《Killer Bay》Agents of the GIA

As the team approached the address Gatekeeper had sent them to, their excitement and curiosity grew with each passing step. Once they had reached the door to where Gatekeeper was waiting, Andrea raised her hand and rang the doorbell. After a few moments of waiting, the door opened.

"You're here!" Fili smiles, "Adalet said you would be coming, please, come in!"

The Irish man let the team inside his home and closed the door behind them. He gestured for them to make themselves comfortable in the various chairs and couch that had been turned round to face the centre of the room. Ahmet was sitting on the ground near the fireplace scratching Hunter and Dean's ears, while Adalet was moving around the kitchen pouring drinks, by the smell of it there was coffee, tea, and some alcohol. Heimdall was helping her by bringing plates of snacks over to the dining room table, while Aslan was sitting at the kitchen island holding a steaming mug in his hands.

"Ah, you're all finally here!" Aslan greeted the team by raising his mug, "I was beginning to doubt that you would show."

"I told you they would come, Baba," Adalet rolls her eyes, "so did Far."

"Yes, yes," he took a sip of his drink, "always with the eyes, the two of you..."

"Sit down guys," the captain orders, "you might not want to be standing for this conversation."

Most of the team took a seat in one of the empty stops around the room. Some took the couch, others the matching chairs or one of the dining table chairs. Except for Hannah, she seemed unable to sit as she was practically vibrating on her feet.

"Are you really an Alien?! Is your mom one?! Your dad?! Both?! What planet are you from?! Are-!"

"Take a breather Han!" Roxie laughed, pulling the tech over to sit in the chair beside her, "one question at a time!"

Adalet laughed, "it's alright, Roxie, I figured she wouldn't last long..."

"So you really are an... Alien?" Amy asked, sounding more unsure about the last word than when she met Randolph.

"I think Earth is the only planet that still uses that word in that context," Adalet commented off-handedly, "but to answer your question, yes, I am an alien. G.I.A. Agent Gatekeeper, from the Mythos System."

"But you look so human!" she argues, waving her hands at her mentor for emphasis.

"Lots of species look "human"," she put air quotes around the last word, "Xandarians would argue that Humans resemble Xandarians, so could Osmosians. It's a matter of perspective really."

"This is crazy," Frank grunts, accepting a glass from Fili, "sweet, whiskey!"

Fili chuckled, "try having your wife explain to you that she's only half-human, then try explaining that to your son!"

"I took it better than you!" Ahmet teases his father.

"Children have an easier time understanding things sometimes," he rolls his eyes, "must be nice..."

"So if you're part human, then only one of your parents is an alien," Yann deduced.

"Correct," Adalet came around the kitchen island and hugged Aslan from behind, resting her chin on top of his head, "Baba here is from Earth, born and bred in Turkey. Far over there is an alien."

"I see," he nods, "that makes- wait, he's your other parent?!"

She laughed at the expression he made, "the universe is vast and ever-changing... A person having two biological parents of the same gender isn't unheard of."

"Ah," Russell nods, "so one of your fathers comes from Earth while the other comes from another planet, and your mother-"

"Ain't got one of those," Adalet cuts him off.

He blinks, "you don't have one of what?"

"A mother, at least biologically, got a couple honorary ones though," Adalet clarified, "the woman on my Earth birth certificate isn't biologically related to me, it was forged. That's why Hannah wasn't able to find much connecting Baba and her."

"I knew it!" Hannah cheered, "there were too many unknowns and inconsistencies!"

"Yes well, when you need to be integrated into humanity, you need to do a little bit of lying," Adalet winks, letting go of her father, "as for Russell's statement, Aslan and Heimdall are my only biological parents."

"How is that possible?" Yann inquired.

She picks a file up off the table and hands it to the forensics expert, "I think seeing is believing in this case, so we had a G.I.A. scientist test my DNA compared to Aslan and Heimdall."

He quickly skimmed the report, "what the... I know what I'm reading, but I can't believe I'm reading these results!"

Aslan laughed, "I assure you, Mr. Toussaint, those reports are 100% accurate, Adalet was created using DNA samples collected from myself, Heimdall. Illegally might I add..."

