Veronica's last class of the day couldn't have come sooner. It seemed that after she realized what the Cullens were, she was seeing them everywhere. Alice and Nicholas were in her art class, Edward in biology, and as she walked into history class, she noticed Rosalie, Jasper, and Emmett at the back of the room.

Emmett met her eyes as soon as she came in. He smiled at her, but she didn't return it, something he wasn't used to with other girls — though he didn't really smile at girls too often. Instead, she walked up to Mr. Hummel's desk and got the last signature that she needed for the day.

"Class, it seems we have a new student. Would you mind introducing yourself, dear? Where are you from? What do you like?"

Veronica inwardly groaned. She had managed to go the whole day without doing any kind of class introduction or icebreaker. She put on a fake smile and stared at the faces that were becoming familiar.

"Hi, I'm Veronica Winchester," she introduced, while casually leaning back on the teacher's desk. "I've lived pretty much all over North America. I like music and cars and stupid sitcoms."

"Well, we're glad to have you, Miss Winchester. Does anyone have any questions before she takes her seat? Yes, Ms. Jones?"

"What's your favorite sitcom?" the redhaired girl with her hand raised asked.

"A tie between New Girl and Always Sunny in Philadelphia," Veronica answered honestly. She wasn't a fan of answering questions in front of the whole class, but she could talk about tv and music for hours.

Next, a boy with an unflattering buzzcut raised his hand. When the teacher called on him, he leaned forward with a cocky smirk on his face. "So, what's your favorite song to make out to?"

Several chuckles and groans filled the room. "Jackson!" Mr. Hummel snapped. "Ms. Winchester, I am so sorry."

"It's alright," she said, matching Jackson's smirk. "Maybe you'd find out if you didn't have such an ugly haircut that made you look like a bald rat. Though, I suppose them you'd just look like a normal rat."

The class broke out in laughter as the boy glared at Veronica, who readjusted her backpack and turned to the teacher. Even Mr. Hummel was chuckling a little bit. "Uh, you may take the empty seat next to Mr. Hale. Jasper, raise your hand please."

Of course, she would be put next to the vampires. Veronica headed towards the back of the class and took the empty seat next to Jasper. Emmett was in the seat behind her and Rosalie was next to him. She didn't give any of them a second glance as she pulled her supplies out of her backpack.

"Miss Winchester, it seems you chose a good day to come to Forks. I'm assigning partners for a group project today and you've stopped me from assigning a three-person group."

Several groans filled the classroom and a girl who was wearing a cheerleading uniform raised her hand. "Mr. Hummel, why can't we pick our own partners."

"Because, Allison, then you would partner yourself up with Chase and the two of you would be working on a lot more biology than history."

Allison rolled her eyes and lowered her hand as several snickers filled the room. Even Veronica chuckled and looked at Chase, who was high-fiving Jackson. Veronica leaned back in her chair as she waited for Mr. Hummel to get to her name. She figured she'd be the last one to be assigned.

"Jessica and Mike." Jessica, who was clearly head over heels for Mike, giggled and looked down at her notebook.

"Emmett and Rosalie, and lastly, Veronica, you will be with Jasper."

Clearly, he had planned to pair up the three members of the Cullen family. Veronica looked at Jasper and gave him a small wave before looking back at the teacher as he explained the project. They would each be appointed a time period and they would have to pick four inventions from the period and research and present on them. It wasn't a difficult project by any means, especially to Veronica, who had been taught her researching skills by Sam. After he assigned the timelines, he told everyone to sit by their partners and talk about the project for a few minutes. Because they were already next to each other, Veronica just pushed her desk a little closer to Jasper's.

"So, the 1800s," Veronica said, writing the date at the top of her page. Jasper shared a look with Emmett and Rosalie, surprised that she didn't introduce herself or try to talk. She got right to work. Veronica picked up her phone and smiled. "The telephone is an obvious one."

Jasper nodded along, agreeing with her. "There were lots of important inventions in the nineteenth century. The lightbulb and the first trains. Photography, steam engines, and the cotton gin. Take your pick."

