《Caught In The Loop | Steve Harrington X Reader》~005~ You Can't Pretend Forever

Max has gone Trick Or Treating tonight. I stayed away from Steve and Nancy today with no foundation to cover my bruise. But I have a feeling...Steve knew anyway.
I'm going to this party to see if I can just forget. I wanna forget it if I get the chance. If it says get Sheet Faced then I guess I'll do it. Just tonight.
"Thirty-Eight, Thirty-Nine, Forty, Forty-One, Forty-Two!"
Everyone cheers loudly as Billy spits the beer into the air. I shake my head nervously.
"YEAH!"
"FORTY TWO!!"
Some sort of chug champion thing I can tell you that much. I take a gulp of my cup and walk inside. I've dressed up as something simple. Like a Vampire. Because I couldn't be stuffed especially after being punched in the face.
"Y/N?"
I turn around and freeze. Shit.
"Nancy!" I chuckle.
"Your eye is bruised! What'd you do?" She asks.
Steve stares down at me, looking at my eyes. I open my mouth to say something but Billy and a couple other dudes arrive.
"We got ourselves a new Keg King, Harrington."
"Yeah, that's right!"
"Yeah! Eat it, Harrington!"
Steve pulls off his glasses and stares Billy dead in the eyes as Nancy walks off elsewhere. I look toward Steve then to Nancy.
I quickly dash off and follow her as she goes to look around. She sighs, but doesn't feel like talking. I follow her past the many individuals in the kitchen. We notice the beer tub and Nancy peers to look at it curiously.
"What's in this?" Nancy asks.
"Pure fuel! Pure! Fuel!" The guy walks away, leaving us both stunned.
"WHOO!"
I notice Steve behind her as he leans on the bench. Me and Nancy exchange glances.
"Hey...Whoa, whoa! Hey, whoa whoa whoa! Both of you, take it easy!"
Me and Nancy chug the cup down then turn to Steve. I stumble slightly and grab the bench for support.
"Take it easy. Nance, Nance, Nance..."
"We're just being stupid teenagers for the night. Wasn't that the deal?" She asks.
Nancy fills her cup again before walking off into the crowd.
Steve sighs and looks toward me. I stand up straight and proceed to fill my cup again. He grabs my arm and pulls it away.
"Nah ah! No whoa whoa whoa stop."
"Go after Nancy, Steve." I growl lowly like an animal. He let's go of my wrist stunned as I fill my cup again.

He sighs and faces forward as I chug this cup down.
"Did Billy punch you in the face?"
"What?" I croak.
"You heard me." He turns to me.
"Why do you care?"
"Because you're my friend."
"I thought I was Nancy's friend."
He sighs shaking his head. "He punched you didn't he?"
I roll my eyes and then nod. "Yeah. Yeah, he did." Steve turns to me angrily.
"I swear to fucking god..."
"Just cool it, Steve..." I shake my head.
"I'm serious when I say just stay out of it. You have to take care of Nance. Not me."
I put my hand on his shoulder. He looks at it for a moment, then back at me. I smile slightly then go to fill my cup again.
"Whoa whoa whoa! Lay off the drinking!"
"What'd I just say?" I turn to him coldly.
"I may need to take care of Nance but I'm not gonna let you give yourself alcohol poisoning."
"I'm not that drunk Steve." I protest.
"Yeah?" He asks.
"Walk in a straight line."
I smile proudly and do just that. Literally.
"Okay, maybe you're not that drunk." He shrugs.
"Yet."
Steve looks up at me before running off into the crowd. I feel my heart flutter. Shit dude.
Is it just me...or am I falling for this guy?
No. NO it's just the alcohol.
A bit of time goes by and I see Jonathan arrive through the front door.
Hey! Looks like he did come around after all!
I see him look in our direction and I wink with a wide grin. I'm dancing with Nancy and Steve...but he doesn't seem too happy about it. More like sad. He turns back to the girl he was talking to.
Nancy suddenly runs off and Steve follows her. I stand there dumbfounded. Do I follow them or do I stay here?
I must've been standing for a while because there's a sudden exclaim amongst the crowd and everyone's heads turn in that direction.
Nancy has a red splotch on her chest from what I assume is the beer.
"The hell?" She sighs.
She runs off to the bathroom through the shocked crowd.
"Nance."
Steve following soon after. I look around. I notice Billy has also seen this as well as Jonathan. Moments go by where the party is back up again but...it feels off. Unright.

