《One Last Fight》I Can't See. I Can't See Them.

I worried about Miles in every way possible. It was always the one with the brightest smile that made you worry the most. He was my best friend, someone that meant a lot to me. I needed to get back in touch with him. After what happened when Kinnick and I split, I distanced myself from him. I forgave Kinnick, and I never hated Miles, but I blamed him like I blamed everybody. There were months of apologizing I had to do because, despite everything, he was still there for me.
I didn't need to blame Miles. John explained it better than anyone. He always did. It wasn't anybody's place to tell Kinnick's secret. It has taken me forever to understand that. I should know best. When it comes down to it, I wanted to be the person to tell my story because it is mine.
Letting him stay the night was the first step to rebuilding a friendship. Things were awkward. The girl he dated also happened to be the sister of the man I dated. So, things weren't bound to be normal between us. I wanted to work on that, though. I wanted to get back to the giddy friendship we had.
"Are you still in college?" I sipped on my water.
He nodded. "I have a few years left."
"What do you plan on doing?"
"Well," he sucked in a deep breath. "After handling all of the financial sides of things here, I realized I am pretty good at it."
"You want to open your own business?"
"I'm thinking about it."
"Any ideas?"
"Possibly a photographer," he sighed. "Chrissy and I planned on opening a studio together."
"Aren't you a Criminal Justice Major?"
He nodded. "I wanted to take pictures for crime scenes."
"What changed?"
"All of us became friends because we experienced something of the same matter," he looked at me. "Kinnick's dad used to beat him. Trevor's mom died from an accidental overdose. And I was in the house when my dad shot himself."
My brows stitched together. "Miles -"
"I was nine," he played with the glass bottle in his hand. "He got back from serving in the military. Mom told me some things happened to him. He had severe PTSD, and nothing could cure him of the things he saw. I don't know if he thought I wasn't home or he didn't think about it -"

"I was playing in my room when I heard the gunshot," his gaze fell. "My ears were ringing. I mean, it was right down the hall in the living room. I came out, and I saw him lying on the rug. There was blood everywhere."
He told me the story of how he spent months talking to a counselor. As messed up as he thought it sounded to say he didn't really know his dad, I shrugged it off. His mom thought he needed help, and seeing his dad's blood everywhere, including other things, did scar him. Yet, he never cried about it.
"I figured if I could see my dad's dead body, I'm pretty sure I could handle others."
"You were nine."
"I learned how to turn off my emotions at a young age."
"This isn't the Vampire Diaries," I shake my head. "You're as normal as the rest of us."
He grinned. "Define normal."
Trevor came around the kitchen corridor. He was never one to say hi. His greeting was a tight hug, nothing less and nothing more. Except he had a thing for pressing a kiss to my cheek before he could pull away. The only reason he did it is because Kinnick wasn't here to say anything.
I rolled my eyes at him as he grinned. "You are trouble, O'Malley."
"I didn't know you two were here," he winked at me. "Was Dan helping you?"
I nodded. "Aren't you seeing Rosie now?"
"Not really," he gave me a half-smile. "I haven't seen her much since -"
"You were caught having sex at John's wedding?"
He snickered, pointing at me. "You are something else."
"You know John would kick your ass, right?" Trevor slid Miles another beer.
"I could take him."
"He beat Kinnick," Miles grinned as he brought the glass to his lips. "And we both know Kinnick could your ass all the way around the block without getting tired."
He topped off my glass with water. "Kinnick wouldn't do shit."
"I don't know," Miles shrugged. "Maybe if he saw you kiss Bo's cheek, he would."
"Do you know what you want?" Trevor leaned forward. "You want chicken nuggets with a lot of ranch, right?"

I smiled. "You got it."
"Wings," Miles shrugged. "With a lot of ranch."
Miles nudged me with his elbow. I stuck my tongue out at him as he teased me. Trevor walked away to start on my food when my phone started ringing. I looked at the number flashing across my screen, knowing exactly who it was. Karen.
"Hey," I looked down at my phone. "I'll be right back."
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah," I sucked in a deep breath. "I need to answer this."
I slid out of my seat, answering the phone call as I walked toward the bathroom. "You have some nerve calling my phone after everything -"
"It's Luke."
"What do you want?"
He sighed. "Boston, you blocked my number."
"For a reason."
"Is it true? You're engaged."
"You saw the ring."
"Can we please talk? Meet up and talk."
"That isn't a good idea," I snapped. "How long did you think it would take me to figure out what happened that night? Or did you think I wouldn't remember?"
"What are you talking about?"
"I beat the fuck out of your sister, but I assume you knew that already. That is the reason you called," I paced the bathroom. "Isn't it?"
All I could hear was his breathing from the other side of the phone before he spoke. "Bo, I didn't know that was going to happen."
"What the fuck did you think would happen? Are you that stupid? You paved the way for him! You made sure the bedroom upstairs was clear before you allowed him to drag me up those stairs."
"It isn't like that -"
"Then what is it like? You sound pretty stupid right now, Luke. So, you better start explaining yourself."
"Chrissy told me you and Warren planned this. I didn't know you were going to be drugged."
"You thought I wanted to lose my virginity at a frat party?"
"Bo -"
"I remember you saying you didn't want to get caught."
"I knew that if something happened, I would be considered an accomplice."
"You could have stopped it," I rubbed my head. "You let them take pictures of me."
"I didn't know," his voice cracked. "I swear to god. I didn't know."
"You talk about how much you love me, and how you can keep me safe, but you let it happen!" Tears were blurring my vision. "I trusted you, Luke. You were my best friend."
"Boston," he sniffled.
"Where were you? When it happened, where did you go?"
"After Eric shoved me out of the room, I stayed by the door -"
"You heard everything. Them laughing at me, and you heard Warren as he," my body fell against the wall. "Oh my god."
My hands started to shake as I gathered my knees to my chest. The humiliation flaring through my body made me sob into my legs. I could hear Luke talking through the phone, but I didn't care to hear anything he had to say. My fingers tugged at my hair as I rocked back and forth. I looked at the phone below me.
I declined his call before I found Kinnick's number. "Hey, baby. How is your date with -"
"Kinnick," I cried into the phone. "I need you, please. Please. Please."
"Where are you? Where is Miles?"
"I'm a the bar -"
"I'm on my way. Where is Miles?"
"He - he - he is eating," I sucked in deep breaths. "I can't - I can't - I can't breathe!"
"Bo, count the tiles."
The tears in my eyes wouldn't allow me to see them. My hands rubbed away at my vision, trying to rid of the inability to see anything. I cried out in frustration as I attempted to count the gray tiles under my body. The music pounding through the walls vibrated through my chest.
"I can't see," I sobbed. "I can't see them."
"Then count with me," he spoke soothingly into the phone. "One."
"One," my shaky voice followed his. "Two -"
"Good job, Bo," I could hear his door slam. "I'm almost there. Keep going."
