CHAPTER 5:

"If I let you know, I'm here for you." ~Little Things, One Direction.

HARRY'S POV

Two days had passed since that conversation— or whatever you want to call it —at the library with Zayn. And yes that means it's Wednesday. And yes that means I've to give Zayn his homework which I had stayed up all night to complete.

I know I should have refused to do it, and should have gone to my friends for support but the truth is, I didn't want to upset Zayn. I wasn't afraid of his anger, I just wanted to make him happy. Call me stupid, call me a masochist, but it's the truth.

It was a while before I had to get to class and meet up with my friends. I was returning my books in the library when I heard his voice again. "Curly!" Looks like he knows where to find me.

Well, Curly is way better than twat. Almost sounds like a term of endearment.

"Got my work, wannabe-hipster?"

"What?" I asked slowly, holding in a chuckle. Did he just call me a wannabe-hipster? Weird insult indeed.

He blushed. The fudge? Zayn Malik blushing? "Yeah." Then his usual scowl slipped into place. "So, the homework?"

I nodded and rummaged around in my bag and finding it, offered the binder to him. He snatched it out of my hands, but still his fingers managed to touch mine for a second. And not to sound cheesy or anything but I swear I felt tingles on my skin.

I looked up from my hand to Zayn's face and I guess maybe, probably, kinda, sorta, he had felt the same? 'Cos he was frowning at the ground, and looked like he was thinking hard.

"Um, Zayn? You ok?" I asked slowly, his name rolling off my tongue.

When I spoke his name, he snapped his caramel brown eyes back up at me, shot me a glare and stalked off in the opposite direction.

That was weird. One minute, he's the rough and tough guy, and then the next he's the blushing and broody guy. Zayn Malik is seriously bipolar.

After school, I was hanging out with Niall— my new blond Irish friend —at my house, who had promised to teach me to not suck at the guitar.

Mum wasn't home. At least she had cared enough to tell me that she was out with some friends. Which friends? I don't know. And that worries me.

I had my Dad's old guitar with me. Even though I hated the man with a burning passion because of how he'd left me and Mum when we had needed him the most, I still kept this guitar 'cos it reminded me of the good times. When he used to play a new song every night to a seven year old me before bed.

My Dad is or was, a music composer. Don't know if he still is. He was the one who had taught me and encouraged me to sing, he was the one who had taught me to play the piano and the kazoo as well.

"You ok, Harry?"

I looked up at Niall. "Hmm. Just caught up in some memories," I replied and he nodded understandingly.

"Ok then, let's begin the Guitar Lessons 101 class!"

"Alright, so you play it like this: first the C chord. This is D minor. Yeah that's it! You got it!" And it went on like this.

So after hours filled with lots of guitar strumming and junk food munching, I finally got the hang of almost all the common chords.

Niall's an awesome teacher, but he insists that I'm a great learner as well. Guess we're both awesome. Haha.

"You got the basics now, right?" Niall asked and I nodded.

"So, play me somethin'," he requested cheekily, placing his chin in his hands.

"Uh... okay." Should I sing too? I decided to play a song that I wrote years ago. I had composed it on the piano, but lets see how it works on the guitar.

I adjusted the taut strings and strummed them. When I found the right tune, I started to play and then naturally, I began to sing as well.

Don't try to make me stay,

Or ask if I'm ok,

I don't have the answer

Don't make me stay the night,

Or ask if I'm alright,

I don't have the answer

Heartache doesn't last forever,

I'll say I'm fine

Midnight ain't no time for laughing,

When you say goodbye

It makes your lips so kissable,

And your kiss, unmissable

Your fingertips, so touchable,

And your eyes, irresistible

I plucked the last chord, ending the song. I opened my eyes to see Niall gawking at me.

"Was it that bad?" I joked. Niall blinked and shook his head in denial.

"No mate that was amazing! Beautiful, wow I don't— don't have any words! That song, your voice everything was just went together perfectly Harry! You're really talented!" Niall finished with an honest grin, jumping on the couch excitedly. By now, I was blushing furiously. I blush anytime someone compliments me.

"Thanks Niall." I replied honestly, ruffling my curls shyly. "But please don't tell anyone else. Music is my secret, my release. I don't want anyone else to know. And no one except Louis and Dani— and now you —know."

Niall nodded with wide eyes. "You're secret's safe with me," he smiled cutely and it was really hard not to trust him. I smiled back.

"So who did you write it for?" I understood he was asking about the song.

"I wrote it when I was 15. I had this massive crush on a guy in my school with amazing eyes." But that crush was not as massive as the crush I have on a certain black haired boy.

I continued. "I finally had gotten the courage to ask him out, he'd said yes, and we had a good relationship. But then I had to move to London, so we had to break up. I wrote this song during our relationship."

"Wait what? A GUY?" Niall burst out.

"Uh, yeah."

"So, um, that means you're gay too...?"

"Ye— aha! I knew it! My gay-dar never lies!" I stated proudly.

Niall chuckled. "Your what?"

"Oh. Dani calls my gay radar, gay-dar," I air-quoted. "It can tell you who's like you, like who's attracted to guys," I explained humorously, rolling my eyes.

"Huh. My gay-dar is pretty weak then." Niall pouted and I chuckled.

"And Harry?" he asked slowly.

"Hmm?"

"I'm a closeted gay. So this is my secret. Can you keep mine too?"

I nodded. "Sure. And now you know 2 of my secrets Niall. Nobody knows about me either," I shrugged.

"So, how do you like everything so far Niall?" I asked, changing the subject.

He perked up. "It's the craic! The school's awesome, and everything is way different than back in Ireland. All of yer so nice to me!"

I smirked. "Oh really now? And I guess Louis' the nicest?"

He blushed. "Ye-yeah he's great. Y'all are."

"So here's a fact for you Niall: along with my gay-dar, I have a sense of when someone likes somebody and you, my friend like Louis Tomlinson."

He blushed. "Ok! Yes! I admit it! I like Louis! But what do ya think I can do?! He likes that Manchester girl! Does he even like guys?" He asked me frantically.

"Calm down leprechaun. I know it sounds unbelievable with me being his best friend, but I'm still not sure about Louis' preference. That may be because he's never had a serious relationship, with neither a girl nor a boy. His supposedly crush on that Eleanor girl is just... I dunno. You don't worry about it." Niall was processing this new information, when I added,

"Don't worry, Dani and I will try to set you up with Louis one way or another. Besides, you'll never know 'til you'll make a move."