"They're in jail now, Aslan," Heimdall reminds his husband quietly, "just let it go..."

"So you really have no biological mother..." Amy frowns as she reads the documents Yann was holding over the man's arm, "but that can't be possible! Don't you need a mother to be born?"

"Well, I wasn't born in the traditional sense, far from it in fact," Adalet responds, "if we were to talk technically, I was genetically engineered and grown in an artificial womb for nine months on Galvan Prime, I think you'd like the place Hannah, it's a highly advanced technology-based planet."

Hannah's face looked like it might crack with how big she was smiling, "this is amazing! So you were genetically engineered?! How did they manage that?"

"Galvan's are like Adalet said a highly advanced species when it comes to technology, but they are most well known for their research in DNA and reproduction," Heimdall speaks up, sitting beside his husband at the kitchen island, "they've collected DNA samples from every species in the universe, no small feat might I add, and around 100 Earth years ago they developed a way for species that traditionally could not reproduce together to have children."

"Similar to artificial insemination or external fertilization depending on the species involved, or in cases like Adalet's genetically engineered and grown in an artificial womb," Aslan takes over, "it helped countless people start families, but there are a lot of regulations set by the Intergalactic Council."

"Intergalactic Council?" Andrea echoed.

"Think of them like the United Nations and the International Court,'' Adalet responds, "Ambassadors who represent every planet make up the Council, then some are appointed for higher positions like Judges or Prosecutors. They set out the laws of the universe and can veto individual planet laws if the need arises. It is the Council who dictates Galvan research; all DNA has to be given consensually, it can only be used to recreate the requested offspring, and no hybrids can be created using non-consensual DNA. And under no circumstances is human DNA to be used."

"Huh? Why not?" Frank grunts, lowering his whiskey glass.

"Humans are considered a protected species," Heimdall answers, "that's the reason why your planet did not know of the existence of other worlds outside of your Solar System. Several millennia ago, the Intergalactic Council decided that the Solar System would become a part of a study once it was discovered that intelligent life had evolved on Earth, they wanted to see how a planet would develop believing they were the only ones in the galaxy."

"So we became a research project?" Russell frowns, "I'm not sure if I'm impressed or offended."

"There is no offence intended," he assured, "that is the reason why the G.I.A. created its Earth branch, it is to begin integrating Earth back into the rest of the universe. Though it will take time for everything to come into effect."

"But what about the Aztecs?" Hannah argues, "or the pyramids? All the alien conspiracies I've read!"

"While Earth was isolated from the rest of the galaxy, that didn't stop some species from illegally visiting," Aslan replies with an eye roll, "try as you might, curiosity gets the best of all species. In fact, many of Earth's customs and beliefs come from other planets."

"Take Norse mythology," Heimdall spoke up, "that comes from my planet, New Asgard. Your people modified some of the stories, but the general concept stays the same."

"You know, I was wondering how you had that name," Yann admits, "I thought you might have chosen a human name to go by."

"I considered it, but many names on my planet are derived from old Norse, much like those in the nordic nations," he explained, grabbing a mug of tea, "of course it's hard to explain why you are named "Heimdall" when you cannot give the real reason."

"The real reason? What would that be?" Andrea inquired.

"I'm going to assume you are all familiar enough with Norse mythology to know that the God Heimdall was known for being able to see all," Heimdall points to his golden eyes, "these aren't contacts, they are my real eyes. I possess a rare ability called Omni-sense which gives me tremendous sensory capabilities far beyond that of any other species. I can see and hear across the galaxy, the only other person with this ability is Adalet, she inherited it from me."

"Yo!" Adalet waved.

"I knew something was different about you when you seemed to just know those suspenders were in a bird's nest back in the bayou!" Frank exclaimed, jabbing a finger at her accusingly, "that was too much to pass off as getting lucky."

She hums, "yes, I'm not supposed to use my abilities while on Earth, at least not to the point where they can't be reasonably explained, but I do use them for things such as finding clues or examining evidence. In moderation that is."

"So could you theoretically see a killer with your eyes?" Andrea inquired, thinking of the possibilities.

