《A Mindful Relationship [Jensoo]》Chapter 9

"I can't believe this..."

Awhile ago, I told the two giants that I'll be taking a bathroom break and they were sober enough to respond to me with their lazy thumbs up. That bathroom break was the only peace I've had since I entered this hotel and the start of a massacre here in Jisoo's house.

As soon as I got out of the bathroom, the whole place was a war zone. As if a typhoon just passed by and swept the couches on the other side of the room, turned the tables upside down, the bedroom was a freakin' trash dump now, and the kitchen... a total mess.

"And this two slept through all this?!" I motioned to the drop-dead maknaes who were having the best sleep of their lives, considering they had drool on the corners of their lips, on top of the mountain of pillows they created. "Unbelievable..."

Should I clean this up?

"Damn it. Cleaning isn't my thing." I cursed to myself while ruffling my hair to lessen the incoming headache that's urging to happen at this moment.

Suddenly, a vibration was felt from my back pocket. I tapped the back pocket of my jeans which seemed like I was groping myself but who's seeing me?

I fished out my phone and looked at the caller's ID first before answering it right away.

Jennie: Appa?

Jennie's father: Sweetie, come to the hospital now.

His tone was calm as always but picturing him at this current situation, he must be pacing around right now while my mother just sits there watching him.

Jennie: What happened? Were you hurt?!

Jennie's father: Your brother got into a car accident. He's currently being treated right now.

That idiot.

I should've known really but why am I still surprised? I frantically grabbed my bag and rushed out of the room. Not forgetting to lock it right after. Had a bit of difficulty hopping my way out of the corridors because one shoe wasn't cooperating with my foot.

Jennie: I-I'll be on my way. Which hospital?

Jennie's father: Kwangdong.

Jennie: On my way. See ya.

After I've hung up, I shoved the phone inside my pocket and ran towards the elevator. Pressing the down button of the elevator far too many times already. Just to my luck, the elevator door dinged immediately letting the person inside come to view.

"Jisoo!" I exclaimed while getting in the elevator with her and closing the doors of it quickly before she gets out to her floor. She gave me a glare that says,

"Explain please."

I stiffened in my place as her glare gave chills down my spine and I am not liking the feeling. I've now realized how cold this girl could be. I wonder how Lisa just chills with her without Jisoo getting mad.

I gave her a nervous chuckle while avoiding her gaze before asking her first, "Is your car still available?" Expectingly looking at her, she nodded and a smile formed on my lips. "Can I drive it? I'll explain later. Just please let me borrow it."

If she won't agree, I just have to force her to let me borrow it. But I was internally happy and externally shook when she gave me a paper that says:

I'll drive you.

"Seriously? But what about the maknaes? They're alone and wasted in your room." I pointed heavenwards while she only chuckled a little making me stare at her lips a bit too long than necessary. What can I say? Her mouth looks kissable.

She took her notebook out from the pocket of her tux jacket - or whatever it's called - and gave me another paper which I read almost right away.

Leave them be. You looked very worried right now so this must be urgent.

"Thank you..."

...

"Appa!" I shouted as I saw sight of the big figure of my father, standing beside the door of my idiotic brother's room and my mother comforting him at her best. Which was working considering that my father always goes crazy whenever one family member gets hurt.

"Jennie..." He sighed in relief after seeing my presence, giving me a hug right after I gave my mother a kiss on the cheek.

"Where's that idiotic brother of mine that got himself into an accident without me even getting my eyes off him for a whole day?!" I demanded an answer from my father who had his eyes wide and amused. My mother didn't waste any more time to explain and just shoved me in the room to be met by a frightened Hanbin, who was peacefully eating a burger in hand.

He had a few scratches on his face, a bandage around his head, and some more bandages on some parts of his body. All was on view considering that his hospital gown was open to the world and for Pete's sake, the windows were open. And it was really cold tonight. What came into his mind to open the windows while he's body is barely covered with that thin hospital gown?

"J-Jennie..." He immediately dropped the half-eaten burger onto the plate right next to his bed on the nightstand and smiled at me as if it was something normal to do after you see your little sister about to beat you up for getting into an accident.

"You deserve this, you shit head." I spatted at him which he only brushed off by laughing with his mouth wide and oh I wish he would die out of laughing.

"I'm hurt and this is what you tell your Oppa? Your getting very hostile with me all because you're in college already, young lady." He pouted while pointing his finger at me and wriggling it just to piss me off. Chaeyoung, Jisoo, and he could be the only people who can seriously piss me off without even trying.

But still, I'm not a cold-hearted bitch who doesn't care about my brother's well-being. Well, I seem to be but that's only because people vision me as something as I am not. And it just proves them right when I act all bitchy as I am but who cares about their opinions. I am proud to be who I am and who are they to judge?

"Oppa..." I barely stopped my tears, that were trying so hard to fall, at bay while sniffling away the incoming snot that was about to emerge.

