《Killer Bay》The Send-Off

At the entrance to the bridge connecting the Wastes to the rest of Pacific Bay, the team stood around the van that Adalet and Amy would be using to travel into no man's land. The van was one of the PBPD mobile office vehicles outfitted with computers and survival gear to help protect them in the harsh desert. The team was currently loading it up with water, food rations, and other necessities for the two cops to have while travelling.

"Have I mentioned that I am very against this plan?" Elijah asks, carrying over the last jugs of water and passing them to Heimdall.

"Only about 29 times this past hour," Aslan answered, watching his husband load the jugs into the cooler in the back of the van.

"Well make it thirty, I am so against this plan!" he groaned, playing with his necklace anxiously.

"They'll be alright, Eli," Heimdall assured the other father, jumping out of the van, "Adalet knows how to handle difficult environments and you and Amy used to go camping all the time!"

"Yes, in White Peaks!" Elijah argues, "in the forest! Not some radiation-filled wasteland! That's why it's called the Wastes!"

"Unfortunately we need to know what Frank and Karen plan on using the plutonium for," Andrea says, joining the men, "and as much as I hate to admit it, there's no better choice for this mission than Adalet and Amy."

"Send me, send Aslan or Heimdall, Hell send my ex-wife!" he suggested, tugging at his hair, "the radiation will stay away from her!"

"Dad, I'm going," Amy insisted, gently pulling her father's hands away from his hair, "Adalet and I are going to take down Frank and Karen, and we'll come back before you can even miss us!"

"I miss you already," Elijah immediately says, "Amy I'm your dad, it's my job to worry about you, I don't think I'll be able to sleep while you're gone!"

"Dad..."

"Don't worry, kid!" Aslan grinned, slinging his arm around Elijah's shoulders, "Dall and I won't let him be alone, and will drug him to sleep if we need to!"

Heimdall swatted his husband upside the back of his head, "Aslan no, what have I told you about drugging people?"

He pouts as he rubs the spot that had been hit, "not to..."

"Baba I'll never understand how someone as chaotic as you made it this long in life," Adalet sighed but she had a smile on her face.

"Luck and spite!" Aslan boasted proudly.

"Well Adalet and Amy are going to need all the luck they can get where they're going," Roxie said as she brought over the first aid kit she and Yann had finished packing, "the Wastes are the most dangerous district in Pacific Bay!"

"Which is why we've got everything we need to help protect us," Adalet replies.

Hannah had managed to find a set of protective suits in the police armoury which Adalet and Amy were now wearing over comfortable clothing. The Captain had tied her hair up in a milkmaid style braid while the rookie had secured her blonde hair into a tight, low bun. Each of them was holding their helmets and waiting for the all-clear to leave.

"I still think this is crazy," Fili sighed, taking the first aid kit from Roxie to put it inside the van, "but I know better than to try and argue with you, Let."

"The same goes for me," Russell agrees, "just be safe out there, alright?"

"We will," Amy promised.

"There is no safety in the Wastes!" Elijah ranted, "it has as much pollution as White Peaks has snow! Sandstorms that destroy buildings if there were any buildings left to destroy! And don't even get me started on the weather patterns!"

"Eli, they'll be fine, you know they will," Heimdall consoled the distraught man.

He chuckled weakly, "let me have my mental breakdown now or I won't sleep till they're home!"

Amy hugged her father and Elijah relaxed slightly in her comforting hold. The rest of the team smiled at the interaction, happy that Amy had her father back.

"Alright," Hannah broke the comfortable silence, "I've mapped out the entire area of the Wastes and marked the most dangerous and safest places for you two. I don't know how strong communications will be until you're in the district, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there. I've also uploaded a backup copy of the database to the van's mainframe, so you can still access it remotely."

"Thanks, Hannah," Adalet smiled, "did we find a usable place for a drop point?"

