Ms. Grant what's going on?"

"Supergirl has completely gone off the rails. And I have to publicly denounce her as a villain."

Winn stumbled on his words, "Ms. Grant, Supergirl's not a... Not a villain."

"That doesn't change anything. People are in danger and the public needs to be warned."

James knelt by her, "Ms. Grant, look. I am sure that Supergirl is gonna be fine soon. But if you denounce her, it's not gonna matter. She'll have lost the city's trust."

"She threw me off of a balcony. I fell 40 stories. I was a few feet away from splattering onto the pavement when she flew down and caught me on a whim. Now, I appreciate that you are trying to cure her, but at this moment, can you guarantee me that the public is safe? Can you guarantee that any of us are safe? No." Cat sighed, turning around to her desk. She sat down, nodding to the camera man, "Citizens of National City, this is Cat Grant, live from Catco Plaza. As you all know, I have been Supergirl's most outspoken champion. So, you can imagine how difficult it is for me to tell you that I and Catco can no longer stand behind Supergirl. I made you trust her. I gave you my word that she was safe, a friend. I was wrong. Supergirl has changed. She is unstable and extremely dangerous. She threw me off of a building last night and threatened my life and... Who knows what else she is capable of? It's not easy being let down by our idols. Having someone who embodies our heroic ideals helps us believe that we can be heroes, too. Sometimes heroes fall. So, please, for your own safety, stay away from Supergirl. And pray, that Solar Flare will be there. Okay, that's enough. Turn it off." Cat says, looking at everyone, "Play it on a loop. Everyone needs to know." Cat knew that Leah was Captain Marvel, she had called her daughter one she was thrown off the building. Leah said she'd get there as fast as she could, but she was in a middle of something with Superman.

Katie's phone rang, she was hoping it was Siobhan, but it was Alex, which made her worry, "Alex-"

"Get here now. We're striking against Supergirl."

Katie inhaled deeply, "I'm on my way." Katie heard the sounds of guns firing, explosions, "Alex-"

"Get here now!"

Katie ran outside of CatCo, going to the roof, she searched around the city, to see a lot of lights coming from a specific area. She ignited her body, causing her clothes to light on fire, she didn't care at the moment. She was too worried. She flew over as fast as she could, she found Alex.

"Alex-"

"Solar Flare!" Alex breathed out, "Up there. Hank, he-"

Katie didn't stay to hear the rest of what she said, she flew up to see the broken glass and building, she dodged Kara, as she was punched down to earth. Katie landed on the ground, Hank following her, "Supergirl, stop this."

"Nothing can stop me."

Katie lifted her hand, then shut her fist, causing Kara to drop to her knees, she was absorbing the Yellow Sun from inside her body. "Alex!"

Alex shot Kara with the gun, making her fall over. Katie watched as red mist came out of her then disappeared. Katie ran over to her, not really taking note that Hank had revealed himself as J'onn.

Alex looked up at J'onn, "Go. Please."

But J'onn didn't flee, he reverted himself back in the form of Hank Henshaw, kneeling down as the men cuffed him. Katie looked down, "We need to get her back at the DEO."

"Solar Flare!" Some people called out. Katie turned her head as she stood, hearing the sounds of phones taking pictures.

"I'll meet you back there."

"Yeah..."

Katie landed at the DEO, running in as they pulled Kara inside. She sat next to her patiently, waiting for Kara to wake up from her sleep. She leaned her head against the table, but she lifted it up when she heard groaning.

Kara opened her eyes, "Did I kill anyone?"

Alex shook her head, "No. No, you didn't kill anyone."

Kara moved her head to Alex, tears forming in her eyes when she sees the sling, her voice cracked, "Your arm-"

"Broken bones heal and this will too."

Kara lifted her hand, covering her eyes as she cried. "It was so horrible, Alex. It was so bad. It was so horrible. Every bad thought I've ever had, it just came to the surface." Kara sobbed, her voice was hoarse, "I couldn't stop it. I didn't mean it... I didn't mean what I said to you. I'm sorry, I'm sorry for what I said."

"Kara, you're my sister and I love you. No matter what. Yeah." Alex wiped one of Kara's stray tears, "There's some truth to what you said. We're going to have to work on that."

Kara became alerted, worry evident in her voice, "What about J'onn?"

Katie looked at Kara, her voice got quiet, "He's in holding right now."

"Katie." Kara's eyes flickered her way, "I-I need to talk with Miss Grant, b-but, I-I can't be there-"

"I'll be with you." Katie took her hand, "Okay, you are my best friend. I'll be there with you."

🔥~🔥~🔥~🔥~🔥

Katie sat next to Kara, in her Solar Flare attire, she held her hands together, looking out at the dark sky. Katie heard Cat walk out, she turned her head to Cat. She looked afraid, almost, when she spotted Supergirl, but when she caught sight of Solar Flare, she calmed down.

"I love this city." Kara exhales, "The lights. All the windows. I love that behind every window there's a story. Someone's eating take-out with their boyfriend. Someone's playing board games with their kids. To me, every person in the city is a light. And every time I've helped one of them... A little bit of their light has become a part of me. I've never been happier than when I've been Supergirl... I know what happened wasn't exactly my fault, my... My brain was altered. But it brought something inside of me out. That was mean and horrible... What I did to you, Ms. Grant-"

"Oh, please. I've base jumped Mount Kilimanjaro. Do you really think you scared me? Well, okay, yes, you did scare me."

"I know..." Kara's eyes moved down, "I scared the whole city... And now I'm so afraid that I'm never gonna win them back."

"Well..." Cat sighs, "If you came here for me to tell you that everything is going to be okay, I can't do that. It's not that easy."

"I know."

"Now, I said that it's not going to be easy. But I didn't say it would be impossible. Personally, I don't believe in failure. Not if you get back up and face the music. It takes time. But if anybody can win this city back... It's you. And you've got the help of two amazing superheroes." Katie gave her a small smile, "My daughter being one of them."

Kara nodded her head, "Can I just... sit here for a little while?"

"Of course."
