《New Earth: Supergirl》Chapter 44

"Thanks again for helping us move in Lena." Sam Arias said to Lena as she helped her and Ruby unpack boxes.
"It's my pleasure. Trust me, I know from experience that it helps to have someone you already know there when you move to a new city." Lena said.
"You seem to have adjusted well though." Sam said.
"Yeah I have. I actually managed to make another friend who's become like a sister to me as well." Lena said.
"Really, who?" Sam asked.
"Her name is Kara Danvers." Lena said.
"As in the founder and CEO of Danvers Daily News?" Sam asked and Lena nodded.
"I'm actually helping her plan her wedding." Lena said.
"Well, I hope I get to meet her, though there's a different woman here that Ruby's hoping to meet." Sam said and Lena laughed.
"She's still a Supergirl fan huh?" Lena asked, thinking that some things never changed.
"She's also a fan of Batwoman and the Flash and of course, Superman, but Supergirl will always be her top favorite hero." Sam said and Lena laughed.
"I have to agree. I've actually met both of them and Supergirl is much better than Superman." Lena said.
"Wait, you've met Supergirl? Don't let Ruby hear you say that, otherwise you'll never hear the end of it." Sam said and Lena laughed.
"I don't know. Maybe she'll end up meeting her hero after all." Lena said.
"Maybe." Sam said, though she doubted it, right as there was a knock on the door.
"Who could that be?" Sam asked as she went to answer the door, not seeing the knowing look on Lena's face.
When Sam opened her door, she was surprised to see a tall black man who for some reason looked slightly familiar to her, standing there.
"Can I help you sir?" Sam asked.
"You must be the new neighbors. My name is J'onn J'onzz. I live a few doors down and I wanted to come and meet the newest member of the neighborhood." J'onn said, since that technically wasn't a lie, since he had gotten a real house for himself, his father and his daughters to live in in the same neighborhood when they'd first arrived on Earth.

Sam immediately relaxed.
"Oh, well, it's nice to meet you Mr. J'onzz. That name doesn't sound human." Sam said.
"It's not. It will all make sense in a moment. I hope." J'onn said as to Sam's surprise, he placed his hand to her temple and his eyes glowed red and suddenly, Sam's mind was flooded by memories of things that had happened in another life, along with things she'd never known before, including Supergirl's identity.
"What was that?" Sam asked as she panted heavily as she tried to get her bearings.
"That Sam was J'onn waking you up to the truth of this reality." Lena said.
"I remember everything. I remember that I was Reign, everything I did as her." Sam said.
"That wasn't you." Lena said immediately.
"I also remember that Supergirl is Kara." Sam said.
"I thought I'd save Kara the trouble." J'onn explained.
"Why would you do this? Why would you make me remember everything I did?" Sam asked.
"It wasn't because we wanted to Sam. We did it because it was the only way you'd believe us if we told you that we needed your help to stop Reign from ever appearing in this new world." Lena said.
"What do you mean?" Sam asked as Lena took a deep breath before answering.
"Sam, in this new reality, Reign still exists, but right now, she's still trapped in the dark valley." Lena said.
"Then why did you wake me up?" Sam demanded.
"Because we need your help to make sure that she never comes to exist in this world." J'onn said.
"What do you mean?" Sam asked.
"We need to get to the Dark Valley to stop Reign, Purity and Pestilence from ever arriving on this earth and the only way we can do that is with someone who has a direct connection to the valley and unfortunately, Kara no longer does, which means that we need you." Lena said.
"Wait, why can't you use that black rock that Kara used to send us to the dark valley last time?" Sam asked, since she desperately wanted to avoid having to go back to that terrible place.

"Using the harun-el is out of the question, since you remember Red Daughter?" Lena asked.
"You mean the crazy Supergirl clone that Lex used to frame Kara for attacking the white house?" Sam asked, since she remembered seeing that news report and unlike most people, she and Ruby had refused to believe it was true and they'd been right. Sam remembered how smug Ruby had looked when she'd told all her friends she was right.
"Yeah, we discovered that she was created when Kara touched the Harun-El and since Lex is currently on the run, we want to avoid recreating those circumstances. Please Sam. You know I wouldn't ask this of you if we had any other choice." Lena said as Sam took a deep breath.
"Fine, if only because I do not want that monster to return and threaten Ruby. Again." Sam said and Lena nodded.
"I know it's hard, but this time, you'll be going in with Kara and as many of her teammates as we can safely send in with you. You'll beat all three of them again and who knows, maybe this time you'll get to keep the superpowers." Lena said and Sam laughed.
"Maybe. But how would I explain all this to Ruby?" Sam asked.
"Well, we could wake her up like we did you." J'onn suggested.
"Absolutely not. I feel bad enough that she got dragged into this once before, I refuse to allow it to happen again." Sam said.
"Allow what to happen again?" Ruby asked as she finally revealed herself from the place she'd been hiding.
"Ruby. How much of that did you hear?" Sam asked.
"Enough to know that whatever is going is something that concerns me." Ruby said.
"Ruby, please, trust me, you don't want to be involved in this." Sam said.
"But you do? Mom, from what I heard, whatever it is Lena and this man are doing, it's not something that you should be doing too." Ruby said.
"Sam, I think it will be easier for Ruby to understand if she knows the whole truth." Lena said and Sam sighed, since she knew that Ruby wouldn't give up until she got the truth.
"Fine, do it." Sam said, hating herself for letting J'onn do this, but at the same time, she knew that Ruby had a right to know, regardless of how she felt about it.
"Do what?" Ruby asked, right as J'onn placed his hand to Ruby's temple and restored her memories, which in turn, knocked Ruby out.
"What happened?" Sam asked.
"Ruby's younger, which means that her system was a bit more overwhelmed than yours was. She'll be fine though." J'onn assured her.
"Good. I just hope I did the right thing." Sam said.
"Sam, keeping her in the dark about this, it wouldn't have ended well. Especially if you do end up getting to keep your powers this time around. I nearly destroyed my relationship with Kara because of how I reacted when I found out her secret identity." Lena admitted.
"I don't even want to know." Sam said.
"You're right, you don't. Because then you might start to look at Lena the way you would her mother and brother." J'onn said.
"That's a bit harsh, but fair." Lena said.
"Why don't we take Ruby to the tower, since hopefully being there will help distract her when she comes too and will allow the rest of us to talk." J'onn said as he picked Ruby up and Lena nodded as she activated her transmatter watch to open a portal.
"Trust me Sam. What's on the other side is something you're going to want to see." Lena said and Sam nodded as she followed her friends through the portal.
