《The Bad Boy's Decision》Chapter 5: Long time, no see

Sipping cautiously on my champagne, I enjoy the fizz as it bubbles over my tongue and slides smoothly down my throat.

Upbeat music blares from the speakers, mocking me in its happiness; creating an ironic juxtaposition to my true feelings.

With another quick glance around the room, I breath out a sigh of relief when I don't see him.

"Looking for someone?" Jess' voice sounds from beside me, startling me slightly.

I turn my attention to her, locking my eyes straight onto her floor length, lilac dress. The silk-like fabric clings to her body in all the right places, highlighting her beautiful curves; it's colour matching her pale skin perfectly. Her hair is slightly curled and hangs loosely down her back.

I shoot her an assuring smile and bring my glass up to my lips again.

"Nope, just people watching." I say, nonchalantly while taking another sip of the bubbly deliciousness.

Jess doesn't seem convinced; the crease in her forehead being a dead give away. Her face resembles that of someone in pain and I know something is wrong.

"Amelia, I need to tell you something." she declares, placing a gentle hand on my arm.

"Okay, give me your honest opinion. Mr.Blue eyes over by the bar, hot or not?" Anna's voice interrupts our moment, causing Jess to back track a little.

I allow my gaze to travel over to the stranger in question and begin to evaluate his physical appearance.

Definitely hot.

"He seems nice." I say, smiling sweetly at Anna.

She rolls her eyes at me and shakes her head disapprovingly.

"What?" I ask, curious as to why I'm getting such a reaction from her.

"I asked if he is hot, not if he is nice." she says, obviously mocking me.

Well, excuse me for being old fashioned.

I simply shrug my shoulders and offer her a sarcastic smile.

"He's definitely hot and totally checking you out." Jess joins in, smirking at Anna.

Sure enough, the blue-eyed stranger is looking Anna up and down as if he too is weighing up his options.

He catches us looking and raises his glass up in acknowledgement.

"Who is he? Do you know him?" Anna asks Jess, sounding hopeful.

Jess shrugs her shoulders and offers her a tiny smile.

"I have no idea, why don't you go over there and find out." Jess says, shooting Anna a subtle wink.

I roll my eyes at the pair of them and set my glass down on the table. Standing up, I smooth out my dress and turn to leave.

"Well, while you do that; I'm going to pee." I state, already feeling the pressure of my bladder building.

"Wait, Amelia. That thing that I needed to tell you." Jess says, stopping me in my tracks.

I turn to face her, offering her a pained expression.

"Can it wait until after? I've had a lot of champagne." I all but plead with her.

She chuckles slightly, nodding her head as she does so; enabling me to leave.

----

After peeing in what can only be described as the most luxury bathroom known to mankind, I exit; having every intention of heading back and joining Anna and Jess.

Entering the grand hallway, I turn a sharp corner and instantly crash into a moving object.

A pair of large hands come to wrap around my small waist, stopping me from falling and I find my own landing on a very warm, very toned chest.

"Sorry, I was-hi." I say, shock filling my voice.

Of all the people I could crash into, it just had to be him.

"Hi." Aidan says, flashing me a confident smile, although the slight shake in his voice doesn't go unnoticed.

An awkward silence fills the air around us and my attention is suddenly brought to where our hands are currently resting.

The feel of his familiar warmth sends an involuntary spark shooting up my arms and I force myself to take a big step back; putting some much needed distance between us.

His greedy eyes slowly travel down my body, making me feel slightly intimidated under his judging gaze, before finally coming back up and meeting mine. My breath gets stuck in the back of my throat and my heart rate makes a dramatic increase.

"Wow. You look great!" he says, speaking first and ridding any awkward silence surrounding us.

I smile politely at him and of course, return the compliment.

"Thanks, you look great too." I reply, although 'great' really doesn't do Aidan justice.

"Your hair, its lighter." he points out, lifting a hand and gesturing towards my now golden locks.