"You can send anything to the station's backup body cooler," Roxie answered, "thankfully it's rarely used and only I have the key for it so it'll be a safe place to send any lab samples. We'll be checking every hour unless you message us otherwise."

"And I've looped the video feed inside the room," Hannah added, "no one will see you teleporting anything into it!"

"I still can't believe you work with an alien," Elijah whispered to his daughter.

"You're friends with one," Amy teased back.

"...Point."

"And we'll leave anything for you guys there," Hannah continues, "that way we can stay in contact and you guys don't have to keep coming back to the bridge!"

"And let us know the moment you start feeling it!" Yann ordered, "the radiation is no joke!"

"We will, Yann," Adalet promised, "but don't expect us to come running back without Frank and Karen!"

He sighed, "I know you won't, that's the most worrying part!"

"Hey, I'm the one who's going to be sleeping on the couch because I can't sleep in our bed without her!" Fili announced, and flushed once his brain caught up with his mouth, "oops..."

"Ahmet," Adalet addressed her son while glaring at her husband, "make sure your Dad sleeps in the bed, his back will thank you for it!"

Ahmet saluted, "aye-aye, Mom!"

"Me and my big mouth..." Fili mumbled. Roxie patted the tall man on the back.

"So, we have everything?" Amy questions.

Elijah nodded, "the van's all packed and it has a full tank of gas!"

"There's plenty of water and food rations," Heimdall took over, "I even packed some energy bars from home."

"Sweet!" Adalet grins, remembering eating the Asgardian treat, "I love those! Did you bring the chocolate ones?"

He chuckled at his daughter's happiness, "yes, and the berry ones too."

"Please wash your mouth out or something before kissing me when you get back," Fili begged.

"Of course, can't have you going into anaphylactic shock!" Adalet replies.

"And you have your weapons?" Aslan asked.

"We have our guns and plenty of bullets," Amy answered.

Adalet patted the sheathed dagger attached to her belt, "I shrunk Hofund into a dagger, so we have an emergency escape plan if things go bad."

"I always forget those weapons can shrink," Aslan chuckled.

"Then I guess this is it," Andrea addressed the gathered people, "Adalet, Amy, remember, you two need to find Frank and Karen as soon as possible. We can't let them succeed in doing whatever they have planned for the plutonium! They have a head start so you will need to move fast!"

"We'll find them, Chief!" Adalet vowed, "they won't escape us, or justice!"

She nods, "I have complete trust in the two of you. Now, team, say your goodbyes. Adalet, Amy, I expect you both back safe and sound and in my office for a debriefing without sending a search party after you!"

"We won't let it come to that, Chief!" Amy salutes.

"I expect nothing less," Andrea smiles proudly, "stay together, and stay safe!"

Andrea walked back to the team's vehicles where they would watch the cops drive into the Wastes from.

"I expect you to keep me updated on your health," Yann said using what the team dubbed his "dad voice", "I don't care if it's just a sneeze, we need to know how the radiation is affecting you!"

"We'll keep you updated, Yann, promise," Adalet echoed her earlier statement.

"Thank you, call us whenever you can!" he added before going to join the Chief.

"Once we know how bad the cell reception is, I'll start working on a solution," Hannah promises, "the radio equipment in the van is top of the line but it's never been tested for the Wastes!"

"When you call, try to be away from any sandstorms," Roxie advised, "it will help clear up the connection!"

"Got it," Amy said, making a mental note of the instructions.

Roxie and Hannah left the entrance to the bridge leaving Adalet and Amy with their partners and family. Amy stepped off to the side to talk to Russell and Elijah while Adalet stayed with Fili, Ahmet, and her fathers.

"As much as I wish you wouldn't go into the Wastes, I know your drive for justice is strong... It's something I've always admired about you," Russell smiles, taking his girlfriend's hand, "when you get back, I'll take you out to celebrate! We can go to your favourite restaurant, go to the movies, get ice cream... Whatever you want to do!"

