A moment of silence descended over the building.

The person who had oh-so-graciously shut up after her stinging slap, stared back dumbstruck at her audacity as he nursed the side of his face. Hyein's hand stung from the impact and she stood there stunned at the scene. Oh god, what have I done?!

Hyein didn't plan on hitting him for his rudeness but upon hearing his brash command, her hand, kind of, acted on its own.

"Y-you! Do you know who I am?"

"I don't and I don't care. Just because I'm an intern doesn't mean you can walk all over me. I made a mistake, I admitted that and I apologized for it. Does that give you the right to keep accusing me of something that I have not done and disrespecting me in front of all these people? And it isn't my fault that you don't check what you are reading at a damn speech! So stop yelling at me about some damn paper!"

The silence that followed was even frighteningly ominous. Hyein knew what she had done and she was terrifyingly aware of what was going to happen. However, she didn't wait for a reply as she pulled on her coat and walked out of the building leaving the guy she had slapped to stare after her in disbelief.

Hyein was sure she'll have to face the consequences sooner or later. A part of her wondered what would happen, but she sure didn't wait around to find out. Breathing heavily she walked off towards the nearest bus stop closing her eyes as the afternoon sun shined down on her.

___________

"Waaaaaaaaa~"

"Okay, okay, calm down, calm down my daughter. You need to stop crying and tell me what happened." The voice of her concerned friend crackled on her phone.

"Hoseokie... I'm going to be jobless!" Hyein cried, clutching her phone in one hand as she held a half-melted tub of ice cream in the other. Her face was a mess with her mascara running down her cheeks and covered in snot. A huge pile of tissues lay on the side of her sofa.

"Wait, WHAT? You got fired?!"

"I didn't but tomorrow I will." She bawled out wiping her nose.

Hoseok, her best friend, remained confused so she proceeded to narrate the story of what happened.

Hoseok and Hyein had met at university. He was her classmate at that time and being the diligent and kind student she was, she had one day helped him with a late assignment. Suffice to say, Hoseok never left her side after that incident. The over-zealous extrovert had quickly adopted a reserved Hyein into his friend group and was constantly by her side, always smiling and laughing. Hyein warmed up to him soon and the rest was history.

By the time she had finished her story, loud snorts that suspiciously sounded like laughter erupted from the other end of the call.

"Are you laughing?" Hyein asked pitifully, her voice cracking.

"Bahaha! Girl, why the hell are you crying? You did the right thing!" He exclaimed.

"But Hobi, they are gonna fire me! I slapped a worker who is a few ranks higher than me!" She cried.

"Listen here, Hye. It was not your fault that the papers got mixed up. It was just an accident. You tried to tell him that and you even apologized but he didn't listen to you. So what you did was the right thing to do and if they are going to fire you for standing up for yourself, then they don't deserve you Hyein. You'll surely find a job that'll treat you better."

Hyein dissolved into another fit of tears at his words.

"Hoseokie!" She cried, "This is why you are the best. I love you!"

Chuckles rose from the other end of the phone and Hyein's giggles soon joined his as they blended into a bout of laughter.

"There, there. Are you feeling better now?" He asked as the laughter finally subsided. Hyein nodded her head but then remembered that he couldn't see it so she replied, "Yes, I'm fine."

"Good. Now go get fired, girl! Do it with class!" Hyein snorted at her best friend's choice of words.

"Alright Hobi, I'll call you later then."

"Yes, yes and be sure to tell me how it went."

"Of course. Bye~" Hye-in singsonged as the call ended. Getting up from her sofa, she stretched her hands above her head with a smile. Let's do this Hyein.

__________

Hyein stood hesitantly in front of the tall building of Ethereal.Co that loomed over her in a threatening manner. She was sweating bullets as she clutched the sling of her bag.

Her mind was racing and the constant frown on her face reflected her internal conflict. Briefly, she wondered if she should go and beg the guy for his forgiveness. She instantly shut down on the thought. She had too much pride for that.

With a final determined sigh, she forced herself to walk over to the building, each step steady. If she was going to get fired at least she would do so with dignity. With class, like Hoseok said.

As soon as she had entered the building, whispers rose among the workers. Not so discreet fingers pointed towards her direction while some other gawked at her as she made her way inside. A part of her couldn't help but wonder if it was that big of a deal. Of course, it is! Who am I kidding?

Trying her best to avoid the stares, Hyein walked inside when there was a call.

"Ms. Lee Hyein!"

Tara, the receptionist, was calling out to her, waving her hands with a big smile. What is it? Am I going to get fired through a receptionist?

The smile on Tara's face was not that of glee. It was polite. As Hyein walked towards the front desk, she asked, "Ms. Lee, did you receive the news?"

"Um, no?" Hyein replied hesitantly, puzzled at the receptionist's actions.

"Congratulations! You have been promoted!"

Hyein blinked. Did she hear that right? She didn't say 'promoted', did she?

"Pardon?"

"Yes, it's true. From now on, you'll be working as the secretary of the chairman's son."

"Whoa, whoa wait. Secretary? And the chairman's son?" Hyein repeated incredulously, unable to trust her ears.

"Yes, Mr.Kim Taehyung had specifically asked for you after what happened yesterday," Tara replied, mischievously.

Hyein took a moment to process her words. So she was getting promoted. Wait, does that mean I am not going to get fired? A brilliant dimpled smile spread across her face, her instant relief evident. Hyein couldn't control her excitement as she flapped her hands. Tara smiled back politely watching the girl in front of her on the verge of happy tears. If only she had looked closer, she would have seen the sly glint shining through her eyes. Seeing a movement, her eyes darted past Hyein to the lobby and she straightened.

"Oh, Mr. Kim. Good morning." Tara greeted, respectfully bowing down.

"Good morning." A familiar voice as deep as the ocean breathed from behind and Hyein froze.

No, it can't be...

Slowly, she turned back only to prove her fears true.

For there stood the man with his hands tucked inside the coat pockets of his dark suit as his cole black eyes watched her with an intensity that could melt steel.

He was the man she had slapped.

A slow Cheshire grin spread across his lips as she watched making his eyes glint evilly.

His smile was one that promised vengeance. One that promised a lifelong worth of torture and Hyein was in for it.

Oh, sh*t!