"Come here, you softie." He opened his arms wide and not a single moment after, I'm already there being comforted by him even though it has to be the other way around.

My brother is such an idiot but he's an idiot that can make you smile with no effort, an idiot that is also a genius, an idiot that is always there when I need him, and an idiot that I love so dearly.

"I thought you already died." I mumbles on his chest while the vibration of his laugh was the only thing I could hear at the moment. His hands freely roaming around my hair and playing with it.

"Do you want me to?" His tone was all joke but that made me raise my head which hit his chin making the both of us groan but that didn't stop me from glaring at him for joking like that.

"There'll be a day but not now."

A cheeky smile spread across my face while an amused one formed on his lips. After a couple of seconds of just staring at each other - which made us look like a couple for some reason, I nuzzled my head on his shoulder while he securely wrapped his arms around me.

"Drama's over, kiddos." And that's where the moment was just thrown out of the window. My father is such a mood killer.

"Jennie, you friend here is very nice although I haven't seen her hang out with you yet." My mother voiced out while pointing at Jisoo who was standing near the doorway with her infamous stoic face. "Are you perhaps a new student?"

Jisoo took out her notebook before scribbling her answer then passing it to my mother in a respectful way. She at least has manners.

Yes.

My family raised a questioning brow at Jisoo, who didn't seem to be affected of their gazes at all, and tried to comprehend the odd way of answering before I stepped in to explain.

"Um... Jisoo's not exactly available to speech at the moment."

The room was filled with nods of understanding before they welcomed Jisoo's presence with a smile. Although, they considered her my friend already. I still don't know if she does see me as a friend or just an acquaintance.

"Oh... are you mute, dear?"

Jisoo scribbled once again on her notebook before handing a reply to my mother who's the one who asked. I still wonder if she ever gets tired doing the same thing, replying with that notebook. I mean, I don't know sign language so I can't just tell her to stop replying like that.

Why am I overthinking about this again?

You could say that.

"That must be pretty hard communicating with people then." My father gave her shoulder a pat of pity and I saw Jisoo's jaw clench which made my eyes widen at the gesture my father gave her. Appa never gets like this unless...

He's feeling competitive with one of my suitors. Did he just assume Jisoo to be one of my suitors? Oh my gosh...

"Anyways, Jennie. You just can't keep this pretty lady here, waiting for you. Go outside and have a meal with her. I'm pretty sure she hasn't eaten yet considering that she's still in a business suit." My father gave her a smile and I as well before going to the side of my brother's bed to talk to him about whatever. Totally leaving my mother out.

"Of course." I replied with a nod even though I know they're not paying attention to me anymore. And so I faced Jisoo who was patiently waiting there for me with a forced smile on her face. She looked mad. I mean, my father just pitied her for no apparent reason. "Um... you won't mind going home for awhile? Appa won't let you go home unless I treat you to dinner."

I whispered the last part and she nodded. I said a short farewell to them and me and Jisoo proceeded walking out of the corridors of the hospital. We had a short conversation along the way. It wasn't that interesting though.

...

Flashback...

She passed me a paper all of a sudden making me stop abruptly on my steps. I took it hesitantly and read it aloud even though I didn't have to.

You and your family seem pretty close.

"We are. What about you?"

We're alright.

"A-Alright..."

End of Flashback...

...

And so another silence passed by as our steps led us to the outside of the hospital. The cold breeze of the night hit our bodies, the night silent and I could only hear some staff of the hospital speaking words which I clearly don't understand. The night was colder than expected and I was here, mentally scolding myself for forgetting to wear a coat in September.

"So where'd you wanna eat?" I asked. Trying my best to not let Jisoo notice my lower lip quivering because of the cold.

But I guess, acting isn't also my thing. Because she took her jacket off while releasing a sigh and placing it on top of my shoulders, effectively giving me as much warmth as needed. She handed me a paper before taking her leave.

I'll just go home.

"Jisoo, wait!"

She wasn't that far away from me yet so I chased her before grasping her wrist, successfully making her turn around almost too roughly. Looking at me quizzically. I, myself, don't even know why I called her out. I didn't have any reasons to yet I reflexively took her wrist.

Awkward was the only word I could describe the situation I am in now. Feeling my cheeks heat up from embarrassment, I hid my face in my hands which were holding her hand awhile ago.

"I-I..." I stammered to get things out of my mouth. An explanation for what I did and yet nothing is going out of my mouth making me look like an idiot there.

Luckily, Jisoo was patiently waiting for me to speak without any sign of impatience in her face and stance. I took a deep breath and was about to speak if it wasn't for someone who interrupted me all of a sudden by the call of my name.

"Jennie?"

I turned around by hearing a familiar voice call out my name as casually as it sounded. I hated it that he still looked so handsome as he is a year ago. My mind stopped functioning as I stared at nothing but him, my heart dropped seeing his face again after a year, and my eyes welled up with tears after surfing through memory lane.

"K-Kai..."