Amy blushed, "that sounds lovely, Russell, It's going to be my motivation to get home fast!"

The profiler drew the officer into a kiss. After several moments they broke apart and Rusell bid his girlfriend goodbye before joining the team.

"It feels like it was just yesterday that I watched you take your first steps," Elijah reminisced, "stumbling towards me to show me the drawing you'd just made."

"You still have the drawing, don't you" Amy guessed.

"It was a masterpiece!" he praised, "how could I throw away something you worked so hard on?"

She giggled, "I'll make you proud, Daddy."

"Oh, Amy," he smiles, cupping her face, "you already have..."

Elijah pressed a kiss to Amy's forehead before pulling her into a tight hug. While they were finishing their goodbyes, Adalet was giving her's to her own family.

"If you see a giant mutant lizard, you'll get a picture for me, right Mom?" Ahmet begged.

Adalet laughed, "yes, I'll take pictures of any giant mutant animals I find while I'm running away from them!"

"Yes!" he cheered, throwing his fist in the air.

"Alright," Fili placed his hand on Ahmet's head, "say goodbye to Adalet, Ahmet."

The boy wrapped his arms around his mother, "I promise to take care of Loki while you're gone."

Adalet squeezed her son tightly, "I'm sure they won't even get the chance to miss me with you around, be good for your Dad and remember-"

"Don't let him sleep on the couch!" Ahmet finished.

"My wife and son are ganging up on me!" Fili complained jokingly, "o woe is me!"

"Alright there, Shakespeare!" Adalet smirked, pulling him down for a kiss, "I'll be back soon, promise."

"We'll make sure the house doesn't burn down before then!" Fili grins cheekily.

"Gods don't say that!" she shakes her head, "we don't need an apocalypse on top of all this!"

He laughed, "yeah, I guess you're right... I love you starlight, come home safe, ok?"

"I will, Fi," she assured.

Fili stole another kiss before leading Ahmet away to join the rest of the team leaving Adalet behind with her fathers.

"You just love giving your fathers heart attacks from worry, don't you?" Aslan questioned rhetorically.

"I apologized for what I did during Ragnarok!" Adalet argued, "several times! And it turned out fine in the end!"

"Thankfully... And people wonder why I went prematurely gray..." he rolled his eyes.

"Because you're the most high-strung man I've ever met!" Heimdall teased.

"And yet you still said yes when I asked you to marry me!" Aslan countered.

"Well someone has to keep an eye on you!" he smirked.

"Yes, I have no privacy anymore, I'm lucky you can't read minds," he deadpanned, but his smile gave away the fact that he wasn't being serious.

The Asgardian hummed, "you don't know what I'm capable of..."

The Human paled, "Adalet I've changed my mind, take me with you!"

Adalet laughed at her father's miss fortune, "sorry, the van's a two-seater! I'll send you a postcard if I find a gift shop though!"

"Somehow I know you're not joking..." Aslan rolls his eyes again, "but all jokes aside, keep yourself safe, and Amy as well. We don't know the dangers you two will face out there."

"Aslan's right," Heimdall agreed.

"Can I get that in writing?" he asked.

"No," he refused immediately, "do what you have to to stay safe, I don't care how far you have to go just do what needs to be done, alright?"

Adalet nods, "I will, Far, after all, I learned to fight from the best!"

Heimdall smiles, "not sure I'd call myself the best but I am a decent fighter."

"We'll all be waiting for you two," Aslan chimed in, "try not to keep us waiting long, ok?"

Adalet hugged both of her fathers, "I don't plan on it."

Aslan and Heimdall returned the hug equally as tight and let go of their daughter after a few minutes of seeking comfort in each other's warmth. The three broke apart and Adalet watched her fathers leave, grabbing Elijah from his place beside Amy, and the fathers took their places beside the team.

"You ready, Amy?" Adalet asked as her partner came to stand beside her.

"As I'll ever be," Amy replies.