Veronica jotted all of those things down. "You sure know a lot about history."

Oh, the irony, all four of them thought.

"Ok, so, let's do phones, lightbulbs, and the steam engine."

"And the fourth?" he asked.

"How about Samuel Colt's first revolver?" Veronica asked. She had to hide a smirk at her own inside joke. "It was the first multi-shot firearm and aided in the westward expansion and a little less obvious than the others. Might not be what Mr. Hummel would expect."

"Smart idea," Jasper said slowly. "I wouldn't have thought of it."

"Great," Veronica said, adding that to the list. "I'll take the phone and gun, and you take the others. We can do our research separately and then meet later and put it all together."

"Sounds good," Jasper agreed. He was a little surprised at how quickly they hammered out the details of the project. "When would you want to meet?"

"Well, it's not due for like two weeks, so maybe sometime next week."

"You could come by our place to work on it."

Veronica looked over her shoulder and frowned at Emmett who had spoken. "I just met your brother like two minutes ago and I haven't even met you and you're already inviting me to your house?" She didn't miss the glare that Rosalie was shooting Emmett, clearly not wanting her there. "Sounds like a good way to get murdered."

"Uh, but, I mean, we wouldn't — I'm not a—"

Veronica turned away from him and looked back at Jasper. "We can just meet in the school library or at the diner or something if that's ok."

Jasper nodded and then Mr. Hummel got back up and began teaching class normally. "Alright, class. Let's focus up and start learning about the Crossing of the Delaware."

As Veronica started taking notes, Rosalie hit Emmett for the third time that day. "You can't invite her to our house, you idiot!"

"Why not? She barely has a scent. Even Jasper can handle it," Emmett whispered so that only their heightened ears could hear. "I really like her."

"You don't even know her," Jasper said, shaking his head and smirking. "You know not one thing about her."

"Uh, her name is Veronica," Emmett said in a 'duh' tone. Rosalie rolled her eyes and Jasper snickered. "She really likes chicken nuggets based on how many she ate at lunch. She's got a nice car. She likes Always Sunny. I like Always Sunny. She smells like strawberries."

"That's not even technically four things," Rosalie snapped. "You just think she's a hot girl in a short skirt. Stop objectifying her and forget about the human."

"Fine," Emmett muttered, though they could all tell that he didn't mean it. Even Veronica, who was listening with an amused smile.

Veronica couldn't get out of school fast enough when it ended. She didn't even want to take her signed slip by the office but knew she had to. It wasn't that she hated her first day. She kind of enjoyed just going to school like normal. It was just that she wasn't expecting to see vampires.

She wasn't even scared of them, but she still felt the need to go home and call Sam and do research together over the phone. But if Veronica told Sam about the Cold Ones, he might tell Dean, and Dean would come and try to kill them, vegetarian or not. And that would lead to Dean probably dying.

When she made it to the parking lot, she paused. Of course, the Cullens had to park their cars next to hers.

"Here she comes," Emmett said, watching Veronica come out of the school and make her way over to them, or well, her own car.

"Emmett, dude, it's not smart falling for a human," Nicholas said. "But for the love of god, could you act a little cooler? You're acting like a thirteen-year-old boy who's never kissed a girl."

"I mean, it has been almost a hundred years since he's kissed a girl," Alice chimed in, her tinkling laugh sounding through the air.

"Just don't be a dork if you insist on talking to her," Jasper said, scoffing.

"I can be cool," Emmett said, leaning against Edward's car, which was coincidently by the driver's side of Veronica's car. "I'm not a dork."

"Whatever you need to tell yourself, Big Guy."

If Emmett could blush, his face would've matched the paint on the Impala as Veronica spoke, a teasing note in her voice. She smiled at him as she climbed in her car, starting the engine. After rolling the windows down, she began to back out of her space.

Emmett, quickly trying to think of something impressive, bent down to look at her through the window with a smirk. "Nice car. Did daddy buy it for you?"