"Unfortunately, Omni-sense doesn't work like that," Heimdall explains, taking a sip of his tea, "while Adalet and I can see anywhere in the galaxy, it actually takes us a while to find someone even if we know what they look like. But the more accurate the location, the quicker we can find someone. It also helps if we have been there before since we have a point of reference to work with."

"Like if I want to check on Fili and Ahmet and I know they're at home," Adalet chimes in, "I'll find them instantly, but if I were to look for one of my old teammates, it'll take longer since I only know they're in Grimsborough but not exactly where they are within the city."

"Hold on, back up, abilities as in plural?!" Hannah squeals, "that means there's more you can do!?"

"Of course," Adalet smiled, "Asgardians have dormant DNA of the races from the other realms, Jotuns, Vanir, Fire Demons, etc. When I was created, the Galvan performing the research managed to unlock this dormant DNA in me, giving me some lost abilities from these races."

"Oh pleeeeease tell me what they are!" she begs, bouncing in her seat.

"Well, you already know about my Omni-sense. Like all Asgardians, I possess what would be considered superhuman strength, durability, speed, stamina and a regenerative healing factor, meaning I heal at a much faster rate and I can sustain flight. I can also use my Omni-sense to communicate with someone anywhere in the universe, though it works best with Far. We also have something called All-Speak, when talking to an Asgardian you'll hear the language you need to hear and we'll understand you."

"Then from my Jotun DNA, I can create and manipulate ice. I also can survive at subzero temperatures and lower the temperature of the area surrounding me. But the downside is that while I'm using it, my skin starts to turn blue and will stay like that until I warm up. I don't think I need to explain the Fire Demon half cause you know, fire! It's the reason why I'm not supposed to drink Earth alcohol because it's highly flammable, almost burned down a house the first time I drank it..." Adalet finished with a sheepish smile.

Dead silence greeted her after she gave the long-winded explanation. The team stared at her in shock, their mouths hanging open as they processed what they just heard.

"Holy shit!" Hannah cried, "that's so cool! Can you show us something?!"

Adalet reached over and touched Aslan's mug as he was raising it for another sip. The man paused in the act and lowered the mug, giving his daughter a sideways glance. As Adalet pulled her hand away, they saw that the tips of her fingers had turned an icy blue.

"Adalet, stop freezing my drinks," he scolded, turning his mug upside down so that the team could witness that the coffee was now frozen and stuck inside.

The alien snickered, "sorry, Baba. Here, just let me..."

Adalet took the mug from her father's hand and held it between her own. A faint glow appeared from between her hands and the mug and soon steam was billowing out showing that it was reheated.

"Thank you," Aslan said, taking his mug back, "she loves freezing people's drinks when they're not looking, she's been doing it since she was a child."

Frank pulls his glass closer, "stay away from my whiskey, Adalet!"

She holds her hands up, "I promise not to touch it. Now, there is one thing I would like to get out of the way myself if you don't mind."

"What is it?" Amy inquired.

"Well, you know how you said I look very human? Truth is I have some non-human features," Adalet reaches up towards her face.

She goes to each of her eyes and pulls out a pair of brown-coloured contacts. Blinking to clear her vision they saw that she now had the same eyes as Heimdall, a mixture of gold, bronze, and copper.

"You don't look that different," Roxie remarks, "the eyes sure but you could just pass that off as contacts!"

"Ah, but that's the one I can hide easily," Adalet says, rolling up the sleeves of her coat, "these on the other hand..."

With the sleeves rolled up, they could now see she had tattoos on her inner forearms. On the right was a shield-like crest with a nordic style triangular knot with short, feathered wings that framed the sides of the shield. The tattoo was a golden colour that almost seemed to reflect the light that hit it depending on where Adalet's arm was. The tattoo on the left was a pair of realistic-looking tulips, one with vibrant red petals while the other had petals that matched Adalet and Heimdall's eyes. The green stems of the flowers twirled together and large leaves overlapped at the base of the flowers. It was amazing how clear, bright, and vibrant the colours were considering the dark skin it was tattooed on.

