《A Daughter of Thanatos( Nico di Angelo )》Chapter 17

Nico Di Angelo's P.O.V (A/N: thanks @sally04455 for suggesting Nico's P.O.V)
I couldn't sleep last night. Not a wink.
She freak'n puked all over me. I grimaced. Gross. Hmm... Her fault. She didn't share. I bet it's all karma's doing.
I shivered. Gods, it even smelled disgusting. It was kind of chunky too. I chuckled. "Nico?" Cole whispered.
"Yeah?" I asked. "Are you going crazy?" I furrowed my eyebrows. "No, why?" I turned my head to look at him.
"You keep laughing and whispering things. Are you sure you're not going nuts?" I glared at him. I grabbed my pillow and smacked his head. "Ow! What the hell was that for?!"
I rolled my eyes. "Shut up and go to sleep, or do you want to sleep with Andy instead?" He blushed and hid his face in the pillow.
"Hmm..." I turned over and closed my eyes.
~~~
My were opened still. Gods, I'm tired. I yawned and rubbed my eyes.
I got up and went to change in the bathroom.
Once I was finished, I went outside to take a walk.
The air was okay, but didn't really help as much. I felt like something bad was about to happen.
I saw a small coffee shop and went in. It was warm inside and the smell of coffee beans filled my nose. I went up to the cash register and asked for a coffee.
I paid and waited for it to be finished. Once it was ready, I took it and left.
The walk was short, but interesting. If you think being chased by a Manticore is interesting.
"Gods..." I whispered to myself. I reached the hotel and saw Cole going out. I pushed him back inside the hotel with me. "Tell the girls to pack up. GO!" He did as told and got out my sword made of Stygian Iron.
"Isn't this great?" I whispered to myself and waited for it to get closer. What a wonderful way to start the day!
I heard the horrified screams from the people around me. I wonder what the mist made the people see...
"It's a rhino, mommy!" I heard a little girl squeal. Her mother picked her up and ran away somewhere safe. I put my focus back on the monster and went into my fighting stance.
"Craaap." I said, as I went to block the scorpion tail.
Clarissa Walker's P.O.V
"Guys, we have a problem." I groaned, but got up.
"What is it?" Shadow asked. "Nico. Big monster. Run. Brush your teeth." I glared at him, but rinsed my teeth. I quickly changed and got out my backpack. Shadow and Andy did the same.
"Hurry! We have to help him." We ran out the room and saw Nico fighting the lion thing.
"What's that?!?!" I shouted. Bad move.
The thing's head snapped towards me and flung Nico to the side. "Uh-oh." I said. Shadow grabbed my wrist and pulled me away.
"Manticore." She said. "Run! We have to get Nico, and leave!" She said. I unleashed Soul and shakily held it up.
I went to run to Nico while Shadow distracted the Manticore. Andy also had her bow and arrows out. Cole had a sword and Shadow had so much weapons with her.
The three of us went to help Nico. I ran as fast as I could to him. Even though I hate him right now, he still is part of the quest.
Cole, Andy and I were able to reach him without complications. So far...
"You're so stupid you know that?" He told me as we helped him up. I went underneath his arm and propped him up. "Yeah? Well you were stupid enough to go out on a walk. Making that Manticore thing follow you back!" He groaned and Cole supported him on the other side.
"Cole, go help Shadow to distract the thing. Andy, get Nico's left side." They did what the were told to do and Nico tried to walk.
"Where's the car?" He clutched onto my shoulder and said, "Outside." He pointed outside the doors. We nodded and struggled to get him there. A lot of shaking and thing being thrown around.
"Shadow, Cole! Get out of there!" The two nodded and jumped off the second floor balcony. They ran to us and helped with Nico. "Who's going to drive?" Cole raised his hand. "You are?" Andy asked.
"Hey! I'm not a child of Hermes for nothing." He went into the driver's seat and started the engine up. We piled in, Andy sitting in front. Of course.
"Can you give me a piece of ambrosia?" Shadow asked. I nodded and searched for one in my untidy backpack. I handed it to her quickly. "Cole, step on it already!" Andy yelled at him, as she punched his arm.
Without warning, he went out driving. He ripped through the streets of San Francisco. The Manticore was still following us. People were screaming and the impatient drivers honking. Great!
"Ow..." Nico groaned. I sighed. I handed him a bottle of water and he chugged it down. "Just in a few minutes, the poison will start to set in." Andy grinned. Nico choked and sat up straight. "You poisoned it!" He looked at me shocked. I rolled my eyes. "Yes, Nico. I poisoned the water and made you drink it. I hate you sooo much! Now I finally get my revenge." His horrified expression made me believe he actually is stupid.
"Stupid! They were joking!" Shadow said, rolling her eyes.
He glared at me and Andy. Cole softly chuckled. "Assholes..." We rolled our eyes and sat. I looked behind us and saw the lion thing gone. "Does anyone know where the lion thingy is?" I asked. They shrugged.
Shadow looked around urgently. Then the thing slapped it's tail against the side of the car. Cole drove even faster. "Where exactly are we going?" Andy asked.
"Back to New York, duh..." The car swerved and we bumped into each other. "Why?" Nico sighed. "Cupid's Matchmaker. It's a huge matchmaking company. A lot of people go there and they find who they're perfect for." I nodded.
