《Hybrid's Possession: Possessive Alpha's Book 1》Our Past Memories

Ellie
After hours of working on my powers we decide to take a break. It still hits me how I'm sitting with my biological mother and best friend Liz at the same time, in the same place. Life works wonders sometimes.
"Please tell me everything you've been up to all these years." My mother looks at me with hope in her eyes.
"Well, I was adopted shortly after the accident, by two wonderful people. Their names were Carla and Arthur. Both were Fae." I must look away from my mother, tears are forming in my eyes.
After years of going through life without them, the pain is still there. "Even though they thought I was human they loved me anyway. I'm not completely in the dark of the supernatural world. I did learn a few things from them, as well as Liz and her family." Smiling I look toward my best friend who is more like a sister to me in every way but blood.
"Yup we met each other her first day in Kindergarten. She was the new little girl in my class. Everyone thought she was weird because of her hair color, I thought it was beautiful." She lifts her hand into my hair and plays with it.
"She told me she was adopted, and I thought that was the coolest thing. What were my exact words again?" She looks to me for the answer.
"You're adopted that is so flipping cool. You have no idea how lucky you are." We both laugh at the memory of the first day we met.
"I thought it was amazing how two Fae's could welcome her into their hearts no questions asked. You know that's practically unheard of." She looks to my mother who is nodding her head, with sadness in her eyes.
"I mean sure we all live amongst one another, well for the most part, but families never intertwine. They always stick to their own kind." Liz explains.

She's unfortunately correct, humans stay around humans as much as possible. The ones that know about our world anyways. There are still many that think it's only stories, and that the ones that talk about it are crazy. Then, you have many supernatural's that refuse to have anything to do with humans at all.
Case in point the Monroe family, although since being with Kayden I'm learning more and more about how evil most of them are. Thinking they are the ones that are fighting things like that the most. But not Carla and Arthur, they were two of the kindest people I know.
When they found out I made a friend that first day of school they were thrilled. They didn't even care she was a witch. Together we walked right over to where Liz was with her parents, and they introduced themselves. From that moment on Liz and her family became my family.
"So, what kind of trouble did you two get into together?" My mother has a sudden spark in her eyes. I can tell she's excited to know about everything. I'm sure its both a joy and difficult for her to hear about. Since we were robbed of our time together for years because of Kayden's father.
We tell her all about the times we snuck out as young teenagers. Walking the streets, meeting friends, and playing man hunt. About the time we took the milk carts from the convenient store so I could have end tables in my room. All about my birthdays, Christmases, and other holidays.
Hours later it began to get dark. So, we made our way to my mother's tent. The one she will be sleeping in tonight. At first, we all sat there in silence watching the fire. Truth be told I was afraid, to ask the question I really wanted to know. A huge part of me knew she was waiting for me to ask it.
Taking a deep breath, I looked to her and asked, "what has your life been like mom?"

Tears formed in her eyes, and I watched as they fell down her cheeks. She quickly wiped them away. I wasn't sure if they were tears for what she lived through all this time or because I called her mom. Maybe both?
"In one word horrible. Most of the time I was being taunted by monsters. Beaten, forced to do degrading things, constantly in pain. The times he wasn't torturing me or using my body I was forced to use my gift of sight. To show them what would happen soon." She pauses a moment.
"They would use what I saw to their advantage against enemies. Taking down many families that were low on the power scale. Taking out certain human families that worked with the supernatural's. Doing everything in their power to take control."
"I would lay on the filthy mattress he had placed on the floor, crying my eyes out most of the time. Other times I would find myself wishing for death. Praying to the Gods that they would take me and let my soul free."
She wraps her arms around herself, almost as though trying to protect herself again. She's living back there, remember all this is hurting her. "You don't have to say anymore mom." She looks at me and I hope she can see the trueness of my words.
Bringing her hand to my face, she smiles at me. "Mostly, my love I thought about you. How you had such a big personality when you were a little girl. So independent and brave. You weren't afraid of anything. Especially, if Kayden was around."
"I don't feel very brave right now. I'm not ready for any of this. People are going to die in this war, there will be blood flowing, and screams heard around this realm."
Giving me a sad smile, my mother takes my hand with the one she had placed on my face. She gives it a squeeze, "such is the way of this world honey, you must fight for what you believe in, and if we do not the monsters of this world will win."
I know she's right, but it doesn't change the fact how terrified I am. What if anyone I love doesn't make it? What if I die tomorrow or in the next couple of days? How could I or any of them live the rest of their lives without the people they love in this world?
"I know that look, stop thinking so many girls." I look to Liz; she has a stern look on he face. She knows me so well.
"Will it be devastating, yes but it has to be done. We will all fight, and I promise you we will take the evil of this world down. The biggest one being Kayden's father. He will parish, ask me how I know this." She looks smug.
Rolling my eyes, I ask "how do you know this oh great one?"
She laughs, "because Kayden is going to finish him. He tried to kill the love of his life, the person that means everything to him sixteen years ago. He's not going to allow him to continue breathing." She captures my eyes with hers.
Knowing she's right, I take a deep breath to calm my quaking body and tell her so. Of course, in good old Liz fashion she gloats about it for the rest of our time talking. My mother listens to our childish banter with one another. Seeing the smiles on both their faces I know that I will fight for the ones I love. Just getting my mother back I'll be damned if I allow anyone to harm the people I love.
