《The Insemination》Chapter Twenty-Eight

"Her name is Irina. Irina Hathaway," I tell the nurse for what feels like the twentieth time. She moves her blonde hair from in front of her eyes as she clicks the keys on the keyboard. "Can you please just show me to her room! Please!" I cry as I try to sound as polite as I can yet the anger and frustration drown it out.
"Ma'am I am sorry but she seems to be in a private room and the only one that can go in, is the one who put her there. Maybe-," the heavy set nurse says as she looks at me with an annoyed face.
"Maybe you can just show me where her damn room is!" I shout as I feel tears stream down my cheeks. The tears make my vision blurry and the more I wipe them, more come out. "Just tell me where her room is! Please! Please," I cry as my voice starts to crack.
Feeling my body start to fall, Thomas moves in to grab me and holds me close as he keeps me from falling. "Shhh," he says trying to sooth me. Glancing at his face to see if he would give me that "Everything will be okay" look, I see nothing. Only tears and pain as well as something I never see before, fear. Fear of her being dead.
Feeling as if the life from me starts to be taking away, my sobs soon quite, but the tears continue to flow. Feeling a small burst of energy to fight with the nurse again and fight my way through, I don't move. I stand stuck in shock.
"She's gone. My best friend is gone. No, no, no, no, no," I start to repeat as I feel my loud sob build again.
"Did you say you are looking for Irina?" I hear a soft, yet deep voice ask. Feeling goosebumps grow across my arm, I pick my head up from being buried in Thomas's chest as the voice sounds to familiar. Recently familiar. Looking up, my eyes come in contact with a man with red hair. Connecting the voice to what I heard in my vision, this man is the blurry person. He's the man Irina told me she went out to the cafe with.

Noah.
Feeling my heart start to beat fast. I want to scream and run to beat his face in, but something tells me to stay. Instead, I look at him with wide and anger eyes as I remember what he is, and what he'd done. "What the hell are you doing here?" I ask wiping away a tear.
"You said you are looking for Irina? I put her in the private room. I can tak-," he says but I do not give him the satisfaction to finish his sentence. Stepping away from Thomas's embrace, I walk to Noah and look him in his eyes.
"Take me to her," I say without hesitation as she is my main concern.
Nodding his head, he turns around and starts to walk in a fast pace with Thomas and me right on his trail. Passing rooms by rooms, my eyes wander to each door thinking whatever is behind the door to Irina's room is going to be the worst.
Feeling as if the walk to her room is taking hours more than minutes, I notice Noah's walk starting to slow up. Feeling my chest rise and fall heavily, I try to fight back the tears eager to break through.
"Here," Noah says as he stops at a large door. The door is pure white, with just a star as a number. Noah puts his hand on the doorknob and takes a deep breath. Opening his eyes, opens the door to the room.
The room is a deep vanilla color as the lighting in the room is from a touch of dim lighting from a lamp next to the bed. The navy blue curtains are closed, and a navy blue furniture set sits against the wall. A flat screen television is up on a wooden stand as the room as a closed door which I assume is the bathroom, and the hospital bed in the middle of the room.
My hands fly to my mouth to muffle my screams. Falling to my knees, I start to cry. "Irina," I say passing it as a whisper as I sob louder and louder. Feeling strong arms around me, Thomas holds me from behind as he cries with me.

Irina is laying on the bed with tubes in her mouth, needles in her arm, and hooked up to machinery, with a faint heartbeat monitor echoing in the room. Getting the strength to stand, Thomas helps me the rest of the way but holds me tight as we walk to her. Both of Irina's eyes are closed shut and swollen as cuts are across her face. She has bruises across her head, cheeks, and neck. Seeing how the covers covered her body, I figured they have minor scratches as the other part of her body that is visible is her arms with one being in a cast, and the other in bandages. Her left leg is hanging in a stretcher with a cast wrapped around it.
Hesitating to reach out and touch her bandaged hand, I watch as my own hands tremble. "What happen?" I feel myself ask.
"She was in a car wreck," Noah says with sadness in his voice.
"Where were you?" I ask with anger starting to replace my sadness. Remembering that they were out together, and my vision, I start to think of a hundred things. Quickly turning around to face him, I march in his directions. "Where were you!" I shout. Thomas quickly grabs me and holds me back.
"Amelia calm down," he tells me.
"Where the fuck where you? How did she get in a wreck and you find her? Did you just watch as it happen?" I shout not even thinking about the words flying out of my mouth with hatred.
"I would never!" Noah shouts back.
"Whoa man, that is my fiance you are talking to. Watch it," Thomas warns.
Noah places his hands up and takes a step back. "We left from the cafe, took our separate ways, and before I knew it, flashing lights were passing by me. I turned around and went to see what the commotion was. When I arrived, she was stuck in the car with the car being smashed in on all sides. They had to take the car apart to get her out. The doctors don't even know how she was breathing when they found her. She woke up not to long ago, panicked, and stopped breathing. She was gone for minutes, but they were able to save her."
Noah looks away as if he wants to drop tears of his own, and I bury my face back into Thomas's chest as he holds me close. "I can't believe she died," I say out loud. Memories rush through my head from the day we met, to our first slumber party, to her moving, coming back, birthday parties, my engagement, and her pregnancy.
Feeling my chest stop and my heart sink more, my eyes go wide. "No," I say. "What of the baby? Did the baby make it?" I ask rushing to Noah and taking his arms in mine while shaking him.
"What baby?" Noah asks looking at me in confusion and a bit of anger as he says the word like its foreign.
"Her ba-," I say as a strong powerful voice overthrows mine.
"Where is she!" I hear someone shout in the distance. Knowing that strong voice from anywhere, my eyes go wide. The name comes out of both of our mouths as Noah looks like he is on alert mode and ready to rip someone's head off.
"Ezra."