"I got these tattoos a few years ago, the one on my right arm is a traditional Asgardian tattoo made using melted celestial gold mixed into special ink," Adalet explains, tracing the tattoo with her finger, "I got it to commemorate Ragnarok. The one on my left arm commemorates my family, the red tulip is for Baba and the gold one is for Far."

"Wait, Ragnarok?! That actually happened" Russell exclaimed, his eyes going wide.

Heimdall nods, "but not in the way you're probably thinking. The Ragnarok Adalet refers to is a great battle that occurred on our planet and it was during this battle that she wielded Hofund-"

"Hofund is real?!" the profiler cried, cutting off the rest of the older man's sentence.

"What's a Hofund?" Frank questioned, sipping his whiskey.

"Hofund is the sword of the god Heimdall," Heimdall explains as Adalet headed upstairs for some reason, "when the God's created New Asgard by merging the remains of the nine realms into one planet after The First Ragnarok, they left us with their sacred items. Legend says that only those who are worthy can possess an item of the gods and those who can will gain their power. If you wield Hofund, you can open the Bifrost Bridge, create pocket dimensions and open short-distance transportation portals-"

"Which is how Agent J was rescued from that van," Aslan pipped up.

"-for millennia few Asgardians have been able to wield an item of the gods... Until the great battle dubbed The Second Ragnarok broke out on New Asgard. It nearly wiped out the planet because something was keeping the allied forces from passing the planet's atmosphere. While the battle raged on, Asgard's princes and Adalet decided to try and wield the weapons of the gods. And they succeeded."

"Prince Magnus wielded Mjolnir, the hammer of Thor, while his younger brother Tómas wielded Lævateinn, the sceptre of Loki," Aslan continued, "Adalet is capable of wielding Hofund, and using it allowed her to open the Bifrost, letting in our allies to finish the fight."

"Wow..." Hannah breathed, "that would be so cool to see..."

"Well lucky for you, I keep Hofund close in case of an emergency," Adalet says as she returns, carrying a long black case, similar to a rifle carrying case but longer and more rectangular.

She sets the case down on the counter and opens it with a soft click of the latches. Reaching into the case she pulls out a large sword. It was about five feet tall with a polished silver blade, a golden cross-guard and pommel, and brown leather was wrapped around the grip. Surprisingly, or maybe not, the tattoo on her right forearm matched the sword's pommel, while the rest of the sword had similar nordic style knots on the crossguard and grip.

Hannah ran forward to examine the blade, "whoa! What is it made of?!"

"Uru," Adalet answered. Holding the sword horizontally in her hands, "one of the strongest materials in the universe, it's said that it takes the heat of a star to forge it."

"So cool..." she whispered, running her hand carefully over the blade.

After letting Hannah touch it for a little longer, Adalet returned Hofund to its case and locked it. She rolled the sleeves of her jacket back down and took a seat on the arm of Fili's chair.

"I have a question," Yann says, "would you mind if I examined a sample of your DNA sometime?"

"Go ahead, just keep your results out of the database," Adalet replies, running her fingers through her husband's hair, "anything else someone wants to ask?"

"Oh! I almost forgot!" Hannah said, on the edge of her seat, "who's Loki?"

Heimdall dropped his head into his hand with a groan, "Adalet's mischief pet Galvanic Mechamorph."

"Oh, you love them, Heimy!" Aslan laughed at his husband's reaction.

"Easy for you to say, they've never hidden all of your left shoes around the castle right before a Royal Council meeting," he deadpanned.

"To answer your question, Hannah," Adalet brought the conversation back, "this is Loki."

Adalet let out a sharp whistle and the team waited to see what would happen. They watched in amazement as the simple black choker Adalet was wearing began moving. The band removed itself from her neck like a living slime and landed on the floor where it morphed into a slug-like shape. The creature was about the size of a puppy with two nubs for front legs and a slug-like tail and head. The creature had a black base colour and green markings running along its body.

"This is Loki," Adalet bends down to pick them up, "they took control of Officer Starr's car during our rescue mission, their tech half allows them to take control of equipment and some technology, like a living cheat code."

"Yip! Yip!" Loki chirped, their voice sounded similar to a digital audio recording, almost robotic.

"Amazing," Andrea remarks, "so many species in the universe, and we've never known..."