It had been Anna's idea to dye my hair a lighter colour. 'New hair, new person.' I think were her exact words.

Needless to say; it didn't work.

"Well, they do say blondes have more fun." I reply, instantly cringing at my lame attempt to brighten the mood.

Thankfully, Aidan laughs and hearing that beautiful sound again sends a wave of emotions pulsing through my entire body.

I've missed that laugh.

"...and do they?" he asks, sounding both amused and curious.

I shake my head and start uncontrollably laughing.

Suddenly, all playfulness is lost from his features and he stares at me with this unreadable expression that has me questioning what is going through his mind.

He nervously runs a hand through his thick hair and shuffles from foot to foot.

"I've missed-"

"Aidan!" a woman's voice cuts through, interrupting whatever Aidan was about to say.

I instantly snap my head to the side, locating the voice and lock eyes onto a brunette with shoulder length hair and piercing blue eyes. My guess is she's around our age and judging by the slight sway in her step; she too, is enjoying the champagne.

She's wearing, and very well may I add, a red floor length dress and as she so elegantly struts over to us, her flowery scent attacks my nose.

Upon reaching us, she runs her hand very seductively along Aidans chest and presses her slim figure up against him. My eyes are glued to the action and I know he's watching me watch.

"Your dad is looking for you. Something about taking April home; she's flat out asleep." she says, a strong British accent showing through.

Figuring out exactly who this woman is, I pry my eyes away from them both; looking anywhere but at her touching him.

There is simply not enough champagne at this wedding to erase that image from my memory and I'm not about to torture myself even more by staring at their interaction.

"Okay." Aidan says, awkwardness dripping through his voice.

I can sense them both looking at me but my eyes remain firmly situated to the floor.

Away from them.

"Well, aren't you going to introduce us?" she suddenly asks, humouring Aidan slightly.

I turn my attention back to her and just as I'm about to excuse myself, Aidan stops me.

"Uhh, yeah. Sophie, this is Amelia; a high school friend." he says, gesturing towards me.

I offer Sophie a genuine smile which she gladly returns. A sickening feeling passes through me and the need to pee suddenly hits me again with great force.

"Amelia, this is Sophie; my fiancée." he says, locking his eyes onto mine, probably to gage my reaction.

What the fuck?

Fiancée?

I physically feel the blood drain from my face and the sudden need to scream fills my entire being.

Both of them look to me; Sophie completely oblivious to the battle currently taking place in my head.

Shit, shit, shit, shit balls!

What am I supposed to say to that?

Aidan eyes me, expectantly and says nothing; allowing the information to sink in.

My heart is beating at such a rapid speed that at any moment now, I wouldn't be surprised if the damn things leaps from my chest and lands right on the floor in front of me.

Stick to the plan, Amelia; smile and pretend everything is okay.

"Wow, congratulations! I didn't know." I smile widely at Sophie not even daring to look Aidan in the eye.

He always can tell when I'm lying.

"We only just told people today, really." she says, gushing with pride.

That explains the 'thing' Jess so badly needed to tell me.

Feeling at a loss for words, I respond with a polite smile while silently plotting my escape route.

Get the hell out of here, Amelia!

"Okay well, sorry for interrupting your catch up. I'll leave you to it." she says, threatening to leave us alone.

She places a gentle kiss on Aidan's cheek and lovingly squeezes his upper arm.

Her eyes flicker back to mine and with one last parting smile, she leaves.

I watch as she walks away, not feeling quite brave enough to turn my attention back to the situation at hand.

From beside me, Aidan clears his throat, once again, breaking the awkward silence that seems to have settled around us.

"I'm sorry, I thought- I just- well I don't really know what I thought." he admits, seeming truly conflicted.

His eyes glaze over slightly and the green in them resembles a muddy, mossy colour. They're drowning in guilt; an emotion I've always hated seeing on him.

I shake my head, quick to reassure him.

"It's fine. I'm happy for you." I say through a big, hopefully convincing, smile.

