《One Last Fight》Pound For Pound Best Fighter

In a few hours, I would be meeting Kinnick and John at the arena for Chase's biggest fight yet. For right now, we were moving him into his new apartment. I wasn't sure why he wanted to move in so soon, but the second he got the okay, he was ready. He promised it had nothing to do with wanting to leave us. He is excited to start his future. Today is the start of the rest of his life and his relationship.

I was proud of my baby - he was starting his life. Not only did he have a great career that was kicking off in the right direction, but he paid off his own car at the same time he purchased an apartment.

When Chase said he purchased a loft, I wasn't aware it was the same one I lived in with Kinnick. A few months ago, Kinnick finalized the sale and wasn't aware Chase was the one looking at it. After countless pages of paperwork, the owner approved his application

Once the elevator that I had so many memories in opened, my jaw dropped. Everything changed. White covered the charcoal color I was used to seeing when I stepped off. Laminate wood flooring was installed - the dark chocolate kind that made everything, including the white walls seem brighter.

As the sun cast down on the dark wood, it gave off a glare that illuminated the room. The golden chandelier was gone and replaced by lights that didn't hang from the ceiling. Their countertops were no longer marble but dark granite. And the bathroom, it stayed the same. Nothing changed.

Kinnick carried in furniture that was nowhere similar to the type he used to have filling the living room. They wanted a pure white couch to match the farmhouse television stand with sliding barn doors. The dark couch pillows matched the darkness of the floor. Aurora went with her mother to pick out decorations that turned out to be beautiful - everything matched perfectly.

She asked me to help her set everything up once her mother left. There were plenty of things that needed to be finished, but we were on a limited time schedule. She was more excited about seeing Chase fight than setting up their first apartment.

As I loaded the dishes into the cabinets, I could hear Collins giving her uncle Miles and Trevor shit in the bedroom. They were trying to put together Chase's bed as she troubled them. Miles was her favorite person and Trevor was her favorite person to pick on. Maverick was sitting in the living room corner, watching Paw Patrol on his i-Pad.

Chase's laughter filled the apartment as Kinnick shoved him onto the couch. They have been challenging one another to who could carry the most. John told him he needed to be in the gym, not lifting furniture, but Chase isn't one to slow down. He reminds me of Kinnick in so many ways. He might as well be Kinnick flesh and blood. They were one of the same people.

"It is five," John announced. "We need to get going."

"You are going to ride with my mom, right?" Chase approached Aurora as he kissed her forehead.

She nodded, bringing his hands to her mouth. "Of course. I'll see you before your fight."

"I love you."

She grins up at him. "I love you."

Kinnick helped me load the kids in the van before Aurora climbed in behind them. Miles and Trevor always rode with me to all of the fights. Kinnick couldn't meet me outside, and he wasn't going to let me walk inside alone with all of the kids. Aurora didn't count as a backup in case something happened out in the parking lot.

They always fought he got to sit up front. So, I made them take turns. This time Miles was sitting in the passenger seat while Trevor rode in the back with Aurora. My hands were shaking as I held onto the steering wheel like they did whenever I drove to one of Chase's fights. Miles reached over, setting his tattooed hand over my fingers.

"You are okay, Bo."

I nodded. "It is my boy. I am always going to be worried."

"He has the best trainer to ever live with the best boxer to ever do it in his corner," he reminded me of reasons why I shouldn't worry. "He is going to win this."

"I know he is going to win," I chuckled. "I don't want him to get hurt in the process."

He squeezed my hand. "What Kinnick did and what Chase is doing aren't even close to the same thing. When Kinnick did it, he didn't care what happened to himself. His fights were ilegal. If they weren't, he would be one of the most famous boxers. He won't let Chase go down that same path. We both know he would never let anyone hurt Chase."

I turned my head to look at him with an appreciative smile. "You have always been good to me, Miles."

"I love you, Bo," he grinned. "We are best friends, remember?"

"That isn't something I could forget," I chuckled as I pulled into the arena's parking lot. "I love you too, by the way."

As I parked the van, I looked back at the kids. "We are a Chase's fight, and what does that mean?"

"Stay by mama," Maverick mumbled.

"And cheer louder than everyone else!" Collins kicked her feet back and forth.

"You got it," I smiled.

Oddly, Maverick allowed Trevor to carry him inside of the arena. Collins was stuck to Miles hip as we walked in. Aurora stayed next to my side. I could see by the way she was looking around for Chase, she needed reassurance. It was a reassurance I couldn't give her. Only Chase could calm the nerves in her body. Just like Kinnick and I did for one another.

I nudged her. "I know what you are going through."

She turned to me. "How did you get through it?"

"Kinnick showed me a weakness no one else had ever seen," I sigh. "So, I knew he could be vulnerable. Yet, in that ring, in this arena, I knew that he was untouchable. He won before the match even started. I had that much confidence in him. Yet, that vulnerable side of them makes us question everything."

"Did he ever get hurt?"

"Probably but Kinnick is the best at hiding things he doesn't want anybody to see. Espeically me."

"So is Chase."

My hand reached over to lace our fingers together. She let out a breath of relief. Even though her muscles loosened the tiniest bit, she still needed Chase to soothe her worrying mind. Kinnick came around the corridor corner, picking up Collins as she ran toward him.

"Where is Chase?" Aurora piped up.

He turned around. "He was behind me a second ago. You can go in the room."

She smiled at us both before thanking not only Kinnick but me. The man I loved most leaned down, pressing a kiss to my lips as he stepped toward me. I held onto his suit to gain stability. He still made me weak in the knees. The kind of weakness that made me wonder if I could stand on my own.

"You okay?" He asked.

"Is he ready for this fight?"

"Yes," he looked me in the eye. "I wouldn't let him step into that ring if he wasn't."

"I know that," I sigh. "I am just worried."

"That is the momma's job," he chuckled. "I am starting to wonder if you think Chase is a good boxer at all."

"No, I am worried because he got trained by the same man who trained me and I learned nothing except for how to hold my hands up."

His eyes narrowed as he sat down Collins to chase Jaydon and Maverick. A smile tugged at my lips as he leaned forward, stepping to me with his eyes trained on my face. I tilted my head back to look at him.

"You are lucky you are carrying our kid -"

"Why?" I challenged. "If I wasn't, it would be you and me in that ring."

He licked his lips before smirking. "I wasn't thinking the ring. I thought we could pound it out in our bed, but that is just my personal preference."

"What makes you think you would win?"

I swallowed a gulp as his lips neared my ear. "They don't call me the best pound for pound fighter in the world for nothing, baby."
