Inspired by classical medieval fantasy, this story is an attempt to discover and analyse political as well as existential ideas—all wrapped up in a classic love story.
It started with a conversation in my head between two people from different cultures and with different perspectives, formed after diligently studying moral theory—presumably, it was a blend of my thoughts and views on politics, ideology, religion, tradition, morals, feminism, socialism, social rights, etc., all springing from the questions: what is freedom, what is love, what is integrity, and what is justice?
From there, it grew into something much, much bigger. Now, the universe spans over several planned books (one of which, The Grey Ones, is completed), a new language, religions, pantheons, different cultures, and a history spanning over a thousand years. World-building is a joy, and my brain spins almost out of control!
A simple map of Nornest and Illyria can be found here (the scale is a bit off, I'm very sorry about that—the mass of land is quite large and the distances are rather long).