The two put their helmets on and secured them to the neck pieces of their suits. Once the connection had been made, the partners climbed into their seats in the van, Adalet behind the wheel and Amy in the passenger's seat. They each gave the team and their families a final wave before closing the doors, staring at the van, and beginning the drive across the bridge into the Wastes.

Back at the entrance to the bridge, the team watched the van drive off into the blowing sand until it couldn't be seen anymore. Knowing there was nothing more they could do from here, they dispersed to their vehicles to return to the station and await contact from the cops. Everyone left one by one until it was just Elijah, Aslan, and Heimdall remaining.

"They'll be alright, right?" Elijah asks, breaking the silence.

"Of course, they'll be," Heimdall responded confidently, "they have each other and the rest of the team supporting them from the station. We just have to remain positive, Eli."

"Heimdall's right," Aslan said, placing his hand on the blond's shoulder.

"Can I get that in writing?" he asked, smirking.

"It's probably already written down somewhere," he huffed, "anyway... As I was saying, avoid thinking the worst, Eli, it's going to do nothing but worry you and trust me, going fully gray before sixty isn't fun!"

"You went fully gray before you were forty, Aslan," Heimdall reminded his husband.

"Thank you, honey, I had forgotten," Aslan said with fake annoyance.

"Well, I think gray hair suits you," Elijah complemented.

"Thank you, Eli," he smiles, "at least someone appreciates my good looks!"

Heimdall rolled his eyes, "if you want him you can have him, just let me file the paperwork."

Elijah frowned, tilting his head, "what paperwork?"

"The devoice papers."

Aslan gasped dramatically, "no! Anything but those!"

"Seriously, you can have him if you want," Heimdall repeated.

"Er... Thanks for the offer, but you two make a great couple," Elijah smiled awkwardly, "I hate to break up what you two have."

"Well speaking of couples," Aslan began, "I have this friend from the GIA who's single that I think you'd- Gah!"

The rest of Aslan's sentence was cut off as Heimdall bent down, grabbed his husband around the waist and threw him up and over his shoulder. The Director dangled on his husband's shoulder squawking in dismay as the Ambassador showed no signs of letting him go. Elijah blinked at the two in utter confusion.

"Is this... Normal?" Elijah asked carefully.

"With Aslan, it is," Heimdall answered, not bothered by the extra weight on his shoulder, "I told him not to try and set you up with anyone, but he likes playing matchmaker."

"Because I'm good at it!" Aslan defended, accepting his fate of hanging upside down, "you can't stop love, Heimy!"

"No, but I can stop you," he countered.

"Ah... Thanks for the offer," Elijah says sincerely, "but I'm not sure I'm ready to date again, sorry."

Aslan waved off the apology, "don't be sorry, I understand! But if you ever change your mind- Ow!"

Heimdall had dropped his husband off his shoulder and Aslan landed on the ground on his back. The man just laid there for a few moments before pulling himself up onto his feet and dusting off his clothes like nothing had ever happened.

"Come on you two," Heimdall said, walking towards the remaining car, "we're not going to accomplish anything but collecting dust standing out here."

"I call shotgun!" Aslan yelled, running past Heimdall to get to the car first.

"Why did you marry him?" Elijah questioned, walking beside the Asgardian.

"Believe it or not, he was worse when we first met," Heimdall chuckled, "he's calmed down over the years."

"I feel like you have something to do with that," he remarked, referring to the other man's relaxed demeanour.

He shrugged, "he calls me 70% of his impulse control."

"He only has a 30% impulse control?"

"No, Adalet's the other 30%."

"... I can see it."

"Hurry up you two, I want to make Mantı for dinner!" Aslan called over from the car.

"What's that?" Elijah inquired.

"Think of ravioli but made of dough instead of pasta," he explains, climbing into his seat, "it's delicious!"

"Well then, we better get going," he says, getting behind the wheel as Heimdall climbs into the back seat.