Veronica matched his smirk and slipped a pair of yellow heart-shaped sunglasses over her green eyes. "Daddy's dead. Mommy too."

Then she peeled out of the parking lot with "Cherry Bomb" by The Runaways blasted through the speakers, leaving behind an absolutely mortified Emmett Cullen.

Nicholas patted Emmett on the back before climbing in the Jeep. "Way to be cool, man."

"So, what are you doing now," Sam asked over the phone.

"Cooking dinner."

"You're cooking?" The disbelief was clear in his tone, making Veronica scoff.

"I'm putting Eggo waffles in the toaster which counts as cooking."

Sam chuckled. "You should really eat healthier, but I know you're not going to."

The toaster dinged and her two waffles popped up. After plating them and covering them in syrup, Veronica sat on her couch and continued talking to her youngest older brother. "So, how was the hunt?"

"Went standard. We barbecued the Wendigo and Dean had time to spare so he's hooking up with a waitress that we saved."

"Of course, he is," Veronica said, laughing. Then she paused, figuring she should tell her brother what was happening. She might regret it but at the end of the day, she knew to not lie to him. "Hey Sam, you remember that case we worked in Virginia? Mystic Falls?"

"You mean the one with that weird species of vampires? Cold Ones, right?"

"Um, yeah. That one."

"Why are you asking? That was like three years ago," he said.

"What if theoretically, I might've found a couple of them at my school—"

"What!?" Sam exclaimed, no doubt probably jumping to his feet. "I'll get Dean and we'll—"

"No, no, no," Veronica rushed to stop him. She probably shouldn't have told him to begin with. "They have gold eyes just like that Stefan guy, so that means they drink animal blood, right? And I've done the research. They moved here over a year and a half ago and there have been no disappearances in Forks or any of the surrounding towns. They're harmless. I even called Stefan and he vouched for them. He knows the leader of their coven. I just thought I'd let you know that they're here."

"Veronica," Sam said, sighing. "They aren't harmless. They're stronger and faster than normal vampires. And Stefan's friend Caroline said that they have even worse control. Plus, Stefan could move things with his mind. What if any of the Cold Ones at your school have powers?"

"I think one does," she muttered. "But it's not that big of a deal. Sam, I can take care of myself and you know it."

"That doesn't change the fact that you're a teenager!"

"Yes, but most teenagers aren't half-human half-angel hybrids who were raised to hunt all things supernatural," Veronica replied before shoving her mouth full of waffles. "Don't come."

"If you didn't want us to come, why did you tell me? Because now I'll have to tell Dean and you know he won't take no for an answer."

"You could just not tell Dean."

"Veronica—"

"I'm basically invincible. If Dean comes and tries to pick a fight, he could be killed and we're running out of miracles in the resurrection department. Don't tell him. He worries too much."

Sam sighed. "You know why he worries. You remind him so much— "

"Of your mother, I know," she said softly. "But I can take care of myself and you both know it. I'm literally under God's protection. Keeping the Winchester family alive is more important to Heaven than wiping out Nephilim."

Sam was silent over the line as he thought. After a few moments, he sighed. "Fine. I'll keep quiet for now. But if anything happens, you call me. Do not hesitate to smite them if you need to."

"Thanks, Sammy."

"Just be careful, Ron."

"Always am."

"Well, that's just not true," Sam said, chuckling. "You constantly get yourself into life and death situations."

"Runs in the family," she said, shrugging. "On another note, I think I'm gonna try out for cheerleading."

Sam let out a loud laugh. "You? A cheerleader? God, Dean will have a field day with that."

"So? Isn't this the whole point of staying in one place for the rest of the year. Jessica said they're looking for a new member because Kacey Sanderson got pregnant over Christmas break. And we both know how athletically inclined I am."

"Well, I hope you make the team. Just don't go tossing any teenage girls through the roof with that super strength."

"No promises. I'm gonna go get started on some homework. Call me if you need me, but—"

"But don't need you," Sam finished for her. "Bye Veronica."

"Night Sammy. Love you."