He responds by locking his eyes straight onto mine and takes a small step forward.

Lowering his voice slightly; he replies,

"You always were a terrible lair, Amelia."

I begin to shake my head out of protest but soon give up on the idea.

What's the point, he knows I'm lying anyway.

He offers me a tiny smile which I return and an unspoken word passes between us.

"Well, well, well; look who it is!" Anna's voices comes tumbling down the hall.

Aidan flashes me a knowing smirk before moving his attention to the direction Anna is coming from.

"Anna Stark; long time, no see!" he states, matching her enthusiasm.

Her smile grows wider and as she gets increasingly closer to us and I notice her checking him out.

"Jeez, do live at the gym or something?" she laughs, wrapping her arms around his waist and pulling him into a hug.

She shoots me a seductive wink from over his shoulder and I respond with a quick shake to the head.

Not going to happen Anna, he's a taken man.

"No, I don't but thanks for the compliment." he laughs, pulling away from her hold.

A tense atmosphere begins to form as the three of us just stand there looking at one another. Of course Anna sends me a few suggestive glances, obviously wondering what we were talking about before she got here.

"So how long you here for?" Anna asks, thankfully breaking the tension.

"I'm staying for a month, Sophie is leaving next week." he states, nervously looking to me.

Holy shit, he's here for a month. That's going to make avoiding him that little bit harder.

"Who's Sophie?" Anna asks, not even bothering to hide the disgust in her voice.

She shoots me a questioning look as if I somehow hold all the answers and when she doesn't get any clues from me, she returns her attention back to Aidan.

"Sophie is my fiancée." he whispers, almost as if he's scared to make that statement any louder.

Anna's eyes grow wide, showing off her sapphire blue pools; which just so happen to be drowning with copious amounts of distaste.

I can sense she's finding it difficult trying to hide her true feelings on the matter and I can only pray she doesn't voice those feelings.

"What! You're engaged?" she asks, horror filling her words.

Well, clearly praying didn't work.

She catches my eye and shoots me a 'What the actual fuck' look, to which I reply with a simple shrug of the shoulders.

"Why?" she suddenly blurts out before turning her attention back to him.

"Anna!" I shout, mortified at her reaction to this.

Aidan allows a nervous laugh to fall from his lips and I offer him an apologetic look.

"...because I asked her and she said yes." he says, answering Anna's stupid question.

After a moment of just staring at him, she clears her throat, uncomfortably and slaps on a fake smile.

"Well congratulations!" she announces, the lack of enthusiasm in the voice speaking volumes.

Could she be any more obvious right now?

Aidan smiles but the action doesn't quite reach his eyes.

He's faking it, too.

"Umm, Amelia, can you come with me a sec? I have a slight outfit disaster." she states, dramatically gesturing for me to follow her.

I roll my eyes at her pathetic excuse but gladly take her up on the offer.

"Sure." I say, actually thankful for Anna' presence for once.

She smiles at me then returns her focus back to Aidan.

"Well it was lovely seeing you again. Don't be a stranger this next month, okay." she says, through a demanding tone.

He smiles and nods his head; silently promising her.

He then opens his arms and she wastes no time in hugging him. He leans his head down and whispers lightly in her ear.

I assume his words are not meant for me but I hear him nevertheless.

"Look after her."

Hearing those words fall from his mouth breaks my heart all over again and I physically have to look away.

I'd promised the same thing to Jane four years ago and it pains me everyday that I didn't withhold that promise.

I didn't look after Aidan, I broke his heart.

Anna nods her head with a determined force and pulls away, looking to me.

I gesture for her to lead the way before following behind her.

As I pass Aidan I offer him a smile and a quick nod.

"Bye, Aidan." I say, staring into those hypnotising eyes of his.

He matches my gaze and maintains strong eye contact.

"See you later, darling." he says, his eyes holding a great promise.

My stomach flips at hearing him call me that again and with one last smile, I leave with one question running through my mind.

Will I see Aidan again?