Okay... Cole exelerated the speed and we eventually lost the thing.
It was getting dark and Shadow and Andy were asleep. Only Cole, Nico, and I were still up.
"Thanks." Nico mumbled. l looked at him confused. "For what?" He sighed. "For saving my butt."
"Hey, I'm not the only one who saved you. You still have to thank Andy, Shadow, and Cole." He groaned, but nodded. "Since Cole's up, say it to him now." He groaned.
"I said sorry once today already! lf l keep doing this, l won't be able to stop." I rolled my eyes. "That would be horrible!" I said sarcastically.
He smirked. "Yeah, l know." I rolled my eyes. "Ya know, you're eyes will get stuck like that." I stuck my tongue out at him. "Real mature." He rolled his eyes.
I pinched my nose and said, "Ya know, you're eyes will get stuck like that." In a nasally voice.
He groaned. "Why do you have to be so annoying?" I shrugged. "I guess you rubbed off on me." He nudged my shoulder and I nudged him back.
"You're such a dick." I said, leaning into his shoulder and closing my eyes.
"You're such a bitch."
This book is now available on Amazon! https://www.royalroad.com/amazon/B09H5CQSX5 For legal reasons, I need to hide most of the content from Royal Road for now. The version for sale is revised and expanded anyway, including a rewritten opening. If the book does well, that's encouragement to write more of it soon! Reviews are welcome too. As noted in the afterward, it's been fun and useful to share this work with all of you here as I worked on it. Update 2022/2/22: Wow, it did do well! Thanks to all who read, commented, bought, and/or spread the word. Right now I'm working on a side-story about character Selen, and posting that starting yesterday. I do plan to do a true sequel this year, yet.
What seems like an innocent game trope turns into a nightmare. This is a story of tragedy and the path to ultimate power. All in the hopes of an uncertain survival. _________ This fiction has NOT been abandoned. I made a haughty promise earlier to not worry because I'll continue this series, and with things lately, I've only proved myself a liar. Further promises dwindled, and I've lost trust. So many things have been going on recently that I've been booked. I will refrain from making any future guarantees or promises as my busy schedule will stay with me for a long long while. Time for me to actually spend on writing and revising won't appear until at the least November 19. I won't say expect that's when I'll restart, but you can expect expecting it to maybe happen. That's really shallow. But with everything going on, I've let my small reading base down. I apologize. I still stick by my statement though that I won't abandon this project. I plan to stick it to the end, no matter the delay. Most importantly, thank you everyone; readers who both like and dislike my work. I appreciate your time spent on my dumb imagination. Stay toasty my readers in this winter season. Cheers. UPDATE: We're back on track. Thank you for your patience. Any future readers, heyo! Glad you're here. UPDATE 2: So far it's been 21 days since I last uploaded a chapter. The best thing done for any fiction, no matter how good it is, is that it continues, and I have a bad history with that. 1 fiction on hiatus and already more delays with less than 20 chapters in this fiction. I've been very preoccupied with adding more things to do in my life rather than actually committing to any particular thing. That applies primarily to this. I cannot abandon this, as busy as my future looks and will look as I get busier and busier. Someday, I hope, I will be able to sit down and just write. just. write. But for now, I ask for patience. I suppose I'm glad this fiction hasn't picked up so that I don't disappoint too many people if any really. But I need to commit and it's going to happen sometime and sometime soon. No more flowery words. I'll see you later. UPDATE 3: It's very evident I won't be able to pick up this story for a while. With AP Testing, competitions, and other things I am busier than ever. But I must complete this fiction. I have too. Until next time. UPDATE 4: It is now the summer. I owe everyone an apology. Chances are, nobody's around to see this, and that is okay. I only blame myself for this sort of brokenness of a fiction, not that it is actually that bad but I am just exaggerating it for dramatic effect.But what's not exaggerated is the severity of my broken promise. I apologize for my naive claims about finishing a novel that I couldn't finish and that I didn't have the discipline to finish. Nor the skills, really, I was and am still an immature writer.What is to place now? I want to make it clear I understand this is my fault. I will man up to this. And I will accept any criticism. I understand I messed up. Reading Stephen King's On Writing made it clear to me that I need to do two things:Read lots.And write lots.I have done neither. If I don't have the time to read often, how do I expect to write? I need to become more experienced. I need to become a serious writer.So if I want to dream of continuing, I need to at least fulfill both requirements. I enjoy writing. I haven't written seriously outside of school in a while. I planned to write this summer and finish this. I made a lot of promises that I didn't keep.So there's that. I won't enact any self-pity, or be foolishly obsessed. What I did was wrong, and I must deal with it. I let down readers. And I apologize.I hope I can find forgiveness. This is a writer's sin.I won't promise I'll finish this. I intend to finish this, at some point, because writing is fun and I want to write. But how things are don't reflect that. Maybe I'll finish this at some point. Maybe I won't. I won't be naive to make that promise.I thank everyone who has read this if this is the end. If not, and hopefully not, I thank everyone who is to read future chapters. I thank everyone who allowed me to live in the miniscule little dream of mine as I passed my days. I thank everyone who cares enough to read this. Until next time, peace everyone. Thank you. You are all great readers and great people. I wish everyone the best in whatever reading/writing endeavors follow you henceforth.