I look toward the bathroom door and see Steve come out. He has a saddened look on his face and he runs out the door.
"STEVE!!"
I push past Jonathan and outside where Steve has parked.
"Steve!"
"Go away!" He yells.
"NO! Something happened didn't it?"
"I keep telling you that it's none of your business!" He turns around. My face softens as he shows me his broken, destroyed face. Holding back tears.
I quickly go up to him and wrap my arms around him. He stands there stunned but lowers his head into my shoulder. I feel his body shake.
I knew something was wrong...I just knew it! But...I didn't think it would turn like this...
"Steve. Let's go to your house and I'll try to help you work it out."
"Why?" He stammers.
"If we go to mine, that's trouble. Are your parents at home?"
"No. They've gone away on a business trip."
I pull away to show his red eyes. "Let's go to your house and you can talk to me okay?"
"But you're tipsy." He says, his eyebrows furrowed.
"I don't care and we're both broken. I just wanna know you're okay."
Wait...what am I saying?
He says nothing and turns to the car, opening the passenger door. I nearly fall in but survive. Steve gets in on his side of the car and speeds off.
I stare out the window as he continues to drive. I offered him to talk in the car but he said that he should focus.
We finally arrive to his house. It's nice. A little old but he unlocks the door and turns the light on. He instantly sits on the big cough and slumps over, putting his head in his hands.
I shut the door as I hear him sob. I can't think. So I sit down beside him and rub his back silently. Slowly and calmly, trying to keep him calm.
"She said we were bullshit." He whimpers.
"She was just drunk."
"Drunk thoughts are sober words."
"She didn't mean it."
"But she did. She said...She said." He sits back and huffs.
"That...that I was bullshit. That we killed Barb. That our relationship was bullshit. She kept saying bullshit."
My face softens as he sits on the couch.
"She said that we kept pretending that we were in love. As if we weren't."
She's...Nancy...has broken him.
I know the feeling of being broken like this before. It's comforting to just...
I wrap my arms around him from behind and lay my head on his shoulder. He sobs as I soothingly hum him a small melody.
Be there.
"I'm a shitty boyfriend." He Sobs.
"Steve..." I whine.
"No, you're not."
"But she didn't love me." He says running his hand through his hair.
He's a bit more calmed down now but he's given me a bottle of drink and he has as well. He's still a bit sober but now I'm a bit drunk.
He glances over at me and places his bottle down. I groan and drop mine in an attempt to get up.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa." He quickly catches me, my hands landing on his chest.
"I...need to go hooome!" I whine.
"Y/N, I'm sorry."
He cups his hand in mine. "StEeEvVvEeE!"
"I'm sober, b-but not enough to drive you home." He stammers.
I try to stand up again but I slip and fall again. "C-Careful Y/N!"
I lift my head up and look at him, wrapping my arms around his neck for more support. He stares down at me with a sad look in his eyes.
"Jesus, what am I going to d-do with you?"
I'm not thinking. All self-control of my thoughts are gone and everything that I basically think comes out loud. I whine and push him away, leaning against the wall. I snicker.
"B-Billy thinks he's SOOOOOOOOOOOOO fuck-fucking perfect."
"Y/N you're drunk. You need to rest." Steve shivers.
Steve wraps his arms around my waist and I hiss as he pulls me away from the wall. "Y/N, you'll need to stay overnight. I'll take you home tomorrow when both of us are sober."
"I need to go home NOOOWW!!"
I growl like a rabid animal as he picks me up bridal style and carries me upstairs.
He places me down on a single bed. I claw at him and then the air as he walks away.
"S-Steve?"
He shuts the door and I drop my head in defeat. I curl into a small ball and try to get some sleep.
"F-Fucking Billy dumbass." I mumble under my breath.
