《One Last Fight》I Don't Want To Be A Grandpa Yet

When the day fell into night, the house was surrounded by all of our family. Chase asked if we could celebrate his birthday today. Considering it is his favorite holiday, and everyone was gathering for our win in the courtroom, neither of us cared. I helped Bo grab his presents from the bedroom while he waited outside for his friends.

Neither of us have met his friends, so we are both worried. Yet, he promised they were good people. Let's hope they are nothing like Bo's so-called friends she had in high school because she said they were good people at one point also. Hopefully, they were like the friends I found at a young age. Miles, Trevor, and John.

Chase didn't expect anyone to get him a present, but everyone got him one. John didn't bring one because no one was aware his birthday party was happening tonight, so he left to get him something. I knew that if something were to happen to me, I would never have to worry about Bo, Chase, or Maverick. Not with the kind of friends I had.

Bo wasn't sure if anyone was going to show up tonight to Trick-of-Treat. Since we are a few minutes away from other houses, she never thought about the possibility of not having kids show up to our door in their costumes. It upset her. I know it did, even though she told me everything was fine.

She was leaving the orange lights that wrapped around the porch on regardless. Chase helped her line the walkway with straw brooms. He even helped her wrap them in purple lights. She said it was practically a landing strip for witches.

From how they decorated the house and the way they talked about it with love and childlike wonder in their eyes, I was starting to love Halloween too. Bo didn't take it lightly. She changed the bath mats and every rag in the house. The table runners were themed. The pillows on the couch were fit for Halloween. When she said she decorated, she went all out.

I turned my head at the sound of laughter coming through the house. When chase said he had friends, I expected something other than a single girl to show up. Bo's eyes were wide as the black-haired girl walked inside.

"Momma," he called out to her. "Dad. This is Aurora."

"Beautiful name," Bo's dimples popped. "Nice to meet you."

Aurora swallowed a large gulp as she looked up at me. "Hi."

I chuckled. "Hello."

"Nice to meet you, Mr. and Mrs. Carson."

Bo hummed. "You can call us Bo and Kinnick."

"Or Kiki," Chase teased. "That's what momma calls him. He really isn't all that bad."

Aurora smiled with a blush on her cheeks. "Uh - well, it is nice to meet you."

"Likewise," Bo smiled. "How about a tour of the house, Chase?"

He grinned. "Come on. I'll show you my room."

Her hand slipped into his. I watched her body relax the second their skin touch, and something told me this girl was going to be around a lot. Well, something told me she isn't leaving, and I didn't mind at all. They disappeared up the stairs.

"Should we have let them go upstairs alone?"

"Probably not."

Her face paled. "You don't think they will have sex, do you?"

"I am not sure," I chuckled. "I remember I wanted to touch every inch of your body at every chance I got. I still do."

She placed her hand on my chest as I backed her against the wall. "This is not a time for Kinnick junior to get happy."

"Too late," I pressed my hands on the wall as I leaned down to kiss her neck. "There is never a time when he isn't. The ground and pound is always ready."

She laughs into my ear. "Kinnick! I am trying to be serious."

"I wasn't joking," I lapped my lips over her earlobe. "Just so you know, I am down for whatever, whenever."

She gripped the front of my satin shirt as I nibbled on her skin. I pulled away, dropping a wink as the front door opened. Her chest faltered as she breathed. It couldn't decide if she was getting enough air or barely any. It raised just to fall rapidly.

"We are back, bitches!"

I shake my head. "John, there are kids in the house now."

"You are going to tell me you haven't cursed in the presence of a child? I'll let you in on a secret, your kid curses too."

Bo stifled her laughter as she placed her hand on my back. "We love your grand entrances, John."

"Yes," I rolled my eyes. "So much."

Riley laughed as he slid into a seat at the table. "Where is Chase?"

"Upstairs with his friend Aurora."

Miles gasped. "You let him go upstairs with a girl, alone?"

Trevor tsked. "Not a good idea."

