《The Insemination》Chapter Twenty-Two

Fiddling with the design on my dark red dress, I yawn from the sudden urge to sleep. Looking down at my belly, I smile as I remember the excitement when I saw the plus sign on the pregnancy test. Tapping my brown cowgirl boots on the floor, I fix my white scarf around my next and turn my attention back to the college professor.
"That is all we will learn for today," Mr. Robert says as he closes his text book and takes off his black reading glasses. "I want you all to email me the work when you are finished, and as you all know," he says with a pause.
"If you don't turn it in on time, then don't bother to do the work," the class finishes for him as we say it in unison.
Mr. Robert made sure we understood that college is far different from high school. In high school you could turn in late work, but Mr. Robert made sure we knew that at a University, that was not tolerated. A girl decided to turn in her work late and no matter how beautiful and how much she batted her eyelashes, she received an F for late entry. He even told her that her paper was outstanding and that next time she better turn it in on time.
As students start to stand up and exit the classroom, I open my backpack and load my books and laptop inside. Reaching for my last book, I pick it up and a piece of paper falls out of.
Reaching down to grab it, I huff as I struggle to reach for it but as I see a pair of brown Timberlands walk in front of my desk, I pause. Noticing that they are picking up the piece of paper, I sit up in my desk and meet a pair of deep green eyes.
"Here," his deep voice with an accent says as he hands me the piece of paper. He runs his other hand though his long red hair that stops at his shoulders and smiles. I notice his beard is also the same color as his hair as dark freckles fall across his nose.
"Thank you," I say finding myself mesmerized by his deep green eyes. Reaching my hand out to his stretched out hand, I take the paper from him and stick it in my bag. Zipping up my backpack, I sit back in my desk and huff once again.
Standing up from the desk, I look at my bag and realize that it has a lot of weight to it and it would be bad for me to carry it considering the fact that I am pregnant. As I reach down for it, a pair of fair skin hands reach down and pick up my backpack for me.

"Allow me," says his deep voice again. "Is it okay if I walk you to your car? I wouldn't want you to carry it so far. What kind of gentlemen would I be if I did?"
Thinking about the fact that I don't have to carry my backpack, I take a deep breath considering the safety of my baby. "Sure. Thank you," I say finding myself getting lost in his eyes once again. Standing up from the desk, I side smile at him. "I wouldn't want to make you something your not."
Are you flirting? Stop flirting! What's wrong with you Irina? Focus!
Stepping out in front of him, I walk out of the classroom with him coming to my side. "So how long have you been enrolled?" he asks me as we walk in the direction of the elevator.
"This is my last year," I smile, proud of my accomplishment. "This has been the longest four years of my life, but worth it."
"What do you plan to do after it?" he asks looking me in my eyes.
Looking away, I turn my attention back in front of me to help prevent me from tripping over my feet. "I plan to open my own café," I smile again as I think about how much that has been a dream of mine since I was young. "What about you?"
"Me?" he asks laughing. "I graduate this year as well."
"Congratulations," I smile. "How long have you been here?"
"It feels like forever, but I feel like I can now go ahead and move forward with my life. You know?"
"I think I understand what you mean," I say looking at him with a side smile. Noticing him look into my eyes once again, I quickly look away and watch a girl squeal in shock as her boyfriend greets her with flowers.
She is one of the lucky ones in life.
"Why do you do that?" he asks breaking the sudden silence.
"Do what?"
"Look away when I look in your eyes."
"Ah," I say nodding my head. "They are unique and sometimes people don't like unique. My eyes intimidate other people at times. One thing I learned when growing up was to keep my head down. If we would've went to the same school, you wouldn't have noticed me."
"Don't," he says with a hint of anger in his voice.
"Excuse me?" I ask a bit confused.

"Don't doubt your uniqueness. You are beautiful Irina. And if we were in school when younger, I would've noticed you ninety-nine percent of the time."
"And what about the one percent?" I ask finding myself bold enough to say.
"The one percent would've been me focusing on how special you are."
Feeling my breath getting caught in my chest, I blink rapidly as my heartbeat starts to quicken. Finally making our way to the elevator, I see one of my classmates. Rushing to me, she stops as she notices the mystery man at my side.
"Irina, the elevator is down," she says huffing as her teal flowing dress catches up with her, falling against her legs. "I tried to tell you after class but you were talking."
"That sucks," I frown, not wanting to go down the stairs.
"They should be up and running tomorrow. It's been so long since you've been at school, are you okay?" she asks with concern on her face.
I take a deep breath as I recall my run in with Jason and try to smile. "I'm fine. I was just getting through some things. We can catch up later okay?"
"Okay," she smiles. "I will text you later."
Waving as she walks away, I sigh and frown. "I didn't know the elevator was broken," I tell him.
"It's fine. I can walk you to your car still. We have the flight of stairs. You can't get rid of me that easily," he says with a smile.
"Are you sure?" I ask.
"Yes."
Doing a side smile, I turn left towards the stairs as I speak to those speaking as we walk pass them.
Remembering that I haven't formally introduced myself, I turn to him as we are walking and out stretch my hand.
"Sorry for the late introduction, but my name is Irina," I say with a smile.
"Pleasure to meet you Irina. My name is Noah."
"Pleasure to meet you too. So, think you are ready for graduation? I am sure it is going to be very grand."
"I am. I just do not know what the world will bring afterwards," Noah laughs to himself. "What about you? Your friend said you haven't been to school, have you been okay? If it is not to bold of me to ask."
"It's fine. I was going through a few things but everything is better now," I smile to myself feeling the need to rub my stomach as I think about my baby.
"What is your major in?" he asks as I notice he is holding a door open for me.
"Thank you," I say walking through the door. "My major is in Baking and Pastry. My dream is to become a Pastry Chef. Hint, the reason why I am going to open a café. As I said, it has been a dream of mine since I was young. Whenever I bake I just seem to get lost in it as if it is the melody of my life. My hands just take over and it feels like a small piece of heaven. I remember the first time I did it I burst the piping bag and icing shot up my arm and went everywhere," I say showing him how much with my hands.
"I soon got better and better and it got easier and easier," I smile as I remembering the pure joy that filled me when I completed my first cupcake.
"You must really love baking and even talking about it. We are at your car," Noah says pulling me out of my thought.
Looking around, I notice the thick concrete walls, the change in the air as it is now a cool breeze instead of the schools warm temperature, and that we are indeed in front of my car.
"Oh," I laugh to myself. Getting my keys out of my purse, I unlock the car as I walk to the driver side with Noah walking with me. "Thank you again," I say taking my backpack from him and putting it in the back seat.
Closing the back door, I notice that Noah is still standing by the car. I walk to the drivers side of the car and open the door. "Is there anything else you need?" I ask looking at him in confusion.
"There is," he chuckles as he rubs a hand in his hair and looks away as he starts to blush. "I have wanted to ask you this question for a while now, but somehow I go scared," he chuckles. "I was wondering if I could take you out sometime. Not for anything fancy, maybe just a small bite to eat at a café?" His boyish action makes his deep green eyes soften.