Bo looked startled. "They aren't going to do anything."

"I guarantee he is feeling her up right now."

"She doesn't seem like that kind of girl."

"Neither did you until you had a little taste," I teased her.

She turned around, whipping me with the orange dishtowel in her hand. "Do you want to be put in timeout?"

"Kinky," John joked. "We love to see it."

"Promise you are going to tie me up too," I begged her, missing the way her cheeks flamed.

She gulped before pressing my chest. "Go get my son."

"Your son?"

"He would pick me as the favorite," she grinned.

"I am going to ask him."

"In front of me because I will love to see the look on your face when he chooses me."

As I ran up the stairs, I was happy for not only Chase but me that Bo sent me and didn't come up herself. Because the second I knocked on the door and announced my arrival, I opened the door to see them heavily kissing. I cleared my throat, scaring both of them.

"You look hungry," I shrug.

"You came upstairs to tell me I look hungry?" Chase sucked in deep breaths.

"No, I came upstairs to tell you that everyone is here," I shrug. "But I found you eating each other's faces. So, I assumed you were hungry."

He found humor in my jokes, but Aurora was avoiding eye contacting. "You are lucky it was me and not your mom."

His hand found the girl before leading her toward the door. I grabbed him by the upper arm. "You have a little gloss on your lips. You should wipe it off before you go down."

"Thank you," he smiled.

"Anytime," I shrugged. "But I don't want to be a grandpa yet. I am only twenty-four."

Aurora gasped. "Really?"

"Do I look older?"

"Well, is it possible to have a kid at eight years old?"

I chuckled. "No."

"He isn't my real dad," Chase admitted. "I was adopted as of five hours ago."

She smiled. "Oh. I am happy for you."

"Kinnick!" Miles came around the corner. "Is everything okay?"

He looked between Chase and Aurora. "This must be your girlfriend."

I shoved him away. "Downstairs, troublemaker."

He laughed as he adjusted his nosering. "I was curious."

"You were trying to answer questions for Bo."

"I saw the lipgloss on his mouth," he chuckled. "I don't need an answer to state the obvious. You did catch them, though, didn't you?"

"Thank goodness it was me."

"Why? What would have Bo done?"

"Not be able to sleep for weeks."

Soon after we came down, Chase followed with Aurora by his side. We gathered around him as he slid into a seat at the table. Bo brought him his cake. She lit the candles in front of him before we sang happy birthday.

My curly-haired wife pulled away to snap pictures of him. She was destined to get pictures of him on the walls. The mantel that seemed bare was filling up with pictures of Chase and us together. It was practically a trophy case for everything that has gone right in our lives.

While we were singing, the bell rang. I looked over at Bo with question. She walked to the door with me as we ended. Her breath hitched as kids filled our porch. I watched her toes curl as she looked at the babies in their costumes. A little girl came forward after Bo handed out candy in a white dress with wings on her back.

"Trick-or-treat," she squeaked. "Are you going to be a mommy?"

"Yes," Bo grinned.

"I love babies," the little girl gushed. "I want a baby but my mommy says I am too young."

Her mom looked at us with red cheeks. "Sorry, she likes to put everything out there."

"No, it's okay," Bo smiled down at the toddler. "She is cute."

"I am Elizabeth!" She jumped. "What is your name?"

"I am Bo," she sucked in a deep breath. "Nice to meet you."

"Do you like my angel costume?"

From where I stood, I could see tears welling in Bo's eyes. "You look like a real angel, Elizabeth."

"Thank you for all of the candy," her mom smiled at us. "It was very nice of you."

"Of course," my girl nodded.

"Tell them thank you."

Elizabeth hugged Bo's waist. "Oh, thank you!"

Bo's arms wrapped around the girl's waist as she smiled down at her. When she walked off of our porch, she turned to give Bo one last wave. She stepped inside as heavy breaths settled over her.

My hands pulled her into my chest as the tears fell from her eyes. "Her name was Elizabeth and she was an angel."
